The Vi At The Glen is gorgeous, comfortable, provides high-quality dining options, a beauty salon and other amenities, and features an in-house Care Center with a truly outstanding staff to assist with its residents' ongoing medical care, and its cost of entry reflects that...and I would normally give it a 5-star review for all of those things. Unfortunately, at least an our case, the administration failed to honor their multiple promises to *ALWAYS* keep our Mom's family members up-to-date on her progress. Despite multiple requests for details, they refused to give us any, and we found out that they had made the decision to both put our Mom into the Care Center *AND TO REFUSE TO ALLOW HER TO MOVE BACK IN TO HER APARTMENT* only *AFTER* they had done so. I can think of few things more unethical, immoral, indecent, and counter to every single positive aspect of the Vi than for the administration to unilaterally move a resident into the Care Center and prevent her from moving back into her apartment without informing her children at all, let alone after promising and assuring us multiple times that we would be notified right away if her status there was *EVER* at risk of changing. I initially planned to NOT recommend that anyone put their loved ones in a position where the administration of the facility could unilaterally move their loved ones into the Care Center and prevent them from moving back into their apartment without notice, but I realize that not everyone in a corrupt administration stays in their position forever; thus my context-specific recommendation of Maybe. My advice? If considering having your loved ones move into the Vi At The Glen, you should first insist that the administration sign a document stating their obligation to *ALWAYS* and *IMMEDIATELY* keep your loved one's family members apprised of any change in status and the reasons therefore so no one else has to suffer the way the administration made us suffer upon discovering their cowardly subterfuge regarding our Mom (and if they won't do so, then our firsthand experience suggests that you should *RUN* in the opposite direction). No one should have to ever be put through the emotional wringer we were put through by the unfathomable callousness of the current Vi administration, and to be clear, my 1-star review reflects only that aspect of our experience with the Vi At The Glen. read more

I am surprosed the critical review from Grayslake. Her concerns centered around COVID times which were extremely difficult for all, including those needing assisted living. Although Vi's Assisted living was to isolate residents, in the long run, it kept most safe under extremely trying circumstances. I may not have been pleased but in retrospect, I do not know what VI could have done better without risking greater safety concerns for residents. I am thankful that my Mother was there and reasonably taken care of, with moderate dimentia,during that time. She is now 96 and still kicking! read more

After 20 years in the VI's independent living, our 97 year old mom recently experienced a precipitous decline in her health. After a hospital stay the week after Thanksgiving, the Vi had her spend time in skilled nursing to ensure she can safely resume independent living. We determined that a move to assisted living would be best and fortunately, an opening in assisted living was coming available. She is now successfully moved into assisted living thanks to the attentive care and attention to detail provided by the entire staff during that transition. Prior to the move, our mom was apprehensive about losing her independence in skilled nursing and assisted living. However since experiencing the care provided in both skilled nursing and now in assisted living, she is very pleased with the move. The staff not only ensured a smooth physical move, but they have spent extra attention to ensure she integrates with the residents in dining, exercise classes, art activities and more. Whenever I off-handedly ask a staff member about any question, I later receive a phone call from a nurse, therapist, or social worker making sure that I received a sufficient answer. I've been beyond impressed by the professionalism and level of care in assisted and skilled nursing. The Vi has truly impressed me and lived up to a standard that I didn't think existed anymore in the "nursing care" segment. I would highly recommend the Vi for anyone evaluating independent living options. The value that the Vi provides throughout a person's lifecycle is impressive. The care and level of support in not just daily living but during times of transition (when the help is really needed) is delivered in a personable and caring way. The Vi may not be the low price alternative, but if you are looking for quality in care, the staff, the culture, facilities and services, I cannot imagine another facility topping the Vi at the Glen. I appreciate it more now than I did before as they have delivered on what I had always hoped would still exist in today's profit-focused world. read more

My parents moved into the Vi in 2004. My father passed away in 2014, and my mother has had a wonderful experience in Independent Living (IL) for two decades! She turns 97 in Feb, and due to recent health issues, has moved into Assisted Living (AL) after spending weeks in Skilled Nursing. The transition to AL was seamless, thanks to the compassionate effort and guidance of Sarah Watson, Director of Resident Services. Other staff at the Vi were very accommodating in preparing her new apartment in AL (including painting, carpeting, etc.) and the nurses and staff have been very supportive of our mother's needs. We are very grateful for the outstanding care and support that both parents have received at the Vi. I would highly recommend this community! read more

I am giving the Vi 5 stars for the Independent Living area. I have other ratings for other areas my parents lived in below. 2 stars overall. My folks moved in there 10 years ago. It was a lovely, spacious apartment. There are many things to do. My dad enjoyed the huge garden space each spring and summer and supplied the Vi residents with much produce. The CNA's were friendly and helpful. However, BEWARE if you begin to decline and need more help. Within 6 yrs, my dad's memory began to decline and my mom needed more assistance than the Independent side could provide. They moved across the street to the Assisted Living and there began our troubles. While most of the CNA's were caring and helpful, the head staff and especially the social worker were rude to us regularly. They are unable to accommodate dietary issues. We asked for dairy free and gluten free for our father's severe digestive issues and they said they couldn't do it. I'm not sure how people with diabetes or food allergies could live there. We hired daytime caregivers to help with our folks daily to watch the diet and help where the Vi could not. It was pure hell once Covid restrictions began. What started as a few weeks, became years. My mother cried daily wanting to die. My parents were not allowed out of their room...ever....for months. They couldn't even walk across the hall 6 ft to the activity room for a change. Once they were allowed to go outside in the summer, they still had to wear masks outside and sit 6 ft apart from each other. They couldn't even talk to each other because of masks and distance. Once family was allowed to see them again it still was with masks,etc. My mom gave up on life being so lonely and with my father in the throws of dementia. We were scolded by the staff for not wanting them vaccinated since our mother has had severe reactions to vaccines in the past. The social worker even introduced us to the doctor as the children who don't care about their parents. And we were standing right there. Once we were allowed back in their room it was apparent no deep cleaning had been done for months. No visitors, no cleaning. It was really dirty. Even a mouse trap was set up in the corner. My mom finally passed in May 2021. Dad moved to the Memory wing. The Memory wing is nicely furnished with a garden out back. We continued our private caregivers during the day so they could keep him occupied. Vi CNA's tend to just wheel patients out to the living area and leave them. CNA's were kind and helpful, just understaffed. It's the management and social worker who made our lives difficult. There are a few activities daily but not enough. Diet modifications are still a problem there. The people in charge are uncaring for memory patients. When our caregiver complained that my dad had not been attended to all night and was soaking wet, she asked social worker what would have happened if he had gotten out of bed and slipped? The answer, "That would be his fault, not ours." My 96 yr old dad had to sit away from others, wear a mask in the halls, and treated like a leper. Everyone there was double vaxxed and they were afraid of a 96 yr old that never left the building? If I could rate the Assisted Living building it would be 2 STARS. Memory Care ONE STAR. The Vi may look beautiful but can become a nightmare if you stay too long. The contract became too binding to break and move my parents in the end without losing a lot of money. The management was unkind to our family as we expected quality care and we weren't getting it. I'm sure they are relieved we are finally gone. Dad passed away 1-18-22. My advice to anyone looking at the VI....run! Too high end expensive for such ungrateful management. read more

My mother moved into the Vi in 2020. For her, the Vi was the only option once she decided to leave her home. She liked working with Sian and Ellen. They are professional and great to work with. She says being at the Vi makes her feel like she is always on vacation. Loves the staff, the services, the amenities. She feels safe, especially with Covid. She felt welcomed from Day 1. She appreciated that her apartment was nicely redone. My siblings and I appreciate the Vi's cooperation during the move. Everything went smoothly. An opportunity for improvement is Meg at My Solutions. Our experience was below expectations. Meg was involved in the space planning only and did a poor job. I gave her a layout to work with and asked that she verify it. She came back with a different design in the den, which included placing a book case in front of the window. She said a hutch in the dining area would not fit, which it does. In the 2nd bedroom, she put a rocking chair in the middle of the room. My father recently turned 100 and has been residing in the skilled nursing side of the care center for about 18 months. He has recently recovered from covid and having a stroke. My mother had also been a resident in skilled nursing for about a year before her passing last March. They lived together for five years in independent living before they each transitioned to the care center. They were in the care center together for six months before my mothers passing. I have been at the Vi campus 2-3 times a week these past number of years. I have met many if not most all of the staff over the years. I have had an opportunity to see my parents there in good times and bad. I am away from my father now for a period of time and was just thinking how grateful I am to have the care center looking after him. The level and quality of service is high which is most reassuring not only to me but my father as well. From the aides to the nurses and certainly the administrative staff all have been consistently exceptional to my parents and our family. Your attentiveness to our family needs and especially my Dad now is so very much appreciated. We moved to Vi at the Glen in June.Right in the middle of Covid. We moved to Vi because my father lives in Vi-Bentley Village at 104. He loves it and has been there 21 years. We are happy with the amenities that Vi at the Glen offers. There is never a lack of activities and the food is great. We will be using the pool and workout area soon as the weather changes. I have used the nurse. We're sure that as soon as Covid is under control, we will meet more people. The people that live here couldn't be more friendly. read more
