Chestnut Square at The Glen

My sister Sandra moved into Chestnut Square at The Glen in August of 2023. We had done quite a bit…read moreof research and looked at three or four other communities in the region that were nice, but we ultimately chose Chestnut for a variety of reasons. First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

I am so glad i chose to move her when i did. I have progressed to needing a walker and 12hrs a day private caregivers. Both are accommodated enthusiastically here. I know that this residential community has extended my life actively. The activity calendar offers something for mind, body, and spirit every day. Location is the best with shopping and medical care within a mile or two. The decor and residential suburban settings is superb. As is the residence itself. If you need it come join our club. Vi at The Glen

The Vi At The Glen is gorgeous, comfortable, provides high-quality dining options, a beauty salon…read moreand other amenities, and features an in-house Care Center with a truly outstanding staff to assist with its residents' ongoing medical care, and its cost of entry reflects that...and I would normally give it a 5-star review for all of those things. Unfortunately, at least an our case, the administration failed to honor their multiple promises to *ALWAYS* keep our Mom's family members up-to-date on her progress. Despite multiple requests for details, they refused to give us any, and we found out that they had made the decision to both put our Mom into the Care Center *AND TO REFUSE TO ALLOW HER TO MOVE BACK IN TO HER APARTMENT* only *AFTER* they had done so. I can think of few things more unethical, immoral, indecent, and counter to every single positive aspect of the Vi than for the administration to unilaterally move a resident into the Care Center and prevent her from moving back into her apartment without informing her children at all, let alone after promising and assuring us multiple times that we would be notified right away if her status there was *EVER* at risk of changing. I initially planned to NOT recommend that anyone put their loved ones in a position where the administration of the facility could unilaterally move their loved ones into the Care Center and prevent them from moving back into their apartment without notice, but I realize that not everyone in a corrupt administration stays in their position forever; thus my context-specific recommendation of Maybe. My advice? If considering having your loved ones move into the Vi At The Glen, you should first insist that the administration sign a document stating their obligation to *ALWAYS* and *IMMEDIATELY* keep your loved one's family members apprised of any change in status and the reasons therefore so no one else has to suffer the way the administration made us suffer upon discovering their cowardly subterfuge regarding our Mom (and if they won't do so, then our firsthand experience suggests that you should *RUN* in the opposite direction). No one should have to ever be put through the emotional wringer we were put through by the unfathomable callousness of the current Vi administration, and to be clear, my 1-star review reflects only that aspect of our experience with the Vi At The Glen.

Although Vi's Assisted living was to isolate residents, in the long run, it kept most safe under extremely trying circumstances. I may not have been pleased but in retrospect, I do not know what VI could have done better without risking greater safety concerns for residents. I am thankful that my Mother was there and reasonably taken care of, with moderate dimentia, during that time. She is now 96 and still kicking!

Brookdale Des Plaines, IL 3-16-25…read moreAfter almost 2 years of residency my opinion Brookdale Des Plaines remains the same...... VERY high marks for both residents and management with staff. In spite of a madcap rush of 40+ new residents caused by the abrupt closing of another "senior" facility up the road, management rose to the occasion over a 4-5 month period to get everyone housed and safely moved in. Toss in another round of Covid, the Flu and artic winter temps, the Holiday decorations were once again Rockefeller Center like. Residents long-term and new have blended together on a mostly joyful. and very friendly fashion. Management continues their top down approach to keep things running smoothly Access to top rated reliable medical care is always a growing need as we all get older. And when buying a house any good realtor will say.... LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION!!! This facility has it in spades as well as a an IN-HOUSE reliable bus service to get you to and fro. BDP SHOULD BE at the VERY TOP of anyone's list as a safe, extremely well managed plus welcoming home for you or your loved one. I invite you to read my previous more extensive reviews, or better yet call BDP and schedule a visit. A long term and well informed marketing team await your call. Again, I am in NO way associated with Brookdale and simply reside here as an 85 yr old slightly disabled male resident. 2 years now and still very happy!!! HOPE to see YOU soon!!!
