After hopping around several 6th street bars, I really wanted to just sit down. (6th street bars don't believe in ample seating.) My boyfriend and I stumbled into The Library and were relieved to see dozens of open bar stools on the 2nd floor balcony. There's also a few pool tables up here. The tap selection was small, but I enjoyed the local "Austin Amber". There were 4-5 huge flat screens that would be great during a game. Well, like all bars on 6th, it's all going to depend on when you go, but as far as 6th St. bars go, this one's okay. The decor is pretty cool, although I'm not sure why there would be an old bicycle on the wall of a library. But like many things (in bars), this probably makes more sense when you are drunk - which in turn can happen cheaply and easily at the Library. In all fairness, this should be 3.5 stars, if I am to be consistent in my 6th St. bar rankings, but I'm doing the best I can. read more

This is probably my favorite bar due to the bartender that works the back bar on friday nights. (wow that was a lot of "bars" in one sentence) anyway, She was really sweet and smoking hot! $3 LI Iced teas. cannot beat that. At most bars, you're going to have waiting issues from time to time. If you're an average downtown party-er, i would advise you to come to this bar around 1am when it gets a little less crowded and everyone goes to the dt hotspots for power hour. The Long Islands are the only reason to come here. Other than that theres all these cholo/thug types around the front. We always head to the back. **There is a $10 minimum on cards so beware when you order. I used to come here much more frequently since I LOVED the back bartender Lauren. She was amazing, cute, and always made the place a ton of fun. However, since she's left I'm not as big a fan. She's now working at Imperia/Cuba Libre/ and Speakeasy. This was the first bar we went to when we arrived in town. It was overflowing with cock and it was impossible to move or get a drink. On the positive note everyone person inside was super friendly and we ended up having randoms buy our drinks the whole time we were here (probably about two hrs). First of all, I'm not from Austin, and I had a great time every where I went while I was there, so my review may be skewed. I was in Austin last summer for a national volleyball tournament that also coincided with an awesome motorcycle festival. I went with the team to this bar twice and we had a rockin' time. We made some local friends and probably paid the bartender's rent for the next month. I love the fat tire bike that hangs from behind the bar. I like this bar. It has character, and always plays great hits. The bar is always pretty lively. It does tend to get crowded. The library bar offers a bar upstairs as well where you can get cheap 3 dollar long islands. They're pretty tasty. The bearded bartender pours four different bottles of liquor into your glass until the 3/4 mark of your glass. It's a pretty awesome deal and as well a pretty mind erasing drink. The service here is horrible! I waited about 20 minutes and didn't get served so I left. All of friends later that night complained and said the same thing happened to them! This place used to be fun but now is just overcrowded and you won't get drinks anyway. They used to have these awesome paddleboard shots too and now they don't have them anymore. I guess not being a local you tend to enjoy places like this a little more. I found that the Library almost had that 'dive bar' feel with its cheap drinks and packed house. Pro: The drinks are cheap, there is less of a line most of the time if you go to the back or upstairs bar. Its a college scene meaning you don't have to be very dressed up to get in. Good place to start the night. Con: The cheap drinks makes this place very packed sometimes. Music is the top 40 stuff + music videos. read more

The Library is a pretty cool place to go for drinks on 6th Street. After all, you cannot beat their prices...$1 domestic and $2 import beers! Really, you just cannot go wrong with prices like that. Now...I do not expect this place to be like a bar at the Four Seasons...but, they could clean up the place a little bit. It had a strange smell upstairs and the bathroom looked like a scene from a horror movie. As for music...I wish they had live music. This is the spot I usually start the night off.. The Library usually has great drink specials. Long Island Ice Teas are the specialty, and I usually two fist it on $2.50 nights. They also have $1 beer specials on other nights. The Library is also frequented by Liquor Reps who pass out free booze & liquor related promo stuff like shirts & shot glasses. The bartenders are pretty good here as well.. Definitely worth a stop for cheap drinks & a couple games of pool / air hockey with friends to start out the night. read more

Grade A place to hang out! Me and a buddy stopped in for the first time last night and grabbed some $2 Millers from the bar. The downstairs is plenty of room to hang out and enjoy yourself, and I do have to say that the decor is really in line with the name and if you drown out the people and music, this place can make you feel a little intellectual. The upstairs is huge as well. There are a few pool tables in the back, and there is a lot of seating that gives a good view of 6th Street. The music was OFF THE CHAIN! The videos were a good mix of new and old school (It switched from Lady Gaga Alehandro to Gin and Juice and people went crazy LOL). Went on a Thursday around 5:45pm and the place was fairly empty. Since it was a Thursday, my beer was $1. My friend's beer was $2. AWESOME. Came here on a Weds. night after pub trivia at B.D. Riley's. We were drawn in by the $1 cans of PBR (it was White Trash Wednesdays)...what's not to like about that?? SO sad compared to what it used to be. When I lived here before, about 15 years ago (a long time, I know, but so what?), the place really looked like a library. It had shelves full of books on all the walls and it was so awesome and unique. For some reason they decided to get rid of all that and gut it out and make it look like the most generic, warehouse-like bar ever. One cool thing, though: it has skee-ball. I love playing skee-ball. Now while I'm sure this place is packed with mostly undergrads during the weekend, the beginning of the week has a different vibe IMO. It does draw an older crowd, late 20s and up, with some youngins in the mix. It gets busy, but not insanely packed that one would feel like a sardine. Plus if you get in early enough, the bartenders are pretty cool to chat it up with, or pull up a seat for whatever game is goin on. And if you happen to grab one of the tables by the entrance, be prepared for some interesting people watching. This past Monday included an appearance of some lady who looked to be in her 30s, wearing a thin white tshirt, and panties over her jeans and she was standing outside. Well Little Missy decided to get all rowdy with people passing by randomly would scream and flash her rocks in a sock and jump up and down. I went here on a Friday night around 10 or 10:30pm. It was the first bar we went to that night, solely for the reason that it was the bar with the most people in it at the time on 6th Street so we figured it must be alright. There weren't many people there at first but the crowd quickly picked up a little. Drinks were cheap! The bar is dark and there are books all over the wall (at least that's what I could tell - it was really dark!). I'd totally go here again for cheap drinks.
