I took the wife to The Local Restaurant for our date night dinner. This was our first time here. Surprisingly, parking was somewhat limited for a surburban location. Fortunately, they offer valet parking service. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the hostess and immediately taken to our table. No sooner, our server came and gave us a run down of the night's specials as well as some of the menu items. The staff brought out the free corn bread. I loved it, thought it was the best ever. Wife thought it was too sweet. We ordered the French Dip Bao Buns for appetizer. It consisted of shredded steak in a pita covered with a horseradish sauce. It had good flavor. Didn't need the au jus. For the entree, I had the Steak Frites. The steak being a prime rib cut was tender and juicy with a nice sear on the outside. We both enjoyed the generous portion of tasty truffle parmesan frites that came with the steak. My wife had the Duck Confit with Crab Fried Rice. It came with 2 giant duck legs. The duck meat was tender but the miso glaze was a little too salty for our pallets. The crab fried rice lacked flavor. Crab meat tasted fresh and not fishy tasting. I think I enjoyed the meal more than the wife. We both agreed that the portion sizes were very generous. You definitely will not leave here hungry. I came here for dinner with one of my friends. We sat at a high top table in the bar area. They offer complimentary corn bread for the table, but only give one piece per person and it's an additional charge if you want more. For drinks I got the Hey, Darlin! which was on the sweeter side, but absolutely delicious. My friend got the Step Brother cocktail, but wasn't a huge fan of it. We ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls to start with which were good, but I wish there would have been more cheese in them. For meals I ordered the Beef Stroganoff without mushrooms and it was a good portion size and really flavorful and tasty. My friend got the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast and she enjoyed her meal as well. Overall it was a good experience, though it was a little pricier than we had originally expected, but would be a good place for a date night. My husband and I went for his birthday and the food was amazing! The cornbread and butter combo was to die for. The drinks were very yummy and beautiful. The staff was friendly and our waitress gave us many recommendations on things to try since this was our first time there! The atmosphere is very nice and a bit fancier, but not a bad thing! Okay, so my husband and I visited The Local a couple weeks ago, but it was important to me that I made the review even if it's been a bit. I don't remember all of the menu names, forgive me if they're missing or incorrect. I'd like to start by addressing the ambience of the restaurant. When you walk in, it's smaller than you would expect, but not in a bad way. They had lots of outdoor seating, which I didn't explore, so I'm not sure how large the restaurant was in total. Promptly after we were seated, a very friendly server introduced herself asked for a drink orders, and gave us the rundown of the featured dishes of the evening. The server asked us if we had been here before, to which we said no, and she was very passionate to let us know that this would be a great experience and that we could not pick wrong from the menu. I was convinced by the servers passion, professionalism, friendliness. It's not often you see a server passionate about what they're doing and care to make the experience of the guest truly something to remember. She brought us complementary cornbread that was housemaid by the restaurant. This cornbread was not traditional but it was exceeded my expectations. It seemed sweeter than normal cornbread, but the jalapeño butter was the perfect thing. It was the perfect combination. I was so happy to have this cornbread! Offering something complimentary always goes far with guests. I ordered a cream of crab/Maryland crab soup and let me tell you -- it was amazing! Something I really loved about the soup is the sherry that I could taste in the soup. Someone in the kitchen knew what they were doing. The one thing I will say about the soup is that it was not very hot, which I always want my soup to be! The sandwich I ordered, honestly was good, but next time I will order some thing else. I appreciated that the bun was hot and toasted when my order arrived and I think the flavor combination made sense -- but I was just a bit underwhelmed with the dish as a whole. That might be my personal preference though however because this sandwich has a top rating on their menu. The creamed corn I ordered as a side with my sandwich was absolutely phenomenal. The creamed corn also had Sherry as an ingredient and let me tell you, it was a game changer. You should definitely try this when you visit the local. You won't wanna miss that experience. Because I wasn't SUPER thrilled with my sandwich, I became super enthralled by my husband steak. Haha, so something to know about my husband is that he cooks an amazing steak. We don't ever order steaks out because he always can make a steak better. That wasn't the case with our experience at the Local. The steak was excellently prepared, with lovely marbling, delicious flavors the perfect temperature and honestly I just wanted more of it (but my husband was done with me asking for more ). The s'mores bread pudding was super sweet, I think next time I will order the crème brûlée. But that might've been because I was super full from the decadent dishes that I've already indulged in thus far. The s'mores bread pudding is DEFINITELY enough to share between two people. We ordered a cup of coffee to go with our dessert (it was Zekes) and the coffee paired excellently with our dessert. It was piping hot (important) in a nice big white mug with some cold cream on the side. It was just a perfect pairing to finish off an already excellent experience. We've been hearing so many wonderful things about The Local that we were so excited to try it out! Every single thing about it surpassed our expectations. We enjoyed delicious cocktails, a small (extremely large) charcuterie board, shrimp & grits, scallops, and the flourless chocolate torte. Every single thing we ordered was full of flavor and high quality ingredients. Our server, Mariah, was phenomenal - friendly and very attentive. The ambiance was so lovely; I was nervous that the live music would be too loud , but it was the perfect volume and so lovely - Sam O'Hare. We'll be telling all our friends about this place. The cucumber crush was delicious, but I didn't care for the Jalapeño Business which was surprising as it's basically a pineapple jalapeño margarita. Food overall was tasteful. The scallop entree was the best choice of the night - the red pepper hash was amazing and the scallops were cooked perfectly. We were seated without delay. Our waiter Mike, set us up with cool water on a hot day and discussed cocktails. We decided on Rye Manhattans that were mixed to perfection. Next, we decided on Cream of Crab soup and Shrimp Tortilla soup. We also ordered Long Stem Artichoke. Food All food was well prepared and tasty. Entrees consisted of Short Ribbed Grilled Cheese, Butter Milk Chicken Sando with a fabulous onion rosemary hot sauce. Note: I can eat this hot sauce on any pork, chicken or beef entree. Ambiance We loved the small confines of the dining room. For a personal reunion, it really was a nice venue. I was looking forward to lunch at The Local today with a friend. It was not very crowded and we got a table in the bar area with no trouble. We both started with soup. She had the cream of crab and I had the chef's chowder. It came out nice and hot which I appreciated in a cute small crock. The soup was flavorful, though I did not taste jalapeño at all. We decided to share a sandwich since we wanted soup and knew it would be too much. We decided to share the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich since it's award winning and people talk about it all the time. The presentation was nice, a very large chicken breast with slaw and a branded bun with a side of fries. Unfortunately, it was soggy and really didn't deliver the deliciousness that I was hoping for. This was put our third visit to The Local. We had dinner and cocktails on the patio. We sat at the patio bar and our server Carol couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We started with the Cucumber Crush which is excellent. We had some cornbread with jalapeño whipped butter - to die for! We ordered the tuna appetizer which was perfect. The locally sourced angus beef tenderloin was melt in your mouth good, cooked to perfection.We finished off with the flourless chocolate cake.
