BLT on sourdough bread
Gena A.

Our waitress Crystal genuinely cares about her job. She was super friendly, and attentive, rolling silverware, pouring tea, and taking orders, She stayed on top of everything. It's a small quaint diner. The food was so good. I got the BLT and it was one of the best BLT on sourdough bread I've ever had in my life. A great little place to eat.

Staff were nice food was average dont get the pay more for soda when u order a burger but anyways was in town with my fiance because he had work there bingo night but I would say clean the place up some and use some seasoning!

This cozy place has occupied the square in Shelbyville since 1945. The menu is fairly simple and this place is basically a Meat & Three, so I opted for the Country Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, and carrots. Overall the meal was solid, the chicken tender and the breading had good flavor, potatoes were just OK, and the carrots were very good. The cornbread is good but would have been much better warm. Service was good and while I did not get any pie, they did look tasty.

All cut up & ready to eat.

First timer, just passing thru. Food & service was excellent. If Pope's was in my hometown in Texas it would be packed every morning at 6am. There's some construction going on above and to the side with scaffolding across the front. Pope's Cafe is OPEN, don't hesitate to walk in and relax. Coffee was pretty good - poured out of a classic Bun SS decanter with 1/2 & 1/2 on the table.. Pepper is fine ground and the biscuits are great. The only thing that could be better is if they forgot the hi-tech waitress iPad and just 'write it down'. Lol Some of us are looking for old school experiences and Popes is 96% there. You should go and let me know what you think!

Food was excellent. Outside is a little rough as it is being remodeled. Inside bright and has lots of antiques to check out which are also available for purchase. Seemed to be only one waitress in the place that was handling to-to orders and normal waitressing duties. Very friendly. Some in my party were hangry and feel it was too slow

I drove an hour to try this historic small cafe in Shelbyville to try their bacon cheeseburger. The atmosphere was quaint and definitely had the small town square feel. I was greeted by a wonderful hostess and she added her own warmth and friendliness you would hope to see in a place like this. The cheeseburger was a tad well done for my liking, but it was large and held its own with all the fixings. Fresh tomatoe, lettuce, pickles, onions and mayonnaise on a soft brioche style bun. There were three choices of fries offered, crinkle, straight cut, and steak fries. They have several homemade pies ready for you to enjoy. I chose the banana cream meringue pie that was said to be the owner's family recipe. It was full of flavor and definitely a solid experience. I would say it's worth the visit. I left satisfied and happy with the meal.

Not as good as it was in the past. But it's nothing personal to the new owners. Haven't had for a while so maybe things have changed.

Good little diner. Much better than giving my money to these crummy fast food joints.

There were out of a few things, but there were a few things that really were delicious. The small bread bites were the star of the show. Followed up closely by the mushroom risotto. I would go back solely for those things. I went with a sharing friend and we felt like we ordered wrong. We got a hamburger thinking bc it was a steak house they would have a good meat selection. It was a frozen patty zero flavor. And while the fries look excellent they were cold and soggy. We waited for a while for the food. We were the only ones there. (Yes it is connected to a bar/ tavern, but there weren't a lot of orders coming in.) The broccoli was as cold and tough as the fries. I only had a few bites of the salmon it was under seasoned as well. The bread and risotto saved the stars here. I would rated it a solid 3.5. Check this restaurant out if you are in the area.

It was 3pm when I arrived and I met Nikki who told me to take my pick of seats as the place was empty. Nikki went over the menu but I knew I wanted a steak and decided on the special...a 20 ounce Cowboy Ribeye with two sides. The Revaira Dinner Salad was very fresh and all of the vegetables were crisp but the raspberry vinaigrette dressing is delicious. I could see the flames from the grill as the chef prepared my steak so I was very excited to see how this one came out. The steak was @1" thick, perfectly medium rare, nice grill marks, beautiful char, and minimally seasoned with salt and pepper. The meat was very tender and the flavor really made this a solid steak needing nothing additional. I really enjoyed the mushroom risotto as the rice was Al dente, carried a light earthy flavor from the mushrooms that were not mushy...this a great side for a steak. Great food and the service I received from Nikki...exceptional! I was very impressed...this may be a small town however this place delivers solid steakhouse flavors! I need to come back and enjoy some of the Italian dishes, from what I saw they look great too! https://www.facebook.com/Revairseafood https://shelbyvilleitalianrestaurant.com/

This was my 3rd time at Granny Fishes. I always look forward to eating here when I'm in town…read morevisiting family. But something is changing and not for the better. Don't get me wrong, it's still down home fried catfish. And they have some of the best hush puppies you can find. But the quality of the fish, the declining service, and the uneven cooking is concerning. First off, you will have to wait to be seated. That is a given no matter what time you go. They are simply that popular. I expect that and have no problem with waiting. But don't seat my party and make us wait another 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged by the server. There is clearly not enough staff to handle the tables they have. I'd rather sit out front talking with friends and family than be sitting at a table being ignored. Once our server came and took our food and drink orders (she was really nice but obviously overwhelmed), she came back with all of the beverages but one iced tea. When we flagged her down, she apologized and said she'd be right back with it. She didn't return until our food was served. She apologized again about the missing tea and finally got it. The hush puppies were outstanding as always. But the fried catfish had an off taste. And she forgot one of the side dishes on three of our plates. I'm not sure if that was her fault or the kitchen but that doesn't make it right. My baked potato was not cooked through (yes, I had the baked potato instead of the standard fries, an odd choice I admit). The white beans were tasty but on the verge of mush, nothing like the saucy beans I'd had here previously. And our drinks sat empty for long periods of time before anyone noticed. This place is a hidden gem, out in the middle of nowhere, and people drive quite a distance to come here. It's a shame that the food and service seem to be declining because I always enjoy coming here....until this trip.

The food was excellent, the service was also. The restaurant was full of very satisfied customers.read more
