I ordered takeout and got a lamb kabob meal. As I tore off a piece of pita, I saw a literal piece of Saran Wrap BAKED into the pita. I was appalled. I tried to call the restaurant to explain what had happened and asked to speak to a manager. I was not permitted to speak to the manager and there was no apology-I was just told to call DoorDash. This is no way to treat a customer. I'm disappointed to say the least and concerned about the safety of their food.

lamb shawarma platter (delivery)

I've been loving The Kabul for takeout or delivery. I recently discovered their lamb shawarma and am hooked. I usually go more for chicken dishes but the lamb is just so flavorful. I recently tried the shawarma fries which comes topped with lamb, hot sauce, and a creamy sauce and it was SO good. The signature bowls remain one of my favorite items and usually last me a few days since the serving size is so generous. My only real complaint is I wish they would pack some of their to-go items more carefully. Specifically, the shawarma platters which come with choice of meat, fries, salad, and sauce all in a flimsy plastic dish. Depending on the delivery driver, the plastic dish is easily tossed around resulting in sauce getting everywhere and creating a real mess. I know it's not necessarily their fault if the delivery driver doesn't transport with care but I do think some better packaging or packing side dishes in separate containers would be nice. It'd also be great to see more compostable packaging being used instead of plastic. If you do opt for one of their platters, also know that it does come with pita stacked on top of it. This isn't mentioned in the description and being gluten free, I would've asked for it to be removed in the special instructions had I known. If cross contamination is a concern for you, maybe order elsewhere.

Clean restaurant and fast service but food was nah . Hummus Batengan was ok . Kofta was absolutely NOT fresh at all . It was super super dry, hard and dark in color definitely not fresh at all . Will definitely not gonna be back !!

Delicious and amazing location!! Came here after visiting the aquarium and so glad I did versus something at the inn harbor. The staff were so friendly and helpful! It was also close proximity to the aquarium and the parking garage associated with it which made so easy with babies and toddlers. The kabob was seasoned so well and flavor. My favorite was the chick pea curry and my husband loved the pumpkin. Wish we took pictures but we were so hungry. It's also so clean and they cleaned the high chairs before we used them which I really appreciate.

Despite waiting over thirty minutes for my food while my partner's food came within 10 mins. It was an overall great experience. I really enjoyed the tandoori chicken and was very tender. I would probably come back but make sure to take out since it took a long time for my food to get prepared despite my partner and I getting very similar meals.

Afghan classic! Today I tried the Kabul located by the power live in downtown Baltimore. The setting is nice as they have an area for indoor eating and an area to pick up as well. They are also open until 11pm so that was good too. I was able to order my food on the phone to which I ordered the tandoori chicken entree. I subbed out the salad for extra rice and bread and I'm glad I did that. The rice is sweet I think they cooked It with pumpkin. I liked It but some may want to opt for white rice. The bread is nice and soft and complimented the chicken. The chicken was a bit dry but still had great flavor and they give you three dark meat halves so you're getting a lot for $13 The lady was nice and attentive to my order as well. I will definitely order here again

The food is delicious. Flavor definitely pops out. While I'd like to give it 5, the fact of thr matter is they don't train their staff or even seems to notify them about yelp discounts. The cashier didn't know yelp, didn't know how it could be used. The lady I sited that it may work for online order. I'm like how that can be true if I got this offer based on checking i.

Came here for a quick bite before a concert at Soundstage based on other Yelp reviews. I'm so glad I did! The food was flavorful, fresh, fairly priced, and fast. This will now be my go-to before concerts in the area!

Malai Chicken

I wasn't super hungry when we came here for gunner and only got the potato bolani. It was okay - the dough needed better treatment, frying bubbles in tough dough is never a good sign and it needed more filing. But it was freshly made and the filling was pretty yummy. My coworker had the malai chicken and it blew us both out of our minds. The chicken was melting off the fork, the rice was so delicious and flavorful ( typical afghan style with raisins which means it's a little sweet). The place was quiet and empty when we came in, and it pretty spacious. I will happy be back - can't wait for Ragz to try it.

The environment resembled fine dining, with its white linen adornments and cutlery, but the food tasted like a home cooked meal. The price of the food was astonishing since the quality was so rich. My boyfriend's dad was visiting from out of town and we decided to take a chance and see if they had any spots open for a Friday night dinner for 3. They luckily did and we were lucky to find street parking right in front of the restaurant. The interior is done up very nicely with cultural decorative elements from the Afghani diaspora. Service was very fast and attentive and food did not take too long to get to us. I ordered the lamb shank with the raisin and carrot rice (as did my boyfriend's dad) and my boyfriend got the vegetable sampler. The lamb shank was so tender and the seasoning on it was so savory and complemented perfectly by the slightly sweet bursts of the raisins in the rice it came with. My boyfriends platter was also a smorgasbord of delicious looking veggie dishes. The prices are also very affordable in this neverending climate of higher prices for a nice meal out. Would absolutely recommend this place (I totally get why everyone raves about it) and will continue to visit in the future.

I loved the kaddo borani (pumpkin with yogurt garlic sauce) -- sweet baby pumpkin balanced by a hint of the savory sauce. The chicken kabob bowl and naan were also good and filling. There appeared to be some variability in the chicken kabob bowls (some of us got potatoes/turnips, some of us got a spinach mash in the bowl though we ordered the same thing). Would love to try their main location in Mt Vernon some time! Have heard that the Kabuli Pallow is delicious.

My husband and I split the Herat Platter and modified it to be vegan. Our friends shared the meat platter. Our server was friendly and helped make sure our platter was in fact vegan by removing yogurt from the leek dumplings. I loved how all the food came out to be shared. It made it feel like I was having a home cooked dinner and less like I was in a stuffy fancy restaurant. It was just the vibe I wanted to relax with friends. It is hard to pick out a stand-out dish. All the flavors were so savory and comforting. The mushrooms (samarok) was probably my favorite as it reminded me of a beef burgundy. The mushrooms were so meaty and the sauce was deep and fantastic. The carrots were far and away the best carrots I ever had. I have never had carrots taste so savory. The cauliflower was perfectly tender. The lentils were something I wish I could eat daily as they were just the right amount of umami made me feel so warm and comforted. The dessert (halwa) was not my favorite. I am a chocolate lover and I wish it was a little sweeter. I am sure it was authentic to the flavors it should be. It just was not the sweet note I usually hope for at the end of a meal. I am still drooling over this meal and longing for a chance to come back. The price point is so reasonable for a tasting menu in DC that left my husband and I absolutely stuffed!

Compared with other…read moreMiddle Eastern cuisine like Persian and Lebanese, Afghan cusine also features rice, but the food is generally more heavily-seasoned. I went there with my friend for a Sunday dinner. At ~7:30pm the restaurant was almost fully seated. We tried the following dishes: 1. Bolani: You can choose two fillings among four. Came with 2pc per filling. We tried leeks and pumpkin fillings. The pumpkin was mashed and mixed with some green onions. Served with cilantro sauce and yogurt sauce. 2. Shrimp Dumplings: 4 or 6 (depends on your choice) small "Shumai shaped" dumplings stuffed with diced shrimp and herbs, and topped with saffron cream sauce and chili powder. There was only little filling for the dumplings, and I could barely taste the flavor of saffron in the sauce. 3. Lamb Tikka: My friend ordered it as his entree. Came with 8 bite-size pc of lean-cut lamb meat, spicy-sweet chili sauce and some torshi. While the lamb was tender, the serving size was much smaller than what we expected. 4. Palow: My friend sub the white rice for Palow. The side dish Palow was only seasoned with salt, pepper and cinnamon, and did not have raisins or carrots like their entree Qabuli Palow. Moreover, it was quite salty. Not recommended. 5. Morgh Qorma: Chicken stewed in a tomato-onion based sauce with split peas. The chicken was fork-tender and the sauce was rich in flavor. The split peas added some texture to the meat and thickened the sauce. However, I could not find the pitted plums. I asked my server and was told that they were "mixed in the sauce", but I really could not taste it. Since I ordered this dish mainly to see how plums could go with chicken this made my disappointed. Overall the food was good but definitely not amazing. Also note that they charge $5 for naan. Service was disappointing considering they charge 20% mandatory service charge. We were seated at a narrow corner of the basement of the restaurant even if there were several (2-seat) tables available on the first floor. Moreover, our server never asked us about the food throughout the meal.
