Vanessa is the only bar tender in Hangtown that can serve a good Mai Tai! Ambiance is super casual. So show up in your pajamas if you want. Nobody cares. It's the best part about this place! Anything goes!

Awesome dive bar. Great staff and the locals were very welcoming. Happened to stay in town last night and it was just across the street. Drink prices were awesome. Bartender even made an awesome custom drink for me. Nick named "bull$hit". Hahaha.

Lori and her staff were very welcoming to us into what seemed like a "locals" dive bar. Nice place good drinks and inexpensive games they have darts and pool and plenty of bar space as well as tables to sit and talk.

One week ago tonight, I was here. The quintessential "dive bar," right in the heart of Northern California Gold Country. Placerville - aka "Old Hangtown." It's hard to leave a review for a dive bar. I mean, what are you going to say? it was a "dive." It was smoky. It was crowded. The bathrooms were gross. The drinks were strong. Well, let me tell you, that's exactly what I'm going to say! Ha, ha! My brother and I walked in after an eventful Thanksgiving with my 91 year-old grandmother, my uncles, and other extended family. We were ready for a couple of drinks, that's for sure! We knew this place would be rough around the edges, and we were right - It was perfect! No smoking inside, of course - everyone smoked outside the front door. Naturally, all the smoke came inside anyway. The place was crowded - we traded off the one single barstool that was vacant, but this was not a big deal. Sitting would have just made me tired! The bartender was super attentive, and took our order right away - we got a couple of Jack and Cokes, and they were no joke - super strong, thank you very much! The only real "negative" was after we ordered a second round (why not) - that's when the karaoke started. I don't normally mind karaoke, but this was ridiculously loud - we couldn't even have a conversation without screaming at each other! To make matters worse, the people singing were phenomenally bad. I mean, they stank! We chugged our drinks, and were out of there! Too bad, as we were really enjoying our time! So, if you're in the area and want to experience a true dive bar, intoxicated locals and all, this is it! Oh, and by the way.....the bathrooms were super-gross. I was tempted to burn my shoes after leaving!

What a surprising and disturbing experience from the owner and staff. We came into celebrate a birthday after a long hard days work and rather than a welcoming atmosphere I was immediately targeted by the owner. She demanded my ID, which I supplied, then determined it wasn't good enough for her. She then demanded a second form of identification. Claimed she didn't believe I was as old as I claimed lol. She was the rudest "service professional" I've come across in a long time. Typically this area is a great place and the people are friendly. However, I will NEVER recommend this specific dive discrimination bar to anyone in my life. I'm sad I had to give it 1 start because it deserves nothing. This woman ruined my friends birthday.

Attentive bartender, good drinks, music on the jukebox, open late...your typical dive bar. We'll be back!

This is exactly what you are looking for in a dive bar. Beer in Mason jars, pool, and good music.

Security checked our IDs at the door, and once we walked in, the bar area was packed. Luckily, there were reserved booths nobody was using and my girl, and I sat there since the main bar was crowded. It actually worked out perfect for us. It gave us space to sit, relax, and have a good conversation without feeling cramped. We ordered a couple of colorful drinks that were nicely balanced and flavorful, not too overpowering, and easy to enjoy. The music was hip-hop which is right up my alley, so the vibe was definitely on point. What really stood out was the atmosphere. I've never been in a bar quite like this where jellyfish were hanging from the ceiling, and a whole underwater theme. I was told a mermaid appears over the bar at certain times, but sadly, I didn't get to see her this visit. Overall, it was a great spot to end the night after the movie. Good drinks, good music, and a unique sea-themed vibe. If I return, I will hope to see a mermaid

The bar tenders have horrible customer service even when the bar isn't busy. It seems like they rather hang out and chat with regulars and friends than serve paying customers. The security guards we're blatantly discriminating against my friend for no good reason. Also, security apparently accepts bribes at the front door to let people in, so much for safety. The drinks were in my opinion overpriced and didn't taste good. Maybe I'm biased because my whole experience here put a complete sour taste in my mouth. Then, to top it all off my friends and I were being harassed by two patrons who had clearly been overserved the entire time we were there. We had no choice but to leave and we will never be back again! After visiting I wanted to leave a review because I felt other people should steer clear. To my surprise, I read reviews here that mentioned almost the exact experience we had. So, this is not an isolated incident and Dive Bar has not taken our comments into consideration. Disclaimer: I did not have this experience, but it was very disheartening to see all the reviews, tik toks, reels, etc. I found after visiting Dive Bar in which women and men are claiming to have been roofied. This may or may not be true, but it can't be a coincidence this many people have had the same experience. There needs to be an investigation into this bar. I myself will be placing a call to the BBB and I hope that anyone who has had that experience feels empowered to speak to the authorities.

It was creamy, vibrant and chilly. Red's appears to specialize in blended ice cocktails. I also tried the Grasshopper which walks perfectly minty, creamy and sweet. For food I tried the flank steak sliders and the coleslaw. The coleslaw was notable with a touch of paprika on top that was different and a good contrast to the sweet drinks. The sliders could be better. They came out piping hot on a series of Hawaiian rolls. The steam from the meat dissolves the buns a bit so it was more of a knife and fork situation. The dried crispy onions were a nice touch. Excellent service from both bartenders and friendly conversation with the locals who frequent the bar. Overall, I'd highly recommend, especially fo the historical aspect. The building was constructed in the 1800s and originally served as a Wells Fargo weighing station before being converted to a bar.

Unfortunately, something has changed in the kitchen and noticebly different after our last 3 visits. Burgers appear to be frozen and possibly grilled over wood as advertised and DEFINATELY over- seasoned and salted. Still lack natural flavor, smoke and overcooked regardless of preferance . Also ribs are dry and reheated. I would not reccomend either entry! Something positive, service and golden cadilacs are good. Please get your kitchen in order and be great again
