My sister Sandra moved into Chestnut Square at The Glen in August of 2023. We had done quite a bit…read moreof research and looked at three or four other communities in the region that were nice, but we ultimately chose Chestnut for a variety of reasons. First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

Location is the best with shopping and medical care within a mile or two. The decor and residential suburban settings is superb. As is the residence itself. If you need it come join our club. The management is like a segment off of mean girls. They only care about gossip and dictating things that are unnecessary like bringing out the water before the silverware, not the resident sitting in their own filthy mess this place claims to have free will for their residence, but that's far from the truth. They can't choose to lay down if they want to if they're hurting a nurse will literally come and look at them and say they're fine. They can't even hang art on their walls or hallway walls because, the executive director doesn't like how it looks if that's their home and they pay BIG MONEY THEN WHATS THE issue It's really more about what she wants .the only time the place is clean properly is when its about to be a tour for a potential residence to move in or when the big bosses are coming . but on any given day if there's not a tour or if no one important is coming, the place smells like pee and poop and everything in between maintenance People are more concerned about what others are doing then fixing things around the community They are part of gossip and drama as well everyone here is walking on eggshells the executive Director may be good for business BUT She's not good for creating a happy enjoyable environment, where people can actually enjoy their job and work properly I mean when you're hearing what you do wrong every second who can .She creates a dictatorship of things that she likes and she wants without considering the enjoyment of the residence.I'm really surprised she's in that position because nothing about her is welcoming towards her employees or the residence I've seen girls cry due to poor treatment I've heard all kinds of things working here about nurses allegedly overmedicating residence and them tripping falling i've seen things with my own eyes that she should be more concerned about, but claims to be worried about safety, but there's people walking around blind with no assistance and no glasses. There's people walking around with no shoes on there's people leaning falling out their chairs there's people sitting in their feces. There's people with snot dripping out of their nose for hours and no assistance if you call the maintenance person for a spill, it takes an hour then they come with an attitude and she's aware of it. she's only worried about the drama

The Vi At The Glen is gorgeous, comfortable, provides high-quality dining options, a beauty salon…read moreand other amenities, and features an in-house Care Center with a truly outstanding staff to assist with its residents' ongoing medical care, and its cost of entry reflects that...and I would normally give it a 5-star review for all of those things. Unfortunately, at least an our case, the administration failed to honor their multiple promises to *ALWAYS* keep our Mom's family members up-to-date on her progress. Despite multiple requests for details, they refused to give us any, and we found out that they had made the decision to both put our Mom into the Care Center *AND TO REFUSE TO ALLOW HER TO MOVE BACK IN TO HER APARTMENT* only *AFTER* they had done so. I can think of few things more unethical, immoral, indecent, and counter to every single positive aspect of the Vi than for the administration to unilaterally move a resident into the Care Center and prevent her from moving back into her apartment without informing her children at all, let alone after promising and assuring us multiple times that we would be notified right away if her status there was *EVER* at risk of changing. I initially planned to NOT recommend that anyone put their loved ones in a position where the administration of the facility could unilaterally move their loved ones into the Care Center and prevent them from moving back into their apartment without notice, but I realize that not everyone in a corrupt administration stays in their position forever; thus my context-specific recommendation of Maybe. My advice? If considering having your loved ones move into the Vi At The Glen, you should first insist that the administration sign a document stating their obligation to *ALWAYS* and *IMMEDIATELY* keep your loved one's family members apprised of any change in status and the reasons therefore so no one else has to suffer the way the administration made us suffer upon discovering their cowardly subterfuge regarding our Mom (and if they won't do so, then our firsthand experience suggests that you should *RUN* in the opposite direction). No one should have to ever be put through the emotional wringer we were put through by the unfathomable callousness of the current Vi administration, and to be clear, my 1-star review reflects only that aspect of our experience with the Vi At The Glen.

Although Vi's Assisted living was to isolate residents, in the long run, it kept most safe under extremely trying circumstances. I may not have been pleased but in retrospect, I do not know what VI could have done better without risking greater safety concerns for residents. I am thankful that my Mother was there and reasonably taken care of, with moderate dimentia, during that time. She is now 96 and still kicking!

From Day One, they have gone above and beyond in helping my mother with all her ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). Their care has made such a difference--not just in her physical wellbeing, but in her dignity, comfort, and peace of mind. Here are just a few of the things that make them exceptional: Comprehensive Assistance They help my mom with everything she needs--bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, meal preparation, feeding, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and more. Whenever there's a task needed, they're there. Reliability & Consistency The caregivers show up on time, and they provide consistent care. It's such a relief knowing that when we expect help, we really do get help--no surprises, no last-minute cancellations. Skilled and Compassionate Staff The caregivers are not just capable; they are kind. They treat my mom with respect, patience, and gentleness. They listen, they adjust, and they genuinely care. It shows in the way they interact--never rushing, always attentive to her feelings and comfort. Personalized Care They take the time to understand my mom's routines, preferences, and what makes her comfortable. Whether it's helping her dress in her favorite clothes or making meals she enjoys, they tailor the care. It's not generic--it's personal. Clear Communication The staff and management keep me in the loop. If there's something new or if my mother's needs change (which happens), they check in with me. They listen to what I have to say and they adapt the plan as needed. Dignity & Respect Perhaps most importantly, they preserve my mom's dignity. Even with tasks that are intimate or sensitive, they handle everything with discretion, respect, and kindness. They help her feel like herself. Peace of Mind for the Family Knowing she is well-cared for lifts a tremendous weight off our shoulders. Anytime Home Care gives me confidence that her needs are being met and that she is safe, comfortable, and treated with love. Bottom Line: If you are looking for a home care service that truly lives up to its promises--in doing all the ADLs, with kindness, skill, and genuine compassion--Anytime Home Care in McHenry should be your go-to. We are so grateful for them. Thank you for everything you do

Each and every staff member/caregiver at Arden Courts demonstrates true compassion, understanding, acceptance, and excellence of care. The director frequently interacts with the residents. She knows all the residents and their personal needs. She is easily available to family members and goes out-of-her-way to accommodate. The nurses are a blessing. They listen to the residents and families to provide the best overall care. They take a special interest in each resident, note changes in behavior, and frequently talk to the doctors. The doctors consult with the residents and prescribe medications sparingly to help the patient live the best life possible. (The last place my brother was at -- for one month -- wanted to give him psychiatric drugs without any thought of the negative effect. Caused harm, not good -- nurses and doctors didn't care. Brother had a urinary infection, they didn't even test him or try to help -- just gave strong psychotic drugs.) The receptionist always greets a person with a smile and eagerly assists in any way possible. The activity director at Arden Courts provides thought provoking games, exercises, and socialization for all levels of memory care residents. Music, art, movie nights, Men's Club, Women's Club -- all of the various activities are provided to give the residents a sense of normalcy and purpose. The caregivers excel at giving personalized assistance with loving patience. Couldn't ask for any better attention. Maintenance and housekeeping staff are wonderful in keeping the residents comfortable in a tidy, clean environment. Kudos also to the kitchen staff. A variety of foods are provided, and accommodations are made when needed. They take pride in what they do. Don't forget the importance of the environmental setting. Arden Courts of Northbrook does not have residents on the second or third floor with stair and elevator access. No -- residents are all on the first floor, in separate rooms with their own 1/2 bath and with access to two large enclosed, secure courtyards connected by a 1/4 mile walking path. (In the other facility, my brother was on the third floor and doubted that he would ever again touch a leaf or walk across green grass.) In warm weather, Arden Courts allows the residents to go in and out the doors to the courtyards and walking path as they want. There are four "house" wings to Arden Courts that allow more individual care, being that each "house" has only 14 residents with their own caregivers. Each house has a living room with television and comfy chairs and an extra large, bright kitchen/dining area that overlooks a courtyard. Each kitchen has its own refrigerator that has extra treats for snacking. Family members can even bring an occasional treat to put in the refrigerator or freezer for their loved one. The four "houses" connect to a main activity center that houses a studio for art, bingo, and other activities; a community room with a piano for larger gatherings of trivia, exercises, music, movie nights, etc.; a nurse's office; and a room used by a barber, beautician, podiatrist, and dentist. My review is long; it needs to be to point out the many things a person needs to consider before placing a loved family member in a memory care facility. Arden Courts is a blessing! I saw more than enough places, but it wasn't until I saw Arden Courts of Northbrook and met the amazingly wonderful staff that I knew that was the only place for my brother.
