The Hutton has been on my list of spots to try for so long, but out of sight out of mind sometimes. We finally took a short walk and landed here for dinner over the weekend. On a Saturday evening there was quite a long wait for the patio but the 3 picnic tables outside were free and clear...perfect! Delicious food Great cocktails Kindest staff that brought water out for our pup All good things. We got the apple guac to start and loved that it was like a sweeter, chuckier guacamole. It was served with plantain chips and great for a hotter night app. For my main, I got the Grain Bowl. So good, so filling and I had plenty left over for lunch the next day. Finally stopped at the Hutton for some food. I've been walking past this place for the past year or so. We ordered the burger LTO and the chicken caprese. The sides were Caesar salad and fries. Never had a bad meal here in 3 years I've lived in the area. Really great quality food and super service. Cocktails are great, and a great pint of Guinness. I've had the Apple Guac, wings, Hutton burger, chicken naan sandwich. Really recommend. There is a debate in Hoboken about the best burger and a lot of people say Morans but I will say I enjoyed my burger here more. Really crispy fries. So I want to be honest and constructive with my review. The bar here is great with great drinks. However, the food is not good. Quality and creativity is very low. The condition, smell and logistics of the back dinning area is awful. The staff are very nice but clearly not trained or experienced. What an amazing find! We were in the area and happened upon this hidden gem. They have a huge outdoor seating space in the back, street parking available and at the time we went it was crowded...yet. I had a delicious frozen margarita and my hubby ordered a beer from a nice selection. But it was the food menu that totally wowed me! What an eclectic blend of appetizers and main dishes. Me and my friends had a wonderful brunch experience at The Hutton! I called in advance because I really wanted the backyard seating and the last time I came they were too busy so I couldn't. Luckily this time it was pretty empty according to the woman who answered and it actually was! I love the rustic and homey decor. I was blown away by the backyard. So cute! I love that it's enclosed. We came during Memorial Day weekend and were immediately seated and helped. A man who seemed like the manager suggested we have the Frośe because we weren't sure what drink to choose. I'm so glad we went with his suggestion because it came with the cutest rubber duck and it was delish and refreshing on a hot day. For our meals two of us ordered the French Toast and one ordered the Marinated Skirt Steak and Eggs Brunch. We shared an order of Home Fries. Everything exceeded my expectations taste wise! The size of the French Toast and Home Fries was perfect. The only downside we had was the size of the steak (as you can see). It was very small so we told the waiter and he sent it to the back. Supposedly they had a new chef who didn't serve the right size and they gave another piece. I love a restaurant who can correct mistakes seamlessly. I'll say it was an incredible steak. Pretty good classic American restaurant / bar. I ordered the Hangover Sandwich (not that I actually needed it for that purpose), and it was quite tasty. It came with fluffy sesame burger buns with a fried egg, sausage, avocado, and chipotle mayo. The egg and sausage were average quality, and the avocado was a good refreshing addition. The chipotle mayo was good to have, but I thought they could've added some more of that. The sandwich was $20, which I thought was a little bit overpriced but not bad. The sandwich also came with fries, which were decent although the ketchup tasted a bit old. The place itself has a classic fairly nice American restaurant decor style with a bar area as well as normal table seating. It is in a somewhat residential area though, so you will need to park on the street. I came on a Sunday afternoon for brunch, and there were only two other customers in the whole restaurant. As such, the service speed was fast. The staff were very friendly. Overall, there is nothing all too special about The Hutton, but if you are interested in some good American food / drinks in this area, then I would recommend this place to you. read more

Our server Dan was so nice and attentive . The place is very cute and we loved the outside patio , adorable decor and the drinks are really well made . My only issue wasn't even with the place , but with a couple that had two kids screaming the entire hour and half we were there . If you can't control your children leave them at home . Not everyone wants to eat lunch with screaming on the background . We left early because I seriously couldn't take it anymore . Hopefully next time we won't have any disturbances. Stopped by last Friday (was a solid 25min walk from Hoboken) and enjoyed our meal. Lots of different flavor with an Indian spice twist. We ordered cocktails which were good. We then tried the fish tacos, calamari, and the fried chicken naan sandwich. Each dish had a lot of flavor, some spicier than others (I'm a little sensitive to spice) but overall good service and ambience was nice! I also enjoyed the grain bowl that I got, as it is so wholesome and big. The one thing I surprisingly did not like is the fried chicken naan sandwich. I know that it's their most popular item, but the cheese gravy that comes on it was too much for me, and the chicken itself was fried to oblivion that it was really dry and I could barely taste the meat. The taste and texture just did not sit well with me, especially for the price. So I was disappointed with that entree. My friend and I came here after we lost our reservation at another place and boy are we glad we came here. This place was excellent, from the food to the service. The ambience was nice - live music, fairy lights, and a semi-outdoor space with a heater. Great for a date night. We were quickly seated by a friendly and unpretentious staff. It felt like a neighborhood spot. Don't be deceived by the bar out front - they have proper seating in the back. And the food was really good - the kind I'd expect from a much fancier place in Manhattan. The dishes were creative, filling, and tasted wonderful. The ginger cauliflower was sweet with a kick, but light. The pop tart could be made without the foie gras. It was sweet and flaky. The tamale, which I requested without goat cheese, was unexpectedly impressive - an explosion of different flavors which harmonized perfectly with each other. Had dinner at The Hutton on Tuesday night and was not disappointed! The ambiance was very nice; they have an indoor bar area but definitely check out the courtyard. Plenty of booths and there's a huge tree in the middle wrapped with decorative lights. Let's start with service. All the waiters were very polite and friendly. However the service was on the slower side and one almost missed our dietary restrictions. Overall, it is nice that they have vegetarian and vegan options, but you should double check when ordering. Appetizers: - The cauliflower wings were superb, super good dressing and basically tasted the same as chicken. - The spicy onion rings were massive. Fried very well and tasteful. - Lemon fries were also very good. Note they can put dressings on the side to make it vegan friendly. Main: - Fried codfish was excellent. Fried perfectly. - Sweet potato tamale was ok. The plating was very intricate but it could be more flavorful. - Pan roasted salmon was cook very well. Slightly charred on top yet still juicy in the middle. The dressing was also delicious. Drinks: They have an extensive list of cocktails and a rotating selection of drafts. I live pretty close to The Hutton so I wish I could give it a higher rating (and would want to come more often generally). I remember the first time I visited, probably 3-4 years ago. At that time it was new and exciting for the neighborhood. Unfortunately, after several years, it's just the same thing over and over: overpriced and no updates. Literally the food hasn't been updated in years (I think I've seen some new drinks recently though). I believe initially they had seasonal menus but that hasn't been the case since my first visit. And for a hipstery establishment that charges so much for everything, that's pretty surprising. I'm not the biggest fan of the vegetarian food available here, and honestly I'm surprised at the limited options given what I assume is the target audience of this place. I do enjoy the brunch menu though. The service is always great so I appreciate that. And I love the back patio area with the booths - in the winter it's enclosed so when the heaters are going, it's perfectly cozy. And in the summer, it's such a good spot to chill. Overall, it definitely feels like a neighborhood spot. I'd give a higher rating if they update or expand their food menu, especially their vegetarian options. We went to Hutton for weekend lunch. We walked through their huge bar area to the patio. Its a wonderful outdoor area, covered with glass, so you still get to enjoy the sun and nature, without getting disrupted by rain or wind. We found out that they only serve brunch menu on weekends lunch hours. Dinner menu starts in the afternoon. We ordered several items. We loved the hangover sandwich, french toast (drenched in syrup), and the wings were the best! Sadly the dish I was looking forward the most, the naan sandwich was disappointing. It had a strong taste of turmeric, the huge breast piece didn't really fit into the naan, I'd have preferred it to be chopped. The chicken was also dry, due to slightly overcooked. Came in around 8pm on a Friday. Luckily, there were about 3 outdoor tables available. My friends and I have often had good lucky finding an outdoor table here, but the parking can be a pain. We parked three streets South, but the food is worth the trek. This night we started with the Brussel sprouts which were surprisingly shaven. It didn't list this on the menu, but it was a nice surprise. This dish is hearty and good as a fall option. My main dish was an amazing Mafaldine pasta in a creamy herb sauce. This portion was enough for two solid meal. They seem to rotate their pastas here and the menu is often changing. Consider yourself lucky to try this one. It is oily though, as I learned reheating it the next day. This is my favorite pasta and reminds me of the best part of the lasagne edges. For dessert we split a sponge cake covered with peaches, vanilla ices cream, and coconut. The cake had a mochi consistency, making it both surprising and dense. The wait staff here is always friendly but low key and never too present. It's low key and they have lots of events. Music and trivia nights seem to draw a crowd. The Hutton is a gem of a spot tucked away in The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City on a street that bears the same name. I called prior to my arrival to inquire about brunch and was told that they served brunch until 2:30p. The space is bright and the size is deceiving from the street. They have a back area that's an enclosed atrium with TVs and another bar as well as additional table seating. I sat in the bar area at a cozy booth that was sprinkled with a few high tops and deuces. Music was a mix of classic rock and indie. TVs had some sports on them but it didn't feel overbearing or like a sports bar. The menu was a nice balance of classic brunch fare but with The Huttons unique twist. Everything priced super reasonably, $14 bucks for a Romaine Ceasar. The Hutton Burger which I almost got was $19.00 served with bacon jam and your choice of hand cut fries or salad. What a deal! I wanted a dessert breakfast and some protein so I opted for their signature Bourbon Caramel French Toast and got a skirt steak cooked medium with no sides. Dan, my server was prompt, friendly and answered all of my questions. Big shout out to Dan for taking the time to accommodate my requests and make me feel at ease. Lovely service! The food came out quickly and was fantastic. The french toast hit all of the notes, sweet, savory, fluffy but not dry. Unfortunately, we went for brunch on Mother's Day and we were completely shocked that our sons chicken fingers were Raw inside! The waitress was very sweet and the rest of the food that came was fine. I am just very disappointed that we weren't credited a meal on our account or given a discount. We ordered a grilled cheese in its place and just figured they would take it off the bill. It is very concerning that they are serving raw chicken specifically on a kids menu. I came here on a Friday around 7. We had planned to just have drinks, but ended up getting food as well. The woman who seated us was very friendly. We didn't have reservations, but there were several tables open and we were seated right away. We sat in their outdoor patio area. It had lots of windows and a nice skylight. It was well decorated with string lights and had heat lamps available for most tables. The structure was built around a large tree which was also wrapped in lights and protruded out of the ceiling, creating a cool, art-meets-nature vibe. To drink, I had the Peter Piper. It was a jalapeno tequila cocktail. I would've preferred more spice and less sweetness. To eat, I had the sweet potato tamale. It was served with fresh tomato, avocado, and onion. The tamale itself was a bit dry and might have been better with a sauce of some sort. Overall, I appreciated the fancy presentation, but felt the dish could've used a bit more flavor. My boyfriend got the lamb cheesesteak, one of the specials for the evening. He was surprised that it was served on sliced bread instead of a hoagie, but said it was tasty. The fries that came with the sandwich were nice and crispy. In general, I felt this place was too pricey. Cocktails were $14 and most of the entrees were over $20, yet I didn't quite feel satisfied after my meal. It's a nice ambiance and I might try it again, but not in a rush to come back. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem. We made reservations but they weren't needed since there was ample seating when we arrived. The servers are very friendly and give good recommendations. The drinks are well made and made quickly. Food is really good from appetizers to dessert, everything was tasty. They have music playing but not too loud. If you are in this area and are looking for good food and drinks give this place a try. I will definitely return. read more

I've dined here a handful of times, so I think it's only fair I write a review. No parking lot, so if you're driving, you'll have to look for street parking. I've never had to wait for a table which is nice. Although, I will mention that on the one day I came for dinner, the service was abnormally slow. It took 30-40 minutes for our burgers to come out. Other than that, the service is relatively quick. Their menu is simple which makes ordering easy. Their impossible burger is refreshingly good; my boyfriend orders it every time over the normal burger (and he is a big meat eater). The steak and eggs on the brunch menu is good too, but be sure to tell them how you like your eggs cooked. Otherwise, they will serve it scrambled.
