The bakery is only open on certain days, so plan ahead. But let me tell you, the almond croissant is the star! The filling is sweet enough, not too dry, and the croissant itself is incredibly crispy. The coffee is fresh and delicious too. We also tried the vanilla sugar cookie, and it was really good! Definitely give it a try--you're gonna love it! read more

Stopped by this cute little bakery on a Sunday afternoon into Bodega Bay. No wait, no lines. We ordered the strawberry cheesecake which was decadent, not too rich, and heavier on the crust. The strawberry croissant was slightly tart, perfect accompaniment to the sweet cream and butteriness. The roasted strawberry mocha was too chocolate forward for me but you can taste subtle notes of strawberry. Service was very fast and the ladies were kind. Definitely a great stop for carbs in between all your seafood eats! read more

Great little coffee shop and bakery in Tomales, right on CA-1, the Pacific Coast Highway. We needed to recharge for another day of our Pt. Reyes getaway, so we hit this spot, a short walk from our Airbnb. First and foremost, great service. The folks working there were genuinely friendly, attentive, and helpful. There was also a gentleman there as a customer, I believe he was related to one of the employees, who was so sweet and helpful with getting the door for us and helping us get a place to sit, as we juggled our ordered items and wandered around in a bit of a stupor before we had had our coffee. Thank you, good sir. I am still genuinely amazed at how nice people are in these small, off-the-beaten-path towns, as opposed to in the overpacked rat cage urban areas. Popular spot, with a good number of bicyclists, passers-through, and locals coming in for coffee and eats. They have an impressive selection of pastries and sandwiches, and I really wish I had tried the veggie croissant which looked great. We got coffees and shared a slice of quiche. I got my usual iced coffee, and happily, they had oat milk to go with it. After we paid, we realized they also have momos, so you know we had to get a round. We left happy, awake, and ready for another day. read more

Had a two day stay in Tomales and this was right across the street. Store is nice and clean with options to sit indoor or outdoor. The lady running the register was very kind and I decided to get the blackberry London fog. It was delicious! I went with iced off her recommendation and I'm sure it's great hot as well. Just wanted a little caffeine but next time I'm in the area I'll need to try their baked goods :) read more

Decided to check this place out after a weekend at the beach. We walked up to the counter after wait in line. This place gets really busy so you might want to come early. They have seating outside I didn't notice any inside. So much yummy and delicious breads and treats. They also serve coffee and other drinks. We ordered sourdough bread w/cheddar cheese, a veggie croissant w/mushrooms and seeds, a danish w/strawberry and cream inside and coffee. Everything was fresh and delicious! They also have pizzas, salads and sandwiches which I will try next time around. If you're in the area go give them a try. read more

Great stop for pastry / bread! - Key lime pie slice: real lime zest, not artificial at all. Delicious crust as well! - Chocolate chip cookie: got this at the marshall store and it was the perfect texture, crispy edge but soft middle. Flaky salt on top to complete it. - Seeded bread: got this at hog island and it was perfect, fluffy with black sesame sprinkled throughout read more

Came here after seeing all the good reviews about their pizza. We went during the week so they were only serving the thick crust square pizza. We had pepperoni and mushroom. Both were good but I prefer thin crust which is only served on the weekends. There was plenty of outdoor seating. If you want to get any baked goods, go early. read more

We were almost across the street waking up. We had water. We had coffee. We had a coffee maker. We just didn't have the will to put all those together to make coffee so we headed down the street. We just couldn't pull it together at the AirBnB. The place was packed with a line of 10 people to order and bodies inside and out mostly bicyclists, motorcycle riders and people with dogs. We ordered a coffee, iced coffee and quiche. After ordering we noticed they had momo's on the kraft paper menu so I ordered a momo for my partner and a momo, hold the OJ, for me. Dranks gone and time to head to Dillon Beach. Interesting side note.... This place bakes the bread served at The Marshall Store with their oysters. Again, if we lived here or close by we would frequent this place often. They have a lot of sandos and salads ready to go and extensive menu. read more

Went here for breakfast after staying at the hotel in town. Stuffed croissants, quiche, and pastries, as well as premade sandwiches. Hot and cold drinks were available. Staff were pleasantly responsive and service was great. It was too early to see any pizza. Indoor & outdoor seating. read more

This was one of the best bakeries I have ever been to, and I have been to a few of the spots in Paris. This rivals all of them. Look, if you just ate are are stuffed, you still need to stock up on some road trip snacks for later. And their coffee is exceptional. I am salivating just thinking about their baked goods. Small boutique bakery that meets and exceeds any expectations. Worth EVERY calorie. Prices are reasonable. Do yourself a favor, stop by and get some top tiered baked goods. You can thank me later.. read more

Valentine's Day at Route One Bakery in Tomales was perfect. I had a rich mocha and a homemade apple pie with a flaky crust. My partner got a savory side of meatballs and an amazing turtle cheesecake--creamy, decadent, with caramel and chocolate done right. Cozy vibe, great food, we'll be back. Staff was friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful without being overbearing. We loved it so much we went back the next day for pizza, roast beef sandwich, and more pastries!!! read more

Do not venture to West Marin without a stop at Route One Bakery & Kitchen! My daughter and I visited on a summer weekday from Inverness. She loved the unique hot chocolate croissant (think smores) and I was a big fan of the banana bread. We played in a nearby playground after our pastries and then came back to grab pizza to take home for lunch. Their focaccia pizza is otherworldly! If you're a mushroom lover, definitely don't miss that one! I also enjoyed their Caesar salad. We came back on Saturday before heading home to get more pizza and some sourdough bread. My daughter asked for toast every day for breakfast for as long as the bread lasted. Route One Bakery & Kitchen is a very special bakery; don't miss it! read more

WOW FACTOR? Great location. Attractive bakery. HAVE AGAIN: Pecan roll was excellent. Focaccia with potatoes and bacon was very good. Ham and cheese sandwich was good. NOT HAVE AGAIN: Did not care for the Millionare bar - to much caramel and not enough chocolate. read more

We showed up later in the day. Right before they closed. The staff were awesome, polite and helpful. Most things were sold out but we found plenty of goodies to snack on after a day at the beach. Highly recommend the pizza was so good! And the Mexican hot chocolate croissant was amazing! The best chocolate croissant I've had. Topped with a toasted mallow cream. They closed while we were there so the staff offered us free sourdough loafs to wish we gladly excepted. We worked through the loaf over the next few days. For someone who geeked out on sourdough making during Covid and now has a true appreciation for quality sourdough. I can say this place makes a great loaf with a perfect crumb! Highly recommend this place and look forward to going back! read more

I truly hesitate to write this review and call to your attention one of the BEST bakeries you will ever visit. The more you know the more likely you will visit making it more likely I am going to have to wait in a long line..... So what can you expect when you stop here? Melt in your mouth pastries, amazing focaccia, sourdough bread, pizza (we didn't try it this time), desserts, coffee and more. Croissants that are flaky, light, buttery, some savory some with chocolate, almond, big enough to share but you will want it all to yourself. The Cinnamon roll was like nothing I have had before (I am pretty sure they only make them on Sat/Sun), fluffy, sweet, with perfect frosting and just the right amount of cinnamon.....a must try. We bought a loaf of Sourdough bread to take home, it was oh so good!!!!! Service was excellent, yes, this is not a budget place, but trust me worth every penny (and more). We went early on a Sunday in Feb., wasn't too busy (about six others were there when we were there), but I have heard that during the summer this place can have very long waits (and it is literally in the middle of no where). Nice outdoor area, inside is basically just a place to order. Take a trip up to Pt. Reyes, stop here on the way to grab some goodies to eat when you get to Drakes Bay, and make sure you have extra to take back home with you. read more

The bread here is incredible. I got their sourdough round with olives and it was airy and moist, but not too hole-y such that it's hard to put a spread on it. I didn't love the hint of black pepper in the olive bread, so I'd probably get a regular sourdough round next time. I was most excited about the Roman-style pizza, but this ended up being underwhelming for me. I found the crust too crispy and there was too much bread relative to toppings. The version here feels more like a hybrid between American style and Roman style pizza - a bit heavier on the melted cheese with a noticeable crust. If you're not feeling pizza, the chicken salad sandwich is a solid bet. Sweets wise, the oatmeal cranberry cookie was really good, soft and not too sweet, and my boyfriend was a fan of the strawberry rhubarb pie. read more

Stopped here on my way for a weekend trip in NorCal and I continue to think about the pizza here! Their specialty is definitely bread, and I can attest that their pizza, sourdough, and pastries are the best you'll ever taste! Not to mention their mocha coffee with fresh whipped cream and orange zest is to die for! read more

Almond Croissant & a Morning Bun... plus a round of Cheddar/Jalapeno Sourdough. So delicious. *Hadn't visited in awhile & was pleased to see they've updated the place and now have service inside the building. Best sourdough I've ever had; get the seed bread. Amazing flaky raspberry hand pie. Dense coffee cake. Delicious ham & cheese croissant.

Stopped by after coming back from a walk on the beach. I got a loaf of focaccia and a persimmon chocolate scone. Both were really good! I took the focaccia home and crisped it up in the oven and the crust on the bottom was divine. The onions on top were rich and caramely and I enjoyed the texture and flavor the seeds and zucchini gave. The persimmon scone was good as well! I wish the persimmon flavor was a little stronger, but it is a pretty mellow fruit after all. Would stop by again if in the area and craving some bread. read more

A MUST stop while driving/cycling along CA1. A few years ago, my husband and I stumbled across this place while in the area and decided to try their kouign amann. It was our first one and we were hooked on the flaky buttery layers with caramel crust and bright fruity filling. Then the pandemic happened and we hunted all over for more of them in our local area. Despite having found really good ones, we could never get route 1 bakery out of our minds and wondered if it was just the first time magic or if that particular pastry was truly the "queen among" all the others. We have since been back and I can confirm that this is the best kouign amann I've ever had. I will gladly drive 1-2 hours on any given weekend to satisfy my pastry craving. Their other baked good selection and coffee is also great, but the real star is their kouign amann. read more
