I went for breakfast before heading out for a road trip. The dining area was clean and well put together, and the service was excellent. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and French toast. While the ladies ordered loaded breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, and chicken sausage, and the salmon croquettes with scrambled eggs and cheese grits. If the review were solely based on the food, our gentleman server, who may have been the manager or owner (I could be wrong), then I would rate Flavor Table a solid 4 and some change. I tbelive that his name is DJ based on the receipt. However, because other factors can make or break service ratings, I must also consider them in the equation. The hostess have zero personality and not welcoming at all. She was a bare minimum type of hostess. We were also overlooked originally by another server that took a table ahead of ours, though we arrived and were sat first. Okay enough of that, let's get into the food. The shrimp and Catfish combo OMG. Let me preference I am from Florida, South Florida and we cook seafood well, especially with grits. Our order was cooked to perfection. The portion size was massive. Three people could have easily shared that meal. Yes, I brought my leftovers home with me back to Vegas and the leftovers were equally divine. Everything was excellent from the fish, shrimp, Country potatoes, cheese grits, scrambled eggs( which I don't typically enjoy), and that got dayum biscuit. My ggaawwwdd that biscuit. I'm going back for the biscuit alone and I don't eat much bread. The setup at the restaurant was cozy and I enjoyed how everyone talked to people they didn't know across tables. I miss that type of vibe. The customers understood the assignment. I'll be back whenever I return to Cali. Minuses-----parking is not so great. Street parking only and on a wide busy street, small on the inside, not ideal if you have a large party, only open until 2pm Specifics!!!! The Flavor Table is on a busy street , very easy to miss no real signage to single it out. We had a waiter that was really nice but he went out of his way to let us know he wanted his tip in cash not on the card was very vocal . I found this unprofessional, off putting and actually felt a bit of anxiety at the end worrying about if I had enough cash for his tip. There biscuits are the best taste like my grandma's homemade biscuits. The restaurant is not fancy not very decorative at all really. We went to the restaurant and it was closed we called and no one answered. This is very poor practice. I called and spoke to Tiffany during the week to confirm their hours and if they would be open. and she told me the restaurant would be open and serving takeout in Easter. On to the food: my husband had the veggie omelette and his only complaint was the spinach was really watery. The potatoes and included biscuit was good. I had the fried shrimp and catfish with cheese grits. I found this to be okay, nothing spectacular. I would try something more flavorful next time instead of playing it safe. I ordered pancakes for my son and those were good, fluffy and a decent size. All the food came out piping hot! Our waiter was a nice gentleman who was pretty attentive. We didn't wait terribly long for our food. The space had a good amount of patrons dining but it wasn't loud, so that was nice. My review is focused on the negative than the positive. I came here for the first time and upon opening the entrance gate it made a really loud bang because the "garage door" that is used to when restaurant is closed was not pushed up all the way. Every time someone entered you heard the loud bang. After entering the lady with the blonde curly wig was rude. All she said was "for 2?" No hello, no good morning, no warm welcome at all just attitude. Once we sat down, I said thank you and she just walked away. Upon leaving she was standing at the stand just staring, no smile, I have a good day, nothing so I said thank you with a smile and she gave me a dry you're welcome. Not sure if the greeter that did not greet us was having a bad morning but she should leave that attitude at the door because it definitely affected my experience and the tip. It was our first time trying this place. Will we come back yes but if I were to walk in and she was the greeter, I would probably just turn around and walk out as customer service can make air break a business and she needs to work on hers. Our actual server was a ray of sunshine. He made us feel welcomed and showed he appreciated us for trying the restaurant. Every time he approached our table, his energy was up beat and kind.
