Wanting to meet new people, I joined Newcomers. I attended my First luncheon in October and was seated with other new members. People were very open to meeting each other. Later, A meeting conducted by some Of the board members, was held for new members to learn about the club. Happily, I met some Really fun ladies and we exchanged information and began to Meet On our own, as well as at group events. Less than a year later, I am looking forward to getting even more involved, and have even volunteered to serve on the board. I definitely Recommend this group To anyone who is new to the area, or who is looking to meet new friends and/or to participate in a variety of activities. Most of the women are older ( about 55-85), but there is a nice sense of camaraderie, and it is a pretty friendly Group that sponsors a wide range of activities that includes opportunities to Meet for Book clubs, card games, crafts, happy hour and lunch or outdoor events like golf dates, pickle ball, and a daily walking club.

This active group just raised $125,000.00 toward the upcoming exhibit at the Crocker Art Museum featuring works by Ruth Rippon. The group provides outreach to youth and seniors and sponsors a biennial fine craft exhibition. The annual Crocker Holiday Artisan Market (CHAM) is well known throughout the Sacramento area as a premier venue to shop for beautifully crafted works of art during the Thanksgiving weekend. Albert saw a banner hanging from Placerville's Main Street advertising a spaghetti dinner being held at the American Legion on the way driving to my house. Upon arriving at my house, Albert flatly stated, "We're going to eat spaghetti dinner~MY TREAT!" Ok, Albert-Let's Go! I drove my truck to the American Legion Post giving Albert time off from hauling from North Dakota to NorCal in about nine hours, non-stop driving . . . Oooof~My brother is such an outrageous, road warrior-he's INSANE IN THE BRAIN and he STILL wants eating spaghetti? Okay~Whatever, Dude! We enter the building which was packed with a plethora of people wearing American Legion hats, mounds of gifts stacked at every table, cramped tables filled with people stuffing their faces with all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, loud microphone blasting through fuzzy, inaudible speakers, strange flyers floating about the marijuana initiatives, the smell of spaghetti sauce, vinegar, and bread permeating the entire Post! Fat Kitty City Humane Society is amazing because it gives cats a second chance--and, for many, a…read moresanctuary to call home for as long as they need it. My story is about a cat who was dumped at a warehouse. FKCHS trapped the cat and provided needed medical care and placed the cat in foster care. When the cat was ready he was put up for adoption. That is where I met him. He is the sweetest little guy and is between 6-8 months old. I have had him 1 week and couldn't imagine life without him. This is just one story. There are so many more like this. The volunteers and staff are dedicated to providing the best for each cat in their care.

I have visited twice and adopted three cats from this sanctuary. It is a wonderful, clean and…read morecheerful place. I could just feel the good vibes and observe how much the staff and the volunteers cared and loved the cats. The person who runs it, Cindy, is an amazing woman who has dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for homeless and unwanted cats. She knows each one by name and can tell you each one's story and how they ended up at the sanctuary. It's a great non kill shelter where resident cats are free to roam while the new arrivals are kept for a period in an acclimatizing large area. We need more places like this in California!
