Inkwell checks off all the boxes. I'm a huge coffee snob and usually only order pour overs, but I must say this is the best drip coffee I have ever had. I'm honestly super curious how they get it to brew so well in larger quantities. Had a wonderful Mother's Day breakfast with my husband on Sunday. We got there a little early to beat the rush, but easily found a table in the May sunlight. I had the avocado toast with the works at it was delicious. My only complaint could be that I specifically asked for a runny egg, and it was definitely over easy med hard. However, they graciously took it back and brought me a replacement with no recriminations. My husband had the broken egg sandwich and it was perfectly cooked. The sourdough toast was also perfectly done!!! I took home a blueberry scone for another morning and a berry "pop tart" for my son (who was dog sitting for us) and they were both terrific. Coffee...YES!!! Great little joint. When/if we return to Bloomington, we will make it back again!!! read more

Tasty breakfast sandwiches & good coffee, perfect for light brunch. Coffee & food for 2 people was $23. My only suggestion is to make the menus more accessible; rather than keeping them at the counter where you have to quickly read & order to keep the line moving, have them in a basket for people to look at while they're in line. Coffee is not that good. I had an espresso and the beans were extremely burnt - ruining the drink. The foods pretty decent though and the service is good. All in all not too bad but the atmosphere can feel a little too political. read more

Good food, a bit pricey, but avocado toast with bacon and a decently cooked egg--over very hard when I asked for over medium, but nothing to complain about, still tasty, and it seemed to be their lunch rush...for under ten bucks (albeit just), is about what you can expect anywhere...and here, you get it, and feel like you have the time to eat it in peace. My one bit of grievance with the place was that it didn't feel like a place I could go to work quietly for an hour or two, which, is fine, not everywhere in town needs to be like that...but when I think of a cafe, I tend to think of somewhere that you can just go and vanish into and forget about everything while you drink something and just kind of let your brain float for awhile. Does seem like a lovely place to meet folks for lunch, though, so...if I had friends, I'd probably like this place better. read more

Coffee was okay at most, definitely not the best in the area by any means and they definitely have the rudest staff of all the shops in the area. They did have a lot more real food selections though. However, we waited 12-15 minutes for our coffee when it wasn't very busy and the staff was not friendly at all. I'd heard really good things about this place and really wish I'd come away from my visit feeling good about it. Staff interactions bordered on rude and food was pricy considering the quality and portion size. That being said, it is a great space to set up shop for a few hours and do some work. That's also probably the only context in which I'd find the prices to be justified since you're getting a space, wifi, water and all that good stuff. Interactions were sour across the board. When I stepped up to the register the cashier stiffly told me to wait and left for the kitchen. Ordering was no better and even the employees clearing plates seemed inordinately annoyed. I by no means expect an elaborate customer service song and dance, but could do with the air of annoyance that colored every interaction. For $8.10 after tax I ordered the turkey sandwich which comes with mashed avocado, a tomato basil aioli (which I disappointingly couldn't taste), cheese, lettuce, and tomato on sourdough bread. They definitely didn't skimp on the sliced turkey, which was pretty par for what you can pick up at any grocery deli, but overall the sandwich was small. Nothing special especially not for the price. I will say that the coffee is top notch, honestly even better than what I remember getting at Hopscotch (which is what they serve) last time I was there. Doubt I'll personally be back but have to admit that it's a great space to hunker down for an afternoon. read more

I love the food at this place. Wonderful delicious food. Great place! Affordable! HOWEVER, there are 2 things I don't love. 1: my gf ordered a sandwich with guacamole. She kindly went up and said said she didn't receive guacamole. The manager came out and inspected her sandwich to see if there actually was guacamole. Total disaster. Maybe don't treat your customers like criminals when they try to get their order correct. Also I love the pop tarts. Best things there. Out of the 3 times I have been there only one time did they actually have pop tarts. Overall great place but be careful in there, they might bust out a microscope to inspect your order if you claim there isn't guacamole on your sandwich! read more

I liked the space. Staff were fine though no warm fuzzies for sure. But. Broken egg sandwich had problems. Firstly that the plate was TOO SMALL. The size of the sandwich, which meant that cutting it spewed egg all over the table. Oh and cutting it - tricky with a regular, blunt table knife when the'toast' was barely toasted. Nice chew but zero toasting. The rest? Five, but unevenly done, so I've bite was good, the next was all mayonnaise, the next had all the cheese. Etc Coffee? I am glad I finally got around to trying this place. It was so cool! I absolutely loved the aesthetic. The exposed brick was beautiful and the high ceilings made it feel very open and spacious. The latte I had was a great size and the food was delicious. This all being said, the best thing about this place was the service. There was always someone cleaning up right after a customer left. Everyone was very nice and patient as well. Overall would definitely recommend. read more

Enjoyed the ambiance of the space.. lots of light and seating! My husband and I were not very impressed with the coffee or selection of drinks, however. The cortado and cold brew coffee did not impress. They were both bitter and we had to add generous amounts of simple syrup and cream to mask the burnt flavors. read more

I was pretty annoyed with my service today--I ordered avocado toast (decent), an iced latte (ok) and chocolate milk--all to go. My avocado toast came out in 5 minutes, my drinks took an extra TWENTY! It was...busy but not slammed. The three employees working the drink bar were all far more interested in chatting with each other and at one point, all comparing hands (yes), than getting drinks done. There were at least two mix-ups while I was waiting, and some mad shuffling of previous orders. I think everything would have tasted much better to me if these 3 had been doing their job and maybe waiting until things slowed down to compare hands. I'd think the manager would like to know. Recently my husband and I stopped into The Inkwell and can honestly say we were very confused and disappointed. We began ordering our drinks and food with the cashier, when another employee came over. This employee stated we shouldn't be served because of the type of mask my husband was wearing. But he would allow this time. The covering was completely over his mouth and nose. And there was nothing in the cafe stating specific types of mask can be worn. Even on The Inkwell website nothing is stated in regards to the cafe's standards of what mask should be worn! I realize this is a difficult time for everyone but If you aren't going to allow customers to use certain mask(for free.) I would at least state that on your front door or offer the proper mask in the Cafe. Also employees should be wearing gloves when handling food and drinks. Especially if you are so worried about certain type of mask. Though the drinks and food was good. The customer service is definitely lacking. read more

I have been here several times for lunch. I love the atmosphere and the staff is friendly. The food I've had (Cobb salad and veggie sandwich) were VERY average. With just a little more effort they could be much better! They should have more color and toppings (salad) and maybe some chips or something on the sandwich plate with a yummy dressing on the side.
