We love going to the Marshall Store for fresh oysters and a bowl of soup. Dress in layers as you never know if it's going to be cold and windy or just windy!

I love a good hole in the wall... or in this case, a tent on the side of the road overlooking Tamales Bay. The Killpatrick Oysters were delicious. Pro tip, dunk your roasted bread into the savory juices left in the oyster shells. Friendly staff and beautiful views.

This spot is a little off the beaten path but the food and views are well worth the detour, and a must-visit if you're planning a trip to the Point Reyes area. We ordered the clam chowder, a half dozen of the raw oysters, and a half dozen split between the chorizo and Kilpatrick oysters (when we couldn't decide between the two, they were nice enough to offer to split). Their clam chowder is our favorite in the Bay Area to date; it could've been slightly thicker in consistency, but there was a good proportion of clams and we loved the herby flavor. The raw oysters were fantastic! They were large and briny, and complemented well with their house-made sauce. We only wish we ordered more of these! We also enjoyed the chorizo and Kilpatrick oysters. Between the two, we both liked the Kilpatrick better as the chorizo was a little drier than anticipated (maybe lacking in a little extra butter), but we were glad to have tried both. The rustic sourdough side bread was also amazing! The crust was thick / crisp and the inside was incredibly soft and fluffy, with a little bit of butter inside. This spot is small, casual and peaceful! We really enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the water--Tomales Bay was calm and it was quiet out, even though there were several customers at The Marshall Store! We arrived right at 11 and a few people were already waiting outside for opening. This place is obviously popular because it started filling up fast!

After our kayak camping trip, our guide recommended The Marshall Store down the road for some seafood. Some dishes were 10/10, and some were just alright. We sat outside on the patio to enjoy the stunning view on that clear, sunny day. We shared half a dozen of raw oysters, the grilled Kilpatrick oysters with garlic butter and bacon, and the grilled Chorizo oysters with chorizo butter. Each order came with fluffy garlic bread. All the oysters tasted fresh and succulent, and I'd recommend the raw ones over the grilled ones. The bacon flavor dominated the Kilpatrick. I enjoyed the blackened rock cod sandwich and chorizo fish stew a lot. However, the fish tacos were a bit bland, and the ceviche tostada was just fine (I prefer my fish to be in larger chunks for ceviche). The local water buffalo gelato soft serve split into two cups is the way to go. Although it tasted pretty similar to regular soft serve, it was a nice way to finish off the meal.

The Marshall Store's a coastal delight, An oyster lover's pure appetite. The smoked ones shine with flavor so bold, Kilpatricks with bacon are savory gold. Raw with mignonette, fresh from the bay, A briny perfection that brightens your day. Sandwiches, chowder--both hearty and grand, Perfect for sharing why you get a tan. Order at the counter, then find your own seat, Under the roadside tent is where to sit if you have an adult drink-- Sip what you've brought while waves drift close, This is the oyster stop I love most.

Best day ever. We arrived on a saturday at 11:10 (they open at 11), we were able to get seated no problem. However, by the time we were finished (about an hour later), there was a huge line waiting to order. We sat outside, the sun was shining, beautiful! some bees kept trying to join our meal but that comes with eating outside. I LOVED this! Fresh oysters, rockefeller oysters, chorizo stew, cod sandwich. I think i liked the clam chowder more than the chorizo stew, but both still solid. I loved the foccacia bread of the cod sandwich. I also enjoyed how much bread came with the oysters - tbh it was a little TOO much bread, but still enjoyable.

The drive out to The Marshall Store is beautiful, though the road is quite windy--so if you get carsick easily, be prepared. Parking is available both before the restaurant and just past it, which makes things easy. Bathrooms are porta potties only. The dining area is fully outdoors and sits right above the water, offering an incredible view. Note that dogs aren't allowed inside the ordering area, so plan to come with a friend or be ready to leave your pup outside. After ordering, they bring the food out and call your name to make sure it goes to the right table. It can get chilly, so definitely bundle up. There are high bar tables where you can look out over the water as well as larger family-style tables. The oysters are the freshest! The clam chowder is a must-order, and all the sandwiches are great. On this trip we had the crab sandwich and the fish sandwich (served on focaccia)--both so delicious! The cooked oysters also come with toasted garlic bread. Amazing food all around!

First time going here & had an amazing experience. Every year we drive down to Bodega Bay to get oysters for my fathers birthday. But this time we decided to stop here first. WOW!!!!! The most sweet oysters I have ever had. We also got the grilled oysters and it had so much flavor! Looking forward to going back during summer!

    Nathalie T.

We came here before opening and there was already a line - if that tells you anything! Beautiful spot with LOTs of outdoor seating which lines the building and along the water/road side. There was only one vegetarian option - a vegetarian sandwich which was quite nice but no protein. The sauce and vegetables were fresh and tasty! The meat eaters really enjoyed the oysters and said it was the best oysters they have had - EVER! The staff are super kind, and it was a beautiful set up.

Absolute MUST GO to place in Point Reyes. We were camping nearby and drove to get a parking spot early. We had time to peruse the menu and knew what we wanted...oysters, of course. We got a couple of grilled oysters with the toppings. Next time, we will try other items on the menu, but we were here for the oysters. They let me order/pay for my soft serve ice cream when I made my oyster order. Then when we were done with the oysters, I could just go back and show my receipt to get the ice cream...no waiting in the long line. The place filled up very quickly, so if you can get there as close to opening as you can, it will make it easier to get a seat, etc. Have someone save you a spot.

Why 4 stars? Because this was a memorable experience, if nothing else. --- --- --- My Dad and I were spending the day on a scenic drive through Marin County/North Bay. I wasn't sure if we were going to end up all the way in Bodega Bay or if we could stop short of there, so I bookmarked a couple of options for both scenarios. We ended up being quite hungry pretty early on, so we went for the "don't drive all the way to Bodega Bay" option. That brought us here, to Marshall. The appeal is that the restaurant is perfectly situated between the water and the mountain. Because of that location, you pay a premium price for your food here. The tax for an amazing view - and I was happy to pay it. The unfortunate thing here is that we picked the windiest day in the history of Earth to come here. I have never stood outside during a hurricane, but I would imagine that it couldn't be more intense than it was on this day. There were no seats available inside, so we headed to the covered tent area, and unfortunately, there were no spots there either! We eventually grabbed the first open table, but it was barely covered by the tent and the wind was still hitting us quite intensely. We quickly realized that we definitely were going to need to find a new table before our food arrived. A bunch of people were all lingering around trying to find a table themselves, but we were very lucky and ended up getting one ourselves that was a lot more shielded from the wind. Granted, it was still not very pleasant, but it was definitely better than the other table. Now that we were settled, it was time for the food: BBQ Oysters: 5-stars. I have never seen BBQ Oysters on a menu before. I love BBQ. I love oysters. And I loved the combination. Clam Chowder: 4-stars. Good - not great, not bad. The temperature was my favorite part in these crazy winds on a chilli day. Fish Tacos: 3-stars. To be honest, I didn't really like much about these, so 3-stars is probably generous. And they were $20 for two very small tacos. Cookie: 4-stars. This was a hearty cookie with a nice mix of salty and sweet. My dad very much enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich and raved about how much food he got for the money - basically the opposite of the fish tacos. And when he said that's what he was going to order, I shamed him for not ordering seafood at a place like this. He got the last laugh. Friendly people and amazing views, but choose an alternative if it's windy.

Stopping at The Marshall Store was easily one of the best decisions I made while visiting San Francisco. I had heard great things, but nothing could have prepared me for how incredible the experience was. As soon as I arrived, I was blown away by the view--right on the water, with boats passing by and the most peaceful, picturesque setting. Sitting outside with the salty breeze and the sound of the waves made it feel like a perfect little escape. Now, let's talk about the food--because wow. I started with the BBQ oysters, and they were unreal--smoky, buttery, and packed with flavor. I also tried the raw oysters, which were some of the freshest I've ever had, briny in the best way. And the clam chowder? Absolutely perfect--creamy, rich, and full of fresh clams. Every bite felt like a taste of the ocean. The whole vibe was so laid-back and welcoming. It's an order-at-the-counter kind of place, so you just grab your food, find a seat by the water, and take it all in. No frills, just amazing food and even better views. If I lived nearby, I'd be here all the time. Next time I'm in the Bay Area, The Marshall Store is at the top of my list!

    Dog friendly patio?

Yes, the covered seating area by the parking is dog friendly. That’s also where you have to sit if you purchase booze.

Are there any other available outdoor seating besides the tent area?

Yes. There's the downstairs section with umbrellas outside. Another place to order. Also, the upstairs waterfront along the outer perimeter of the restaurant

How busy is it on Sunday? Should we arrive early before opening?

It gets quite busy, there's almost always a wait. I would arrive as early as possible.

Can we make reservations for 8?

Unfortunately they do not take reservations, they operate first come first serve

Is okay to bring your own alcohol?

No. Outside alcohol or food is not allowed.

Are they usually closed on Monday or Tuesday?thank you

    Closed Tuesdays only

Are there still dollar oyster specials on Thursdays?

They still call it dollar oysters but they are actually about 1.30 each when you get a dozen raw oysters.

    Can you bring dogs?

When I was there, they were allowed in the outdoor seating.

Go Shuck Yourself…read more First established in 1948 by Croatian fisherman Anton "Tony" Konatich, Tony's is a legendary spot in the quiet seaside town of Marshall. It served up some of the freshest seafood and oysters around until 2017, when it closed due to the owners wanting to retire. Fortunately, nearby Hog Island Oyster Co. saw an opportunity to buy them out and keep this historic restaurant going for future generations. The gamble paid off, as Tony's was awarded Michelin Guide "Recommended" recognition in 2021 and every year thereafter. The Good: * Reservations via Resy * Outdoor seating * Great harbor views from any seat in the house * Fantastic service from "Kyle R." We started chatting about oysters, and when the subject of Carissa being a raw oyster virgin came up, he wasn't having any of that. He quickly brought us two complimentary raw oysters with escabeche sauce to try. Now that's customer service! * Local brews on tap, though not a huge selection. * Speaking of oysters, the grilled oysters with miso-nori butter were absolutely fantastic. So much umami flavor that I could've eaten a bucket of them. * The seafood stew (basically a cioppino) was absolutely packed with goodness and featured a rich, delicious tomato broth. The perfect dish for the cold, damp weather common here. * The buttermilk panna cotta dessert was absolutely fantastic. The custard was smooth and elegant, and I loved the added crunch of the granola and sweet pops of fruit from the fresh blackberries. Simple, but executed perfectly. The Meh: * Cell phone reception is spotty at best in this area, so make sure you set your navigation before you start driving over * Fish tacos were just OK. Probably not the thing to get here, but they were edible The Ugly: * Parking is kind of a shit show. There are a few spots in front of the restaurant, but you'll most likely have to park along the shoulder of the highway a bit farther down Conclusion: Tony's is one of those hidden gems that fits the description to a "T." If you're a lover of seafood, great service, and ocean views, this place is a must.

Freshness overload, plain and simple. Hog Island Oyster Co. delivers the kind of unpretentious excellence that makes you forget the daily grind You sit at rustic picnic tables overlooking the water, but what lands in front of you could rival any white-tablecloth restaurant in the city. Each oyster tastes like the ocean decided to tell you a secret--briny, bright, impossibly fresh. The BBQ oysters are smoky perfection, while the raw platter feels like a masterclass in minimalism. We decided in the chipotle grilled oysters and although I am always partial to raw this came close to changing my mind - it was rich buttery and spicy They don't have a real kitchen so no clam chowders - would have been nice since it was a chilly day. We also got the mussels escabeche and smokes albacore - delicious and subtly seasoned. We went on a Saturday and even though we came early working was a struggle - though worth it. The other challenge is the bathroom situation - not the cleanest A bit pricey but I guess for the quality and where it's at - it's worth it. It's the rare spot where simplicity and sophistication meet quietly, without trying too hard. Nothing feels forced, everything feels right. Come hungry, leave salt-kissed and happy.

Please make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting an hour, ALSO you will get turned away if there is no seating (several people after us got turned away). During our wait, we walked the grounds, explored their general store and sat and talked which was great because there is no service in the area, it gives a chance for people to connect. The hostess was very nice even though it was busy. He was very attentive and even took our order so we can get food even time for the kitchen closing instead of having us wait for a waiter. We ordered the cheeseboard, bourbon butter oysters, and the miso oysters. All were great, although I may skip the miso oysters next time to try some raw ones with their mignonette. Wine was also great. They had a really good selection. This would be a beautiful place to come during the summer since it's right off the water and just the drive there was so scenic. It can get busy there so we parked on the side of the road but from what I can see there is plenty of parking. Lastly, they sell oysters at the general store sooo if you don't want to wait if you didn't make reservations. There's a table right in front of the store and you can shuck away!

The crab sandwich is real fresh, I kinda wish they toasted the bread, but would still recommend it. It came with a few slices of carrot that seemed random IMO, but still ate it. Also, you can't go wrong with the fish and chips! Service was straight-forward - you order and pay at the counter, then take your number to seat where your food is delivered. Even more disappointing was the $20 crab sandwich. The portion was extremely small--about the size of chicken teeth) and it was served on what looked like a hot dog bun. For that price, I expected a more generous portion and at least a decent, fresh, high-quality bread. I've never seen anything like this in the Bay Area, especially at that price point.
