This is an above average establishment near downtown Hillsboro. Very close proximity to Tuality health center (now OHSU) and the Pacific University Hillsboro campus. The staff is always incredibly friendly! Drinks are made quickly and efficiently. The seating area is moderately spacious, but the chairs aren't particularly comfortable. The atmosphere inside of the coffee shop is pretty simplistic and only moderately inviting. I ordered an oat milk latte and was pretty impressed. They even put a chocolate covered espresso bean on the top of your drink when it's ready! It's unfortunate that their restroom is locked and that you have to ask for a staff member to open it, but I suppose that's the climate of our current situation in this area. Definitely one of the better options in Hillsboro. If you have time, I still recommend going into Portland for the best cup out there. In the meantime, this will more than suffice. read more

I came in the drive-through and immediately the person speaking to me and taking my order was disrespectful and just had a really bad attitude, then I went came to the window to get my order and it was wrong and I told them it was wrong so they remade it, but when I received it, it was not right at all and the person that gave it to me had an attitude as well. OK, a few months ago, I had ordered a beverage and I had noticed that the team looked brand new. The drink I had ordered then tasted either very weak espresso or what I think, they had forgot to include the espresso. I wanted to give human bean the benefit of the doubt to fine-tune their operation, Instead of going to a business down the road that never disappoints. I thought I'd give them another try today. When I worked in Hillsboro for nearly 11 years I would slide in here regularly for meetings and happily sip a mocha and reflect how Oregon coffee life was better than my old diet Coke life in Arizona. The place was pleasant,the baristas friendly,and the coffee was ok. I liked the speckled chocolate bean that perched on my cup. For awhile it was slightly funky inside with a comfy couch and even sold some local crafts. I have a hippie girl fringed scarf and some dangly earrings to prove it. Also it was in the path to my mom's memory care facility and she liked the treats I brought. Things change though. The baristas got a little less friendly, I quit that Hillsboro job, my mom passed away, Human Bean refused to honor my old punch cards a couple years back when they got a new system, and we had a couple visits with not great drinks and breakfast sandwiches in a row. So it has been a while. I might have had a slight chip on my Irish Scorpio temperamental shoulder from them discontinuing my favorite Bluebird Bakery Oatmeal Cranberry cookie, too, just maybe. Today my offspring had an appt at OHSU/Tuality Hospital for a swallowing study and the poor thing wanted a smoothie to wash out the contrast they made the kiddo drink. So we swung through the drive through for beverages, Asiago bagels, and a bag of those speckled coffee beans. The kid loves those. Everything was really good. The baristas were efficient but not very friendly. It was a good visit. The bagels were warm and yummy. My blended vanilla mocha was perfect. Bonus: The coffee beans haven't changed. P.S. I've been both coming in here and going through the drive-through here with my family for years, but it never occurred to write a review because you're not supposed to do that for chains, right? That ridiculous stance of mine ends today. The staff here is always pleasant without being saccharine-sweet or overly effusive about it. Certain coffee chains here give you the impression that the cart is supposed to be wall-to-wall dance pop at all hours and that the staff is supposed to be OB-sessed with whatever you're doing at the moment. The Human Bean keeps it genuine and as pleasant as they can. They're on 10th and Oak FFS: They're trying. As for the coffee, I wish I could say I admire the roast and take it strictly in doppios or cortados. But that's not what I'm here for: I'm in it for what are basically caffeinated candy bars served with chocolate-coated coffee beans on top. They're marvelous, and they meet me in whatever season I'm at. I moved here from Dunkin' Donuts country and didn't think suburban coffee could get much tougher than that. When I moved out here and found out that coffee in Hillsboro was a spectrum that included an anti-vax coffee roaster in an industrial complex and a sexually abusive "bikini coffee" [eww] stand owner, I wanted to show a little more appreciation to the places that were getting it right. This Human Bean location has been just what I've needed more times than I should likely admit. Not every coffee shop in Hillsboro is worth your time--and many should be avoided strictly for one's personal health and safety--but this one warrants a stop. read more

I've always been pleased going to Human Bean, but they just upped the greatness - with amazingly cute little "puppicinos"! I just got a puppy & I walked up to the drive through to order a latte for myself. I asked if they had "puppicinos" and the staff person said sure! So they made an amazingly cute little puppicino of whipped cream and a doggie biscuit. How sweet! So my little girl had her first "puppicino" today. She liked it so much she thought my latte was a much bigger form of her puppicino & since she just learned how to sit, she tried sitting and looking up at my latte (expecting it was a bigger puppicino) :D For human beverages, I was pleasantly delighted by the abundance of alternative milks available too. The staffer mentioned they had coconut and macadamia (in addition to others), which are 2 that most coffee places do not have. The mac. milk was great! I'd highly recommend that for anyone who enjoys a creamy non-dairy latte. I also like that they always give you a little chocolate bean on your lid. It's a lovely little treat! read more

Great mango smoothie! Sweet and tart. I cannot recommend the chai however as it's made with a chalky feeling powder. So, sometimes they serve me decently good drinks. Other times they are way to sweet (even when I ask for less), or sometimes just not very flavorful. The Irish Cream Breve is probably by favorite. Their coffee tastes pretty good if you add in cream and sugar. In the end I would rather have Dutch Bros or Starbucks. I do really like that they offer a student discount. Just show an ID for $0.50 off any drink, even their $1.75 coffee, which makes prices very reasonable. Also, any 16 oz drink is only $2 from 5pm to 9pm. They have double punches on Wednesday. Also, very cute and delicious that they add that chocolate covered coffee bean to the top of the drink. I also like that this location supports local artists by selling some of their art in store. They support local organizations as well by providing a large bulletin board and seemingly being very open to posting flyers and allowing information to be left for customers. The people here are very friendly. There are a lot of outlets -- A MUST in my line of work. The coffee is good, and they give you a free chocolate covered bean! I just ordered a cherry scone. While not the best I've ever had, it definitely competes with Starbucks. The music is soothing and not loud. The customers chatter, but it is not overwhelming. Today will be the last time I waste my time or money to go to the Human Bean. I have been a customer for years and started going to the Bean in Beaverton on Murray over 2 years ago, what a great personable crew. Then I moved to Hillsboro and have to go out of my way to get a 20oz Latte which as of late has turned into spending $7 to get maybe 16 oz. When I complain they just give me some bullshit that I measured it and that's 20 oz. Well then why doesn't it fill up my mug? In the past I have had to deal with unfriendly barista's and now you can't even please the customer who use to come in everyday. The customer is always right, I guess they don't teach that any more. THe coffee is great, the service is great! I recommend trying the "Snowy Mocha" formerly known as "Snowy Mt. Ashland" named after a mountain in Southern Oregon where the coffee stand originated from. I love that you get a chocolate covered coffee bean with each cup. And, they have Smith Tea's (Portland, OR local) and they are delicious! This place was super cute! I love how they give you a chocolate-covered coffee bean with your drink. Barista was friendly and recommended the 'snowy' latte, which means white mocha flavoring. I have been to a thousand coffee shops and this is my favorite on the top of my list. Usually order in advance 15 minutes before I get there so the drinks will be ready faster( highly recommended.) the staff never seemed mind to help me with that. Pro: Compared to other places or even Starbucks, Human Bean has thicker coffee cups. It's more comfortable for people to hold. The lids are wonderful! You can close/ open the hole to drink, I don't see it very often . The prices are lower than other stores. Now you might start thinking the qualities might go down with the prices but hell no, their coffee smells stronger and taste fresher. I always order Green tea latte with soy milk and I never ever had a problem with lactose here. The staff are full of wonderful people. Busy but never forget to treat customers nicely. Needing a place to chill while I wait for my brakes to be fixed across the street, I have a choice... To the North a conglomerate coffee company, or to the South a coffee shop that's newer in the area (well newer to me). I must investigate. Walking in it's got that comfy cozy feel & I was greeted quickly as to what I wanted to order. I'm usually a plain coffee drinker (black, no sugar, & no cream), but opted for the monthly special "Muddy Snowy" (mocha with both white chocolate & milk chocolate)... Whoa! If you're into sweet drinks, this one should do the trick for you... One thing that impressed me (but is so simple) was the lids for the coffee. They have a little slider to open & close the sippy part & easy to sip from & you dont need to take your pen or pencil & stab a bigger hole in the little vent hole on the lid (I know you know what I'm talking about)... After recieving my drink & parking it in one of the leather chairs, I try not to fall asleep with the soothing background music. Had I taken the couch, it might have been lights out. I've visited this quirkly little coffee shop on a number of occasions. They offer a few pluses: drive thru, milk alternatives other than soy or rice, and for those who aren't allergic to coffee (yes, feel sorry for me) the candy covered espresso bean on top of every drink. They also give you a discount if you are a student and/or you bring in your own mug/cup (which they don't readily advertise). Their only really down fall is their customer service. They are consistent, however, it is consistently cold. I have yet to get a smile or a thanks for coming in from a single employee. Their drinks are good and they are actually more conveniently located to my college, but I would rather drive a little out of my way (and I do) to get the same quality drink and feel like my business was appreciated. Came in around 8 pm for my first time. It was around 8 pm on a Thursday and was pretty dead. One of the baristas looked like she was busy gossiping with another customer and there was one other older gentleman sipping his coffee in the corner. Another employee came out of the back to help me. I ordered a blended white chocolate mocha which is apparently called a snowy mocha at the human bean. He had it ready in less than a minute and added a big coffee bean on top. For $3.75 it's a fair price. I usually always leave a dollar tip at coffee shops but this place similar to Starbucks doesn't give you the option to add a tip on the receipt. read more

I ordered through the drive-up and about 45 seconds later was handed a cup of what must have been pre-made coffee and already warmed milk. I heard no grinding of beans, and only moments of steaming. If I have to, I'll drink a Starbucks or even a McDonald's latte (to ward off the dreaded caffeine headache), but I took one sip and threw this away. The human bean in Hillsboro is a neat little cafe. If your not in a hurry there's plenty of seating inside to relax and enjoy your drink. Deffinetly more cozy than a Starbucks(not to mention not as over priced either) and less packed on average. There's even free wifi at this location, it's common to see a student or two on their Mac book here. I've seen them post live music events before So eventually I plan to make it to one of these lol. The staff is almost always the same and generally provided fast and friendly service. Each drink has a chocolate like bean placed on top as a nifty little bonus.
