Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had!
    Lindsay F.

If you like perfectly crispy, juicy, hot, flavorful fried chicken, well seasoned collard greens, spicy cornbread, lumpy mashed potatoes and thick gravy, this is the place to be. Was driving through from Minnesota to Orlando and stopped near Shelbyville for the night. The place where my friend and I stayed recommended the Dinner Table and it was definitely a great suggestion for local food. The restaurant is obviously a local go to and staple establishment. The tables are covered in red and white checkered table coverings, the inside a modest and no frills look. The servers are attentive and keep the sweet and unsweetened tea a flowin'. The buffet includes a salad bar, dessert bar and then the goodies mentioned about. They also have fried porkchops, beans, mac n cheese, cheesey penne in tomato sauce, and some other goodies in the lunch buffet. I filled to the brim and 4 hours later still felt satisfied! Next time, I will want to stop by for breakfast, which I bet is equally great!

All you can eat home cooking for $10 ($11 w/tip)! The main dishes on my lunch visit were fried chicken, meatloaf, and chicken fried steak. A good variety of sides plus desserts! Service was fast on the drink refills. My advice is to get there before the lunch rush because it is very busy during lunch. Across from Shell in the old Burger King building that has changed hands a few times. I hope this one stays!

    Pretty good lunch

Visiting Shelbyville and was suggested that I eat at the Dinner Table for lunch. It was a good lunch experience and the service was wonderful!

Did I go to the farm? Nope. I cheated and snagged this from my hotel... and WOW. Creative, creamy,…read moredreamy deliciousness. Like, why did I wait this long? Definitely worth an actual trip to the farm just to see what other flavors you're hiding. Tragically, my little carton is now very empty. RIP. Whisky chocolate chunk -- yes please. While the chocolate chunks were playing a bit of hide-and-seek, the flavor itself was so good I'll let it slide this time. One tiny (loving) side-eye : the ice cream base uses corn syrup. Any chance of a version without it? More and more of us are leaning toward pure sugar these days. Just saying... I'd be first in line.

The ice cream tastes great, has a great texture, and the portions are generous. The sandwiches are made to order and toasted to a wonderful gooeyness. Crispy sourdough bread outside and fresh, flavorful, hot, and gooey on the inside. There are regular items on the menus and some that rotate though. The staff is helpful and wants to satisfy your needs. There's almost always a line that moves quickly. The ice cream and sandwich counters are housed in a comfortable, nicely decorated building that also has table and counter seating. Outside are picnic tables with access to shade and a roofed area. There's a playground for the youngsters and dogs are welcome.

This was my 3rd time at Granny Fishes. I always look forward to eating here when I'm in town…read morevisiting family. But something is changing and not for the better. Don't get me wrong, it's still down home fried catfish. And they have some of the best hush puppies you can find. But the quality of the fish, the declining service, and the uneven cooking is concerning. First off, you will have to wait to be seated. That is a given no matter what time you go. They are simply that popular. I expect that and have no problem with waiting. But don't seat my party and make us wait another 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged by the server. There is clearly not enough staff to handle the tables they have. I'd rather sit out front talking with friends and family than be sitting at a table being ignored. Once our server came and took our food and drink orders (she was really nice but obviously overwhelmed), she came back with all of the beverages but one iced tea. When we flagged her down, she apologized and said she'd be right back with it. She didn't return until our food was served. She apologized again about the missing tea and finally got it. The hush puppies were outstanding as always. But the fried catfish had an off taste. And she forgot one of the side dishes on three of our plates. I'm not sure if that was her fault or the kitchen but that doesn't make it right. My baked potato was not cooked through (yes, I had the baked potato instead of the standard fries, an odd choice I admit). The white beans were tasty but on the verge of mush, nothing like the saucy beans I'd had here previously. And our drinks sat empty for long periods of time before anyone noticed. This place is a hidden gem, out in the middle of nowhere, and people drive quite a distance to come here. It's a shame that the food and service seem to be declining because I always enjoy coming here....until this trip.

The food was excellent, the service was also. The restaurant was full of very satisfied customers.read more
