My family used to go to this place all the time when my husband (now ex-husband) was on a work trip (shipyard) or when visiting family in CT. Nothing could beat the vat of pasta and sauce that accompanied a dinner. My favorite, the chicken marsala, always tasted awesome and the portions were huge. The steaks were a family favorite, especially Steak Diane. The restaurant pulsed with a happy energy. I went here recently and took my son to lunch (he goes to Quinnipiac) and found the lunch experience to be pretty disappointing when compared to the dinner experience. Perhaps it was just nostalgia, looking back on the days when we dined there almost once per week as a family. Perhaps I was tired from the travel. There is a different vibe at lunch time. We discovered this hidden gem during our trip to the outlets. Driving around looking for a place to have lunch in the middle of February, everything is pretty much deserted, empty parking lots everywhere. Suddenly, an unassuming log building with the full parking lot! How could we resist but to check it out and boy are we glad we did. Onion soup for starters, I had tuna salad sandwich on white toast and my son had cheeseburger. French onion soup was one of the best I ever had anywhere, both in quality and quantity. Tuna sandwich was perfect to my taste and the burger was the real deal made to-order from freshly ground beef (I can tell!) Everything came with generous amount of fries and pickles. Service was fast and friendly. The place was full (2:30PM) but was well staffed and the owner came out and helped to bus the tables and fetch drinks when it got super busy. The atmosphere was a small town family everybody knows you by name style. It was like transporting back in time as far as service and prices. Big open room with a fireplace and a separate bar with more sitting. Some people were ordering entrees and the plates looked like one could feed the whole table, people were coming away with gigantic leftover containers. I've been to The Log Cabin before and had great experiences, but not tonight. The service was decent and the wait wasn't long, but the food quality was very poor. The Bruschetta is still incredible, but our meals were very disappointing and bland. My husband got the Blue Cheese Steak and I got the Chicken Florentine - neither of which were all that enjoyable. Yes, the portions are huge, but if I'm going out to dinner, it's about quality over quantity. Our bill was $100 with tip included and we left feeling very underwhelmed and disappointed. We got a gift card so decided to try this place out. We got there around 5:30/6 on a Saturday and it was jamming. 40 min wait. We were greeted by a young girl, seemed nice enough. She was clearly very busy but it wouldn't hurt for her to have smiled. 1st impressions are everything. Other waiting patrons were growing impatient and called the young girl "rude" for her short answer on when their table would be ready... Her reply was "your table will be ready when a party of 4 leaves". It didn't really answer their question and was snappy so I didn't blame them for calling her rude. We sat down (45 min wait) and after maybe 15 min, out waitress came over. She seemed very nice but we had VERY little interaction with her. Too busy to chat? Ok moving on. We ordered a soda and a signature martini. Nothing amazing. I'd skip it. No biggie. The best part of the meal came with the fresh bread and yummy salad! If I ever revisit this place- I'd just order that. Our huge bowl of pasta eventually arrived. It was just ok. We ordered 2 surf and turfs. They weren't cheap and were absolutely NOT Worth the price tag. The reviews are true. LOTS of food, zero flavor. I get that maybe they aren't a steak house but the quality of the steak was cheap (yes there is such a thing) and there was not a stitch of seasoning on it. Every afternoon at about 5:30 the same thing happens. A fleet of full-sized, rear-wheel-drive cars pulls up ever-so-slowly and discharges a crowd of zombies. At least they walk like zombies. They mumble like zombies. But unlike zombies, they're all morbidly obese. They gather at tables of four, six, eight and more. Waitresses, each one with the patience of a Saint, circulate among the tables. One table of six, when asked if they were ready to order, replied "yes." When the server opened her pad, looked at a diner and asked her "what would you like?" the diner responded "aww, I don't know what I want." This was repeated until the fourth person asked said "I'll have lasagna." A discussion ensued: "is that with the big, fat noodles?" "I thought we were all having spaghetti and meatballs." "No, not Flossie, she's gonna be a trouble maker and change her mind." "Is there a Senior menu?" When the waitress finally offered to give them a little more time, they all could agree on something. They demanded she stay right there. The food here is on the low end of the red-sauce Italian schtick. But boy oh boy there's a lot of it. Salad in a bowl the size of a coffee table. Pasta bowls that, as God is my witness, are as big as chamber pots. Prime rib that looks, in size, more like part of a prehistoric animal. And it's all very, very reasonably priced. Drinks are reasonable but nothing to write home about. They've got good coffee. Don't bother with the desserts. And as the evening turns into night-time, the denizens of the Log Cabin retreat to their cars bearing the spoils of the evening. Dozens of white styrofoam take-out boxes, wrapped together with cling film, burden the arms of every individual who exits the restaurant. Where do they go, the Log Cabin dinner crowd? If you remember only one thing from this review, remember this: if you're going to the Log Cabin, come hungry...very hungry. When you first walk into the restaurant, you'll feel at home in the rustic decor and with the friendly service. We came in rather late after an afternoon of shopping at the outlet mall in Clinton, so there weren't many other patrons there, but there seems like there would be alot of seating even on a busy night. On your way in, be sure to check out the specials board. While there were many enticing sounding options on the menu, our group ended up with three specials out of the four of us. I had the Pork Ossobuco, and the wife had the Shrimp and Ravioli. Every entree is accompanied by a small salad, and I have to recommend the vinagrette, which I believe is made in house (add some gorganzola, too!). Fresh bread and butter was brought out soon thereafter. Next comes a gigantic bowl of Ziti in a basic Marinara. Our group of four were barely able to finish a third of it. Were were almost full before we even got our main course, which is a shame because the food was so good. The pork ossobuco was so tender and perfectly cooked, and the red wine reduction sauce was the perfect balance of smoothness, sweetness and creaminess to compliment it. The mashed potatoes were just ok in a supporting role, but the pork was so great, it doesn't really matter. The shrimp and ravioli was another extremely generous portion of giant cheese raviolies and some of the largest shrimp I've ever seen. My wife enjoyed the pasta, but felt the shrimp could have been a bit more flavorful. Overall, though, the place is highly recommended if you are in the area. The decor, the service, the value and the selection are well worth it. There are many things on the menu I will be coming back to try, too, with a variety of chicken, beef, veal and seafood dishes. I have relatives with a boat up in Noank so driving from Stamford this is the perfect dinner stop on the way to and from. Splurge the extra $1-2 and get gorganzola on your salad. Wow! My BF has been telling me about this place for two years now and he took me here for dinner this weekend. I was so excited! So the log cabin is beautiful, although the dining room was much smaller then I had anticipated it being inside. The bar area was almost as big as the dining room! Inside was cozy and homey. I'd like to think I'm getting smarter in my old age, but revisiting this place for the nth time proves otherwise. Took the kids Friday nite and the whole fish thing...simple...get the fried shrimp for them and we ordered this seafood over pasta knowing it'd be enough for 10. The good: the 50 shrimp(as they call it) was actually pretty good. Not greasy, light coating and my girls loved it. The ok: pasta before the meal is always decent...light tom sauce. The bad: the zuppa-Di-awful...sure there was 5lbs of it, but every shrimp was so overcooked, on first bite it fell apart like a saltine and inedible. The mussels were plentiful and disgusting and every scallop was so overcooked they were shredded. We would've sent back the $28 entree, but we never saw our waitress again. I thought I had been there on the last trip but as it turns out I hadn't. So we get there and it was quite a nice experience. Portions were extremely large and I made the mistake of ordering the Fishermans Platter which could have fed 3 people for sure. I saw the reviews and drove over cause we were at the outlets. When I pulled in I looked threw the restaurant and saw how it's a smaller dining room and there were a ton of people in there. You should try it once at least if you live in the CT area. Here's how it works: 1. You order drinks. Ice water arrives in a carafe. Fresh baked Italian Bread arrives too. 2. You order your meal which comes with a salad. The Gorgonzola/ Balsamic Vinaigrette combination is great. The lettuce and vegetables are crisp and fresh. 3. You get a large bowl of pasta smothered in their homemade and delectable tomato sauce. The sauce is great because it's not acidic, not too sweet, and tastes super fresh. 4. Finally, you get your meal, which are in substantial portions. Again, everything is cooked from scratch and enough to cover multiple meals. Most everyone brings home leftovers, which are sealed in styrofoam containers covered in saran wrap. My favorite meal is the Eggplant Parmigiana. The tomato sauce is the best I've ever had from an Italian Restaurant. There are also a lot of seafood options that take advantage of the fresh seafood industry from the coast of CT. 5. You have the option for dessert, which is good, but most likely you're stuffed, so you'll probably pass on the option. Business casual is the typical attire of customers. We go to Clinton fairly often (outlet shopping problem cough cough) and we've driven past this many times but hadn't stopped in. Looks like a legit log cabin on the outside so ya can't miss it. We were seated pretty swiftly. There's a nice big fireplace in there - I bet the ambiance is great in the winter but the table was sticky, glasses were foggy and silverware was a little on the dingy side- I was expecting it to be a little nicer. We arrived there at the end of the lunch menu so they gave us both the lunch and dinner menu to look at. I got the stuffed sole and stuffed shrimp combo. It came with bread and a salad. I had the Gorgonzola vinaigrette but was pretty disappointed- it was much blander than I would have imagined. The food took an average amount of time to come out. I enjoyed my meal- the stuffing was pretty good and everything was slathered in butter so it got a little heavy toward the end. My husband had the pot roast special and he was pretty positive that the potatoes tasted like they were instant but he gave the pot roast a this up. I was not impressed by my experience at this restaurant. I mean, the place looks nice and the service was decent, but that's where the positives end. Before the meal, my family and I were served 3 appetizers, which is ridiculous because one should be enough. I'd be fine with a salad, but a plate of cheesey garlic bread and 3 giant bowls of pasta? That is way too much food before the main course. It wasn't worth the wait anyway because the Cheese Ravioli I ordered wasn't very good. Apart from the sausages, it was a rather bland dish with the meatballs being underwhelmingly dull and the ravioli being a major let down. This restaurant is not normal and everything is bigger -- like Texas. The portions are very BIG -- HUGE. I feel like you didn't understand what I'm saying. Order one entree for every two people and it'll still be too much food. If you add an appetizer (twice the size of normal restaurant apps) most entrees can then feed three of you. If you get an entree that isn't pasta, it comes with a giant bowl of pasta anyway that would feed most families of four for a few days. Most entrees are family-sized, but no one tells you this because they want to laugh when you fill up on bread, salad, and the super-size appetizers, and then more food than several people can eat is delivered to one person. Two people can order an appetizer and salads, and be full. Three or four, get one app and one entree to split. Five or more will require some math, but I believe in you. We had dinner last evening at the Log Cabin. We were surprised to see that there was a 30 minute wait as that is what you see during the summer when the beaches are a buzzin! Once seated we were quickly greeted and offered bread with butter. The bread was crispy on the outside and piping hot and soft on the inside....YUM! I ordered the Pork Chop dinner to split with my mom. The dinner is HUGE with 3 large chops. Our friends split the baked scallop dinner which was absolutely enough for the two of them. The salad starter was fresh and crisp and the housemade garlic dressing was delicious. Of course it would not have been dinner at the Log Cabin without the bowl of pasta for the table to share. The sauce is excellent and the pasta was just al dente which was perfect. I will sometimes pick up sauce for my son-in-law who lives in California and bring it with me when I fly to the west coast. Admittedly, i'm a huge fan of seafood, so when a friend of mine told me about The Log Cabin and the humongous portions, needless to say, I made it my #1 priority to visit this place. First, the penne dish with the red sauce was served in an extremely large bowl. Honestly, at least 4 people can share this dish. The pasta was cooked just right while the red sauce was absolutely outstanding with a touch of parmesan cheese. Now here comes my favorite part of my meal, I ordered the fried seafood combination ( shrimp, calamari, clam strips and french fries ). I'm having tears of joy as I reminisce on that beautiful and abundant seafood platter coming to our table!!!! It was pure bliss devouring as much as I can of this delicious seafood!!!! It's impossible to finish this meal, and I was only happy to request the remaining portion be placed in a take out container. I don't usually give 5 stars, but I have no choice!!!! If you want a rustic atmosphere, a good value, and enormous portions of food done right, then come here. The meals started off with bread, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. It melted in your mouth. A top quality salad, then an enormous bowl of pasta. Again, cooked just how I like it. My wife ordered a lobster dish that was outstanding and I ordered the fried combination, which was a heaping platter of fried shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams, and fish. It easily could have fed 2 people. Everything we ate was spot on excellent, and we left with enough leftovers for lunch the next two days. Not bad for a $55 tab. My husband and I have been going to the Log Cabin for our anniversary for quite a few years but usually do the lunch hour. No more lunch menu which used to be a smaller version of the dinner menu with lunch type items as well and of course, lower prices. That was disappointing. Prices were high and even charged for a second cup of coffee which I thought, considering the amount they charge for a meal was really cheap on their part. Their sauce is as good as ever and the food was good, but at those prices it should be. Our waitress was friendly but the hostess was a bit snippy upon entering. Large, comfortable, open dining room; surprisingly pleasant noise level even though it was full. Attentive and very nice servers. The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was obscenely delicious! It was tender, hot, and had just the right amount of cheese and other toppings. However, it was enormous - an entire loaf of fresh Italian bread was used to create this meltingly rich and delectable sandwich. The fries were tasty; properly cooked and salted. The price is unbelievably low once you see how much delicious food is presented. This isn't a place for light appetites as I only ate 1/2 of my sandwich and that was because I stuffed myself. I was really impressed with this restaurant, the service was excellent the food portions were huge and tasty, I have no complaints at all.

First off they're in a location that is absolutely beautiful you'll definitely see some nice scenery on the way there, and they give you huge portions I thought people were exaggerating, but their entrees are huge and delicious. read more
