We absolutely adore Kandahar. We came here on a beautiful Saturday and had amazing service and even better food. We had a group of 6 and that didn't stop us from being treated like family. The food here is seriously something you just have to experience. It's aromatic and flavorful, and you have to get the pomegranate juice to complement it. Everything is vibrant. The meat just falls apart it's so tender. Hampden is full of amazing places to eat, but don't overlook Kandahar just because it's small. It's tiny but mighty.

We had an outstanding meal here! Everything was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The naan was soft, fresh, and perfect for scooping up the Banjan Laghatak and Kadoo appetizers. Both rich, comforting, and spiced just right. The chopped salad with basil olive oil added a bright, refreshing balance. The lamb shank was the star, tender, perfectly cooked, and deeply flavorful. Each plate felt thoughtfully prepared and generously portioned. For dessert, the baklava was flaky and fragrant, and both the Jhala and Afghan ice creams were a perfect finish, creamy, unique, and not overly sweet. The fresh pomegranate juice tied everything together with a burst of freshness. Service was warm and attentive without being rushed. Whether you're new to Afghan cuisine or already a fan, this restaurant is a gem worth revisiting. It was incredible and one of our favorite restaurants in Maryland.

This was my first time ordering from Kandahar Afghan Kitchen, and wow!! the food was incredible! Super flavorful and perfect for a busy workday takeout. The Kabuli Pallow and Bolani were both delicious, but the real star was the green sauce. If anyone knows what it's called, please tell me because I'm obsessed. Highly recommend!

we came here on a friday night. most restaurants surrounding were completely full for hours, but luckily they were able to seat us right away here. they have extensive vegetarian options. we ordered the bolani, which is two fried pastries with differenet fillings. one had potatoes, and one had leeks and they were served with a yogurt-based sauce. the yogurt based sauce was the star of the show here, and one of my friends kept it for her entree. for my entree, i ordered the shaftalou challow. it's advertised as served with dried peaches, but mine actually had fresh peaches which i prefer. the cucumber tomato salad was a really nice fresh bite alongside the chicken and rice. the portions were perfect; i could've taken some home if i wanted to but i powered through and cleared my plate. the service here was exceptional. the server was extremely friendly and personable, and when my friend got some undercooked chicken they replaced her meal and comped it. i am very pleased with the quality of my experience here and will absolutely return to try other things in the future.

If you're looking for afghan food this is the one - worth returning to for sure Appetizer, meal and dessert were all hits i loved Gasness in the food and dessert - it's a carry out vibe but also dine in. I sat down and they were very attentive and pleasant. Cool Afghani decor as well

Never had Afghan before but had a great experience and really enjoyed my meal/service that I can't wait to return. The place had a bunch of seating in the front but you can just head to the back to place your order. I got the Mantu entree. It was prepared quick and was very flavorful. The individual taking my order was very informative and gave me recommendations. He was so friendly I ended up buying three different drinks because I wanted to try them all after talking with him. Since it was my first time eating Afghan I can't say how it stacks up but I enjoyed my meal and their service was amazing which is more important to me.

Whoa! It's my first time trying Afghan cuisine and I'm blown away. I ordered the Mantu app and Shaftalou Challow. I wasn't sure exactly what I had ordered but I don't regret it a bit. It was so yummy and the green walnut sauce was perfection. Warm naan and butter to scoop up the sauce. wish I wasn't just visiting from out of town for a conference or I'd come here every week.

I ordered Kandahar for pickup and ended up eating off it for 3 meals! I got the Vegetarian Mantu (Afghan style dumplings filled with onions and topped with yogurt and a yellow split peas and carrots, served with pallow [rice]) and Vegetarian Dolma (baby eggplant filled with spinach simmered in sun-dried tomatoes and herb sauce, served with challow [rice] and shalgham [turnip]). Both were delicious, but the dumplings really stood out! My takeout also came with bread (which I wasn't expecting!) and a delicious green dipping sauce (I'm not totally sure what it was, but the staff member who handed me my takeout said it contains walnuts as an allergen warning.) Delicious food, great portion sizes - overall very impressed!

Visited last night for the first time with family. It was pretty quiet when we got there around 5:15pm but picked up about an hour in. The server was pretty attentive when we got there but then as it got busier, seemed to drop the ball a bit. He didn't come back to refill water and forgot to bring a second order of naan. The place has a good amount of seating and is pretty much self seating. Spots by the window or by the kitchen, plenty to choose from. No ambiance whatsoever, just a sit down and go or take out type of place. The people in my party were impressed with the food, I felt it was just okay. We ordered many appetizers but I just had the mantu. It was fine. My seekh kabob bowl was fine, but the lamb was very dry. Overall, not my favorite. I think the rest of the people I ate with would love to come back but I wouldn't.

New local Afghan restaurant is quickly taking its place in popularity. Good service and delicious food.! Mom and I had: -naan basket and bolani appetizer, leeks and spicy potatoes with yogurt -chicken kabob with tomatoes and onions with yogurt, potato wedges and pickled vegetables -vegetarian mantu, dumplings filled with yogurt, split peas and carrots and challow (white rice) -dessert, cardamom-infused vanilla ice cream, with dates, figs and mango

I got the Zardalou Challow and there was very little lamb, mostly apricots. Wished there was more substance than rice and sauce.

For appetizers, we got Mantwo and Bowlawani- it was absolutely DEMOLISHED. Mantwo is basically afghan dumpling, and the filling was incredible savory and had a meaty texture. The was my favorite appetizer, stuffed with spiced potatoes, lentils, and chives/leeks from what I saw. The dipping sauce of yogurt and mint went amazing with it. For mains, we got the Lamb Lawand and Lamb loin chop. The lamb lawand was this savory rice dish- they served it with mushrooms and a side of beautifully seasoned spinach. It came as a stew that you were able to mix with your rice as you please. As for the lamb loin chop, it was incredibly tender- falling off the bone. Dessert was difficult, as I am deathly allergic to all nuts. My partner got the hazelnut chocolate cake, and from what I heard they rated it very highly. I got the afghan ice cream; the flavor were incredibly unique, with notes of cardamom, saffron and rose water. I usually have a problem with rose water in my desserts, as it ends up tasting overly flowery or soapy, but I think it was executed well. The toppings of dates, mangos, and figs went incredibly well with the flavors of the ice cream. My only complaint was the service being a bit slow, but at the time we went it was incredibly busy, and I don't blame the workers. Otherwise, this was a great place to go to for an elevated meal! Not TOO fancy, but not too casual either.

We started off with the bowlani. It was a freshly gently fried samosa if I had to describe it. I enjoyed it very much. I wanted to try multiple items but for some reason wasn't very hungry so I went with the vegetarian aushuk and the mashawa soup. I also ordered the bread to dip in my soup. Everything was very tasty. The service was excellent and the overall vibe of the restaurant was pleasant. I'll be back for sure.

They were melt in your mouth good and I really enjoyed that the shrimp was the main flavor I could taste in the filling. Sometimes that can get lost. The dough itself too was rich and full of flavor, as well as the sauce on it!!! The lamb tikka was also delicious. The lamb was cooked to absolute perfection and that paired with their rice? YUM!!!! The ambiance of the place was also super unique and cool, we got sat downstairs which I was a bit hesitant about because of the no windows but it was such a vibe and I really loved it. The service was fantastic. Our waiter gave us many recommendations and explained many dishes which was super helpful. Our table was always clean and our water cup always full. It is cheaper. Or consider making the trek to where it all started, Afghan Bistro in Springfield. 2. Ask for the daily selection of cakes. The pumpkin dumplings and pan fried veggie filled dumplings were great as well. I thought my salmon wrap and the chickpea side was ok. Interesting flavors for sure. As for the service, there was always someone filling up our waters and our waiter was very nice checking in every now and then. The only downside of the experience is at the end when the waiter was boxing up all the food for us. Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. So that was kind of a disappointment for us. I think if we go again, we would request to box our food ourselves since I'm not sure why they decided to get rid of all of his lamb.
