Kerry asked a lot of questions to help narrow down our options. She recommended several places to help us determine what size/feel would work best for our situation. Kerry set up the appointments for our tours and checked with us to get feedback. Our timeline for moving needed to happen sooner than we thought, and Kerry helped keep us on track. My father-in-law is happy with his new home and we appreciate Kerry's help.

Several months ago I'd grown increasingly worried about my mom's safety at home. The day we were to…read morediscuss assisted living with her doctor, I found myself calling 911 and sending her to the hospital for what would be 51 days, sepsis, 2 surgeries & 2 rehab stints. Having her return home was no longer an option; which led me to quickly get to up to speed on senior living options, mostly on my own. I found her a place & moved her in all before her release. While I ensured her safety, I second guessed my decisions as she vocally struggled to adjust; it was a lot of change particularly for someone who rarely left her home. Almost 6 months in, a different set of doubts & worries took over. Did I make the right call, could she live somewhere more affordable, would she outlive her money, etc. I don't even recall what search term led me to Senior Living Experts, but I'm grateful. Rebecca listened to my story and made me feel less alone. She thought where my mom was at was the best option in terms of cost, desired location and care needs addressed, but would do the research and circle back. We also discussed the care she received currently and provided a few suggestions. As promised, Rebecca followed up and confirmed her initial assessment. Yes, I'll still worry about her finances, but I now have a better understanding of the landscape and what comes should her care needs increase. If I had a do over, I would have started with Senior Living Experts, they are amazing!

Room is larger than most hospital rooms and has a nice setup with a mini-fridge like a pretty large dorm for 2 people. Dad was chillin like a villain. Food is better than the local hospitals or the crappy Citadel and their level of care was good to my Dad... he like most of Boomers... was annoy af most of the time and they handled it well Note: their idea of PT is not as solid as an outpatient therapy location... dont expect that level of service.

Almost all those who cared for her when I was present did so in a very professional manner upon my observation. Overall I feel it is an excellent facility though I do have a few questions. I noticed that there are not any cameras there. One morning when I arrived earlier than usual and there was a situation I found alarming in my mother's room so I approached the only staff I saw present at the time to alert her. The staff member did not seem happy that I pointed what I saw out and was belligerent. I wanted to report this yet when I tried I was told that the staff member said I invaded her personal space which I didn't and that there were witnesses. Actually though I never invaded her space and since her and I were the only ones in the room I don't see how there could have been witnesses. Saying this though highlights the fact that if there were cameras it would allow those in charge to see what really happened. Safety inside and outside of facilities like this is important for many reasons.

I looked at over 25 facilities with memory care. Arden Courts of Northbrook was definitely the…read morebest. Each and every staff member/caregiver at Arden Courts demonstrates true compassion, understanding, acceptance, and excellence of care. The director frequently interacts with the residents. She knows all the residents and their personal needs. She is easily available to family members and goes out-of-her-way to accommodate. The nurses are a blessing. They listen to the residents and families to provide the best overall care. They take a special interest in each resident, note changes in behavior, and frequently talk to the doctors. The doctors consult with the residents and prescribe medications sparingly to help the patient live the best life possible. (The last place my brother was at -- for one month -- wanted to give him psychiatric drugs without any thought of the negative effect. Caused harm, not good -- nurses and doctors didn't care. Brother had a urinary infection, they didn't even test him or try to help -- just gave strong psychotic drugs.) The receptionist always greets a person with a smile and eagerly assists in any way possible. The activity director at Arden Courts provides thought provoking games, exercises, and socialization for all levels of memory care residents. Music, art, movie nights, Men's Club, Women's Club -- all of the various activities are provided to give the residents a sense of normalcy and purpose. The caregivers excel at giving personalized assistance with loving patience. Couldn't ask for any better attention. Maintenance and housekeeping staff are wonderful in keeping the residents comfortable in a tidy, clean environment. Kudos also to the kitchen staff. A variety of foods are provided, and accommodations are made when needed. They take pride in what they do. Don't forget the importance of the environmental setting. Arden Courts of Northbrook does not have residents on the second or third floor with stair and elevator access. No -- residents are all on the first floor, in separate rooms with their own 1/2 bath and with access to two large enclosed, secure courtyards connected by a 1/4 mile walking path. (In the other facility, my brother was on the third floor and doubted that he would ever again touch a leaf or walk across green grass.) In warm weather, Arden Courts allows the residents to go in and out the doors to the courtyards and walking path as they want. There are four "house" wings to Arden Courts that allow more individual care, being that each "house" has only 14 residents with their own caregivers. Each house has a living room with television and comfy chairs and an extra large, bright kitchen/dining area that overlooks a courtyard. Each kitchen has its own refrigerator that has extra treats for snacking. Family members can even bring an occasional treat to put in the refrigerator or freezer for their loved one. The four "houses" connect to a main activity center that houses a studio for art, bingo, and other activities; a community room with a piano for larger gatherings of trivia, exercises, music, movie nights, etc.; a nurse's office; and a room used by a barber, beautician, podiatrist, and dentist. My review is long; it needs to be to point out the many things a person needs to consider before placing a loved family member in a memory care facility. Arden Courts is a blessing! I saw more than enough places, but it wasn't until I saw Arden Courts of Northbrook and met the amazingly wonderful staff that I knew that was the only place for my brother.

I know that she is safe and all of her needs are being addressed. The caregivers are all dedicated to the well-being of the residents. I take great comfort in knowing that the staff and caregivers are taking care of my wife.
