I really wanted to support this local Black owned business, but after my second visit I can't ignore the experience anymore. My first visit was slow, but I gave grace because the place had recently gone viral and was packed. This visit was different. We were seated quickly. The restaurant was not busy. Out of about 12 booths and several counter seats, only a few tables were occupied. We placed a simple breakfast order and then waited. And waited. It took almost an hour to get our food. During that time, the table next to us received their food, ate, paid, and left before our plates even arrived. Meanwhile pickup orders started piling up and tickets were stacking in the kitchen. I could see only two cooks working, so I understand being understaffed, but this is a breakfast diner. The food we ordered should never take an hour. Order: Corned beef hash plate with grits, eggs, and English muffin Pancake special with bacon and eggs Burger and fries The pancakes were good and the burger was fine according to my son. Everything else was disappointing. The corned beef hash tasted like canned corned beef seared hard with tiny potatoes and almost no seasoning. The grits were bland and watery with no flavor at all. After waiting that long, the quality did not match the time investment. What made it worse was watching multiple customers visibly frustrated. One couple waited around 30 minutes at the counter and eventually walked out. Unfortunately, about three hours after eating I had stomach cramps bad enough to send me to the restroom. I genuinely want this place to succeed, but based on two visits, the wait times, food consistency, and overall execution are not there yet. I cannot recommend. read more

When we walked in we didn't notice a sign that restaurants usually have that tells you to wait for host or seat yourself so, we stood at the door and waited a few minutes. Only saw the waitress at the bar helping someone. Finally, a man sitting (yes sitting) at the bar gets up and cleans one of the tables. I ordered the $7.99 pancake special - it comes with 2 pancakes, 2 bacon, a sausage patty and 2 eggs (I asked for scrambled but received over easy). My husband added grits to his, he wanted potatoes but they said the potatoes would be ready in 30 minutes. The waitress was nice and the food came out expeditiously, we were shocked that the food was ready so fast. There's street parking, no parking lot. We spent about $25 for 2 pancake breakfasts, side of grits, one coffee and service was quick. Can't beat that with a stick. read more

I was here on a semi date; if that's what you want to call it! I can't remember what she had but I don't recall her complaining. Besides.... It's hard to mess up breakfast food! My biggest complaint at most breakfast spots is the temperature of the food! I want mine hot and fresh! I enjoyed it. My server really saved the day. She was nice; courteous and on top of things! Since I've been to a lot of breakfast spots; it is hard for newer spots to stand out so there was nothing I saw that was more special than other places I've been to. I wanted to give them 5 starts but the wait for your food was close to an hour. No joke. We happen to go on a Saturday ( I know, I know..) but that was the only time we could get together. We arrived at about 10am, getting a table was ok. We waited about 10 min for the server then coffee. And then 45-50 minute wait for our order. The food was good. I ordered Catfish breakfast. Tal's Cafe is now under new management, and they are working hard to ensure the quality of the food reflects a return to the restaurant's glory days in the 1980s when I first discovered it. Unfortunately, the food is a hit and miss. A few weeks ago the food was good. However, today the burger patty was burnt, and the wings were fried in old grease that caused my relative to have diarrhea. Parking can be a challenge, especially on street-sweeping days. Entered to smiles and a welcome! We sat ourselves at a clean booth! I loved the life quotes on the black painted walls and, always love, seeing my President Obama and family portrait on the wall! Ok, in all honesty, Definitely go there hungry! Not starving! Hungry. Good food takes time, lol! Kudos to our server, Unique! She was thorough in explaining and answering all our questions. My veggie omelette was hot and perfectly prepared (well done) and I had a side order of the grits. My only complaint, they were not hot grits! Come on! . It's feels like a cute little mom and pop shop , there is a good amount of seating , I got the breakfast burrito & it had cheese, egg hashbrowns & a choice of meat which was bacon but they do charge extra for meat but it doesn't say that on the menu so I paid about 22$. It seemed too expensive, I think it could have had a little more flavor to it & the bacon was not crunchy it was just hard. Overall staff were nice and they cooked the food pretty quick. Stopped in for breakfast after a run at St. Andrew's Park. Amazing breakfast plate for a great price. I got French Toast, 2 over easy eggs and chicken sausage. I am so satisfied after eating there. The chicken sausage is a bit salty and still one of the best sausages I've had. My boyfriend got the waffle, eggs and chicken sausage and a friend of ours got the pancakes with eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns on the side. We literally cleaned our plates, the pancakes looked and my friend loved them. We came in and took the last table, it was a full house. We felt we waited a long time for the food to come out. We were vibing so it wasn't a huge deal but we did wonder why it took so long. Highly recommend when you're in the area for breakfast. My first time visiting this place and it was such a vibe! The staff were courteous and down-to-earth, the service was excellent and the food was sooo good! I'm very picky when it comes to my grits, no everyone can make them right. These however were PERFECT. I felt like I was back home in my aunties kitchen. The parking isn't good, it's on a Main Street and the side residential street next to it is very strict with parking. When I arrived the owner made an announcement to everyone that we must move our cars to avoid a ticket (I didn't notice the sign that said no parking from like noon to 4pm or something). Long awaited Tal's return and I wish they would have just stayed the same as before. For them to closed down for "renovations" the inside looked pretty much the same. The only difference was the extended wait and the short cuts on the menu. Tal's was a staple in the LA community as they offered several great options for us non-pork eaters. Tal's homemade turkey and chicken sausage Pattie's were a chef's kissed. Major disappointment that they stopped serving the homemade Pattie's and switched to some generic prepackaged Pattie's. Completely left their trademark mom/pop vibe and went commercial. Tal's tailored and making each meal to the customer likings including adding additional seasoning and spice. We were looking for a brunch spot and wanted to support a local business so we chose Tal's. Off first glance, it's a traditional small breakfast/ brunch spot that I grown up frequenting. The service was good. They greeted us and allowed us some time to view the menu. I ordered chicken wings, egg whites, home fries and sour dough bread. The wings were not bad but I wouldn't get them again; however, they taste like they were fried in the same grease the fish is fried in. The egg whites portion was hella small. I know it's only two eggs, but I would recommend getting more eggs if you are an egg lover. The home fries were very good. My son had a waffle that he loved. I taste it and it was very good and light. My wife had the same view as I about the chicken. She also had a waffle that she really enjoyed. The grits she stated were just ok. All in all the restaurant is a cool spot to go to if you are in the mood for simple eats. I gave it a decent 3 stars with nothing truly bad to say. read more

Restaurant wasn't busy at all, there was a normal amount of people, someone got their food in a fraction of the time we did and they got here 20 minutes after us. The actual restaurant was nice, it felt like a diner. The rating is this low because of how god damn long they had us waiting. The porkchops were so good that you could eat them straight out the pan without adding any additional condiments..... but I did dribble a little Red Rooster hot sauce( a tradition with me) . I'm at @tals.cafe - this is not my first time. They closed around October for some renovations but are now back open on Florence and 5th Ave. The food is delicious and the service is very good! Polite and attentive servers. You see them grits smoking! lol My eggs were cooked just like I asked for. Now the biscuits are not on the menu. I found them by accident lol. So if you like biscuits ask for them. Fluffy and soft. I also like that they have hand sanitizer at each table and a mini trash can to put your empty jelly containers or coffee flavors in. There's plenty of street parking. No reservations taken as it is a first come, first serve basis. The place is small with diner like bar seating and table seating inside only. The service is good and the food is delicious. There may be a wait depending on the time of day you go. The vibes in here are superior! This spot is an Inglewood classic spot. All black interior and tons of old school r&b music videos bumping. My dad brought me here for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. The server was amazing and super sweet.
