Second year in a row here. Not quite 8:00 and busy. Only single seat left was a table for four in the bar. The bar is a railroad car--the restaurant is behind it. Interesting place. Seated anyway instead of having to wait. Bartender took drink order and delivered quickly. Amusing listening to the bartender talking to the two ladies next to me. They were not going to have a dessert but he gave a detailed description of the menu items including history of each. They are sharing a key lime pie. Salmon salad ordered and delivered. Service was good and friendly, the environment is gives small town diner vibes which is nice, but the food is a major issue for me. Went in itching for that seafood taste and left with it unscratched. The food was terribly bland, edible by all counts but about as flavorful as a glass of distilled water. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was their beer can shrimp, which wasn't really something to write home about. Maybe it was just an off day in the kitchen but with so many other great places surrounding with the same or better prices I can confidently say I won't be coming back. read more

I'm vacationing in OBX with my family this week & wanted to try some local places. I was totally surprised by how delicious this little roadside place was! First of all, the aesthetic is right up my alley. It looks like an old dining cart. When you walk in there's a full service bar that sinks down into the dining room. The servers were above & beyond. Every single person was polite & made sure everything at our table was great. We started with the blood orange margaritas, wings & shrimp. The wing sauce was fantastic & the flavor of the PBR shrimp was outstanding. I had the crab cake sandwich which was very yummy. My son had the fried flounder sandwich which he loved. My family and I were in the area for a small getaway and we stopped by this gem! They are doing a fantastic job during COVID. We were quoted a 20 minute wait and as we waited, we watched how thorough the employees were cleaning and enforcing social distancing and masks. Those on a wait outside were not allowed indoors unless accompanied by an employee if you needed to use the bathroom. One way foot traffic control as well. This place is absolutely worth the wait. I had their Grilled Wahoo special and it was delicious. Plating was excellent. The fish was grilled to perfection with a very nice and crisp char on the outside. The rest of my table had burgers and fish tacos, those looked delicious as well! The portions are fantastic. I also had a Bloody Mary with my meal, one of the better Bloody Mary's I've had in quite some time. I did see that their mix is made in house which is awesome. The service was great, everyone was very accommodating and courteous. This will be a must stop when we are in town again! read more

You will not be sorry you came here! I had the grilled tuna lunch special. The fish was cooked perfectly - ordered medium - on cheesy grits with avocado salsa. The portion was just right, grits were just right (most restaurant's grits are bland) and salsa was very flavorful! GF had the house salad with grilled chicken perfectly, tender and moist. Greens were fresh and dressing - requested on the side - delightful. It was crowded and the wait was expected but too bad. Service was very fast and friendly. Eating out during the time of Covid can be hit or miss. The KDG was a home run! They are following the COVID guidelines so it will be a different experience from what you are accustomed to. The dining room remains open but with limited seating. They have added outdoor picnic tables to accommodate the overflow. Very limited seating at the bar due to social distancing. There's nothing to fault at this casual dining spot. Outstanding food and terrific service. It has one of the menus where everything looks so good that it's hard to choose. The staff is very, very friendly. My wife had barbecued chicken and ribs. The chicken was very good and the ribs were exceptional. I had a pasta with grilled shrimp and house made tomato sauce. The shrimp tasted so fresh that I thought that the best that I have ever had. We dine out frequently in a city that is known for its restaurants. This one is good enough to take home. The only caveat is to be patient. There was an hour wait the night we ate there. It was so worth it. read more

Delicious! One tip is to come around 11:15AM so you can get in right when they open at 11:30. There so many great options, I don't even know what to recommend. I got an Ultimate BBQ burger. It was pretty good, but I think I enjoy the shrimp pasta more. So many great flavors to choose from. Another great choice is the bruschetta or the cheesesteak rolls. Just about everything here is great. I will also say, the servers tend to be pretty experienced and skilled in their career. Efficiency is incredible. read more

We went in early at 4:30 (8/24) and it was just the right time. They filled up fast. We were seated right away and served quickly. They had a lot of wait staff. I ordered the special, southwest marinated flank steak with mashed potatoes and creamed corn with onion straws. My mother had the southern fried chicken salad and my wife had the fish sandwich, which was flounder that day. My steak was a bit over cooked, I asked for medium rare and it was medium to medium well but the flavor was excellent. Mashed potatoes and creamed corn were good together. The southern fried chicken salad was impressive looking and my mother said it was delicious. Very fresh and plenty of it. The fish sandwich was also very good and the fries were tasty and hot. KDG was recommended in a foodie group that I am in and it was 100% worth the wait! Their curbside service was impeccable and the food was incredible. Order EARLY because they get slammed. Their steak and cheese egg rolls were legit some of the MOST delicious things we've ever had and their wings were also on point. Perfectly grilled and flavor, they were simply amazing. We also got the crab cake dinner and it was really tasty which is surprising since I'm from Maryland originally. Beyond the awesome food, the customer service cannot be beat! We mistakenly thought that they left out one order of our egg rolls since we couldn't find the third one and the staff member we spoke with (Props to Julie!) personally texted me to make sure we found them. We forgot to order a kids burger for my son and she added them to our order without any additional wait or hassle at all. We could not recommend KDG more. We got the cheesesteak egg rolls which were really good but I think for the price it should've been more. You only get 3 spring roll sized egg rolls for about $10. Very good! This place looks small from the front with the little diner car facing the road, but it's actually just the bar that is housed in there. The restaurant itself extends back where there are plenty of tables and booths. Even so, there's usually a wait even during the week, so be prepared. We had a later dinner, and many of the specials listed on the chalkboard were already gone. They did still have a special drum fish (NCs state fish, which hub had never tried) with avocado mango salsa. I tried the shrimp on a bed of angel hair pasta with red sauce and Parmesan. Both entrees were brought quickly and were generous portions. The drum fish was fresh and light and so tasty with the salsa. The shrimp were also large and fresh and the perfect accompaniment to the pasta. We were stuffed, but being on vacation we splurged and ordered the strawberry shortcake for dessert. This was a huge serving, and the shortcake was a-ma-zing with the fresh whipped cream. This is a definite foodie stop when in the area! read more

We ate here twice in one week while on vacation. I'd give it between 4-5 stars leaning more towards 4. It should probably land at 4.2-4.3 based on our experiences this week. Kids meals were $7 and the kids enjoyed them. Chicken tenders seemed to be fresh breaded in house and looked really good and the kids ate them. I had a ribeye which was cooked right at medium as requested. Flavor was good but maybe could use some more seasoning but overall was good. Crab cakes were decent as well. The family really enjoyed the apple crisp. The ambience at lunch was good and low key. At dinner it was very busy and crowded/cramped. I had a to go order and there's honestly nowhere to wait. I tried to wait at the bar as there was one empty seat that two gentlemen were using as a h_m_ seat. But for some reason they preferred I stand awkwardly between them versus sitting next to each other even though the app they were sharing between them was sitting in front of me as I waited and enjoyed a drink. read more
