Looks unassuming but really good food. Locals love it so that says a lot. Very busy but was able to grab a few seats at the bar.

Quite simply the best restaurant in OBX and it's popular for a reason. Don't fear the wait time even in Summer, the staff are amazing and you can grab a drink from the bar whilst you're waiting for your table. Most of the tables are booths which can seat 6 people. There is also seating at the bar for about 15 people. Food wise, everything is good and extremely reasonably priced. Check out the specials which change daily. read more

KDG was recommended in a foodie group that I am in and it was 100% worth the wait! Their curbside service was impeccable and the food was incredible. Order EARLY because they get slammed. Their steak and cheese egg rolls were legit some of the MOST delicious things we've ever had and their wings were also on point. Perfectly grilled and flavor, they were simply amazing. We also got the crab cake dinner and it was really tasty which is surprising since I'm from Maryland originally. Beyond the awesome food, the customer service cannot be beat! We mistakenly thought that they left out one order of our egg rolls since we couldn't find the third one and the staff member we spoke with (Props to Julie!) personally texted me to make sure we found them. We forgot to order a kids burger for my son and she added them to our order without any additional wait or hassle at all. We could not recommend KDG more. Very good! This place looks small from the front with the little diner car facing the road, but it's actually just the bar that is housed in there. The restaurant itself extends back where there are plenty of tables and booths. Even so, there's usually a wait even during the week, so be prepared. We had a later dinner, and many of the specials listed on the chalkboard were already gone. They did still have a special drum fish (NCs state fish, which hub had never tried) with avocado mango salsa. I tried the shrimp on a bed of angel hair pasta with red sauce and Parmesan. Both entrees were brought quickly and were generous portions. The drum fish was fresh and light and so tasty with the salsa. The shrimp were also large and fresh and the perfect accompaniment to the pasta. We were stuffed, but being on vacation we splurged and ordered the strawberry shortcake for dessert. This was a huge serving, and the shortcake was a-ma-zing with the fresh whipped cream. This is a definite foodie stop when in the area! read more

Looked up best grills in the area and this place popped up as the best in Kill Devils Hill. The place is easily located, has plenty of parking and has a cool look throughout the inside eand outside of the establishment. Unfortunately, it was extremely loud and the food was subpar. When we walked in, we almost had to yell just to hear each other talk. The music was loud and the ambiance was even louder with everyone trying to talk over the next person. I had the Big Kahuna Burger and my wife had the spinach and artichoke chips and dip. My burger was undercooked and very greasy. I only ate about 1/4 of it before I gave up. The dip was decent, but it came out cold. The chips that comes with it was about the best thing on the table. Unfortunately, they needed a little salt and there was no salt to be found. Needless to say, it was a bit disappointing after seeing all the great reviews. On a side note, service was good and the food did come out quick. read more

The food was good and it would have been a very enjoyable experience but we had an uninvited guest in the form of a large cockroach that joined us at the end of our meals. Needless to say we left shortly afterward since we had finished our meal. Unfortunately the couple sitting directly behind were not as enthusiastic when the criter went to visit their booth. I've never seen an old jump up so fast and run to the manager. I guess you could say we got a free show too. read more

Friendly and accommodating staff. The chef messed up my order and they offered me a free soup or salad to enjoy while I waited for my food. Delicious!! We came down in the off-season (intentionally) and didn't realize that most things open back up in March. Oh well, the Kill Devil Grill was one of the places that was open and we were so glad we tried it! Love the diner in the front, but there is a bigger dining room, which explains all of the cars in the lot. The waiter/bartender, Dan, recommended the fried shrimp, which were truly the best I've ever had. The batter is flavorful, they aren't greasy, and even better with the remoulade sauce. My husband tried one of the specials: Alaskan halibut with mashed potatoes and a sweet and sour sauce. Good thing we like each other because we were definitely eating off if each other's plates. The halibut with sweet and sour was a combination I'd never heard of, but one that I would definitely order again. We need to get back for the homemade desserts and would make this a must-stop next time we're in the OBX. read more

The shrimp pasta was pretty good, my husband enjoyed the soft shell crab sandwich and my parents loved the wahoo fish and grits and rockfish chowder. Would definitely recommend this place. We are here on vacation and I chose this for my restaurant for the family to eat dinner one night. We were all very impressed all around! great service, amazing food, and an all around good vibe. Our waiter was Johnny and he was very nice and helpful. He offered his opinion on his favorite menu items, and also helped us with a question we had about an ingredient due to a food allergy. Our annual trip to OBX is simply not complete without a delightful meal from this incredible restaurant. Today we arrived for lunch about 20 minutes before they opened only to find another 20 people already in line ... and probably 10 others soon arrived behind us. Even though it was already quite busy, we were warmly greeted and prompted seated. Johnny was our server ..he offered suggestions, described in detail the creative specials offered today and just simply "took care of us" during our stay. Other staff members also were helpful and so super friendly. The food was absolutely wonderful ... the dessert equally memorable. The manager came around to check on us too ..... Truly a memorable visit..... cannot wait until I am able to visit OBX again cause Kill Devil Grill will DEFINITELY be on my list of MUSTS!! JUST GO and experience this gem!!!! read more

A friend and I stopped here for dinner after hiking, and now I have a new favorite place to eat. The food here was absolutely delicious, and all of the employees were friendly and helpful. Our orders came out fast, and they didn't bring our entrees until we were done with our appetizers, which is something a lot of other places forget is appropriate! This was our first time eating here. We arrived at 515 and sat down around 6. Worth the wait! I got the Cobia fish over grits. It was delicious! My husband ordered the fried chicken salad. The fried chicken was perfect. My daughters each loved their meals.. Kahuna burger, fried shrimp and grilled chicken with pasta. Our lunch entrees that day were better than any "higher-end" dinner entrees that week, and the kids were delighted by the kid's menu. We enjoyed the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Ambiance is equivalent to an older diner. Cricket was our waitress and she provided great service. My husband has been coming to this place for 10 years. The food and service was amazing. There was about an hour wait around 7pm on a Saturday but we're able to grab a bar seat within minutes. Definitely recommend bar seating as we chatted up the bartenders and met some others that were stopping by for a drink. Definitely get their Black and Blue lemonade that has muddle blackberries and blueberry vodka. For dinner, we got the cheesesteak egg rolls, Caesar salad, the fish catch of the day, and crab cake entree. Always get the fish special - grilled rockfish over cheesy grits, pico, and lime crema. The food was good and our waitress was the sweetest! I ordered the spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips for my appetizer. It was so good! The tortilla chips are homemade so they are warm whenever they arrive at your table, & they dash a little salt and pepper on the chips. Spinach dip was hot and full of flavor and cheesy just like how I like it. For my entree, I ordered the Caesar salad with grilled salmon and red onions added! I enjoyed it!
