If you're looking for a true sons of anarchy type hangout this is it. I don't mean only bikers, but it is so everything you would expect out of a dive bar incorporating almost every meme you could imagine that it is super fun. Karaoke done both poorly and well, blonde bartender ladies who bump each other's butts, people hanging out outside smoking telling their life story. I'm not snobbing it up in describing this joint. It beats the pretentious douchey hipster places I wouldn't even go once to where I used to live. I'm not even a real 'bar person' but I was curious. It's not really a sit down and be quiet type bar and sometimes there aren't enough seats but the people working there were nice and everyone seemed to be having a good time but in a rowdy good-time way, not in a gonna-fight-someone-is-going-to-get-stabbed-any-minute type way. Best dive bar in town...and the only one open late. Just one drink you say? Never. You will almost always close out the bar. And even though you regret it in the morning, you always find yourself saying next week, "Just for one drink..." There was an issue with my wife's service dog. I took the dog back outside and it was no longer an issue. My wife was still refused service. Had I personally witnessed the conversation this place could be facing suit. Most patrons won't care, but the old lady bartender should be more educated and considerate and exhibit some tact and good judgement on these situations. read more

Great local dive bar! Cheap drinks, good selection, lots of colorful locals. Very interesting snatches of conversation to be overheard. We stop here to and from snowboarding sometimes and it always provides a great little break. Supposedly it's haunted. read more

Stopped here again on our way to Tahoe as a pit stop . I love dive bars & I love Placerville. However, nothing's changed . Rudest bartender ever! Horrible service, even worse Bloody Mary . I'm so done with this place. It's a joke & does no justice for such a cool town. I heard the owner inherited it & doesn't give a crap . What a shame. I did meet a cool regular there who told me this , not sure if it's true or not. He suggested we go to Poor Reds next time . It's a lil off the path but supposedly well worth it. Pretty sad when your own regulars know how bad it is & refers you to another bar . He also felt bad & bought me a drink because he saw how rudely we were treated. A party of 9 of us . We would of dropped a good $100 or more but left quickly only spending $28 lol read more

Friendly staff, strong drinks, and a good mix of locals and folks passing through. Anytime I'm in placerville stopping here is a given! If you like dive bars you can't beat the Bench. read more

Locals bar; Everything you'd expect from a place where people from Placerville hang out. I always liked this place, but it's quickly become one of my favorites after I heard the story about when two locals, Thomas Kinkade and Conrad Montgomery, got into a scrap over a woman named Adele in 1994. Ask around, apparently it's quite a well known tale amongst the patrons. read more

If you're a somewhat attractive female, don't go to this bar. The women will snuff you and the female locals/bartender's won't serve you. Being nice won't help you either. It's very clicky. Local girls go behind the bar and make their own drinks and if they don't like you you're out. I just moved here and I can see that there are plenty of other nice bars around here. So with that being said, don't expect to see any pretty girls here. They're not allowed. read more

First and last visit at this establishment for me. Bartender was good but the blonde owner was extemely rude when interacting with paying customers. I had been there for 3 hours and already been ID'd twice when she storms over and rudly demanded all of our ID's for the third time (at this point just playing pool). This is exactly what you are looking for in a dive bar. Beer in Mason jars, pool, and good music.

The one star is too much. We are a group of 12 consisting of family and friends that gets together every year to celebrate the Christmas holiday. This year, as well as last year, we met in Placerville. Last year, all of us went to the Liar's Bench which was across the street from where we were staying, as we were told the Bloody Mary's were good. When we entered the bar, the bar tender (owner?) was grumpy and barely spoke a word to us. It appeared to be a chore to make drinks for us. Thinking that it was just a bad day, all of us went in there again this year. There was a lady sitting at the bar who said, when she saw us. "oh brother". The same bar tender (owner?) literally turned his back on us. We all went walked out. (If I had the business, if 12 people walked in l would have bent over backwards to greet them.) This place is nothing more than a glorified biker's bar. There are much better places to go. All of us went to the California Kitchen which was almost next door. The Bloody Mary's were better. If you are a biker type, then this is an excellent place to go. If you are not then I would go elsewhere. read more

Wish I could give 0.. the woman working. Whine the bar started pounding on the bathroom door while I was using the restroom and screaming for me to come out.. when I came out she grabbed me and said get out and drug me by my arm and threw me out.. not sure if she was mistaken me for someone else but I had never been here and basically got attacked and thrown out while going to the bathroom.. for absolutely no reason. When I asked why and the whole bar started saying why are u throwing her out what's going on!?!? She had no reason and just said I can't be there.. I'm a pretty blonde girl so the only reason I can think is she hates good looking girls... it was the worst experience I've had at a bar because of the people working there... worst bartender I have ever met. This was about 6 months ago or maybe more but I just got yelp and still think of this horrible experience often since I live down the street from the place. Hopefully the horrible lady is fired by now but obviously I haven't gone back to find out. read more

if you want a small bar that has good bartenders, reasonably priced drinks and a friendly atmosphere try the liar's bench. certainly not fancy - no food unless you want a bag of chips but very comfortable. pool table and darts available. smoking outside in the back. read more
