Great little hole in the wall tavern in old town Folsom. This place always finds great beers and has fantastic food! When you enter, just proceed to the back near the register. The menus will be near you - just make your food selection of food off the menu and select your beverage off the wall on your right! The Steakhouse Dip is my go too - along with an IPA which I usually ask the great staff to select. I tried the Urban Roots Juice Rush and I think is the best IPA I have ever had - give it a try. This one hurts to write because this has always been one of my favorite little old bars. I've been coming here for years and the Johnny Burger was always my go-to. Unfortunately, this last visit was a total bust. The burger was not the same flavor or quality it used to be. Not sure if there's a new cook or what changed, but it was disappointing for the first time ever. That said, I still love this place and the atmosphere -- it has such an old-school local charm. The atmosphere is awesome, the burgers are tasty and interesting, and there is enough variety and depth to the beer list to make anyone happy. I guess "atmosphere is awesome" is vague. The decor gives an old west vibe without cliche saddles and horns. The seating is perfect for visiting or dining alone, as I was. There was a group of girls hanging out, probably underage and definitely not drinking, and they were made welcome as if they were high spending regulars. VERY solid pub fare that sticks to your bones and warms your body and cold, wintry heart? Check, check, check. I've only been 3-4 times, and honestly that needs to change. This spot is so consistent and the burgers are outstanding every single time. I was surprised at how quickly the food came out of the kitchen, and the prices are well-aligned with what you get. I've been coming to Samuel Horner's Tavern for over a year, and the service and food quality hasn't change. I either order the Johnny Cash Burger with tator tos or the loco moco. You can't go wrong with either. The burger patty is good quality and they have the best tator tots! The drinks are also amazing! The bartenders know how to make all the classics old fashions, margaritas, and the gimlit. Which is one of my favorite drinks here. They're also known for their beers as well having a lot of local breweries on tap. Overall from the service to food, to drinks. Great pub bar/restaurant in downtown Folsom that has Trivia I think on Tuesday nights! Came here on a Saturday to celebrate a friends birthday in their outside patio and it's great for all ages and families. They have Pliny the Elder! And some really good eats, I got the special corn beef sandwich with their tots as a Side that are popular. They have tons of brews on top and good options to choose from burgers, salads, and sandwiches. There's street parking and some parking lots and a garage nearby. Service is great and quick! They're very Knowledgeable and they deliver your food and you can order take out. read more

Sam Hornes is one of my favorite places to stop into on Sutter St. Dark moody tavern lighting (my favorite!) with cozy speakeasy vibes. I normally just order drinks - they have a great selection of beer and cocktails. I recently tried the hangover tots to share with the table and they were excellent. Great portion and perfect for 2-4 people to share as an appetizer. No skimping on the topping ingredients either! Lots of gravy, cheese, and sausage. Yes please! Great spot for a casual night out. Briefly stopped by Samuel Horne's Tavern on a Thursday night to grab a drink. The tavern is small, with a cozy vibe, but it was not too crowded. I've been living in Folsom for about 3.5 years and I will openly admit this is my favorite place to get a burger. And their tater tots are delicious. Their fries could use salt but I never really order them. My sister got the nutcase burger with substituted onion straws and they were a great add. Sometimes this spot is super stuffy and it can be uncomfortable when sitting inside. There's limited seating so be prepared to share the skinny table top in the middle. read more

I am basing this on overall experience. This exudes the very definition of a hole-in-the-wall type establishment: not cramped, but "cozy." Behind the cashier is a beautiful wall of alcohol, but I focused on the innumerable amount of bourbons to choose from, that it took me a moment to choose. The gentleman who helped me was very sociable, not obnoxiously so, but genuinely, and he would drop a quick conversation when he dropped off food at other tables (to each table), and the woman (yes, in our brief lunch, we did not learn the staff names) was also quite friendly. I am going through some deep stuff, so I had a bourbon on the rocks (double) with lunch. Sue me, whatever....it hit the spot. I got the burger that has pepper jack cheese, bacon, and peanut butter on it. Messy as heck, but worth it. The patty itself tasted well made, was not dry, and too many burger places do NOT have peanut butter on their burger as an option, unfortunately. The fries were kind of non-descript, but they have ways to upgrade them. Quite satisfied with my meal (though I didn't eat but half of it.....when one is going through "stuff" (polite word), one's appetite comes and goes. I would say on its own, food is about three satisfying stars. With drinks, ambiance, and customer service, the overall experience was a solid four. I don't go to Folsom too often, and probably might not suggest this per se, but if someone wanted to go, I know I would have a good meal (and experience) read more

Based on reviews, I had added Samuel Hornes Tavern on my "to do" list. When we walked in, it's a bit dark, reflective of the tavern vibe. It was nice and cool inside and almost all tables were taken. We sat and waited not too long for a booth table to come open. This is a "sit yourself" establishment. The menu had several yummy described options. I had the steakhouse dip which is similar take to a french-dip. This was shaved sirloin topped with blue cheese crumbles , onion rings and a garlic aioli sauce served on a hoagie. It was tender and flavorful! This would have been something my husband would have devoured! I chose the "tots" as a side and they were also cooked perfectly! They weren't soft they were crispy outside and hot center... Not greasy... I'm a "salt" lover and these were perfectly seasoned to where I didn't need to add additional seasoning. My friend got the Tavern Chicken sandwich. She loved her choice as well... cooked perfectly! We sat and chatted awhile, enjoyed catching up while enjoying good company and good food. How many service errors can be made within a span of only a few minutes? We found out. Went in last weekend. The bartender/server was VERY preoccupied with people whom she knew. Not once but TWICE during the few seconds it was taking me to place a beer order she interrupted me while speaking to yell loudly at a friend of hers coming through the door. I ordered a beer and a cocktail for me and my wife. I was given the wrong beer. I then wanted to ask a question of a different serve who was at a table next to mine. I sorta flagged her down, yet she continued talking to the gentleman next to me for 10 MINUTES and never came my way. We then went back up to the bar to order some food. After a while we noticed several who had ordered after us had received their food. My wife went up to check, and she never placed our order!!!!!!!!!!!! I went back up to pay my tab, then she begrudgingly without any sort of apology or even an indication that they might not have been on their game with us, informed us that our beer and cocktail had been comp'd. Still one of the best spots in downtown Folsom. The hours are a bit limited but the food and drink selection are so good! The steakhouse dip is one of my absolute favorite sandwiches and every burger I have ordered has been cooked to perfection! I love the fact that you can do either fries or tots and load them up with the different toppings. The ranch is also tasty! This is a great little Tavern in Historical Folsom on Sutter Street. They are known for the Johnny Cash burger and tater tot's. The burger was cooked perfectly a little pink in the middle with an excellent BBQ sauce and great seasonings....yes the Tater tot's were very delicious too. The Johnny Cash burger had two strips of bacon piled on top, cheddar cheese, onion straws with a delicious barbecue sauce. The salad was was also very good with Spinach, candied pecans, cranberries and blue cheese with a sweet and sour dressing. The prices are very reasonable, service was outstanding and parking is on street or in parking garage. The beer was super lousy but the place had been too busy to ask the bartender for suggestions. It was super crowded, extremely noisy and they had some clown doing trivia night which made it even more so. My friends and I ate outside which was also noisy, thanks to Folsom's homecoming parade. First time visit. Quiet place for a late lunch. You order at the bar and they will bring your meal to the table. We were able to get our drinks quickly, and our meals arrived not soon afterwards.
