we have eaten here many times before. It is a good place to bring our kids to eat. Usually the food is good and we have great service. We stopped in this past Friday night for dinner with our 2 little boys. We declined ordering them meals (they are almost 2 and almost 1) and ordered a kids chocolate milk, my partner ordered the fried chicken and I had the barbecue beef sandwich. I know they don't have to do this, but normally the waitress or waiter brings us an extra roll and piece of the applesauce bread for our boys. Not this time. The coffee we ordered was burnt. I had ordered sweet potato fries. Instead I received a half of a baked sweet potato with no butter or anything for on it. My partners chicken was cold when it was brought out and the potatoes had clearly been microwaved, but not very well as they were ice in the middle. Our kids were fairly well behaved but the server seemed annoyed with them. Cold food and subpar service. While the food is usually decent it is too high of a price for dinner for what we received, and will be taking this out of our normal rotation. read more

Environment similar to Cracker Barrel but it stops there. The food was far better and services equally as good. Tried the stuffed pork chop which was very good. The food portions are large so be sure your hungry when you go. We will return. Prices are reasonable and they have a child menu. Cold beer in 25 oz. steins was a plus. I have had great experience in the past with Machine shed under different management. My family went yesterday and wow, what an experience. We ordered, which was fine. I ordered the chicken pot pie which comes with a basket of breads, cole slaw and cottage cheese. I asked our server if she could bring these out and she said no, they were on the salad bar. So I went to the salad bar and yes, the cole slaw and cottage cheese was there, but not the sweet breads. Well, no big deal so far. I can deal with this. Then the meal came. My husbands sandwich was good, but my chicken pot pie was mostly gravy. Since I had the salad bar, I was fairly full, so it was not a big deal. The server asked how things were and I told her fine, but she may want to check the kitchen because the pot pie was mostly gravy, hardly any chicken, potatoes or veggies. She told me it looked good to her. I said ok. I hadn't asked for my bill to be comped, I was just offering a suggestion. They take my pot pie back and 5 minutes....yes 5 minutes later as we sit waiting for our bill, she comes out with the manager who said they looked through my pot pie and it seemed fine and her manager said, "I've seen it much worse." First of all, a manager should never say, "I've seen it much worse.". Secondly, why are they arguing with me about this, I didn't want anything comped, I just want my check and to leave. I was just offering some constructive comments about my meal. Finally, and this was the last straw, she mentioned that we are regulars and we've never been complainers before. I was stunned. First of all, I am the customer, I was not expecting ANYTHING off my bill. I simply made a comment about the pot pie. The staff at machine shed turned it personal. I will not be going back under this management. I do not fault the server, I fault the management. After the manager walked away, we still waited several minutes for our bill. Machine Shed used to be one of our favorite places to eat. Not anymore. Today was strike 3 and we will not be returning. We walked in around 10:30am and of course it was busy we were told it would be a little bit of a wait, OK no problem. We proceeded to look over the gift shop while their 3 hosts and hostesses ran around like crazy people with no order whatsoever. Then the 4 of us follow the dark haired hostess to be seated and she took us in a big circle around the restaurant!! We ended up in the corner by the windows where they store highchairs even though we wanted near the fireplace but after 25 minutes we weren't going to complain. We get a server after a little bit, I believe her name was Becky and it was literally down hill from there. She didn't have a great knowledge of the breakfast menu and couldn't give us direct answers, she then asked an older women with glasses near us who looked like a deer in headlights at the question. So we struggle thru the order and let me say it was NOT worth the wait. The meat on the buffet was cold. The guy stocking it looked like he couldn't care less. My husband's and brother's order came and it was apparent it sat under the heat lamp.The plates were burning hot to the touch and tasted terrible. When she checked back I asked who was the manager she told me she would have Bob stop over. Well he never came. What kind of management is that? I asked again at the hostess station and the young man said he's really busy right now... NEVER EVER AGAIN. RUDE AND CARELESS EMPLOYEES. The best part of the meal was the coffee. The hostess can plainly see that I am a robustly large woman so why not seat me in front of a roaring fire. I asked for cooler seating accomodations and a pitcher of iced water. I couldn't decide between the fish fry and the Reuben so I asked if I might get a sample of the corned beef. She returned posthaste with 3 warm slices of delicious fatty meat which helped me make my decision. I also ordered a side salad as the very small soup and salad bar was and an additional. $7.99!!!!!! Hubs ordered the beer battered cod AYCE with garlic mashed potatoes and chef's choice veggie. The salad was a small bowl of wilted lettuces, 2 cherry tomatoes and 2 rings of red onion. Not worth $4 so I sent it packing. Hubs got cole slaw, cottage cheese and a plate with assorted bread which he kindly shared. Our food arrived and we enjoyed it all but for the carrots The tasted of earth, very unpleasant I only ate half of my Sammy so I could try this "Famous Apple Dumpling". We didn't enjoy it all. The surrounding crust was not crispy the crust on the bottom was a raw white paste. The ice cream was not cinnamony and in our opinion this dessert was a fail. Well I'm a member of a business group that meets there every Thursday morning. Until now. We have been meeting there for over 8 years, every Thursday. 2 weeks ago we were told by the manager that they were remodeling and told us we could not use there site to meet anymore. Never giving us a option to come back when they were done. Well it turns out that the manager was lying to us. They are not remodeling, he just wants us out. Not giving us any reason why. Last week we met there for the last time, the general manager said he was surprised and had not known that was happening. Then he said he wanted us to stay but he was moving up and the manager that lied to us was being promoted. Well sad to say but we are NOT staying there with him in charge. In town for a basketball tournament, staying in a hotel near this restaurant. We placed our orders and then the waitress brought out a basket full of bread and Applesauce bread. After falling in love with the Applesauce bread my 14 yr old son had a very long hair in his mouth, from the Applesauce bread. Kind of ruined the dining experience for me. We told our waitress, she told the manager who offered us a free dessert or appetizer. My son's Jumbo burger wasn't cooked WELL done like we asked either. Let me begin by saying that I usually have good experiences at this restaurant. The food is good and the service is usually very friendly. We especially like the cooking classes for children provided by the restaurant. That being said, the experience we had tonight took us by surprise. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted and seated in a fairly empty restaurant. The waitress greeted us right away, but when we had a question about the beers at the bar, we were met with a blank stare and a noncommittal answer. We ordered our beverages and received them in a standard amount of time. We ordered and our appetizer and our fixins were delivered rather quickly. We were not provided butter for our bread but that has happened before, no big deal. Our meals soon followed. We asked for butter for our bread, horseradish sauce and au jus for the prime rib. My steak tips were pretty good but my sweet potato fries were cold and limp. My wife's prime rib, though tasty, was overdone and the garlic mashed potatoes were very salty and not very warm. The au jus was extremely salty and had strings of slime at the bottom of the bowl. A nearby table also commented to each other about how salty the au jus was. We would have expressed our displeasure to the server, but she looked very busy and only returned to give us our bill and a long overdue refill. We would have brought this to the manager's attention but after she stopped and helped the table next to ours, I did not see her again. I wish I could say that it ended there, but when one thing goes bad, it usually continues. When I went to pay the bill, I waited in an empty lobby for someone to take my money. When another group of people walked through the door, the hostess finally saw me and moved to assist. I had a coupon, and was informed that she would have to get her manager to take the coupon off of my bill. What seemed like an eternity (actually a minute), the hostess returned and asked how everything was. I gave her a noncommittal "Eh, *pause* it was okay". She did not reply or follow up on that in any way. When I returned to the table my wife informed me we were waiting on boxes for the remainder of our food. 5-10 minutes later we had to ask for boxes again. Overall, I am disappointed as we had started to go there more often. It will be some time before this experience has been removed from our memory and we eat there again. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday at 1pm. Was told there would be a 15 minute wait and found that to be a bit strange considering the back dining area was not being used and there were about 15 of us waiting to be seated. Well, 15 minutes later we were indeed seated so onto the service. The server was very friendly and had our drinks to us in a couple of minutes. We ordered the burnt tips starter and found them to actually not be tips at all. Just ended up being overcooked, dry brisket cut into cubes and drenched in barbeque sauce. Thank God for that sauce or it would've been inedible. Skip them! Now the main course. Ordered the chicken fried steak dinner and got the garlic mashed potatoes and carrots with it. Steak was good. Could've used a little more seasoning, but was still good. Mashed potatoes were really lacking in the garlic. I think they actually just gave me the plain. Carrots were good in the butter and dill seasoning. My wife got the chicken potpie and liked it. Overall, not bad. Nothing to get over excited about. Would I recommend this place? Yes. Good ole fashioned home cooking feel to the place. Would I eat there again? We'll definately give it another shot. read more

Just went to The Machine Shed for lunch. Destiny was our waitress. She was very helpful and attentive. I liked everything about this restaurant. The menu had a great variety on it. I had the Meatloaf sandwich which was soooo delicious. The gray was excellent and meatloaf was perfect with an amazing flavor and consistency. I really like this place. I have been there 3 times so far. For breakfast I got the buffet. I was a little hesitant as many buffets remind me of the old school lunches but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excelent and there were so many choices. Best breakfast buffet yet. For dinner I definately recommend the ribs. The service is top notch (if you can look past the servers checked shirts and overalls). They serve soft drinks in little mason jars and the decor is straight off the farm. It's a cozy down-home atmosphere that reminds me of visits to my farming relatives in the western part of Wisconsin. read more

We arrive and our seated. We wait twenty five minutes to have our order taken. I mentioned it to the host and he said he will send over our waitress. The blond lady started taking our order, gets a glazed look in her eye and starts crying. She runs to the back and tells us we need someone else take our order. I ordered the chicken and it was overcooked or reheated the chicken inside was brown, it was to hard to eat. Went for a quick breakfast before a long drive home. Unfortunately they only had one cinnamon roll left so my hubby let me have it for the special French Toast. Big enough to last for three breakfasts. Love those left-overs! Since we were heading on the road for an 8 hour drive, we thought we would take some fried chicken to eat on the road but they weren't prepped for lunch yet. The manager came by and made special arrangements to make the chicken for us, which was very appreciated. We stopped at a comfort station around Chicago and ate lunch. This last Sunday night March 8th we visited your Appleton Machine Shed for my dads Birthday. We had a large part of 23 that I had call a week in advance to make the reservation so they would be surprised when we showed up. We were seated in a big room all to ourselves which was nice since we had 6 younger kids. We had 2 servers for our table which should have worked great but that was not the case, 1 of them was experience and the other not so much. Due to separate checks by families, the more experienced one only took 6 people and left the remaining 17 to the less experienced one. Now the problems begin: the first 6 people got there drinks and orders taken right away, she also brought out the side dishes and plates, she was very efficient but should have helped her partner but didn't., the other server was coming out with the drinks and dropped them so she had to start over making them, about 15 minutes later she finally got the food orders taken but now the first 6 people got there food, the rest had to wait and ask for the sides and plates. And as you can guess the first people served finished there food before the rest got theres. The server who waited on the 6 people ignored the rest of the table, she could have helped out so we all would have gotten food at the same time, instead she never cleaned the plates and she dropped the checks before the whole table had even eaten Plates were not taken away until we started piling them up so we could have the birthday desserts we had brought, There was a manager there who had helped walk out the first 6 orders but we never saw him again, until we paid,( he never checked to see how our dinner was) and he had to of known what was going on, because I had went up to the host stand looking for either our servers or the manager to see if we were even going to get the rest of our food. When it did come , is was only warm, and 2 of the orders were wrong-not even what they had ordered. We thought about complaining or sending the food back but no one was around and we were sick of waiting. This was suppose to be a fun birthday dinner for my dad but was ruined but your poor staff. My parents chose the Machine Shed because of location and they liked your food, well I'm sure they have changed their minds after Sunday's disaster. as the rest of the party who had never eaten there before and probably won't again! read more

I am sorry but I Can not give this place any stars. The loaded baked potato soup was horrible. I wouldn't even call it soup. It didn't even fall off the spoon when I turned the spoon over. Tasted and looked like out of the box instant potatoes. YUK. Onions were burnt in the French onion soup. The meatloaf dinner was down right disgusting. The potatoes that they stacked on top of the meatloaf was cold. Then the meatloaf was dry and pasty. If I had to guess, they nuked the meatloaf because only the center of it was Luke warm. Then they slapped some room temperature potatoes on top of it. One dinner got left on the table not touched and mine I had to force down maybe half of it. (Couldn't see leaving 40$ worth of food on the table and walking away). When we paid for this slop the guy never even asked how everything was. My husband and I stopped in for supper the other night. It was late afternoon, but definitely the beginning of the dinner menu. Not knowing what to have, and since it was our first time there, the waitress was super helpful and was able to make a menu switch for me since I am on a diet. My husband was very pleased with the family dinner choices of turkey and pork. They each had their own gravy and stuffing. He even had seconds. I had enough in my dinner to eat for lunch the next day. We came back for brunch on Sunday and were also pleased. Although the brunch is a little sparse... the carved beef was tender, and even a little on the medium rare side which many restaurants avoid. The young man sauteed my vegetables for my omelet and actually did a much better job than I ever could. The salad could have used a few more cut up veggies to add, and perhaps a lite dressing. Maybe one more meat selection could spice up the brunch menu. There were 3 different potato choices, pork sausages, and bacon, and a chocolate fountain with sweets to dip. A few more selections and They would have gotten a whole 5 stars. I am planning on taking my son for breakfast in a couple of weeks and look forward to his opinion.
