everything was fresh and well seasoned l. the staff was friendly. overall great experience

food was good. service was great and the atmosphere was pleasant but I could do with out the fried feather on my wings.

Great food! Attentive service! Nice atmosphere! Easy access and very close to my home. It seems like a spot where regulars dine in and take out. Highly recommend. I had the catfish with 2 sides. Deliciously delightful! Highly recommend this Black-owned business! read more

I guess i must have just went on the wrong day cause the service was real slow when me and my wife went , they couldn't get my ot der right they're potatoes where only half cooked even though they took forever to cook the food. The servers kept dropping either food or dishes. The silverware was dirty. I'd have been better off going to the I hop in Gardena but I wanted to support the local business...maybe we'll go again in hopes that maybe they just had a bad day.. ohh oh yeah and they're lemonade I was just over sugared koolade read more

Very disappointed with the way my mother and I were treated at The Ingredients Restaurant in Compton on September 21, 2026. We entered with my mother's service dog and were rudely told that animals were not allowed. I explained that she was a service dog, and the manager responded, "And?" What made the experience even worse was overhearing the manager make a comment suggesting that there didn't appear to be anything wrong with my mother. You cannot look at someone and determine whether or not they have a disability. Not every disability is visible. I completely understand having a no-pets policy, but a service animal is not the same as a pet. The situation could have been handled respectfully and professionally without making assumptions about my mother or embarrassing her. I really hope management provides better training to its employees regarding service animals, invisible disabilities, and how customers should be treated. Sincerely Dylon read more

This was such a feel-good breakfast experience. Good food, genuinely welcoming service, and an atmosphere where I could sit down, breathe, look at the menu, and order like a human being instead of feeling like I'm holding up the entire operation. Not pictured the mixed Kool-aid slushie that definitely saved me from that 90 plus degree heat that day. read more

Great service, tasty food, clean spot. Food was 10/10. Fresh/hot and cooked to order even though it was a full house for breakfast. The pancakes were so good. My picky husband really enjoyed his food too. I'd like to add that every single staff greeted us - whether they served us or not so I really appreciated that. I will definitely come again and try more things. My baby ate all my chicken lol - gotta come again without him ahah. The bathroom was also spotless. High marks on all accounts. read more

Nice restaurant to have breakfast. I ordered the Sam Cook which was 3 pancakes, 3 wings, and grits. Everything was good. The chicken was seasoned well, and nice crispy edge pancakes. I didn't need to add anything to the grits, it comes with butter - I'm a salt and pepper grits type of gal. They have take out and there are several tables inside for full service dine in. Service was good, our server was nice and friendly. Direct access to parking lot. read more

This restuarant has a nice small homie feel. They made the most in utilizing every inch of their seating area with the use od booths, bar stool like seating, and small tables. Great pictures of famous folks on the wall. In addition a number of big screen TV with amble view where ever you are sit. We had a party of six qhich includes two children. We arrived on a Sunday at 1:15pm and it was packed and our party had to stand outside. We did not get seated until 2:30pm. The expectation we figured due to the time it will be busy but we would have like more contact by the greeter as to the status of our possibility of getting seated. My cousins had to go in to try to get status even to obtain chairs to sit on in the hot sun. Once aeated we all placed our order. I selected the grits with catfish with lemonade. The grits had cheese on it was cook well, the catfish was fried well and it taste delicious. read more

Okay, so I want to first say the food is pretty good but it needs some work! I've been here twice now, so a review is needed. The customer service is okay... it's always one thing that sort of ruins the experience. It was just my cousin and me. We walked in and waited to be seated. I counted three people who walked around and never said a word. I wondered if I had died and was a ghost, especially since the third person greeted the party of two standing behind us and sat them in her section! I was heated, upset, and extremely mad, but I'm trying to be a better person. I finally walked up and asked someone if we could be seated, and she said yes. I mentioned what happened, and she said it's probably because they thought we were there to pick up food... ummm, I'm not buying it. We were assisted and ordered our food. The lemon pepper catfish was salty, the grits were watery and the hash browns were frozen. Dont get the hash browns. Its the kind that goes in a toaster oven. The eggs, pancakes, fried chicken and turkey chops were good. Coffee was mediocre. Beside being ignored, the customer service is ummmmm, hit or miss. I would say this place is okay, but its okay not to go too if you dont want to deal with the night and day of the customer service and food. read more

This place is exceptional! Some of the best food I've had in a long time. The flavor is amazing. The atmosphere feels like home. The customer service is top notch. Pam was the best server and the staff works together as a team. I can't wait to come back and tell/bring others. Don't change a thing, well except maybe add a egg option on the Sam Cooke, lol. The Ingredients is officially my favorite African American comfort food restaurant in Compton. I love their chicken wings, red beans & rice, cabbage with shrimp & andouille sausage! I also love their shrimp and grits! The owner and management take pride in serving their community quality foods. Every server who has waited on me has been friendly, professional and extremely helpful. The restaurant also has a clean, family oriented vibe. I watched the classic tv show Good Times while I ate my food. I am looking forward to returning this amazing establishment asap. I have literally been craving their food since last week! lol read more

Our waitress was & always excellent!!!!! Ashley keeps me coming back ***** Pleasant greeting & alway

So The Ingredients has been a Black-owned restaurant high on my list as it was not only new but looked to have great options that reminded me of the cooking my family did, so I was excited to try it out. We made it a point to arrive early, since it seemed like it could get busy because of the smaller space, and thankfully we were seated right away. The menu had a lot of great options and combinations, which I enjoyed because I could try multiple options in one meal, and the prices were very reasonable. I will say the service was very mediocre and subpar from our waitress, despite it not being busy, and that always turns me off at places, since that's a big part of the experience. Though these chicken wings were very tiny and the grits had a lot of butter in them, the food was pretty decent. It's always great to try a new Black-owned restaurant, and I think it was fine but I hope in the future, the service and portion sizes get bigger. read more

Well the parking structure is very limited! In a small business plaza with a 7Eleven and a few other businesses. During the week it's okay, but the weekend is tuff, street parking on Rosecrans is also very limited. The bathroom was clean. The music was very nice, while dining. Our server Ashley was very accommodating and made us feel as though we were dining at her home! And very attentive 5 for Ms.Ash! We tried the waffles and pancakes, and may I say the pancakes were very delicious, with a taste of their very own, with a hint of cinnamon and crunchy edges, made them perfect. The wings were seasoned, but tasted like the grease may have been old, which really took away from the wing experience! I will try again though! The waffles were a little too soft for my taste,I would request them to be extra crispy. The grits were good, the home potatoes are deep fried diced potatoes, remind me of dice frence fries! Smothered potatoes would be so much better,in my humble opinion! Other than that I would definitely go back. read more

AMAZING! This food went beyond expectations. This was that " Slap yo Mama kind of food ". I judge breakfast places by their pancakes and these were SPECTACULAR! The pancakes were perfectly cooked with that golden brunt crispy edge and buttery flavor phenomenon. The grits were perfectly creamy and buttery just like I like them. Now, the Chicken Wings were so good, I ordered extra. The ambiance is family oriented. This place truly has made me feel like part of their family. I feel like Norm from the TV show Cheers, "Where everyone knows Your Name". Blessings to everyone in This Place, The Ingredients! read more

I will start off by saying I ate here before twice I called and placed an order an went to pick it up the food I ordered was very good ... Today I went and decided to sit and eat after getting out of my car and getting a whiff of I don't know what I almost didn't go in it was a very bad smell in the parking lot but I go in. I waited a few minutes for a table got a table and it was 15 minutes till someone came an took our order my sister ordered shrimp and grits she asked if the shrimp could be grilled because she doesn't like the texture she wanted them grilled the waitress says ok no problem my nephew got hotcakes and bacon and eggs I ordered Chilaquiles verde with extra cheese when the food came the shrimp were not grilled and there wasn't enough gravy from the shrimp on her grits which left the meal lacking flavor she wanted to say something but decided not to she just put pepper and hot sauce on the grits an ate them she didn't eat the shrimp the hotcakes my nephew enjoyed I had a bite they were very good without syrup so I thought that was bomb now my chilaquiles I asked for extra cheese I got my order there was no extra cheese so I waited 10 minutes for a server to come back around and asked her if I could have extra cheese she said yes she comes back with a container of shredded cheese and I guess it was in my look she said oh do you want me to heat your food up? I'm like yeah cause if I put the cheese on it it won't melt so she took the food and and the cheese and took it to the back now I'm waiting for my food 10 minutes pass 15 minutes pass and my sister an nephew finish there food so I started eating the shrimp that my sister didn't eat because they weren't grilled the the server comes over and says ok so how was everything are you ready for your check and I just looked at her like really and I guess from my look she looked down where my plate should have been and said oh my gosh your food and I just smiled and shook my head yes she says I'm sorry I will be right back lol so I finally get my food that was reheated twice and I just wasn't in the mood to eat it then, so I got a To go plate and took my food to go Now I will say this, this place is really nice I love the pictures on the walls and the music had me reminiscing about my parents (GOODTIMES!!!) I leave out and I'm hit in the face with that awful smell I'm like what is that smell as we are leaving I look over and see the trash and thought that's the smell right outside of the door the trash left an undesirable feeling... I know this place is fairly new and I know it can get overwhelming so I try and have patience knowing that the first couple of years can be rocky I pray that this place flourish with prosperity because it has an abundance of potential I wish them well read more

We enjoyed our breakfast at The Ingredients this morning. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:00 AM. The team was getting things together, so it was a rough start. I had a seat near the door but still NOT a bad seat! And a lot of orders were going out the door! I give this place an A+! read more

As soon as you walk in you feel like you're at home, The staff is amazing and the food is absolutely delicious.

1st time here, service was prompt and courteous. Food was good and plentiful. Will go there again.

I was hungry and searching for a place to get some good food and get some work done. The food was absolutely delicious. I got the chicken and waffles and both were amazing. There were two waitresses who were very attentive, joyful, and seemed happy to there. I went on a Friday morning, so it wasn't too busy. The food came out fast and the coffee was hot, I was absolutely joyful about that. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area. The only thing I would note is that, I felt rushed to pay the bill and get out. I didn't get to stay and get some work done. Hopefully, next time I am able to enjoy it and not feel rushed to pay the bill and leave. read more
