I had driven past their street sign advertising a Gyro and Fries for $9.99 for over a month and teen and I happened to be out in this are and we decided to give it a shot. I love a good gyro. It's a order at the counter type of spot. Even though a bell rings when you walk in it took several minutes before we saw anyone come to the counter. Their menu has a large variety of items from pizza, gyros, seafood, cheesesteaks and more. I must say the photos on the menu wall do not look the most appetizing, mostly because they're all faded and discolored. We both ordered the gyro special. It took a bit to get our order but it came out piping hot and that's how it should be. Fries were typical fries. Gyro was good. Not the best I've had but it had good flavor. I think it needed a little more spice to the meat and it would have helped. My biggest complaint is the meat was very greasy. I took a few napkins and blotted as much as I could off of it prior to eating. It helped a bit. I wasn't that pleased with the Tzazki sauce. I found it very bland and not tangy at all which I've come to expect. I don't think it added anything to the gyro. We saw several people come in to pick up to go orders. It looks like they do a lot of take out. Mostly appeared to be pizza so maybe we'll try that at another time. read more

I've driven past here 100 times meaning to stop But today was the day. the guy at the window was very friendly, I ordered my gyro and fries and waited maybe seven or eight minutes. The fries were hot crisp and delicious and my Gyro was tasty. I'm glad i didn't get to go as I think this is a meal best eaten in - Had I gotten this delivered or taken my order home the fries would not have been hot and tasty so I definitely recommend eating it while it's hot. Usually these hole in the wall pizza places are a cut above the rest. This place was barely a cut above Chef Boyardee. The toppings tasted canned and for $2/topping, they sure do skimp. We have ordered from Bassil's 3 times and have not been disappointed yet. So far we have tried their antipasto salad, calzone, wings, fried shrimp and pizza. Food is always hot and fresh whether it's being picked up or delivered, and the staff is very friendly. We found this gem on DoorDash a few months ago and just cannot stay away! Bassil's is a favorite at our house now. We have tried the chicken Alfredo, white pizza, Stromboli, wings and fries, cheesecake, chocolate cake, mozzarella sticks, fried ravioli, and garlic knots and ITS ALL SO GOOD. The chicken Alfredo is more like a white baked ziti with ziti noodles and not tossed in Alfredo, but still very good. So I tried this place because it had good reviews and for the most part I agree. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza with an order of garlic knots. The pizza had a good flavor but was overly greasy. The garlic knots lacked much flavor and mostly just tasted like plain bread. I would give Bassils a 4 star but the lack of flavor on the garlic knots and the abundance of grease on the pizza make me keep it at 3 star. read more

Bassil's has an extensive menu offering things such as pizza, calzones, wings, gyros, sandwiches, chicken fingers, fried gizzards, etc. On this visit we tried the Pepperoni Pizza, Chicken Fingers, Cuban Sandwich and Gyro. The pizza was okay. Not as good as Renna's but better than the chain pizza places. The chicken fingers are thinly cut so they look like actual chicken fingers and were just okay. The Cuban sandwich was a hit. If there was any criticism, it could have used a little more mustard. The Gyro was not as flavorful as I had hoped. My favorites in Jacksonville are Karam's and Choban Grill. Bassil's unfortunately does not compare to either. The restaurant probably caters more to takeout/delivery so the restaurant is tiny. It seats around 6 tables of 4 and a few 2-tops. Overall, I wasn't overly impressed with the restaurant but I'd be willing to give it another shot to try the wings and maybe the gizzards. read more

My husband, being from Brooklyn, is somewhat of a pizza critic (the closer it tastes like a pizza from NY, the better it is) so when his friend told him about Bassil's he had to try it. We ordered an XL cheese pizza last night & gyro (I love gyros). Upon opening the box, my first thought was "Looks delicious". So I took my gyro (with feta cheese... thought it was automatic but I was told you have to ask for it) w/ fries (eh... were too soft- I like crunchiness with my fries) and a slice. Wow... that first bite of the pizza was awesome. There was a sweetness & saltiness (who doesn't love the sweet & salty thing?) that I loved. The sauce on it was perfect. My only complaint with the pizza would be that it was too soft (yes- I like crunchiness with my pizza too). Besides that, one of the best slices I've had in Jacksonville. Now the gyro... the best gyro I've ever eaten was from some restaurant in Maryland (sorry, I wish I could give credit to the place but I can't remember it right now). I was hoping that this gyro was as good if not better. Unfortunately, I have to say it wasn't. There just wasn't enough flavor. Had it not been for the feta cheese, it would've been a bust. Hopefully next time it's better... so it's good enough to try a few times but by the 3rd time if it doesn't get better, I'll stick with a couple cheese slices. read more

I turned into the wrong parking lot not too long ago and saw this place. I decided to get take out with my son. They have an interesting menu for a small restaurant from pizza, seafood, and burgers. I'm sure I'm missing some items. The food is great and I love the oysters. I've had one bad experience with scallops being raw, but I didn't let that hinder me from returning. I wanted classic spaghetti and boyfriend wanted BBQ chicken pizza with no onions. I went inside to make the order and noticed that it doesn't look like the best of places but was clean in the eating area and clean when I peeked behind the counter which was a plus. Food cane out after about 20 minutes and our food was great! Once I got home the food was still steaming hot as they uses a foil plate for my spaghetti .
