Rolls and deviled eggs with caviar
    Liz G.

Wow wow wow! It was incredible! Our table Of 4 started with the rolls and the deviled eggs with caviar. All were so delicious! For our entrees we all got a filet with the side waygu. OMG it was hard to have the 2 side by side. The filet would have been perfect on its own but adding the waygu was hard to top. The tender center with the perfect amount of salt on top was oh so good! Also, the "potato thing" is something I will dream about. Yummm! Run, don't walk here!

This is the kind of place you love you see in a neighborhood! It has a great date night vibe with amazing food. The owners greeted us when we entered and the staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was well portioned and delicious. I had the pork chop and it was perfectly cooked. Definitely checkout this steakhouse in South Windermere

Really nice new spot in Avondale. I'll be back for sure. Pretty much ate steak three ways, raw, torched; and seared. Filet was cooked perfectly rare. The mashed potatoes with chicken stock gravy was insanely good. Tartare was good but could use more flavor.

Great service! Best seat is at the bar with Beth and Dre. My favorites were the Ribeye and Mac N cheese! Oh so good. Lampchops were also amazing.

When I heard about The Lick, I immediately called my friends to plan dinner. I love that they take reservations directly rather than through an outside reservation agent. We arrived and were immediately seated for our reservation. They have really done a nice job with the decor and seating. While waiting for our friend to arrive, we ordered drinks. I ordered prosecco and was disappointed to learn they were out. However, they brought me the last little bit to enjoy on the house while deciding on another drink. (I hope this is an anomaly, because it seems having prosecco on hand makes sense:)) We started with Gigi's bread----wow!! Some of the best bread I have had in awhile. I had the steak-frites which was perfectly cooked and I enjoyed every bite. We tried the "potato thing" and were very disappointed. We heard good things, but it was basically layers of potato with a layer of cheese on top. If the cheese had been layered throughout, it would have been out of this world. For dessert; we had the peanut butter pie and key lime pie. If you are debating, go with the peanut butter pie. It was the best I have had. We really enjoyed our visit, but there were a few things we that kept this from being 5 star: 1) Ventilation: it is very, very Smoky and our clothes are still smelling like it. 2) Water refills were slow to come and service could have moved more quickly (we would have been done .5 hour earlier easily to make room for another table) I'm excited to see The Livk succeed and look forward to ret

Absolutely awesome staff and food. They seem to love what they do and make you feel very welcome. Make sure to make a reservation soon! A couple of new items on the menu every few months to keep you coming back to try something new. We sat at the bar.

I stopped in on a Tuesday to this new steakhouse in West Ashley while in a business trip. It's unassuming from the outside in a strip mall location but once you step in, they have made use of every inch including kitchen in view, lively bar, and adjacent dining tables. For a Tuesday, it was pretty busy and most tables and the bar were filled. Weekends would definitely require reservations. The hostess originally offered a bar seat but then realized the guests nearby were 2 cocktails in, and offered a table if I preferred a quiet dining experience over making immediate friends which I appreciated. Interior decor was well done and had a cozy upscale feel with nods to Charleston culture. I had the steak and frites which did not disappoint. Chris, the owner, introduced himself and checked on me as did the manager. If I had "The Lick" in my town, I would definitely be a regular. Wishing Chris continued success with this new dining experience in West Ashley.

West Ashley, listen up! We heard they opened on Saturday, we saw the menu on Sunday so we jumped right in and made a reservation for tonight. Allow me to introduce you to The Lick. The menu and the few photos we could find on socials got us in the door. Little did we know we were about to experience the neighborhood in restaurant form. We were enthusiastically greeted at the door by Chris, the proprietor of The Lick. As if he's known us his whole life, he welcomed us and expressed his gratitude for our presence. Warm and fuzzy feels right out of the gate. We were taken to a 2 top table that was wider than most restaurant 2 tops, so much so that our table butted up against another 2 top but we never felt like we were crammed in. Close enough to strike up conversation with our neighbors yet far enough away to have quiet conversation amongst ourselves. A refreshing design element that didn't go unnoticed. The food is neighborhood good eats....a place where you can slip in and have a great steak or perfect piece of fish or chicken, some fun starters, and homey sides. We had: Deviled Eggs with Jalepeño Bacon Jam Kale Salad with Shaved Red Cabbage, roasted Squash, Carmelized Apple, Fennel, Feta, Sunflower Seed Crumble and Maple Fig Vinaigrette Le Bilboquet- Joyce Farms Chicken, Warm Spices, Beef Tallow Fries, and Greens Steak and Frittes- Ribeye with Sauce Au Poive, Beef Tallow Fries, and Garlic Aioli. Peanut Butter Pie On day 2 of business, the food came out fast and well executed. Chris checked in with us and all of his guests throughout the meal, making us feel right at home. We need food to live, but we need the kind of hospitality that they're dishing out at The Lick to live well. Bravo Chris and your lovely wife Alex and thank you for loving West Ashley enough to bring the community your vision for a neighborhood gathering place.

The food and service here was very good. It's a squeeze so even for the bar seating you will have to set a reservation, but it was worth it and I would definitely go back. The owner was very nice. She checked on me and my friend multiple times just to make sure we were comfortable and she even adjusted where I was seating so I could see the college basketball game easier without me even asking it was just something she suggested the food and drinks were on point

We were so excited to try this neighborhood spot and it did NOT disappoint. From the food, to the environment and the staff - everything was top notch. We enjoyed everything we ordered - they were thoughtful and gave us the deviled eggs as a complimentary app and that bacon jam was to die for ... had to stop ourselves from licking the plate. The bread was a fluffy pillow with sweet and salty and tasted like heaven. The shrimp and grits were maybe the best I've had in a long time - there is magic in that gravy. The potato thing... is like if a there was a croissant made out of potato's in the best way. The service was so quick and we felt very taken care of the whole time. We finished with the key lime pie and had to stop ourselves from ordering another to go - executed to perfection. Welcome to West Ashley The Lick! We are very very happy to have you and will be back!

Brussel Sprouts side with Dijon, parmesan, and chives

Some restaurants get hype when they open -- The Lick actually earns it. After weeks of trying to get a reservation at The Lick, we finally got in -- and it absolutely lived up to the buzz. What followed was one of those perfect Charleston evenings where great food, great people, and a lively dining room come together. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was spot-on. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Chris and his wife Alex, who were both warm, welcoming, and clearly invested in the guest experience. Our server was fantastic -- friendly, funny, and knowledgeable -- and the support staff kept everything moving smoothly. This visit was a Daddy-Daughter date night, and the goal was simple: great food and great conversation. The Lick delivered beautifully. We started with the Wagyu Bites, served over a crisp potato rosti with truffle aioli. They were incredible -- melt-in-your-mouth tender with rich flavor and perfect balance. Next came Gigi's Bread, a warm pull-apart bread served with sea-salt honey butter (and named after the owners' Boykin Spaniel). It's exactly the kind of indulgent, buttery bread service that makes you instantly glad you ordered it. Trying to add something "healthy," we ordered the Baby Lettuce Salad, which was beautifully simple -- Boston lettuce, fine herbs, shallot, and a bright red wine vinaigrette. The star of the meal was the 14 oz Margaret Farms Wagyu Ribeye, sliced to share and cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was grilled with gorgeous char and packed with flavor while still incredibly tender. Alongside it we had the Brussels Sprouts with parmesan and Dijon, which were crisp, savory, and a great match for the steak. We didn't have room for dessert -- which just means we'll have to come back. The atmosphere feels like a high-end version of your neighborhood gathering spot. We ran into several friends and ended up chatting with nearby tables -- something that made the evening feel even more special. If I had to give one minor note, the room gets lively when it fills up, which can make quieter conversations a little harder to hear. But honestly, that energy is part of the charm. A fantastic addition to West Ashley -- great food, great people, and a place that already feels like part of the neighborhood.

For my main course, I ordered the pecan-crusted chicken with a side of Brussels sprouts, and wow. Phenomenal. Huge portions, incredible flavor, and we were all stuffed by the end. Amazing service, amazing food, and an overall great experience. I cannot wait to come back again. This is officially a go-to spot for celebrations.

The waitress was just okay, but the bigger issue was the quality of the dishes. We ordered calamari, fried green tomatoes, and mussels everything tasted like standard frozen, pre-prepared food. The fried flounder had almost no seasoning which is surprising for fried fish. The cheese grits were disappointing, with cheese that wasn't even fully melted, and the collard greens were overly heavy with pork fat. Drinks were watered down. I was torn between ordering a classic burger or trying a BBQ mac and cheese wrap. Oddly enough, the wrap isn't listed on their website, so I can't recall the exact name, but it sounded intriguing and I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I ordered the wrap with a side of lemon and feta Brussels sprouts. One of my friends ordered the same side, and another friend at the table did as well. Unfortunately, when my food arrived, my Brussels sprouts were extremely salty to the point where I couldn't eat them. I normally love salty, savory food, so this was disappointing enough that I ended up sending them back, which I hate doing. What made it more frustrating was that my friend's Brussels sprouts were perfectly fine, and another person at the table also had no issues. It honestly felt like mine may have been oversalted by mistake. The service overall was mediocre, and before the game had even ended, staff began hovering around our table and mopping nearby, clearly signaling that they wanted us to leave. This felt awkward and unnecessary, especially since the downstairs area was still fairly busy. Overall, it could have been a much better experience.

The view here is beautiful, but unfortunately the food doesn't live up to it. While the scenery is definitely the highlight, the meals felt mediocre for the price. I ordered the ribeye, which is one of the most expensive items on the menu. It arrived overcooked to medium/well (I ordered it medium) and was surprisingly thin for a ribeye, maybe about a half inch at most. I was prepared to just keep it, but our waitress encouraged me to send it back. Saying you are paying for a good meal and we want you to be happy. Our waitress was training a new employee and doing a wonderful job so I thought this might be helpful for training. So I agreed. When the replacement steak came out, it unfortunately had the same issues. It was again overcooked, the edges were heavily charred to the point they weren't edible, and it was over-salted. The cut of meat itself was horrible as if they purposely picked the worst steak to resend. At that point I decided not to complain again, but I wasn't able to eat it. Our waitress (not the trainee) asked if we needed a refill of our water which I did. When she filled my glass she said "anything for you princess, since we messed up your order" regardless if it was meant derogatory or not that is not something you say to a customer under your breath. Overall, no one at our table was impressed with their meals and could not finish or didn't like them which was disappointing given the prices and the otherwise great setting. Don't get me wrong, I pay for good food. The view is worth mentioning, but the food didn't match the experience we were hoping for.
