I was in the Long Beach area for a chiro appointment and decided to find a coffee spot for a quick pick me up. Found this place via yelp. Let's begin with service: - the two baristas behind the bar were kind and courteous. Atmosphere: - cute shop. It's a nice place to sit/bask in the sun while enjoying your beverages/food. - the parking, sucks. You need to street park and it's quite the hassle. The food and pricing: - out of the four items I tried, the coffee and the cookie were the winners. The spinach croissant was decent, there was nothing spectacular about it. All the items weren't cheap but the three mentioned above were "normally/ decently priced." - the bacon scone however, was a joke. It was almost 5 dollars and the size of half my palm. Definitely inflated and not worth getting.

Really cute & cozy coffee shop! Not so many tables inside, but there were a few inside. There was quite a line, but it went by quickly. The staff were also really friendly! I got a usual latte and it was good! The blueberry muffin was also the perfect amount of sweet and paired well with the coffee. I need to go back and try other drinks and their food. They had a lot of pastries that looked amazing. There was a good amount of street parking around!

Great place to check out! Went around 10:30 AM on a Sunday so definitely a busy time, but the service was quick and the line moved fast. We were able to get a seat inside -- at first I was worried that it would be too loud inside because of the space. But nope! It didn't feel too much at all. It was my first time there and there was a sense of community in it just because of how friendly the staff were. Besides that I loved what I got (the iced London Fog - large with oat milk and a blueberry muffin) and all of that rounded out to about $14.66. This felt pretty average for the area/ LA. Would definitely come again on a nice day.

I am so happy I finally tried the Merchant. This place truly is worth the hype. I've ordered a few pastries from here and they're all so delicious. Their spinach Gouda pastry was so flakey and reminded me of a fancy spanakopita. I also tried their chocolate chip cookie and dare I say it's one of the best ones I've ever had. All the major cookie companies are getting a run for their money with this one. If you want a special pastry like their banana chocolate chip pancake banana bread, I suggest you stop by in the morning. They were completely sold out of pastries by noon. They also serve breakfast sandwich's and made to order burritos. I ordered the Vanilla Honey iced coffee with strawberry cold foam. The cold foam tastes like strawberry nesquick. The coffee is very rich and perfect for someone with a sweet tooth. My only issue with this place is that you place your order with one person and then pay with another when they're barely a few feet apart. I feel like it makes the process more complicated than it needs to be and makes the wait time worse. Especially since the ordering area is a bit cramped. The interior and exterior design of the shop is so cute. It has a very calm and small town feel to it. They also have plenty of street parking in the area. Give this place a try! You won't regret it.

We were in the area when I found this coffee spot. I checked the reviews and decided to give it a try. Parking was easy to find. (We came on a Wednesday around 11am) The inside of the cafe is very small, there is a table or two for seating but when ordering or looking to see what you're gonna get is awkwardly small. The open side to the left of the pastries is where you order. Then you get redirected to the right where the cashier is at to pay. Customer service was 10/10 !!! We ordered - Iced vanilla honey oatmilk latte: 10/10 perfection!!! Caramel latte: 10/10 Iced horchata latte: 10/10 Iced mocha: 10/10 Spinach quiche: 8.5/10 (ate it with the red salsa from the burritos and it was bomb!!!) Everything croissant: 10/10 my daughter is a very picky eater and she devoured it. A must have again when we come back! Now, for the burritos outside. The young guy working it 10/10 friendly customer service. They only offer two kinds of burritos "the morning mariner" and the "sunny sailor". I ordered one of each but "the sunny sailor was sold out" and there was only one of the "morning mariner" and it was barely 11am!! Happy for him to have sold out but really wanted to try both. The "morning mariner" was a 100000/10 !! The red salsa that came with it was also a 10000/10 !! I highly recommend this place!! I do not live close but this is a coffee spot I will be coming back to!! Especially for the honey oatmilk latte and the burritos!!

An incredibly cute spot, but unfortunately that was it for me. I've had this place bookmarked because of the popularity from the reviews and finally made it early enough to get coffee. My friend and I ordered the Honey Oat Vanilla Latte, hot. It was a rule that when we try a new coffee shop, we are only allowed to order one drink to test it out first before splurging for more. When my coffee was handed to me, I should have known how the latte would turn out, given that it felt burning through the paper cup. I waited for this to cool down before my friend and both tried it. It was quite watered down and disappointing. The longer we left it to cool, the more it started to taste like a hot chocolate. That was strange to us. Parking for the area is limited, so quite a pain in the butt. The structure of ordering is confusing, because you walk in a face a cash register right away. But then the shop directs you to the right first to order, then go back to the front/center to pay. Customer service was not much to review about, but the aesthetics of the shop is really cute and quaint. Unfortunately, this place was not for me.

The Merchant in Long Beach is such a great spot. The service is always good, and everyone working there is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The iced honey oat vanilla latte was so good--smooth, lightly sweet, and perfectly balanced. The ladies and gentlemen behind the counter are always smiling, which really makes the experience even better. Definitely a go-to coffee spot!

This cafe is my literal safe haven. I discovered it when I was out at a training in Long Beach, and so whenever I'm in the area I always come here. It's warm and cozy, and the workers are always welcoming. I always get their vanilla honey latte. The pastries are always great as well. I've had their gingerbread cookie (seasonal) and their chocolate croissant.

Awesome customer service, my drink was yummy without being overly sweet. Also the interior is such a vibe.

Just visited The Merchant in Long Beach, and I have to say it was a nice little change of scene from the usual coffee shop. I feel like most coffee shops I've been to lately are all about that minimalist, light-wood, marble-table aesthetic, which I really love but The Merchant felt more like stepping into a cozy, lived-in living room. They have darker woods, mixed-and-matched furniture, and a kind of eclectic, homey vibe that's really charming. I tried the iced vanilla honey oat latte with a vanilla foam top. At first, they forgot the foam top, but once once they added the foam top, it was a pretty good drink overall, maybe not the creamiest I've ever had, but I could definitely taste the honey and coffee flavors. It didn't quite wake me up as much as I hoped, but it was still a nice, tasty coffee. My husband had the iced caramel latte with a pumpkin spice foam, and that foam stole the show it really made the drink taste like pumpkin spice, which he enjoyed. They're environmentally conscious and don't offer straws, which is totally fine, but I did kind of miss having a straw for my coffee. Overall, it's a cute, dog-friendly place with a cozy vibe. The service was quick, and the coffee was pretty good. I'd happily pop back in if I'm in the neighborhood.

Came here on a Sundary around 9am wait to order was like 10 minutes. But to get drink was quick. Tight space primary seating outside. Service friendly feel can have more baristas they were busyyy. Ordered a guava flaky pastry it was sooo good felt fresh and was tasty. Orded a iced caramel latte it was a good size and tasted creamy on the sweeter side but good. Once we left the time was long outside so recommend going early. A but pricy. All in all would come again.

I completely regret having slept on this place for so long. What a fun little shop, with a very distinctive and unique style. First off, their entire pastry case looks amazing. Enticed by the chocolate chips, my toddler wanted to try the banana pancake bread. IT WAS SO GOOD. It was dense (because bananas and chocolate be like that), sweet (again, bananas and chocolate, plus a hint of maple), and filling. I tried their brown sugar sage iced latte, one of their autumn seasonal offerings. It was less sweet than anticipated (probably because I was sneaking bites of the aforementioned banana bread), but complex with the sage-iness. I think if you want to get a full bodied experience of this drink, pair it with something salty from the case. Service was prompt and friendly. Outdoor seating had lots of shade, and it looks like they're expanding more seating/dining into their adjacent space. We'll def be back.

    What are their sourdough options?

The times I've been there i'm not sure I have seen bread/loaves options in there, but I can be wrong, what I have I've seen sweet & savory pastries/treats on their shelf

How many bathrooms do you have?

I've seen one bathroom for customers

Are there outlets available for use out on the patio for remote working?

Unfortunately there is not any plugs outside! They also do not have wifi available for guests to use so just something to keep in mind!

When will you make challah again?

Is this a good place to come read a book or is it more get-in/get-out?

Perfect place to read a book. I would recommend mid afternoon when things have slowed down.

Do you have gluten free and vegan options? Also, do you have tea?

The sign on the building says Tea so yes they have tea.

    Any gluten free options?

Hello, No at this moment we’ve been working on vegan options lately and will soon move over to gluten free. Thanks for being patient with us.

    Do you allow dogs inside?

Service dogs - yes by law Other than that I am not completely sure.

Any Vegan Options? What about non dairy creamer?

Yes! Our sourdough, baguettes, and whole wheat batards are all vegan :)

    Be there soon?

I'm just a couple of minutes.

The fillings all had decent flavor, but none of them were outstanding or impressed me enough to want more. I will say, the green salsa they included with the order SIGNIFICANTLY improved the taste and experience of the empanadas. By itself, I'd rate the empanadas 3/5, but with the salsa, it definitely goes up to at least 4/5. But I dislike that the empanadas can't hold their own without the addition of the salsa. The shop is located in a plaza with a decent amount of parking. I think there were a few tables outside to enjoy the food, but not much seating otherwise.
