We ate here recently on a trip up to Boone. It was pleasant outside, so we sat on the porch. We were allowed to bring our dog up on the porch with us, so he was thrilled to not sit in the car. I ordered the Boonie Burger and it was really good. I liked the fried green tomato touch. I would say my fries were good, but my daughter ate all of them before I had a chance! I stole a piece of her wood-fired pizza, though, and loved that as well. read more

We arrived around 4:15 for an early dinner so there was plenty of seating available. It was a nice day so we chose to sit outside. We sat on the edge, near the railing so my husband did get a bit hot when the sun shifted directly on him. I started with 8 wings with medium Buffalo sauce. The nachos looked delicious, but it would've been too much food for us so we didn't order it. For our meal, I ordered the Uber Meats pizza and husband got the Margherita pizza. The wings could have been a bit crisper. And the sauce looked light, but it had a good flavor. The pizza crust was slighter thicker than thin. My pizza had a decent amount of meat, but I thought it could've had more sausage. I was satisfied with my pizza and husband liked his. Service was a bit slow. Our server was friendly. She was also bartending so we didn't see her much during our meal. Wings came out in an acceptable time. The pizzas took a while to come out. All the workers here were noticeably friendly, including the hostesses. The interactions left me feeling good about the place. 45 minute wait on a football Saturday evening. Bar is also managed by host stand. Looks like more alumni and families around 6:30. Good variety of cocktails on the menu plus beer, wine, and liquor. We got to sit on the patio which overlooks Howard St, just a block away from King Street. After a full day at Beech Mountain I enjoyed sitting in a patio, sipping on a cocktail, and enjoying some great food. The she crab soup had a good balance of seasoning with great flavor. The BBQ pork nachos had a great variety of flavors and were easy to share. And the Uber Meat flatbread filled us up as we finished our meal. I got the smoked Gouda, bacon, chicken and fif sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. Wife got the pulled pork nachos. Daughter got a chicken Caesar salad. Salad was very good. Nachos were awesome according to my wife and daughter. My sandwich was good but my chicken had a very odd texture to it. It was cooked but when you bit into it, it kind of crunched as your teeth penetrated through. I highly doubt it was fresh chicken. The strangest texture to chicken I've ever experienced. Not pleasant at all. The taste was ok but the texture absolutely ruined the sandwich. The mac n cheese was very good. Our server kept our water full and checked on our table several times. I'm not one to complain about food. I never mentioned the odd chicken texture to her. I just don't trust people to handle your food right once you've complained. Call me paranoid. Food, one alcohol drink plus tip was $80 for three people. Most dishes are Ala carte so expect to pay more for sides. I know the reviews for this place are real good and maybe I for the one dish that got away from them. My family was very impressed with the food. My chicken ruined it for me. I have been enjoying The Local for years, and know it is one of the best restaurants in our Boone area. The cocktails are always stellar, and the food is a beautiful and wonderful experience each time. I have so many allergies, and the kitchen takes great care in their prep for my delicious meals. For those who have issue with the parking in the area, please note that parking is (and remains) a struggle in Boone and is not under the control of most of the restaurants or businesses in our town. Also, knowing the great service response of the staff, if you have an issue with service, just share it with the staff. They do truly care. Consistency is the key, and The Local has got it! I've been many times since my last review, but I haven't taken time to update it. After last night, I decided it was overdue. Had friends from out of town, and decided to bring them here. Busy as always and usual, but the wait wasn't bad. Sitting outside on this extremely pleasant evening couldn't have been better. Didn't take time for the usual food photographs, but it looked great, and was delicious as always. Started with an appetizer of brussels sprouts which are fantastic - highly recommend these. Also, the sweet potato fries were particularly good - they're small cut which makes them really crispy plus they had just the right amount of salt. That's why what I am about to say should matter to you. With tears running down my face, I ate this Cuban. My wife said nothing. She knew what was happening. I've been on a 15 year quest to find my favorite Cuban and favorite Reuben. Half of my quest is complete. I have never had a better Cuban. I can't believe I'm giving a random pub & grub restaurant 5 stars but they deserve it! Our first time was a Thursday night and our server was Elizabeth. Stellar-best of the best. I thought that didn't exist anymore. We ordered drinks and an amazing cheese curd app. Everything was wonderful. For our main entrees we had a burger with sweet potato fries and the shrimp tacos with beans. All absolutely perfect & fantastic! Service beyond amazing. We left feeling super grateful for day 1 of our vacay. Day 2! Decided against reservations in a nearby town and our second choice had a private event NOT advertised. Thank goodness we called. So we went back to the Local. Was told an hour wait, it was 20 minutes. Another fabulous server and unfortunately didn't get the name but he appeared to be bartending also and still did a fab job. I'll admit out of all the menus we scoped (yes we are those people), the local looked by far the best for brunch, so I'm so glad they could get us in when they opened! With an eclectic atmosphere and airy feel, we immediately knew this brunch spot was one for the books. We started with pulled pork/smoked Gouda nachos topped with cheerwine bbq sauce, the Ashe Co squeaky cheese curds with chipotle ranch, and the Brussel sprouts overtop of a "secret sauce" which tasted like a mixture of balsamic and soy sauce (probably my second favorite Brussels ever) for appetizers and of course it wouldn't be brunch without a pitcher of grapefruit mimosa. Great customer service even on a slightly busier night. Came here after a long day of hiking in the outdoors and the heartiness of the meal was a much needed reprieve. Started with the artichoke dip, which was a bit on the heavier side with the cheese but tasty nonetheless. The Bonnie burger was the juiciest burger I've ever had! Believe the recent reviews !!! Went in for lunch. Truffle fries had way too much garlic. Water coming from the vents falling on my family. We stopped in Boone, NC on our way back to Ohio. The Local was a great place to stop for a Sunday brunch. They had a fantastic selection of food and drinks on the menu. My husband had the Na'an Traditional Cuban sandwich and it was fantastic. I tried the Fried Green BLT, also fantastic!! Laura, our server did a wonderful job with food and drink selections.
