I love Marshall for their fresh oysters. If you want raw or cooked oysters, Marshall has it! I couldn't go wrong with their food. I came here a few times and every time it has been consistently good food. When you arrive you enter a small entry doorway where you order first and the waiter comes and gives you your food. They have great service and wait staff. The only thing is challenging is finding seats because during the weekend it can get crowded with limited seating in the patio. The view is beautiful when the sunset hits the water and has a really nice scenery to take pictures. I definitely recommend the raw over the grilled. Some of the sauces can be overpowering which you can't control. The melted Brie cheese is so good on toasted bread. The smoked salmon was ok. It was a little salty when I tried it and I would skip it next time and just stick to oysters and their crab sandwich, or the melted Brie! read more

With Tony's backed up with lines spilling on to PCH, we headed to The Marshall Store. Laid back and rustic with outdoor-only seating on metal chairs and wood tables set on wood chips, the Marshall Store has counter ordering, and they later bring food out to your table. Outside you'll find a porta-potty bathroom set up, as operations here are rustic. This is a casual waterfront dining experience that is completely outside and works best on a sunny day. The seaside views are pretty, the clam chowder is creamy, and the shrimp po boy ($22) on a cheese jalapeño roll with pickled toppings is a solid order. They have a self service mini-frig with beer, half bottles of champagne, mini Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc and sodas. Our oysters Rockefeller somehow got lost on the counter for 30 minutes before staff found it, and comped the dish to us. We ate them and I unfortunately regretted it. They tasted good in the moment, but they led to nausea and an upset stomach. Super friendly staff, harbor and bay views, and fresh cut flowers slightly smoothed some of the rough edges. This spot is a little off the beaten path but the food and views are well worth the detour, and a must-visit if you're planning a trip to the Point Reyes area. We ordered the clam chowder, a half dozen of the raw oysters, and a half dozen split between the chorizo and Kilpatrick oysters (when we couldn't decide between the two, they were nice enough to offer to split). Their clam chowder is our favorite in the Bay Area to date; it could've been slightly thicker in consistency, but there was a good proportion of clams and we loved the herby flavor. The raw oysters were fantastic! They were large and briny, and complemented well with their house-made sauce. We only wish we ordered more of these! We also enjoyed the chorizo and Kilpatrick oysters. Between the two, we both liked the Kilpatrick better as the chorizo was a little drier than anticipated (maybe lacking in a little extra butter), but we were glad to have tried both. The rustic sourdough side bread was also amazing! The crust was thick / crisp and the inside was incredibly soft and fluffy, with a little bit of butter inside. This spot is small, casual and peaceful! We really enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the water--Tomales Bay was calm and it was quiet out, even though there were several customers at The Marshall Store! After our kayak camping trip, our guide recommended The Marshall Store down the road for some seafood. Some dishes were 10/10, and some were just alright. We sat outside on the patio to enjoy the stunning view on that clear, sunny day. We shared half a dozen of raw oysters, the grilled Kilpatrick oysters with garlic butter and bacon, and the grilled Chorizo oysters with chorizo butter. Each order came with fluffy garlic bread. All the oysters tasted fresh and succulent, and I'd recommend the raw ones over the grilled ones. The bacon flavor dominated the Kilpatrick. I enjoyed the blackened rock cod sandwich and chorizo fish stew a lot. However, the fish tacos were a bit bland, and the ceviche tostada was just fine (I prefer my fish to be in larger chunks for ceviche). The local water buffalo gelato soft serve split into two cups is the way to go. Although it tasted pretty similar to regular soft serve, it was a nice way to finish off the meal. read more

Best day ever. We arrived on a saturday at 11:10 (they open at 11), we were able to get seated no problem. However, by the time we were finished (about an hour later), there was a huge line waiting to order. We sat outside, the sun was shining, beautiful! some bees kept trying to join our meal but that comes with eating outside. I LOVED this! Fresh oysters, rockefeller oysters, chorizo stew, cod sandwich. I think i liked the clam chowder more than the chorizo stew, but both still solid. I loved the foccacia bread of the cod sandwich. The drive out to The Marshall Store is beautiful, though the road is quite windy--so if you get carsick easily, be prepared. Parking is available both before the restaurant and just past it, which makes things easy. Bathrooms are porta potties only. The dining area is fully outdoors and sits right above the water, offering an incredible view. Note that dogs aren't allowed inside the ordering area, so plan to come with a friend or be ready to leave your pup outside. After ordering, they bring the food out and call your name to make sure it goes to the right table. It can get chilly, so definitely bundle up. There are high bar tables where you can look out over the water as well as larger family-style tables. The oysters are the freshest! The clam chowder is a must-order, and all the sandwiches are great. On this trip we had the crab sandwich and the fish sandwich (served on focaccia)--both so delicious! We came here before opening and there was already a line - if that tells you anything! Beautiful spot with LOTs of outdoor seating which lines the building and along the water/road side. There was only one vegetarian option - a vegetarian sandwich which was quite nice but no protein. The sauce and vegetables were fresh and tasty! We got a couple of grilled oysters with the toppings. Next time, we will try other items on the menu, but we were here for the oysters. They let me order/pay for my soft serve ice cream when I made my oyster order. Then when we were done with the oysters, I could just go back and show my receipt to get the ice cream...no waiting in the long line. The place filled up very quickly, so if you can get there as close to opening as you can, it will make it easier to get a seat, etc. Have someone save you a spot. read more

Why 4 stars? Because this was a memorable experience, if nothing else. --- --- --- My Dad and I were spending the day on a scenic drive through Marin County/North Bay. I wasn't sure if we were going to end up all the way in Bodega Bay or if we could stop short of there, so I bookmarked a couple of options for both scenarios. We ended up being quite hungry pretty early on, so we went for the "don't drive all the way to Bodega Bay" option. That brought us here, to Marshall. The appeal is that the restaurant is perfectly situated between the water and the mountain. Because of that location, you pay a premium price for your food here. The tax for an amazing view - and I was happy to pay it. The unfortunate thing here is that we picked the windiest day in the history of Earth to come here. I have never stood outside during a hurricane, but I would imagine that it couldn't be more intense than it was on this day. There were no seats available inside, so we headed to the covered tent area, and unfortunately, there were no spots there either! We eventually grabbed the first open table, but it was barely covered by the tent and the wind was still hitting us quite intensely. We quickly realized that we definitely were going to need to find a new table before our food arrived. A bunch of people were all lingering around trying to find a table themselves, but we were very lucky and ended up getting one ourselves that was a lot more shielded from the wind. Granted, it was still not very pleasant, but it was definitely better than the other table. Now that we were settled, it was time for the food: BBQ Oysters: 5-stars. I have never seen BBQ Oysters on a menu before. I love BBQ. I love oysters. And I loved the combination. Clam Chowder: 4-stars. Good - not great, not bad. The temperature was my favorite part in these crazy winds on a chilli day. Fish Tacos: 3-stars. To be honest, I didn't really like much about these, so 3-stars is probably generous. And they were $20 for two very small tacos. Cookie: 4-stars. This was a hearty cookie with a nice mix of salty and sweet. My dad very much enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich and raved about how much food he got for the money - basically the opposite of the fish tacos. And when he said that's what he was going to order, I shamed him for not ordering seafood at a place like this. He got the last laugh. I cannot recommend this place enough! I spent my 30th birthday here last year and we were able to get some tables for our group. Their oysters are amazing. It's so fun because you're right outside near the water. We went hiking before and came here for lunch. Such a great escape from San Francisco. I've been up here for other celebrations as well. Make sure to come hungry! Their is a nice selection of hot and warm foods. They bake their bread in house. I can recommend the fresh oysters, crab sandwich, tri tip sandwich and veggie sandwiches. There isn't a ton of service out here so just keep that in mind if you are navigating google maps. Also bring some warm clothes because it can get chilly. I mostly recently came when it was raining and many opted for the clam chowder. Even though it's raining it is covered so you'll stay dry. Hands down give this place a try. read more

I've been here many times. Just haven't been here in almost 4 yrs. Wow, time flies. I made the almost 90 min drive on Mother's Day. Timed it so we'd arrive just as they opened. To our somewhat surprise, there was already a line and small groups of people saving tables (though staff kindly said it wasn't allowed) as we snagged a parking spot past the road side awnings. The weather was gorgeous, a bit breezy, so glad I brought an extra jacket, checking the weather before leaving the house. In the 50s. We waited no more than 15 minutes as we took turns using the outdoor port-a-potties. I don't recall them being this...gross in the past. To boot, they were out of (sink) water just outside, so we were directed to go downstairs and ask to use the main sink. Note: They now have a downstairs area where you can order and seat. It's separate from the main ordering area (upstairs aka street level). As Hubs was in line to order, I went to look for a table. Although the sun was out, it was a bit too chilly to sit outside to eat facing the water. Opted to sit inside near the oyster prep and oyster grilling kitchen where it was nice and cozy, still giving us the water front view. Onto the food. The sandwiches came out first. Tri tip and then probably 15 minutes later, the crab sandwich. The tri tip had a nice thick cut of foccacia bread, a good size layers of crispy chilled lettuce, tomatoes, a sauce (can't remember what) thinly sliced trip tip, a side of pickled onions (my fav). The sandwich is extremely messy and dripped onto my pants so get some napkins near the oyster bar area. 3.5/5 The crab sandwich came next. Fresh chunks of dungeness crab meat piled on top of a toasted roll and sliced of chilled cucumbers. Again, those pickled onions I love. The crab itself didn't have much flavor or dressing. I generally like crab pure with my frills or sauces. But this sando was just that. Crab lumps lacking flavor. 3/5 Yes, I know this place is known for oysters but I still wanted to try their sandwiches because...why not? Of course, we ordered oysters! 3 types to be exact. Rockafeller (classic), Kilpatrick (sp?) With the bacon and bbq sauce, and the chorizo. I always forget that the Rockafeller, although it was very tasty, cheesy, and flavorful, it was my least favorite (dunno why I always order it whenever I come). 3/5 Hubs insisted on the Chorizo, and I am glad he ordered it bc this was actually my favorite out of the three. The chorizo oils really marinated into the oysters during the grilling process that every bite and slurp of the juice was just delicious. 4/5 And last, the "BBQ and bacon" one. Lots of smoky flavors. Some had a bit too much sauce that took away from the oysters. 3.5/5 There is this crusty garlic bread that is served with the oysters. My DD'S favorite. Note: She never grew up liking bread but this bread she wanted to even take home the leftovers. It was that good to her. 4/5 Service was great and efficient. Oysters took some time to come out because they literally make them to order, sitting next to the prep/ grill station. The view was amazing. 4/5 Had to also grab a chocolate chip cookie. I came to the Marshall store on a Tuesday, which is a shuck your own oyster day. My boyfriend and I are not very skilled at doing this type of thing, so Anthony came out to help us, even though there was a line outside the door! He was so sweet for that, and I am so grateful to him. Earlier, he very graciously explained to me what types of oysters they caught that day, the different flavors of them, and his recommendations. We ended up loving all of them, and it was so much fun. My recommendation is to come early, (most places and Marshall close at four which means they might even start cleaning around three) and on a weekend if you don't know how to be a competent oyster shucker! On a sunny windy Saturday, we stopped by the Marshall store with our dog for lunch. It was crowded but we were able to find a table outside under the tents by the bay along the main road. Food arrived quickly and it was amazing. We ordered baked Brie, smoked trout and blackened cod with six oysters. It was just the two of us and we were hungry!
