My family & I ate dinner at The Local on 2/24. The food and service was great. Unfortunately when we left, LMS Parking had a boot on our car. We showed the tow attendant our $100 dinner receipt, but he didn't care. We had to pay $160 for boot removal. The lot designated for paying restaurant customers isn't safe from predatory towing. I completely forgot to take any photos of our food before we ate (inhaled) our lunch. I ordered the fig & bacon sandwich that was CRAZY good. I requested gluten-free bread and it was only $1.25 more- which was so reasonable! My husband got the fish and chips and loved it! We got the fruit crisp for dessert and devoured it! You can tell that they have put a lot of thought and care into their menu choices and the way they create food. Additionally, the staff was absolutely delightful. She listed a few options, we gave our preferences. The cocktail was $18 with Hendricks. It was a gimlet with cucumber- nothing revolutionary or unique. That is NYC pricing! Not Boone. Jesus. Our server was lovely, she was doing her job to upsell BUT there was never a mention of "upgrading" to a "top shelf" liquor. (Hendricks isn't top shelf in any bar) Completely unreasonable. The location was great, but upon entering the establishment the gay pride flag stands prominent behind the host stand and my kids noticed sayings on the wall under the Alphabet movement which some people would rather not have to swallow. We would have rather enjoyed our great meal and our family vacation without this added discussion about this progressive agenda. So great place to eat, and better if opinions could be left at home. (Still not eating in restaurants and won't until America takes COVID seriously.) Fired up Yelp and looked at some menus -- and chose this place specifically because of the Brussels Sprouts appetizer on the menu. I had the Beet Burger and companion had Fish and Chips. Both were tasty, well-made, and well presented. And you'd be crazy not to order the Brussels Sprouts. I could live on them. In all, a worthwhile choice and a place that takes food seriously, so I'd imagine most any menu selection would be worth a try. read more

We went here for my dad's 80th birthday. Everything was really good. I got the goat cheese burger and it was really tasty. The meat was cooked perfectly medium and was particularly good beef. Super happy and could not be more pleased with our service from Madi. She was fantastic and had an awesome personality. The food and drink were on point. A great deck for hanging out during warm days in Boone. The food is really good and the staff is friendly. During busy times you have to work a little harder to get your server's attention. The staff seems overwhelmed on the weekends. The menu is vast so a great spot for bringing a group- Bahn Mi is amazing, salads are great and burgers never disappoint. We loved this place! We were in town for 3 nights and ate here 2 of them! The first night our server was Laney and she was super informative and personable! Tonight we came in and they didn't have any tables available and they asked if we wanted to sit at the bar and we are SO glad we did!! Jason was awesome! Great service! Um, yum! I had the best birthday dinner at The Local this weekend. The only downside was that the patio was half empty, but they wouldn't seat us there because the server assigned was overwhelmed. I have never been to a restaurant that would turn away someone for an open patio table vs. having another server take the table. No worries though, that was the only thing that wasn't great!! After a long day of hiking, my friend and I ordered a bunch of food. We started out with the cheese curds and the brussel sprouts for appetizers. OMG both were so good. They came out pretty quickly. For dinner, we split the grown up grilled cheese and got a truffle fries app as well as a Caesar salad. The grilled cheese was sooo yummy- bacon, goat cheese and figs! The truffle fries were amazing as well. The Caesar salad was a regular Caesar salad but did the trick. We sat in the bar at a table and the bartender took care of us. I want to give this restaurant a 3.5 only b/c of the service but can't b/c the food was lovely. Placed a carryout order, food was ready promptly and presentation was good. Good is good for carryout. We all have had that experience when we are wanting more and it looks as though the kitchen has dropped our food on the floor before boxing it. Moving onto our order - Thai Beef Tidbits - sauce was slightly salty for my liking, but the beef was super tender and the plantains were a nice pairing. Presentation wasn't on pair like the rest of the dishes. Apple, Blue & Bacon Pizza - the bacon wasn't crisp enough and we all wanted a touch more honey but overall great flavor. Wings - 12 medium and 12 Dry Rub, by far the Dry Rub was the best! Wings were moist, not dry and we reheated the leftovers the next day w/out any issues. For the medium sauce it was more like mild which was a disappointment. Still great flavor nonetheless. Caesar Salad - plentiful but came with the dressing on it - lesson learned ask for it on the side. Keeping it a 4 star - hope to dine in next time we are in town. read more

My wife and I were traveling through Western North Carolina and spent three nights in Boone. On our final night we popped into The Local for an early dinner, much to our eventual delight. Our server was a delightful pro, our cocktails were very well made, and our food exceeded expectations. My Baja shrimp tacos were the best shrimp tacos I've ever eaten. Perfectly crispy fried big shrimp dressed beautifully with a nice kick of roasted red peppers, crumbled cheese, shredded fresh lettuce, diced tomatoes and crème on the most perfectly crispy flour tortillas. The two tacos were watched over and pumped up by a really flavorful serving of black beans with terrific seasoning and sour crispy greens. My wife went for the Na'an Traditional Cuban. I had a bite at her insistence. It was really great toasty na'an bread holding pulled pork, bacon, cheese and perfect condiments. Her truffle shoestrings were also delicious if not quite as crisp as preferred. Summary: really hospitable staff (seems a Boone trademark), top-notch service and high-quality, flavorful ingredients packaged and presented far and above what you'd expect from a super casual restaurant. We were super happy. The place left these tourists wishing they were Locals. Very impressive in a saloon setting filled with families, couples and friends. We found no detractors other than possibly challenging parking. Finally, everything was a real bargain in pricing compared to where we live in Florida. And the staff so much friendlier! read more

Spoiler - I'm biased. My daughter works at The Local. But I'm also honest. The Local is my favorite restaurant in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. Every item on the menu is fantastic. I am partial to shrimp and grits, but I also love the Asian salad with grilled salmon. You can add chicken or steak if you prefer - but the Asian salad is awesome. Fish and chips are also a great choice. For Sunday brunch, I normally get the stuffed French toast with bacon and hash browns, but the omelets are great too. Appetizers - I go for the cheese curds, but the loaded nachos and brussel sprouts are also popular choices. As far as the bar - there are no better bartenders in the state than those at The Local. These guys create their own cocktails. There are plenty of beers on tap. Jimmy Buffet would die to serve margaritas as good as those at The Local in his Margaritaville restaurants. For those who drink too much on Saturday night, there are 37-ish ingredients in the Bloody Mary's on Sunday morning. The servers are great and knowledgeable of the menu. Everyone who works there are like family. And there's a reason that the restaurant is named The Local. While tourists keep coming back, The Local is where the locals choose to dine and drink. Students from Appalachian State can afford to eat there, so the prices are reasonable. And the produce is local. The restaurant supports local farmers and businesses. Everything is fresh and made to order. The restaurant is also dog friendly. They offer a year-round porch for guests who want to show off their four-legged family members. The restaurant is popular, so reservations are a good idea - except on weekends when it's first come/first served. My favorite seat is at the bar where I can talk to guests and watch my daughter or one of the other fine bartenders mix my drinks. Call ahead on Tuesdays as the restaurant doesn't open until mid afternoon. Most days they are open at 11AM, and on Sundays there is a line as early as 10:30. 2-4 seems to be the sweet spot for short waiting times to be seated. read more
