Was only in town for one night, and even on a Tuesday, The Local has strong turnout (evident by a very full parking lot that required some patience on my part). Unfortunately, it seems that when business is good, solo eaters are relegated to the bar - exactly where I didn't want to be after a long day of work-related travel. I took a seat on the end (the only spot that assured I wouldn't have to sit between on next to anyone), and although the bartender did her best to humor one truly obnoxious customer and get my order in, it wasn't a great experience overall. The pesto pasta was a salty, basic dish I could've prepared better at home. I left regretting my decision to go to The Local for a peaceful, quiet meal. Will not return. read more

We have found a new favorite place in Boone for appetizers and drinks! "The Local" has pretty upscale appetizers, we loved the "Pulled Pork & Smoked Gouda Nachos" today. The barbecue sauce, and the pulled pork is really sweet, and the Gouda cheese is rich, different, and super tasty. Everything is layered on just like my wife loves it. Hubby and I were on a day trip and stopped in for lunch here! What a treat! Service was great. The food was amazing. Definitely will have to come back up for this gem. Thai Beef Tidbits!!! Wow!! They were sooo good. The sauce was impeccable and it went well with the sweet plantains that are served with them. Absolutely recommend. Southern Steak Philly flatbread was what I ordered and it was delicious. I wanted another order but that would have been greedy of me. My hubby ordered the Blackened Goat Cheese burger. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. For dessert, I ordered the Carolina Beignets and my hubby ordered the Mississippi Mud Pie. What a way to wrap up an epic lunch date. My fraternity brother Tom and I haven't been locals for 30 years now, but that didn't stop our waitress Lily from tending to us as sure as if we'd been Otis checking into Mayberry's finest! Hospitality is on tap here and freely flowing . . . it took only a moment before Tom was quaffing West End pilsner while we reminisced about our undergraduate days here at Appalachian State University. The next thing we knew, we were halfway through The World's Best Roasted Brussels Sprouts and pondering our next move! Fortunately Lily knew something from the looks on our rapacious mugs -- what we needed next was she crab soup and the delicious beet and kale salad. Nomnonnom, was she right! Three courses behind us, the moment came to select entrees. We chose to divide and conquer chicken quarters: two thighs and two legs.. How could a single human consume such a generous portion? With scrumptious penne mac and cheese to boot? No sir, we chose the right approach in splitting this one. I cannot believe we had once pondered the steak and fries in addition; rest assured we did! And the next time either of us visits this place, I'm sure we'll give that dish a try. Fortunately, we still had a tiny bit of room left for dessert after the chicken. Once again, Lily's recommendation was spot on. Mississippi Mud Pie was our dessert of choice. As I soak here in the Jacuzzi, composing this review, my contented frat bro Tom is fast asleep in his adjoining hotel suite, digesting pilsner and the rest of our fantastic meal. As you might expect, The Local is popular with locals. Lots of gluten free options (and vegan/dairy free but i didn't partake). I ordered the blackened goat cheese burger. Server asked the temp and i asked for "a little bit of pink" she asked "so medium well" and i explained that that usually ends with a dry burger, so i suggested medium or medium rare, depending on how the chef interprets a little bit of pink. It came back as dry as you could possible make a burger. By the time she came back i had cut into it and the server said "oh, that's not pink". The re-do came back red rather than pink. The gluten free bun substitute was just gf bread, which might have been okay except it soaked up all the raw hamburger and was soggy upon arrival. Girlfriend got the pesto alfredo penne pasta and really liked it. I don't like pesto, but the sauce tasted good to me. The management was understanding and comped the burger. The 1911 original cider was great (unfortunately not referencing the M1911), and the shoestring fries were pretty good, too. read more

A quick Google search listed The Local as a place to visit. 2pm on a fri afternoon, this place was busier than expected as it is very close to App State on spring break. I was seated at bar and the bartender, Lainy, was amazing. Friendly, quick with service, always with a bright smile! Struck up a conversation with another solo diner, very friendly all around. Brunch today on our way out of town. It was excellent. Great COVID precautions, tables spaced and staff masked. Waiting list by cell phone. Food from the brunch menu was super tasty! The variety made it hard to pick a winner. Coffee was a 10. We ordered the French Toast special (Strawberry & Cream Cheese) side of fruit, plus the Huevos Rancheros.
