My wife made reservations on Wednesday for the day before Easter Sunday. Earliest we could get was 8:30pm. Showed up a few minutes early and we were seated right away. Right in the middle of everyone, in a table the size of a preschoolers desk. My wife quickly asked to move. They moved us to the same size table just closer to the wall which was fine.*NO ONE LIKES BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYONE ELSE'S CONVERSATION OR COMMUNITY SEATING. Once seated we were given one menu which I thought was odd. After a few minutes of confusion saw the qr code for the menu. Good luck to anyone over 50 trying to figure that out. Was offered water and sparkling water which I thought was free until I got the bill( $6.00 for some peligrino.) Ordered tuna tostada as an app. It was good. Basically ahi tuna with yum-yum sauce. They brought some corn bread as we waited for Entrees which was highlight of the night. Dinner for the wife was beef stroganoff. 3 pieces of beef and 100 mushrooms with far from al-dente noodles. Sorry but my Mom's is waaaay better. I had the pork chop with risotto. For a $34.00 pork chop it better be cooked to perfection with a side of veggies to give it color. Just because it has a bone doesn't make it a Rib-eye. For a place called The Local you would think they would have some local veggies with my chop. Let me stop. Harford County needs a place like this so I won't hate too much. I had very high hopes for this place based on the hype. If I could give a recommendation it would be to drop the prices by ten bucks a meal and I would come back. But for the prices I paid tonight, I'll hit Ruth Chris or The Prime Rib before I ever go back. read more

So, I've been to The Local three times now, and I think three stars is fair. There's a hype about this place, but a lot of it is self-promotion (good for them), and I think in Harford County we are starved for a great, non-chain, restaurant. Got the beef Wellington last visit, and it just disappointed. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't $110 (for two) good. I'd be underwhelmed at a $40 price point . It just tasted burnt. It was either the pastry or the mushroom duxelle. The meat itself was cooked fine. For the hype of the place you expect the food to wow you, but it doesn't. Had the lobster bisque too. It wasn't horrible either, but nothing to write home about. No burning desire to go back, but I'd encourage everyone to see for themselves and maybe you'll have a different opinion. Service was fine. Not a horrible experience, just not memorable. read more

My mother and I brought my grandmother there for dinner this past Saturday. Combined with my mother's recent Dinner visit and my past brunch visit, we have had good experiences, and relayed that to my grandmother. The ambiance and staffing were as before-pretty good, nothing offensive/upsetting except the bothersome flies... We ordered the Cream of Crab Soup, MD Crab/Cream of Crab Soup, the Crabcakes w/ asparagus, the Charbroiled Oysters, a side of Broccolini, The Watermelon Salad w/ Feta w/ Shrimp on the side, The Fried Green Tomatoes w/ Crab, and two sides of the Crab Fried Rice. The Crabcakes were Ok but lukewarm, and the Watermelon Salad w/ Shrimp was decent but overpriced. The Broccolini was brought out with a HUGE stalk, which is weird-it needed some type of sauce (luckily I was brought some Balsamic Glaze to out over it), and the Crab soups were passable. The Fried Green Tomatoes were not good-the sauce was weird, and there was NO trace of seasoning to be found. The Lump Crab was big, but cold, and was most definitely NOT from MD. The biggest issue was that Crab Fried Rice: not a DROP of Soy Sauce or any kind of Seasoning/Flavoring was to be found in that dish. There was chopped up lumps of BOILED eggs in it, which is NOT how you make a fried rice, and the rice was gummy/very overcooked. To pay $200 for a below par meal was insulting-it almost felt slightly targeted when we looked at other diner's plates... I tried calling the restaurant, but received no answer. Didn't feel that leaving a voicemail would resolve anything, so I'm expressing my right to leave a review of our experience. Please do better, and bring the restaurant's food back to what it used to be. read more

Hostess was very disorganized No reservations for groups under 6 people Tables and seating are extremely crowded No safe --- distance observed here Bar CROWDED also Bar tender is extremely rude After an hour wait The food was good -I had the salmon But We received the wrong orders Hopefully they will get it together Great concept though Manager was very friendly and apologetic read more

I didn't even know this place existed. What a nice restaurant/bar with a great idea. All the food and most of the beverages are supplied by local farms, breweries and distilleries. (If you've read any of my other reviews you know I love that and hate frozen food that you can get at any restaurant.) There were three in our party. We all got the French Onion soup! It was excellent. My sister had the chicken salad with Mac and cheese; loved it. (If anything go for the Mac and cheese, I tried it and it's amazing) My brother-in-law got some chicken sandwich. He is a man of few words but at least said "it's good," I had the Betty Dixon with risotto. So good! And the pickled jalapeño are not jarred! (I have a thing about those; it's called hatred.) We decided to indulge in a little libation so we ordered the kings tea and jalapeño business. Um......YUM! I'm not a huge iced tea person but this drink was great. The jalapeño business was not spicy but you could taste jalapeño flavor with the pineapple. Delicious all around. We did go at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon so if you are a local you know everyone and their mother is out in the area. The parking lot is small and shared with a Dunkin' so parking is limited. Also if you can avoid sitting at the table right by the door when the sun is shining in, do it. There are no blinds and we basically cooked while we were sitting there. (Hint hint owners....grab some blinds bc we were hot and blinded by the light.) Overall I loved this place. It's a little pricey but it's what I expect when I pay for real, fresh, locally sourced food. So whether you are a local or not, try The Local. You won't be disappointed and you'll be helping small community businesses. read more

We have meals out all the time and this place was the worst for the money! The server had a personality of a rock and the attire looked like they were ready to lock us up in the basement. When we ordered a house Cabernet, she made a big deal about it being the cheapest, although we had already ordered four relatively expensive appetizers. Do not waste your money at this place. This was our third visit to The Local. We had dinner and cocktails on the patio. We sat at the patio bar and our server Carol couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We started with the Cucumber Crush which is excellent. We had some cornbread with jalapeño whipped butter - to die for! We ordered the tuna appetizer which was perfect. The locally sourced angus beef tenderloin was melt in your mouth good, cooked to perfection.We finished off with the flourless chocolate cake. This is all while listening to some very nice live music. The Local has it all. Definitely raising the bar for Harford County dining! Every time we visit The Local it gets better. read more

I was excited to try this place. I went for lunch on a Friday so it wasn't crowded. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was pricey, but I knew that going in. It was ok at best, but definitely not worth the price. Maybe it was what I ordered. I tried the fried oyster po-boy and it was covered in slaw and sauce, despite me asking for it on the side. The fried oysters had no taste, were all breading, and were very small. I would not order this again. My husband had a bowl of chili. It was good, but overpriced for what it was. The fries were good. I might give the this place another try eventually. I think they need to think about their prices. read more

What a spectacular little gem! The restaurant has a warm and elegant decor. The service was fantastic with just the right amount of attention when we needed a dish removed or a glass refilled. The food was delicious! We are always We were served warm cornbread to start, and tried the cream of crab soup as an appetizer. We ordered the shrimp and grits, and the filet. For dessert we chose the bananas foster - Oh. My. God. It was good enough to make your eyes roll back in your head. What an absolutely perfect place. went last Friday and took my in laws from out of town for the first time. We have been here many times but will NOT be back. It was the worst food I have had in a while. The short ribs were chewy chopped up steak, the steak was barely 6 oz, the pork chops were chewy. We really enjoyed an early dinner at the Local! We started off with a complimentary cornbread which was truly the best cornbread I've ever had. The Jalapeño Business cocktail was amazing. The grilled caramelized pineapple was a pretty and delicious touch. The chargrilled oysters were plump and flavorful. I just wish there was an even number to make it easier for splitting! Lastly, the buttermilk chicken sandwich was so good. The chicken was well cooked and the flavors were great. The fries were hand cut and yummy. I think they'd go better with a garlic aioli dipping sauce instead of ketchup. We will definitely go back to try more of the menu! read more

I couldn't wait to try out the newest restaurant in Harford County! Decided to stop in midweek for lunch when they were less crowded. I took a seat at the bar and started with the French onion soup that had just the right amount of cheese and was very flavorful. I chose the short rib grilled cheese with fries. The meat was perfectly cooked as were the house cut fries. Interestingly they sprinkled a cinnamon mix on the fries which was actually pretty good. As delicious as the food was, I must say the old fashioned was the icing on the cake! The first one I've had that was smoked with wood chips in front of my eyes. The first time I went I had my server Danielle who was super sweet and informative about the menu we only came for dessert and it was fabulous. I had split a banana foster with my boyfriend and it had small buisness graham cracker icecream paired with it which was amazing as well. The second time we went we got dinner and Cameron as our server who was also very nice and was very helpful with our specific order. She even ran my cc card outside to me when I had left it at the table after eater very thoughtful! We spit a delicious local burger cooked medium well juicy as all can be with side fries coated in brown sugar tasted just bbq seasoning sweet and tangy it was so good. Then came around to the bannna foster again! Big hit defiantly recommend coming here for lunch or dinner the service is nice the food is a bit expensive but it's local what you expect and the resteraunt is clean hope to see more great things from this buisness. read more
