Ok, let me say first that the atmosphere and the workers there are super nice and appears to be a great buffet. However, beware of places that say they serve several meats and vegetables. We had catfish, chicken tenders, fried chicken, hamburger steak, corn dogs, sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried steak, and chicken livers and several kinds of vegetables. Most items were warm not hot at all. The hamburger steak and the chicken fried steak looked like banquet frozen meal meat and tasted even worse. The chicken livers were inedible. They were pink inside and I have had a lot of chicken livers in my life none like these! The catfish was tough and I couldn't find one thing on the bar that even looked good. Everything is bland and the glazed carrots on the buffet were so tough and shriveled up that looked like they had been sitting for days. None of the vegetables looked good. They have a dessert bar as well with ice cream, but this is where I drew the line. When we walked over there to get dessert there was a piece of chocolate cake sitting there. We almost grabbed it until we see gnats flying out of the cake. They weren't on top of it they were flying from the inside of the cake, almost as if they have been living inside of the cake. If you look at the pecan pie picture you can see the gnat on the plate but the chocolate cake if you zoom in you can clearly see the gnats on it. Disgusting to say the least and regret even stopping in! One of the nastiest buffets I think I have been to and after spending $45.00 we should have just got us a pizza and called it a day! The food was good, some was a little old on the first plate; but we came in after the dinner rush...and the cook did see what we were mostly eating and brought out fresh on those and more. Our waitress was very kind and did a great job, even with some lady who seemed to be from the kitchen who kept nagging at her and being disrespectful to the waitress and the customers still in the restaurant. The older lady from the kitchen truly made the meal less enjoyable, and tonight was their seafood buffet; so it was about $25 per person. To our waitress, the sweet lady at the dessert bar; and the cook....you rock! To the nagging Karen, do better or go let off some steam out back! Stumbled into the Plantation buffet restaurant today after having seen it recommended on Facebook and happening to be in the area. We apparently arrived for the lunch buffet which cost 13.99 a person. I had a fantastic time, it was super fun to load up my plates and get a little bit of everything. My first plate I got pulled bbq pork, baked beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, a hush puppy, hot okra, corn and some kind of green bean and potato dish with beef. This plate was delicious. I loved the baked beans and pork the best, but the potatoes and gravy were also really good! The hot okra was way too spicy for me unfortunately, but luckily I only grabbed a couple to try. Second plate was orange blossom chicken, rice, Mac n cheese, and more pulled pork and baked beans and a hush puppy. I did not enjoy the Mac n cheese, it had almost zero flavor at all, but everything else on this plate was great. My husband got some similar items but he started with the salad bar and made a big salad. For dessert I had a little plate of cheese cake, two plates of carrot cake, and a cup of vanilla ice cream. The dessert were all very yummy! The restaurant is very large inside with ample tables, interesting decor, and a kids zone in the back that looked to have arcade games. The bathrooms were super clean, in fact a young woman had just finished cleaning the bathrooms as I was entering. All in all we both left very full for a price tag of 13.99 each. Getting to try so many different things was really fun. By my second plate I was getting full and there was still other things I would've liked to try but I wanted room for dessert as well. It was 16.99 per person for a Friday night buffet because there was seafood on the menu. The food was ok. The shock came towards the end of the meal when we were informed that we could only have ONE dessert. Normally this would not be a problem. But I had chosen the banana pudding. It was just ok. My friend told me the cobbler was really good. But I couldn't have it. By the time I realized I was cobbler blocked she had eaten all of her cobbler. She offered to let me lick the bowl. When you're ever in Dickson, Tennessee make sure you eat at the Plantation Restaurant. The restaurant is locally owned by Chris and Marcia Lucas and the southern food is absolutely off the chart. When you first walk in the first thing that stands out are all the American flags. Then you're really going to notice that on the three walls in front of you are tributes to active military veterans, Viet Nam veterans and to fallen police officer's. You have to take time to visit all three walls and see the table set for the MIA and POWs. When I came in it wasn't long before I was seated by my hostess Amanda. She was pleasant and she immediately gave me a rundown on everything that was available as well as the history. Here are some of the items on the Buffet: Fried chicken, smoked pulled pork,baked beans, lima beans, black-eyed peas,fried okra, peas, grits, white cream gravy, steamed rice. They even had orange blossom chicken, turnip greens, fried gizzards, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy along with fried cabbage and yes ham hock and white beans. I was really stuffed trying all the items here at the plantation buffet. If you leave hungry it is your fault. For those of you who prefer seafood they have that as well. They have delicious mouthwatering shrimp cocktail, fried butterfly shrimp, baked fish, chicken gumbo, low country boil, beef brisket, blackened fish as well as jumbo shrimp. You really can't go wrong here at the plantation restaurant. No meal would be complete without some of their desserts. There is something for everyone. Assorted pies and cakes and top it off with ice cream. Better yet, try some delicious banana putting or peach cobbler. Wonderful buffet and real down home cooking like grandma used to make. Lots of good veggies and fried chicken and pulled pork. Top it off with the dessert bar and you'll walk away stuffed! The highlight of the meal is the opportunity to browse the walls and look at all of the pictures of the men who served in our armed forces. You can find those everywhere and they add this thing to food called flavor. This place must not invest in those or just do not use much of them. I've eaten here twice to give it a fair shake but really it hasn't improved. The service has but the food, not so much. Actually, I've eaten at the original place when it was previously located in Vanleer. So I guess it's a three strikes kind of deal. Just not good. As always, this is just my two cents. Yesterday my wife and I met our friends for lunch at The Plantation Restaurant, and I was definitely impressed by this exceptional Southern Style buffet. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the large open seating area with a high ceiling. On the wall to the right is a wonderful tribute to veterans, with several photos and other military memorabilia. The folks we were dining with actually have their photo on the wall. The music was an oldies playlist, and it fit the atmosphere perfectly. The service was friendly and very good. To the left is a large buffet area filled with a wide variety of Southern staple dishes, and there were so many great choices that I couldn't try them all this time around. There is a large salad bar with everything you need for a fresh tasty salad, and the dessert bar was along the back wall with a wide selection of pies, cakes, cobblers, ice cream, and cookies. I really enjoyed the chicken fried steak with sawmill gravy, and the hot chicken was terrific. They had real smoked pulled pork which was delicious. I also found a new first-time favorite with the hot breaded okra! They did offer liver and gizzards which our friend seemed to enjoy very much. There was hominy, bean dishes, and fried catfish with either corn meal or batter dipped breading. They really cover all the Southern-style bases, and you definitely felt like you had all the choices available that you could possibly want. The Saturday lunch buffet bill totaled $21 for the two of us, which I thought was a great deal. The Friday and Saturday dinner buffets are $12.99 which I would definitely pay for this quality of food. This is a Southern-style buffet that will easily become one of your go-to favorites. Before I came to this restaurant the first time. I read all the reviews and saw the overall rating of 3.almost convinced me to go somewhere else. However, we were hungry and I didn't feel like going all over looking for somewhere else to eat. Well that was three visits ago and every time that we have come the food has been very tasty, hot and satisfying. I waited to write this review since it seems to depend on the time of day that you come. We have come close to closing, in the middle of the shift, it hasn't mattered, same awesome food and friendly great service. Based on the negative reviews, I would either say that a lot changed or they were disgruntled employees or the competition. I would be willing to say that those people are full of something. That comment about the veteran is crap for sure as this place is a shrine to veterans. Is it possible that a table wasn't available for him when he was ready, possibly. The waitresses are rude and don't expect them to revisit the table once the order is taken. When management was informed of the undercooked food a simple sorry was all that was given but the food was not removed. The price for what you get is comparable to others, remember, all you can eat. Check your prices at the other restaurants and look at the portion size. If you want Mcdonald's prices, go to Mcdonalds. As for the environment, it is big, and wide open, but I'm not crammed next to somebody, bumping my chair to move around. My kids are all grown now, but I would have liked the game machines, I could have stayed and talked with friends in stead of having to leave because of them being bored. This has to be the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life! I can't even begin to describe how bad the food is.Dry and bland don't do it justice, biscuits were rock hard,the vegetables were canned and just heated up, and the macaroni and cheese was nothing but overcooked pasta with a can of cheese sauce dumped on it. I am currently trying to wash the taste out of my mouth with Mountain Dew. I should have known when I pulled in at supper time and there was one other car in the parking lot! For a new establishment to not announce that they're open (a banner, etc) is somewhat shocking - my wife and I weren't even sure it was in business yet when we pulled into the parking lot. The place isn't "southern food" at all - rather, someone who can't cook's idea of what southern food is. It was bland as rice paper and covered in obscene amounts of butter and grease. Even the breading was bland. The quality of ingredients they were using was clearly C grade at best - the meat was tasteless and often had gristle. I again need to reiterate how soaked in butter and grease everything was - almost as if they were aware it was terrible and were hoping if they covered it with 20 pounds of butter no one would notice. The mac and cheese wasn't terrible, and neither was the dessert - but that's not exactly high praise considering how bland everything else was. The place seemed to have been decorated by someone who saw a picture of a Cracker Barrel once and tried - poorly - to imitate it. Bare pine walls for miles, then - inexplicably - a cluster of old farming implements. Then more bare walls, then a cutesy sign. It reminds me more of a warehouse than a place you would eat. Really nice place. A lot of room even with a large group. Large buffett. Chicken ham fish enchilada and a lot more options. Very fresh around lunch time. Cook comes out every 5 minutes or so and checks quantity and temps. Large variety of deserts. Most homemade. Ice cream too. Very friendly. About 9 bucks for lunch well worth it. Came here with my folks for Thanksgiving, as mom doesn't really like to cook any more. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The buffet was well-stocked and the offerings were very good. The turkey, pot roast, pulled pork/beef, ham, and all the trimmings were of good old home-cooked quality. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the desserts were fantastic. One could easily go into a carb coma here, LOL. The atmosphere is done up in country style.
