The Loop is a casual and family friendly restaurant in San Marco that has something for everyone at a reasonable price point. You order at the counter, get a buzzer, grab your drink (Coke products, tea and water) and find your seat. Typically, by the time you sit down, your buzzer is going off. The menu features, appetizers (pub-grub), salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, milkshakes and desserts. Everything is elevated from what you'd get at a chain. Yesterday, I tried the Cajun chicken sandwich. Nice flavor, slightly crispy, nice honey mustard sauce as well. The fries are really thick and good, the onion rings were really a pleasant surprise. It's a self service restaurant where all orders and payment are done by the counter and the place has a lot of sitting capacity and few outdoor seats. We ordered half and half of Artichoke & Bacon and Fennel Sausage & Goat Cheese with additional beef plus their Great American Cheeseburger. The latter was just ok, while the pizza served to us seems to be wrong as there's no trace of mushroom, tomato, and the additional beef toppings. They were able to correct it by serving just the Fennel Sausage & Goat Cheese. We also paired it with drinks that doubled as dessert, got the Strawberry Milkshake with cherry on top which also comes with a quarter full tall glass of its refill. While it was a self service restaurant, the crews were attentive to check what each table needs and there were 3 occasions when they were looking for who ordered an unclaimed item. I wanted to wait to write this review but my experience today made me have to... Have been going here for years and yet, their quality of service in the kitchen and behind the counter has gone down... Hiring young people and or people that really don't care and are doing minimum besides the table busters (who do their job)... It seems during the week the staff are not as efficient or reliable as the weekend ones as the weekend ones have people who are more older and or experienced! I went in for me and my son to get a burger and chicken tenders with a shake... I took over 30mintues of waiting for the food, so I had to ask to take it togo. If they did not make it literally in the next 10 min from then, I was going to ask for my money back! Other people were waiting and I could tell. A group of 4 teenagers where two kids got their food 15min before others and none of them got pizza or other things which usually take longer at the loop. Or couple waiting on their phones where they could see a whole episode of a tv show waiting for their food. The place was not even as full as the weekends... I told the front why I wanted it to go and that it was taking a long time. I got a quick "ya I know I'm sorry" from the front girl but that was it. They had like 2-3 people in the kitchen working on togo orders not focusing on who is actually in the restaurant. These people were laughing and taking it easy like they were high or just too comfortable. There is a reason this is a local place and we expect a local vibe for our kids and not want to go to McDonald's or fast food with chemicals but this was ridiculous. Got my food togo after waiting 40minutes total only to open it to have 2 chicken tenders and barely any fries in each togo meal... THIS PLACE HAS TO GET BETTER TRAINED STAFF OR MANAGEMENT. Quality of food is still ok which is why today got 2 stars but ya, it's has gone downhill and this is the 6 time this year, they have taken forever and we have had to wait as if we were at a fancy restaurant... My son likes big juicy burgers, and that's one of the things they're known for. I like the choice of sides without an up charge! The warm blue cheese chips are a nice change from fries. I haven't been to this location for a few years, and it appears they remodeled. The interior has a sleek, minimalist look to it. We sat outside. It's been a Long time since I'd been here as I moved. It used to be Chicago style and was awesome. They have radically changed their style, but not their quality and service. Still a great pizza. Mine had pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage and goat cheese. I don't eat a lot of salt, so maybe it was me. But the goat cheese seemed a little salty. Went to a buddies house not too long ago and they served up some pizza from here. It was amazing so I decided to go back for more. All the ingredients were fresh, the crust was light and airy the way I love it and the o rings were fried to perfection. The staff are nice and welcoming also. If I were to change anything, it would probably be the fact that the simple pizzas are more expensive because they are considered build your own. A regular pepperoni pizza is $12.49 because it's a build your own then add pep, when other pizzas are $10.99. That's a small thing but it adds up when you keep going back :). I look forward to going back and trying other things on the menu. The ambiance of the place is regular. It's a regular order and eat joint. I like the tomato soup and walnut salad. My niece likes the chicken tenders, fries, and shakes. My sister enjoys a burger. We visit, we eat, and we are satisfied. That's why I like it. Sometimes you just wanna go and grab some delicious comfort food. I know this location can get very busy and maybe they could have been more attentive when getting the food out or remembering to give my niece her shake... but... I'm gonna chalk that up to .. "that's life". So this review has start with what I perceive to be the highlight of my visit and that was Lauren. Such a beautiful smile she greeted me with in an upbeat tone and asked how I was this evening. I have to be honest I truly believed in the sincerity of her question. Customer service is the ultimate Experience that can make or break a visit. The loop truly needs to commend Lauren and utilize his example of how to greet the customer and make the customer feel valued. She was also very good with taking my order to make sure that it was correct repeating back to me what it was and asking open ended questions. Now for the discussion on the Portabella melt. The grilled onions I will start with added such flavor. The melted cheese perfect not over done in the Portabella was excellent In the garlic mayo truly add it to the experience.I decided to behave myself and do the broccoli rather than the french fries I love their french fries extra crispy. The Loop is one of those Jax staples that I typically overlook. Not for a specific reason, just because there are so many unique burger and pizza joints in the 904. Once we placed our order, we waited no more than 10 minutes, grabbed our food and hit the road. The burger represents everything about a classic American Cheeseburger. Lettuce, tomato, onions, sesame seed bun, and a juicy, crisp burger patty. Seriously juicy! My only critique? It's more on the unseasoned side, as compared to a more adventurous burger. Fries are good, they're thick cut and remind me of Too-Jays. Props to their vegetarian option, which I ended up having a few bites of the following day and it was freakin' delicious! I ain't kidding, this gargantuan concoction was the real deal. Overall, the restaurant is clean and well-kept, as it recently received an overhaul. My husband had been here before and liked their burger. I was skeptical because it looked a little expensive, and, unfortunately, the food was not worth the money. I asked for a regular make-your-own pizza (I only like cheese on my pizza), but they charged us for a Pinsa pizza, which is more expensive and very thin crust. While trekking across J'ville it seems theres always a Loop nearby. I was in the area and luckily snagged a parking spot so I parked and took a stroll. The next thing I know, Bam! They give you a buzzer and your drink cup and then you venture out and find your own table. Thankfully I beat the lunch crowd by minutes because the place filled up and the line was out to the front door quickly. About 10-12 mins and my buzzer went off. I grabbed my grub and got her back to the table for a quick observation and photo opp before digging in. It was delicious! I ditched 1/2 of the bread and devoured the rest of it. They almost forgot the milkshake, which was in a cooler. Got home less than 3 min away.... There were 6 French fries. Obviously old, soggy and almost cold. Burger bun was a soaked pile of mush. Living in the San Marco area, The Loop is, and has been, one of our "go-tos" for years. A great option to stop in or take out on a busy school or work night. With three teenagers and two adults ordering, I can say with 80% certainty that we have ordered and tried most of their menu! Of course, we all have our favorites: kids tend to be big fans of the burgers, fries and pizzas. Hubby and I tend to be more on the salad side of things, with the Greek Salad and Chicken Caesar leading the way. Their Caesar dressing is always on point, just enough anchovy to make it interesting, but not so much that you get an overly-fishy taste. If you are a soup fan, let us take a moment to let you know that the Tomato Bisque you'll find here is one of the best in town, with a rich, creamy consistency that never fails. And yes, we have been known to request extra croutons on the top... And of course, what would this review be if we didn't mention their hand-dipped shakes? These we tend to get only when we dine in, because there is something about scooping out a big heap of Oreo and chocolate shake from that big metal container... oh yeah! We have tried all flavors, though, and all are exceptional. Here's the bottom line: while The Loop may not going to surprise you with their culinary experimentation, what they WILL do is delight you with their excellent execution of good, flavorful, fresh food. I think this is my second Yelp review about this location. I love the loop. But this location is terrible. Foods mediocre and the service is terrible. My cashier tonight was sweet. I came close to closing (which I thought was at 10 according to maps but it's at 9) and the ovens and fryer were down but that's okay, I wanted pizza. I ordered my cheese pizza with some toppings, one including chicken. My pizza came out 25 minutes later with literally 2 tiny pieces of chicken on it. If I'm paying $1 a topping it better be enough I feel like. So I said something and all the manager had to say to me was "if you want more you can pay 1.59 since the chicken is weighed" Maybe once there's new management I'll return. read more
