Idaho Huckleberry burger & garlic truffle fries

My brother (who lives in Oregon) is part of a Boise Food Finds page and often sends recommendations of new places in the area to try. He did not miss with this one! 10/10 in every way. Food was outstanding, the patio is wonderful, and I truly can't say enough about the service. Got to meet and talk with the owners, and wow - what lovely people to have in our community. Have already told friends they have to check The Hood out and will most certainly be back myself!

Stopped by here on the whim while we were walking to a nearby restaurant but decided to check out The Hood instead. Safe to say, we weren't disappointed! The Hood offers a unique menu, ranging from Korean fusion fries to a classic Oklahoma style smash burger. The food truck was manned by only one guy, who I assume is the owner himself. We didn't catch his name, but he was friendly and can cook up some great food! The Gochu Fries were yummy! But if I had to nitpick, I wish the fried chicken bits were as warm as the fries. The Oklahoma smash burger was also great! The patty had some crispy edges and still had a slightly pink center which is a sign of a legit Oklahoma burger in my opinion. All in all, I recommend checking out The Hood if they happen to be in your hood :)

Caught the Hood food truck when it was at the State street food truck area. Burgers and chicken and fries! We ordered the huckleberry burger. The pepper jam was mild in spicy level and the huckleberry really popped in with sweet flavor. I would highly recommend the burger and fries. Fries were salted just right and had enough crispiness that they were not limp. Salted just right! Thanks for all the thought and creativity that goes into your food!

The absolutely best fresh cut French fries from a trailer in Idaho, period. The loaded fries are over the top, but I actually prefer the simplicity of the basic fries offered. And delicious creative burgers. Not walking by this trailer anymore when I see it at an event to see what else is out there.

This burger was the bomb dot com. I've never had anything like it!

We've eaten at the food truck several times now, enjoyed their catering at a special event, and even had the owner privately chef for our family. We love experiencing all the different flavor combinations he creates, as well as how fresh the food is--most everything, even the sauces, is made from scratch! Depending on the meal and event, much of their food is sourced locally, grass-fed, and sustainably raised. Ten out of ten times, we love our food and the experience with the Hoods!

These are the best burgers in Boise. I had a bacon burger and I can't wait to go back. The service was great too!

Their Oklahoma smash burger is hands down the best--juicy, crispy-edged perfection in every bite.

My first time here, I tried the barbacoa, asada, and al pastor. They were... just okay. The barbacoa was incredibly dry, and the other tacos had a very unremarkable flavor on first bite. Salsa was definitely required to give it some kind of oomph. Should have checked because they only gave me one tiny lime wedge for 3 tacos. meh I might give it another try for fish, adobada, and cabeza or lengua. Not everyone makes everything great. I'll let you know what I find out. It covered outside seating is pretty decent, but it is in a parking lot abutted against a busy intersection. So the ambiance can be kind of meh, which is probably why so many people took theirs to go. They have buzzers you keep with you, so you know when your food is ready.

Such was the case with Tacos El Rey at the NE corner of Cloverdale and Ustick in Boise. The last time I stopped (on a Monday) it was closed. There wasn't any sign as to their times of operation. Tacos El Rey does have other locations in Garden City, Caldwell, Nampa and Meridian. The three tacos in the sampler were Cabeza (beef cheeks), Barbacoa (BBQ beef) and Carnitas (pork). The amount of meat was excellent on two, fresh street taco tortillas. The toppings were the appropriate onion and cilantro. The cabeza was delicious as was the barbacoa. I asked the young lady in the truck for their choices of salsa. She said green (tomatillo), red, something I forgot and habanero. Whoa! Habanero salsa is the real deal. It was an orange colored thick salsa (likely habanero and crema) and a very gingerly put 5-6 DROPS on the next taco. With other salsas, I normally just slop it on until it drips out the tortilla. Habanero adds pure heat and little flavor to the taco. The meat and toppings came through AND THEN the heat came later. WOW. My taste buds exploded with glee and my scalp was instantly electric (or at least sweating). I repeated the process with the 3rd taco and the effect doubled. This would definitely kill off a hipster. 30 minutes later, my scalp was still tingling, so I know there is new hair growth as a result. I will return to this truck, likely for a barbacoa burrito, of course with a request for the recipe for their habanero salsa.
