I live pretty close to the pub and we were just trying something new. Of course everything was great at first. My boyfriend and myself sat outside and ordered drinks and later ordered an app. Drinks and food were good for the right price to be honest. After it was getting dark out we went inside and started playing darts (its free). We played for a while and towards the end the bartender or owner (not sure) was upset because we were throwing the darts a little to fast and hard so he rudely came and just took the darts without any explanation and started pulling out tab. Basically kicking us out, I was so shocked at his attitude I don't know whether he had been drinking or what but you should be a little more professional and tell the customers why the hell you are acting that way. It has been over a year since I visited The Limerick Pub and since my last visit I have become a vegetarian. I was pleasantly surprised by the Vegetarian options--noted with a (V) on the menu--and especially the "Beyond Burger" sandwich which was absolutely delicious. There is also the "House Made Veggie Burger" which my partner thoroughly enjoyed. The "Limerick chips" were also very good! Since it was a beautiful evening we opted to eat outdoors and were waited on by Elijah, who was very knowledgeable about the menu, alcohol and status of the "Hakuna Matata Grill" opening across the street. We felt fortunate to eat outdoors because inside was loud (live band on Saturday night) and cold! I would not like to eat indoors with it being so chilly on a hot Summer evening and too loud but would definitely recommend the food as well as the "Jailbreak" amber ale! read more

The first time we went to Limerick was on a whim because we were curious... Whats up with the new Irish place right across the street from the Scottish place? What we found was a haven for my weary bones on even the most arduous days. The place is one of the few with Kilkenny on tap (if you're not familiar, find out a way to be), darts are always available, live music is almost as regular as the good service, and the rosemary mayo that's served with the chip is to DIE for. I don't live in Wheaton anymore but when I need to relax and share a pint, its the first on my list. PS- The Brown Bread Ice Cream is also a must have. Don't miss it! read more

Have been here a few times, be it for their Tuesday night trivia or just a local pint as there aren't too many options for a good local brew. First the good: Its nice inside and there is outdoor seating which is a great addition. The beer selection is pretty good too. Now the bad: Service here is always slow. Even when its quiet it seems to take too long to get a drink. The food is poor too. We once had potato croquettes which were an appetiser but managed to come out after the main meal as they forgot to make them. That's okay, it happens. But, when they were arrived they were frozen in the middle. This is pretty typical and why when I go now I don't order food. So in summary, beer good, food poor, service very slow. A real let down and why I go to Mcginty's in Silver Spring far more often. read more

We've been here a couple of times now, most recently for brunch. The food is really good; I've never been disappointed with it. There is a server though who seems completed befuddled every time we see him. He likes to hover around the table after he's taken the order or asks a question. Maybe it's just me.... The brunch menu is a nice addition. I appreciate the creamed chipped beef, even if it has an egg on top of it (it seems next to impossible to find a good plate of it down here). The home fries were also splendid; a nice crisp combination of butter and seasoning made me wanting alot more! Just note that they have a jazz band on Sundays. The bad part about this place is that it's really close to home which makes the urge to not go and order a big meal hard to resist. I've been there a handful of times and the first thing that comes to mind is how friendly the bartenders are there. They greet you, shake your hand and you feel very comfortable here. That's all I ask of any bar really. I've had a fair share of the menu and what sticks out to me oddly enough isn't something you'd expect to stick out at an Irish pub and that's their meatball sandwich. I really dug it. The two bacon BLT is pretty good to and the accompanying onion rings are nice and big. There is still a lot for me to tryout on their menu but what I've had so far has been very very good. Read some good reviews on the Limerick Pub's food so we decided to give it a shot. My GF was especially excited to try their vegan sausages. We walk in and the first thing we see is a sign that says "Seat Yourself." This is a big uh-oh to us as we have had extremely terrible experiences at other places that have this system (Quarry House in DTSS). We seat ourselves in the back and wait a good solid 5-7 minutes before any staff even glances at us. It takes the server another few minutes JUST to bring us food menus....then another several minutes just to bring us water. We are finally ready to order drinks/apps.............and wait another 10 minutes with absolutely no assistance. We get up and start heading out. I passed our "server" on the way out and told him we're leaving because we were just sitting there for over 15 minutes. His response? He shrugs his shoulders and says, "eh...sorry," as if he couldn't care less that he just lost business. Utterly disappointed, especially considering we had high hopes walking in. read more

Look, I get the Irish Pub thing. I have been going to them since I was a wee lad, and a few in ol' Erin, herself. Good service, interesting layout, took awhile for a server to get to us, yet when she did, it was spot on thereafter. What got me was the size of the beers. small glasses of ale, mostly for the Wee folk. Not for the likes of someone who reads books like "a Man and His Pint" These glasses are the Guinness style glasses, yet the small little baby ones. Whiskey? Twice the price of the Scottish pub 2 doors up the street. The dartboards had tables in front of them, so I am not really sure if those are every open. Would be nice if they were. We love this pub! The owner is salty and appropriately accented and can out curse me (which is an impressive accomplishment on its own). They have beers my husband likes and a cider on tap. We always get something to eat while we're there. All of the food has been awesome with only one exception. We are normally there for dinner or after dinner, but we've been once for breakfast. That's the exception to the awesome food, but only part of it. The only thing that doesn't get five stars is the eggs benedict. That only gets three stars. The potatoes that came with the eggs were incredible though. My husband's breakfast was perfect. I got a mimosa, which was good. Overall we are always happy here. For a Pub this place has great food. They alternate their food specials depending on the seasons. The owner is always around and very friendly, along with the staff. The good: The Limerick Pub is open when you want it to be open, they have decent beer on tap, and for the most part the staff and clientele are friendly people. They have a $5.00 burger special on Mondays, trivia on Tuesdays, and live music throughout the month. Oh, and they have a dart league. Yes, that is important. The bad: the layout and feel of the place is somewhat schizophrenic--it can't decide if it's a sports bar or a restaurant or what have you. It's hard to find a place in there to just hang out and have a drink if the bar is full. Everywhere else feels like you should be eating, paying your bill, and leaving. The proximity to a lot of new and cheap housing also attracts kids with fake IDs, weird after work covens, and other strangeness. All in all, though, not a bad spot to stop in and have a drink or a meal. The smokers hang out at the tables outside, and they seem like the cool kids. So try that if you're looking to be social. read more

I usually come to Limerick on Tuesdays for trivia. I used to go to Fire Station 1 but Limerick has much better food and better service. Parking is free at night in the lot across the street but if you come for trivia, make sure you get there early because the place is TINY! Service is alright. They seem to be perpetually understaffed and I understand that serving people who are doing trivia is tough but the wait staff could be a bit less surly. Prices are good and their liquor selection is vast but I'd like to see more craft beer on draft. Their food is better than most bar food and the onion rings are amazing! All in all, it's a good bar but I don't go there outside of trivia nights because it isn't much different than McGinty's or Quarry House nearby. read more

I haven't been back to the Limerick in months, but I realized while browsing that I have never written a review of this place... My husband and I are big fans of Irish pubs and restaurants, but the Limerick is one of our favorite close-to-home spots for one reason: Billy. In fact, all the bartenders [who have served us] have been fantastic, very friendly and engaging and our drinks never go dry, but there is just that bit of disappointment when Billy isn't there. The first time we ever went, maybe 6 months after they opened, Billy was our bartender. He was engaging, funny, and most importantly knew when my husband wanted another beer without having to ask. When he put down his glass to find it replaced within seconds, he turned to e and said, "I like him." Upon our first experience we decided that the food may not have been outstanding (it was GOOD, mind you, just nothing we'd be back for, whereas McGinty's has incredible food [now that they have Chef Nico], as does Brian Boru [Severna Park, too far from our home to go there regularly]), but the service had surpassed our expectations so much that that we knew we'd be back anyway. Apparently some people [parents who brought their children in] found our favorite bartender offensive a while back, which just shows their lack of a sense of humor, and their lack of comprehension of the fact that THIS IS A BAR. I don't understand what this trend is with families taking their young children into bars (once while we were at the Quarry House, a family with noisy young children sat near us and the waiter ultimately moved them to a back corner because other patrons were being bothered - and that's a DIVEY bar! I can almost see why The Limerick might food someone with it's bright colors, but why oh why did someone bring their children to a hole in the ground like QH?). Seriously, parents, stop it. Get a babysitter, or go to McDonald's, and let the grownups have their booze and hilarious imported bartender without your children's snotty noses and delicate ears being involved. We've been to Ireland, most of the bartenders we met had no hesitations about a cuss word or an adult joke, and no one is offended, because everything is meant with humor. In fact, when we returned from our trip to Dublin last fall, with Euros still in our wallets, The Limerick was the first place we went (where I bemoaned the fact that the Guinness just didn't taste as good). This would be a three star rating, the service pushes it to a 4, and I am going to give it a 5 because a vegan decided an Irish pub was the place to get food and I feel compelled to undo the damage. Here's a tip vegans: THE IRISH LOVE BEEF AND LAMB!!!!! I don't remember seeing a single "vegan option" on any menu out there, in fact. What were you thinking??? read more

Tried the limerick for a lunch with friends because our usual the nearby Royal mile was closed. A good choice because the draft beer was good and the fish and chips better than the RM. Plus more Inviting because more light than the gloomy RM and quiet,a good place for conversation. Have been back several times for lunch since and Initial impressions reconfirmed. One Of these days we'll try some of the other menu items but can say the fish and chips are great and the chocolate cake is wonderful. read more

I love the service here and the food is pretty decent. A lot classier than I would think (thought it would have had the stained glass pub vibe but it did not!) Why I did not give it 5 stars is because the menu will potato you out, which is great if you're really into potatoes and not so great if you don't want to pay 15 dollars for a pile of potatoes with some meat/fish on the side. I love the fact that they have vegan friendly options too because this is why we chose to visit this place because not a lot of places in Wheaton outside of Thai are vegan friendly. As my parents are from Limerick, Ireland, my husband and I were intrigued to find a pub named after the city when moving to this area from Los Angeles. This place is great. The decor is awesome (there was a Limerick road sign up that my parents have up in their house.) The food was also great. My husband got the fish and chips, and I got the shepard's pie. Both were excellent. We also liked how the beer selection. The amount of Irish beers that I haven't found in the states before was cool to see. read more

I live close to this pub and I have no considered it my "home bar" for several years. Food: Excellent! I am a vegan and it is VERY hard to find good hearty vegan meals at Iris pubs. Limerick is innovative and comes up with creative ways to put a vegan twist on old favorites. The fries are great too and they're my favorite fries around. Drinks: Awesome selection and the prices are pretty good, especially if you take advantage of the happy hour. They are also happy to mix you up something interesting if you're looking to try something new and fun. Vibe: I've always loved the staff.
