Came to Old Folsom on Mother's Day because the moms and kids needed a bathroom break, and Myron convinced us to stay for food. I had no idea they offered brunch, but honestly, this place has one of the best brunch menus in Sac county. Tim was an amazing server, the kids had a blast on the back patio, and the entire experience was fantastic. Having worked in the service industry before, I know Mother's Day is one of the busiest days of the year, so it was impressive how well everything was handled. Dale was the cook and everything we ate was amazing. Mac and cheese brisket was probably the best Mac and cheese I've had in a restaurant. Chicken and waffles, fire. Loco moco perfections. I honestly can't believe more people don't know they do brunch here because it was absolutely worth every penny. Great food, great atmosphere, and a full bar too. Let's start by saying most of the staff here are RUDE and act as they are better than you! The people at the entrance are stuck up and make you feel stupid for no reason! They should be happy they have a job and should take a customer service class or two. The bartenders look unhappy, stressed and frustrated. The drink I ordered was watered down and not very good. Now let me tell you about the DJ and the awesome music he played! He was so good! Mind you the people dancing in the club pretty much made every song a line dance lol. It was cool to be around all these fun loving patrons having fun, enjoying themselves and having a really nice place to just hang out and dance. I did appreciate having the security staff there. They're very nice and respectful and they are pretty much the only ones that made this place feel acceptable.. kudos to the security I would love to return soon, and hopefully most of the staff will be in a better mood and make you feel more welcomed! read more

Went in for some life music on a Sunday night and met friends for dinner before the show. The place is pretty classic with taxidermy of all sorts and a somewhat upscale yet historic feel. The bartender was nice enough but slow as molasses, but was just about always smiling. The food, BBQ flare forward, was tasty. Hubby got the smashburger and it was good. I got the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on it. Tasted even better once I added some of the housemade BBQ sauce. Really good chonky fries. And super fun music. We'll be back! read more

I've been here a few times now usually after having already been to Scarlets/Powerhouse across the street and wanting to continue the night. The experience you'll get is truly up to so many factors. The times my friends and I have came have been on Friday/Saturday nights and the place is packed. It's a $20 cover to get in, they do have an ATM machine you can use. It's packed both inside and outside, you'll wait 15 mins to use the bathroom and will have people hanging on the door for you to get out the whole time, and it'll be hot inside! This isn't a bad bar, it's divey and feels like it's for college kids and middle aged couples. The music has been ok, but if you can find an area to hang out with your friends in the back I'd suggest that! This definitely seems like the place to go with friends if you want to drink and socialize the night away. Haven't tried any of the food, the drinks are fine. read more

We met the artist, interacted with him because we were 6 feet from the stage. We ate dinner here and it was really good. We read that the smash burgers here were delicious so we popped in for lunch and my 35 year old son said it was the best tasting burger he has ever eaten! A new restaurant owner and chef has taken over and is now making this historic hotel's new menu filled with delicious smoked goodness and breakfast choices 7 days a week. The bar area is the authentic saloon style with a great selection of spirits- I had the best margarita on the rocks, that I've had in years! They have live music on weekends and a backyard style patio for dining as weather permits. Friendly and great service. This is a "must go to" in this beautiful old town of Folsom on Sutter. And a free parking lot close by. We're definitely looking forward to coming back soon. read more

Ordered the Smashburger for him, the shredded pork tacos with spicy bbq sauce for me, and shared the smoked mac with brisket. The pulled pork tacos featured tender chunks of smoked pork, pickled red onions, and coleslaw in a warm tortilla. Ask for an extra side of bbq sauce. You'll be glad you did. Finally, dig into the smoked mac and cheese topped with brisket. The green onions add a subtle freshness to the otherwise creamy cheesey combo. I really wanted to like the Folsom Hotel, especially given its historic charm, but the experience is consistently disappointing. The staff always seem unhappy to be there--service feels rushed, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. Even when the place is nearly empty (I'm talking 4:30 in the afternoon), they're out of basic drink ingredients like limes, oranges, and cherries for Old Fashioneds, not to mention short on glassware and even ice. I've actually been asked to reuse the same glass or the same "big rock" ice cube for my next drink... seriously? It makes me wonder who's running the place that these basic supplies aren't stocked before opening. This isn't just a one-off; I've noticed the same issues over and over again, and to think that this place is under the same ownership as Goldfield's in Sacramento and Roseville. What really crosses the line is the band cover charge policy. On multiple occasions, I've come in at 5 PM to have a couple of drinks--spending nearly $100 between two people--only to be told by 7 PM that I need to pay a $25 cover per person to stay, even if I'm not there for the band. On a Sunday evening, no less. That's not just bad customer service; it's downright tacky. If you want to win back customers, here's a suggestion: * Stock your bar before opening so basic supplies are never an issue. * Train staff to engage warmly--attitude matters. * Offer a grace period for patrons who came in earlier and have already spent good money. Maybe stamp their hand or give a drink tab minimum that counts toward the cover. The Folsom Hotel could be a fantastic spot with its location and history, but until there's a major shift in how it's managed, it's hard to recommend. read more

We just came for an after farmers market cocktail and some live music. The guitarist played popular songs that you could sing along to. Drink prices are reasonable. It's self seating. Normally I sit at the bar but there were 3 of us so we grabbed a table. They have a nice patio and allow dogs. Burgers looked good but we didn't eat. read more

The garlic fries were an extra $3, but they were also yummy-- beer battered fries are the way to go Drinks are reasonably priced- $8 for a beer, $12 Long Island ice tea We went because there's trivia night on Tuesdays at 7 and it wasn't very busy! Plenty of parking. Only downside is there wasn't any AC, so it was pretty warm. There was a slight breeze with the doors open, but I imagine it would be very hot in the summer. Tacos, we tried the pork, were well worth coming back for, don't think Mexican authentic which is wonderful, but think pulled pork with a BBQ sauce that hints chipotle. She made sure my whole group was having a great time from start to finish. On top of that she makes an excellent cosmopolitan which is honestly hard to come by at this bar. Tim the bartender was atrocious!!! The ladies behind the bar were on point and catered to our party that was there with our band who was headlining. However, when the entire bar staff turned over the pours were half the amount they were earlier in the evening and we could no longer even get water with our drinks. Tim told us we would basically have to go outside to get water and it was pouring down rain all the while we were drinking $50 pours of bourbon and so many other craft cocktails. From 6:30 to 9pm the staff was amazing and drinks were perfect (i travel the globe in search of great cocktails) After that Tim was serving us and it was horrible to the point we decided to go elsewhere once the band finished. Tim's horrible customer service and inability to make a simple margarita was disappointing to say the least. I hope ownership reads this and explains to Tim what it takes to run a bar. Nice lunch here. As it is in old town Sutter Street, we enjoyed the man dressed up as an old school sheriff. He visited us and chatted with us ad made us feel welcome. Burgers great. Live music was good. It was difficult to get a drink and order food at the bar. Regulars seemed to get faster service at the bar. Took off a star for that. DJ this most recent time played about 30 less than superior songs with many repeats throughout the night. In our three hour stay we heard the DJ use the "Damn son where'd you find this" button no less than 50 times. Obnoxious. Drinks are fairly expensive, and the location could use a busser or two to cleanup after its customers. Very dirty sticky floor with trash throughout the location. Bathrooms have a constant 20-30 minute wait Friday-Sunday, which is inexcusable for a location that sells alcohol. Two port-a-potty's out front would easily solve the issue. Have seen very violent fights occur at this location, but this most recent trip was one without altercation. We want to like this place as it has a great history and is one of the better spots for nightlife in the general area, but it needs some serious changes in the near future. Had a great date night here with my husband. We got there a little too late to get food but the bartender gave us some suggestions of where to go. We ended up eating across the street and came back. This bar has a lot of personality for sure. The mounted animals on the wall were pretty interesting. We were Google image searching the portraits on the bar wall and found a lot of the men were outlaws with some pretty interesting stories. The service was very friendly and the drinks were a great price. We stayed long enough for the place to turn into a club. Stopped in for a late lunch on a Tuesday. The service was great (one person served from the menu and bar) and she had the perfect amount of humor. I had the Dam Bleu burger, and my husband had the mac and cheese with the "special" sauce. Both delicious. And the French fries are true perfection! If I could give this review no stars I would.. On Sunday 4/30/2023 my boyfriend and I were leaving dinner at The Fat Rabbit on Sutter Street and decided to grab a drink and play the big Jenga at Folsom Hotel (a bar I usually love to spend my evenings at). We ordered a margarita each and proceeded outside to the courtyard area to play Jenga. After one game a group of Ukrainian students walked in and showed interest in learning how to play the game. All except one person in the group spoke English and it was still broken and he had trouble understanding us at times, however, we played a few games with them, teaching them to rules and just all around having a blast. After a few games, an off-the-clock employee named Anthony came outside and yelled at some of the Ukrainian students for "walking onto private property". He yelled, "Get off the private property or you can get the f**k out". I was not sure what he was referring to since all the students were in the courtyard area still, some might have wandered around just taking in the scenery and playing cornhole. My boyfriend and I tried to explain to him that they did not speak English and if he could use a more respectful approach that would be appreciated. He told my boyfriend and me that he "did not give a f**k and he doesn't need to be nice, that if we have a problem with it, we can get the f**k out". At this point my boyfriend and I were visibly upset; I decided to approach Anthony and again try to explain to him that the students don't speak English and we do not have a problem abiding by the rules. He told me he was "super drunk and that the men who work behind the bar are worse than him and will not be accepting of my boyfriend, me, and the group of students." Anthony and I talked calmly for about 5 minutes when my boyfriend decided to walk up and check in on me to ensure I was okay. The moment my boyfriend walked up and asked if I was okay and I said "Yes I was fine", Anthony sarcastically said to my boyfriend "Are you okay?" to which my boyfriend replied, "We are good". Anthony did not like my boyfriend's response and started yelling at me saying "If your boyfriend does not shut his smart-ass mouth, I will knock him the f**k out". I immediately realized nothing was going to get through to this employee named Anthony and we decided to leave the bar. I then filed a complaint with Folsom PD which my brother-in-law works for. I have NEVER been treated so poorly by an establishment before and was thoroughly embarrassed that this is how we treat foreign exchange students and regular customers. I also tried filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but the bar is not BBB accredited. So here I am filing a complaint via Yelp/Google. read more
