We were picking up a friend's dog and there were several people before us but the staff were very friendly and were very caring with all the dogs that came out. One didn't want to leave. When it was our turn they mentioned how good our friend's dog was they brought all of his food, toys and personal stuff. Since he is quite big and there was another small dog in the waiting area they brought him around the back door. They were great with all of the dogs that we saw and would probably leave our dog there if we had one. read more

We've been using this place for boarding and day care since our girl Marceline was a pup and we can highly recommend it. The staff are amazing and great with doggies. They do everything possible to keep the dogs happy and healthy. We've had to have them help with meds, do grooming, special instructions and they always do an awesome job. All I can say is to be wary of one time bad experiences that are shared on here. When you're talking about a place with a bunch of dogs and humans interacting, there is always going to be an incident or two but the staff handle it very well and are always extremely communicative. We've used the Local Bark for both daycare and boarding. Our puppy is pretty timid around other dogs and we are working on socializing her. The first few time she came I was afraid she'd cower when we walked in the door and she realized where she was...so I was surprised she went in with a wagging tail! After only a couple visits they greeted her by name when she came in. She always leaves happy and exhausted and takes lots of naps the next day, so I know she's having fun! Every day around lunch time they post pictures on their Facebook page of all the dogs there, so it's fun to peek in at what is going on! I also like the daily "report card" saying how their went and who they played with. Also, they have a military discount for active duty and veterans! Took my dogs to stay here for Fourth of July weekend thinking that they knew how to handle dogs during fireworks and stress. We explained we wanted our 2 dogs to be boarded together, so they could keep each other company. We get a call the day after 4th of July that they had more fireworks than expected and during a moment that my dog was left alone she ate and ripped apart the wall inside the kennel. So this leaves me to believe that our dog was not being supervised, and also makes me question why my dog was separated from my other dog? We then get a call (while still on vacation) that she consumed a bunch of the wall (more than initially explained) and is being lethargic, oh and by the way they are billing us about $500 to fix the wall that happened while they were NOT supervising my dog. I pay good money to have my dog watched, if you mess up while watching my dog I don't expect to get charged for it...that's YOUR mess up as a business. If my dog had destructed something while being actively watched (that's one thing) but here you admitted that you were NOT monitoring my dog. We continue to get calls during our vacation of different stories (we owe $500, another one says $300, another person says maybe it's just $25 per hour to fix the wall). Finally we get a call from the "owner" saying that he won't "bill us" for his time while he was fixing this issue and he will only bill us $100. They made it clear that this has never happened before, and that they are sorry...yet they want to get some more money out of us. I pay $400-$600 each time we board our dogs here, money is not an issue. But for you to bill me for NOT doing what I pay you to do? I pay you to watch my dog, and you let my dog consume drywall and get sick to her stomach, during the MOST STRESSFUL DAY OF THE YEAR 4th of July. Then you want to bill me? I will pay the $100, no big deal. But this is the last time I take my dogs here, I will be going elsewhere. And if you didn't want my dogs to come back you could have just told me and I would have gone elsewhere without reviewing you. But to bill me $100 measly dollars on top of cutting my vacation short to come get my dog, on top of my dog puking for eating stuff while under your supervision...WOW. On top of that when we showed up a day early to grab our dogs, they were caught off guard...didn't want to take us to the back to see the damage at first. And my dog was shoved in a tiny crate isolated because of what she did...even though this was not her fault, she should have been SUPERVISED! I recommend you go elsewhere to spend your money, somewhere that is open for surprise visits and is willing to walk you into their facility with no restrictions. A place that has nothing to hide. Don't go to this place. They can take their $100 and shove it! I included a picture of my dog in a tiny crate which was seen when I first walked in a day early to pick up my dogs. She was treated like a criminal for being stressed on 4th of July. I hope the $100 is well utilized! Take care! I spoke with a couple other business owners of kennel/boarding places and explained this situation and they were MIND BLOWN that we were being charged. My wife and I have utilized The Local Bark for daycare and boarding and it was adequate. As she's noted, the strict policies on vaccinations and sick dogs were appreciated to keep our doggie and others safe. Unfortunately, the facility itself lacks a true indoor area and with the covered spaces always exposed to the outdoors, we always had concerns regarding excessive heat exposure (especially in the Summer), rainy days, etc. The lack of live video streaming and verbal/written feedback were collectively very disappointing for us as we could not get any idea of how our doggie did with the staff and other canines. Other facilities both in the area and elsewhere do a superior job in this regard and without requiring any premium. On the upside, the pool area is a nice option, just not applicable to us as our dog is largely averse to the water. So while we appreciated their services during those times of need, we've moved on to other places that provide more comprehensive care. read more

Great place to board your pup! Pool time is great! I thought this was a solid establishment rub by great professionals that really care about your dog's well being. The building is large and has a pool for the dogs to play in. They seem to really love the pool. The staff were great on drop off and pick up. It was clean and bright and didn't have a Kemal vibe at all. I felt like it was more like doggie camp and less like doggie prison. One of the great parts of this place is the fact that they post photos online of all the pups playing during the day. I love being able to see everyone playing and having a good time. Those updates really are important. It also lets me have check up on the place as well. I'll use them again for my pup boarding needs. read more

I had reached out to the Local Bark after receiving a positive recommendation from a friend. She had mentioned taking her dog there for training after being at her wits end with her dog's crazy antics. Initially I had emailed a request in and upon receiving a response back, I was surprised to see that they were saying that they wouldn't be able to assist me with my dogs issues of barking at new comers/strangers and poor leash manners on walks. After moving on to search for other trainers, I noticed the Local Bark continued to post on social media of success stories of dogs with very similar training issues as mine, which seemed odd considering they told me that they wouldn't be able to assist with those issues for my dog because it wasn't something their training covered. So I reached back out to them a second time, thinking maybe something was misunderstood with my first communication, and was told the same thing again, that their training program didn't cover that stuff and that unfortunately I should go try to work with another trainer...but to come back if I was interested in boarding or day play... So all in all, while my experience was confusing, the staff did seem friendly and it does seem like some people have had a good experience with them, unfortunately I'm just not able to say that I was one. read more

Initially I had high hopes for this boarding facility, however after today I can't recommend them in good faith. While expressing that each employee is trained in animal behavior, the manager clearly proves that they are not. If trained in animal behavior, a mild mannered dog growling because it didn't want to stop playing would not trigger you, since it's a classic retriever behavior that can be easily corrected by someone who has actual animal behavior experience. Rather than using this experience to help my dog feel more comfortable, the managment decision was to ban my dog from the facility. Admitting that he did not lunge, bite, or show any actual signs of aggression, rather growling and playing a game of chase to avoid being captured, she still chose to let me know he was not welcome back. Every business has to make a decision for their own liability, however it's clear that these people do not actually care about dogs however and only care to babysit quiet and timid dogs, whatever makes their day easier. read more

I can't rave enough about this place. I sent my German Shepard here for training it was for 21 days and a huge investment but totally worth it. I was scared he wasn't trainable but not true. Ivonne did an amazing job with our boy and everyone he sees says wow that is a different dog. He pulled, barked, didn't listen, wouldn't settle done and there is noway my grandkids could walk him. I have mixed feelings about this place. We've brought our dog here a couple of times for day care and boarding. Orientation/behavioral test was very convenient (you just make an appointment and drop your pup off for the day) It's very easy to make reservations through the portal. However, It seems like they're constantly having staffing issues and at max capacity. Often times we were told the dogs didn't have pool time due to staffing? Anywho, my dog absolutely loves it here but every time we pick him up, he smells god awful!. Today was the worst (wet, pee/poo on his paws, belly & tail). Just be prepared to wash your dog afterwards. read more

My yellow lab loves it here. I mostly drop her off to play and swim at daycare but she's been boarded for two nights as well. I have not had any issues with scheduling, concerns with her treatment or welfare while at TLB. I like that they are strict about vaccine records and all dogs must pass a temperament test. Okay, I will admit. We are the most overprotective doggie parents with the most high maintenance snotty dogs. AND WE ALL LOVE THIS PLACE. Having moved to the area recently, we had to find a new doggy daycare, boarding facility that our dogs could attend. We started with Petsmart's doggy boarding and day camp, but that didn't work out. We then wanted to try this place out, but were put off with their fecal test that they required so we looking into other places. Lets just say we ended up back here for a reason. Hindsight, its nice that they required that fecal test because it assures us they have our dogs health in mind. So after that was done and all the paperwork turned in our dogs started here (two 3 year old lab mixes). We take them to daycare about once a week and our dogs always come home worn out, but happy and content. We usually just do half day because we work from home, which is daycare for four hours or less, but they have great full day pricing and doggie package rates as well. We also wanted them to come here because it is a one stop shop for grooming, training, day care, and boarding. They have great boarding facilities and our dogs are able to room together in one large room. They have everything you need so we only send our dogs off for boarding with just food and a couple of toys. They supply the beds, and have options for luxury bedding, and they have their own bowls they use. As you probably are aware, dogs will tell you how they feel about places on how they act when you bring them back. Our dogs love coming here and are always excited when we ask them if they want to go to "Daycare." The girls that work at the front desk remember your dog and call your dogs "kids" which of course warms our hearts. They also do report cards depending on how long your dog stays with them, which tells you how they played, ate, their health, and who they interacted with. I also love their indoor, outdoor options for the dogs so we know our dogs can be outside and play or they can stay warm inside as well. I recommend this place OVER all of the other Folsom, Sacramento, and citrus heights dog day care and boarding facilities. read more

The Local Bark is an amazing boarding facility. We chose this place because Folsom Dog Resort unjustly breed restricts pitbulls and were turned away. The Local Bark evaluates all dogs to make sure they are a good fit no matter the breed which is what they should do. We took Sophie in for the evaluation and the staff was friendly, helpful, and cared about their guests. Sophie passed her evaluation with flying colors (because pitbulls are wondeful) and stayed that weekend while we were out of town. Pictures are posted on the Facebook every day in the evening so you can be updated on how your dog is doing every day which is awesome! At the end of the stay we got a "Guest Report Card" which included Overall Experience, Favorite Activities, Health Inspection, Appetite, and how playtime went. It was informative and helpful to see how she did while we were away. It even had a place where they indicate their "Best Friend" who your dog played with the most which is adorable. They even have a pool with toys they could enjoy with a beach entrance which is more accommodating for those dogs that are not avid swimmers. This is an extra charge (1st time is free) but totally worth it with the heat of summer. I highly recommend this facility for your fur family members. I came here for a tour the other day because I am looking for boarding for my dogs. This place does have an impressive facility with a pool and lots of outdoor space. The staff also appeared to be very attentive to all the animals they had staying with them. My issue with this place is that our dogs do not do well with heat and require more one on one care which would come at an astronomical cost at this facility. The location of this facility is also kinda out of the way in the middle of an industrial. I am not saying this is a bad facility. In fact I was impressed during my tour, which is why I am leaving a review. But it did not meet my needs and the needs of my dogs. My dogs love going to the Local Bark, and have been doing so for the paat 5 years. The owners are great and the staff is always friendly and welcoming and give great service and its clean. What I love most are their hours - 6:30 am to 6:30 pm Monday thru Friday which is terrific for my work schedule when I take my Boyz (a shepherd mix and an anatolian shepherd) for playcare during the day. They offer full services at reasonable prices: playcare day and half day packages; boarding; grooming; and training. The overnight boarding spaces are nice, especially because they have clear doors for all - no caged wires for the dogs to look through. Playcare during the day allows my dogs to get totally tired. The have three or four separate "play" areas so they can keep dog packs separated by size and such, not including the indoor training room that you can see from the lobby. they have cots in the open areas along with some toys and in the summer they bring out the plastic pools. read more

Our fur baby loves the Local Bark and so do we. The facility is amazingly clean and the staff that work there are so friendly and genuinely love/ care about all the pups that are brought there! We love being able to trust our dog in the Local Bark's care. Added bonus that they do so much more than day care (grooming, boarding, training, etc.) if we ever need it! My pup Oreo goes to the Local Bark about three times a week. She always comes home happy and ready to rest. The staff there knows her and I by name and always gives me updates on how she's doing. They are also concerned about the wellbeing of other dogs there. When Oreo was showing symptoms of kennel cough, they called me immediately, recommended some home remedies and told me to keep them updated. They asked me to wait 7-10 days until I brought her back for the safety of the other dogs--very responsible! I am unable to say enough positive comments about The Local Bark. Nearly 10 years ago a stray male pit bull joined our family, we named him Boris. He required a plethora of training (and so did I) so that we could incorporate his horrific life experiences (the worst humans possible trained him to fight) into a loving life. Ann took us under her wing and did an absolutely amazing job of reaching his kind, loving, and nurturing heart... then trained us both with calm and clear instructions. Together, Boris and I became a life long team. He enjoyed all the Local Bark exercise, loving & cuddles from all of the amazing team members and trainers, and private care, as he was not able to be a part of the general pack of big dogs. The groomers knew exactly how to make him wag and howl with excitement each week that he came in for his pampering spa days. Boris passed away earlier this month and everyone at The Local Bark were heartbroken. They sent us a card FILLED with paragraphs of how much they loved him, what an amazing positive difference he made in their lives, and how they will always cherish his snuggles and how he "talked" to them. They truly loved him and took absolutely the best care of him, as they do all of their guests. I regularly brought my large bernedoodle puppy to the Local Bark and Animal Den for the past few months and he always had a great time! He always came back excited yet exhausted. The staff was well trained and helped correct him of unwanted behavior and even put sunscreen on his nose to prevent sunburn. I also highly recommend Ivonne M. for dog training and Stephanie A for grooming. Ivonne uses a variety of methods including treat training with a harness. She worked with us to figure out our puppy's temperament and also identify what type of training methods we felt was okay for our puppy. She provided details of training sessions, videos, and also shared a lot of helpful tips to continue training on our own. Stephanie did an amazing grooming job. We were initially hesitant to try grooming at the Local Bark due to the unique complexities of doodle cuts. Stephanie was patient and took time to get to know our dog so he was calm for the cut. We provided a few sample pictures and the cut came out amazingly well. read more

I can't say enough good things about The Local Bark & Animal Den. I've taken my GSP to daycare here 2-3 times a week for about 6 months now. The staff have always been super friendly and helpful. I was on the fence about taking my dog to daycare in general but it was necessary due to him being a high energy breed with my husband and I working full time. Daycare has greatly helped with his socialization skills and social cues. I felt comfortable enough with my experiences with daycare that I also boarded him for my wedding. I was nervous that he would be scared to attend daycare after being boarded but we had no issues! He plays all day with his friends and knocks out in the car as soon as I pick him up which is a godsend when owning such a high energy breed such as a GSP. The daily pictures posted on Facebook are such a nice bonus and give peace of mind that your dog is having fun. I have recommended The Local Bark (and Animal Den) to all of my friends and family in the area with dogs. read more

We drive 45 mins to an hour to drop our dogs off for boarding. This is the only place we trust with are beloved pooches. We love how all day play is included and love being able to see them via photos on social media sites while we are away. The only downside side is the price is steep for 2 dogs sharing a room. This adds up quickly when you are gone for over a week. However, their price is also comparable to nearby boarding facilities. I wish they would accept titers, instead of having dogs over-vaccinated, this is the only other downside for me. I inquired about submitting titers instead of doing booster shots and none of the staff seemed to know what I was talking about. We may have to consider hiring a house sitter for future vacations. read more
