Came here for my birthday last Friday since it's a new fav! Had stuffed mushrooms with sausage stuffing for an app which was done well! Very tasty and buttery! For dinner I ordered the Breaded Veal Chop Caprese which has roasted tomatoes, mozzarella, pesto, balsamic glaze. This was amazing! Tender, crisp, tasty! It was gigantic also (see picture). I always like starting on a positive note. My server Samantha was great! I've always loved this place going back 20 years when it was a fishing pond to go fishing. The location is beautiful, serene, and elegant. But i did go to dinner and it wasn't good. I started with a french martini & I've had better. For an appetizer i had the stuffed mushrooms. Stuffed with shrimp and scallops in a light cream sauce. The mushrooms were very small & they gave you only 4. Dinner was seared Scallops snd risotto. The scallops were burned, very small andthe risotto was way too salty. I asked for a glass of chardonnay which was awful. There are so many good inexpensive chardonnay from California, Chile, Spain, Australian & even NY why serve this one. I always enjoy the environment but expect good food, spent $75., plus tip, still gave a 20% tip it's not the server's fault after all. What happen to chef John? I don't think i'll be going back anytime soon, sorry it's not worth the money . read more

I've been to the original Homestead restaurant as well as the original iteration of Hennings, which used to be in this spot. Old Homestead is a nice mix of both places where the menu is concerned (the restaurant itself is brand new). My party of four shared: + Cinnamon raisin bread - a relic from the Homestead, delicious + Caesar salad - ok + Pecan-encrusted trout - ok + Sliced Bella Bella duck breast - ok + Clam dip - ok + Lemon meringue cheesecake - awesome The food was a little hit or miss (the salad had a super garlicy flavor, and the clam dip came with saltines/crackers from a box, whereas I think it would have benefited from little toasts or homemade crackers) but overall it was good. The cheesecake was the highlight. They're also new, like I mentioned, so will give them some time to work out the kinks. Service was fine. I think if they work on the food a little more, this place can be spectacular. read more

We had a really fabulous experience this weekend at The Homestead! We were seated on the outdoor patio, and the view was just lovely. The grounds really are beautiful! Our meal was excellent, and we ordered pasta, scallops and a filet, cooked perfectly. But the most outstanding part of our evening was the fantastic service provided by Carrie-Anne! I have been in the restaurant business for years, and I know a great server when I see one! She was knowledgeable, attentive and just hilarious...which was appreciated more that she'll ever know! I gave it 4 stars because I ordered the duck, and unfortunately, it was dry. The waitress brought me more sauce and that seemed to help. The salad was very good and so was the dessert. I want to give this place 5 stars based on my previous experiences, but this time i have to go lower. The place is beautiful, modern yet cozy. The lounge is super nice and comfortable but has a very limited menu. the food this time was just ok. not great. The portions were extremely small, and the prices have gone up significantly. I of course will return but i hope this was just an isolated incident and not setting the tone for high prices and small plates and adequate food. That doesn't work for anyone. If you are in the area, i would definitely put this on your list. I would suggest making reservations, as sometimes they just don't have enough servers for walk ins. read more

So today was Pilar's Birthday and since she's been out of the country for two long months, I wanted to take her to dinner someplace new and super nice. The New Homestead at the Eldred Preserve it was. What a place!!! The grounds and buildings are stunningly beautiful! The dining room has a ceiling which appeared close to three stories high giving a sense of a massive space, yet we felt very cozy at our table for two. The various parts of the dining room were like pieces of artwork. Meticulously maintained and spotless! Dinner was exquisite and our server, Sarah, was 100% on the ball! Everyone was so nice and professional. Let's get on to the meal. We ordered a local wine and they brought out the perfunctory bread and butter, but this was no ordinary basket of dinner rolls. The basket was filled with warm, thick cinnamon bread slices and some sort of yummy walnut bread. The butter was served artistically as well. You can check their online menu for their scrumptious offerings. Based on what we dined on, I am sure the rest of the menu is equally superb! Pilar began with a delicious Clam Chowder, thick and teeming with yummy chunks of clam and I started with the Chicken Liver Pâté. Frankly, I'm not a liver man, in fact it disgusts me, but I was feeling bold and daring and let me assure you, THIS liver pâté was heavenly! It was served with Sesame Crisps and was truly yummy! For our main courses, Pilar decided on the Poached Salmon. It was perfectly cooked and flaked easily, but firmly, with the fork. The flavor was electrifying for lack of a better word. I asked for the Wagyu Flat Iron Steak with Potato. Any connoisseur of red meats will tell you that Wagyu is the finest cut of meat above all other cuts. I've never had it before, so today was the day! It was melt in your mouth tender. Outrageously flavorful are the words which come to mind. The accompanying mushrooms and onions were equally tasty as was the buttered potato. To finish our meal, Sarah presented us with a dessert menu brimming with yummy and innovative yummies to choose from. Amongst all the choices, there was one thing we just had to try: the Peach Crème Brûlée! Never had anything but plain Crème Brûlée and we do like this particular dessert, ergo we both ordered it. It was exquisitely delicate both in consistency and flavor. We finished with snifters of Blackberry Brandy. The platings were simple yet a feast for the eyes to gaze upon. First, the staff is always very nice and the space has a good vibe. That said, I have been there 4 times, and every time the food has been a disappointment. The lamb I ordered was medium rare, which should be pink, and it was over cooked. I complained and they said they would make another but it was the same. The braised ribs were also over cooked and the pork chop at $39 was super dry. For the cost of their food, they need to find a chef that knows how to cook meat. This restaurant and lounge is part of an elegant and modern hotel built into the gorgeous Eldred Preserve, here in northwest Sullivan County, near the Pennsylvania border. We stopped by for drinks and snacks. Although just one person was tending bar and waiting tables, it was quiet and the service was spectacular. She really knew her menu and her drinks. I had one of the local bourbons and she steered me toward and old-fashioned, which was very well made. My partner had a delicious cream-based bourbon cocktail. The French onion soup is a specialty. Not as oniony as what I make at home but otherwise well executed, with a thick bed of bubbly cheese atop a floating crouton and tasty soup. The truffle cheese fries are large wedges with lots of cheese. We also had the chicken liver paté, and caesar salad. All were nicely made. A bit pricey but worth it. Happy Hour ends at 5, which was when we arrived, but they gave us a round of Happy deals. read more

To start, the food was delicious. However, the service was horrible. We arrived at 6:25 for a 6:30 reservation, we were seated after 6:40, our waitress was clearly nervous, which is fine, take your time and learn, but please be attentive, or have someone helping you if you need help. My father's drink (a rye Manhattan straight up) came 2x wrong once with the wrong whiskey once on ice. The appetizers were fine, my scallop risotto was one of the best risotto's I've ever had (and I've been to Italy 2x) my father liked his steak and mother was happy with her pork. We asked for steak fries for and our waitress gave us steak frittes, this was the only mistake that was handled in a timely manner. We were celebrating my mother's birthday however because the service was so slow she was impatient to leave so we did not order dessert. We barely saw our waitress, and I had to flag down another waitress for help multiple times. We used to come to the homestead for years even before the fire. Such a tough review to give, as we've been raving about this place for years and have brought friends & family so many times, showing them that Sullivan County was finally boasting a world-class dining experience in a unique and breathtaking setting. Not anymore. Over the past several months, our experience has gone from mildly disappointing to downright frustrating. Something has shifted here. Is it a change in food purveyors who have not supplied even close to the caliber of products that used to grace the menu (and demand the prices), kitchen talent, or something else? The main culprit? The Meats. . . either wildly overcooked & dry or underdone and bleeding off the plate, and almost always riddled with so much fat and gristle that even the sharpest knife makes cutting into them a marathon task. We don't come to a place like this to work out our arms and break a sweat to put a piece of steak in our mouths. Even short ribs - the easiest meat to cook and basically falls off the bone - are so dry and hard that they stand up like dominoes in your dish. The cocktails are still wonderful, and the only reason we gave 2 stars in this review is for the exceptional & kind service from everyone on the staff. They go out of their way to treat you like cherished guests in their home. A special shout-out to Matt and Jackie here. I've always thought the Menu a bit odd and had the impression that the Executive Chef felt he had to show off with disparate elements in his dishes, but the preparations were impressive so we usually had a wonderful dining experience. Now it's just so much style-over-substance. And so not worth the price tag. I'm not sure we can defend returning to what used to be hands-down, our favorite restaurant in the region. I had two at the bar - one from each bartender. Each was very different from one another in consistency, volume, taste and each was about a B-. This is absolutely nuts. I even double checked the bill and asked the server if it was a mistake. They don't even use an orange twist; it was a chunk of an orange. And the overall service was about a C+. I want this place to pull it together and succeed as it's a beautiful place, but come on.... If you're going to charge me $26.50 for an old fashion it better be something pretty dang special, not some frat party quality drink with kids trying to play adult. Do better. read more

Family dinner last evening. Three of four enttees were good, my braised short ribs were dry and ver tough. The table behind us complained about the 2 specials. Very salty steak and burned scallops. The dining room was not very busy so I would assume the kitchen staff was not overwhelmed just not very experienced. The wait staff was very good, fast and accommodating. Service was absolutely horrible. Had a reservation and my party of 5 was not seated until 45 minutes after the reservation time (which was made three days in advance), and the restaurant was NOT that busy, there were open tables everywhere. This was after the hostess was extremely rude and condescending. It then took another 20ish minutes to even see a waiter/waitress, and then another 30 minutes to get plates, silverware, and water. It is clear that it is not a staffing problem, it is an attention problem. The food, although very good, does not make up for the fact that the service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. We sat at the lounge this time and got seated around 4pm. Our server didn't take our order until 20 minutes later. The food didn't come out for another 40 minutes, and we didn't order anything complex either. We waited a while for our dessert orders to be taken and for them to come out as well. We were there to wait for our sister's tasting for their wedding to be held there and they ended up finishing the tasting before we even got our desserts. We missed a tour we could've joined in on because of this. 3 stars is a good average for what I would've rated this experience and the amazing experience we had in the actual dining room the last time we were here. read more

Went back for my third visit last Saturday night with some trepidation and i will say third times a charm there was a tremendous improvement since last visit Bread was delicious and warmed up ! Homestead style clam dip had the right amount of horseradish to make it perfect. They also improved the portion size of the dip and even the quality of crackers from my last visit :-) It was Saturday night and very busy with a wedding to boot but the kitchen was not backed up and was able to handle normal expectations for proper timing of our courses. Caesar salad was most excellent And our dinners came out perfect for our entire party of four our waitress was world class professional , attentive, never felt rushed , great vibe and we will ask for her again Very happy experience read more

Restaurant week came in for first time. Best deal by far from here to NYC for Wagyu Aged Ribeye! Charred on outside by request & mr on inside. Best steak I ever had! Melted in my mouth. Salad much attention pair to local veggies prepped perfectly, my fav salad this summer. Perfectly executed house brownie! The breads were savory & sweet. Service was perfect, even the head chef came out to greet me @ talk with me & every table! This was a great & perfect restaurant week experience. It exceeded everyone expectation. OMG I didn't even mention atmosphere... this place is a total Adirondack experience here in the Catskills. Nothing compares, this is my new number one restaurant. Can't be beet. For the drive you end up on a vacation. The people next to me thought they were on a VIP cruise. This place has taken me to a wonderful place. Well worth the trip. read more

This is at least the fourth time we have eaten at The Homestead Restaurant and Lounge at The Eldred Preserve. We always considered the ORIGINAL Old Homestead in Bridgeville, Monticello, to be a "Special Occasion" dining experience, with outstanding food, service and attention. When the new restaurant opened in Eldred two years ago, we had high hopes. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, the restaurant itself is beautifully laid out. Unfortunately, the selection of menu options and the preparation of the dishes range from mediocre to downright terrible. My French Onion Soup was so disappointing. The entire bowl was crammed with mushy bread, leaving almost no onion soup at all. The cheese wasn't wonderful elastic Gruyere, but hard sharp cheese. My husband's pork chop was so dry it was barely chewable. Our friend's Grilled Octopus with polenta was a flat soup bowl with soupy polenta (looked like farina) with tiny pieces of Octopus floating in it. My mussels were very disappointing, so much stuff mixed in the bowl, not appetizing at all. The prices are quite high, which we gladly pay if the food is wonderful. It saddens us to say this, but it is doubtful that we will return to this restaurant. read more

So, I am happy to say, big improvement!!!!!! We were a table of 8. And everyone was very happy with their food. We went back to Pennsylvania and told all our friends. Let's talk about the food. Cinnamon bread and onion rolls came warm fresh and with soft butter. Beet salad and farmers salad also delicious. And their house French/Russian dressing yum. As well as their famous garlic dressing. Use to dip your bread in. The trout was fresh and moist. The wavy steak fantastic. 9$ for a baked potato. But I shared it. They ran out of banana cream and peach pies but the chocolate and pecan were good and the bread pudding. Waitress was so informative. Everything came out hot and exactly as ordered. It took a very long time for our food and to get our check-- so much staff but mostly staff that is filling water glasses, they need to have more waiters because ours was juggling way too much. We also waited about 20 minutes for our check. Food was decent but the experience needs to improve for the prices. Grounds are beautiful and decor is on point. But the food is not good. Everything tastes like I took a recipe and tried to make it at home- tastes ok at best - but there is no chef in the kitchen. Summer pasta was plain noodles like I make my kids with mushy under seasoned zucchini, strawberry salad was drowning is overly sweet dressing with strawberries and pecans which made it unbearably sweet, couldn't even tell there were veggies in there. Burger was dry and burnt despite asking for medium and salmon had no taste at all. It's really unfortunate because they are positioned so well to be amazing- except the chef is not good. read more

Ok. Having read the reviews to date, my expectations were rather low for the service. But I said to myself hey, you're not paying New York City prices, you can't expect New York City service. I'm embarrassed that I ever thought that way, because the food and the service were indeed New York City quality without being anywhere near as pricey. But more importantly, they aren't trying to be New York City. They are a Catskill tradition and they have done justice to their heritage. We were four people-each got an appetizer and an entree (and we shared two desserts). That's 10 opportunities for something to be less than perfect and, yet, everything was exactly that--perfect. The tuna tartar in particular was spectacular--unusual flavors but deliciously different. As for the entrees we had one halibut special (2+" thick with skin and still cooked exactly to order), and three different steaks (the filet, the Kobe flat iron, and the rib eye). Each of the carnivores tried each of the steaks and the consensus was that each was cooked exactly to order (rare side of medium rare!) and each was delicious. Having tasted them all, it's a real tossup. Even though I'm a filet fan and the filet was awesome, I think I have to go with the ribeye which was absolutely fantastic. Juicy, flavorful, and not requiring major surgery to excise the fat. The setting is amazing in and of itself. Beautifully manicured gardens, ponds, streams, and walkways. Great to walk around with a cocktail before dinner. The ambiance inside is equally spectacular. Choose between the outdoor seating (weather permitting, you can't do any better), the enclosed patio (quiet and scenic) or the main room (noisier but tastefully elegant without being pretentious--plus you can hear the live piano player). As for the service, our waitress was a home run. Pleasant, attentive, and accurate. Perfect amount of time between courses. We weren't rushed at all but we were enjoying the scenery so much between courses that we never thought the service was too slow by any stretch. In short, this as good as Sullivan County has now or has ever bad. And I've been eating up here for 45+ years. If you're looking to nitpick, you can probably find something wrong. But if you're looking to enjoy a great meal in a lovely setting and you have a modicum of patience, look no further. read more

I love going to the Homestead Restaurant-it is so pretty and as of a few weeks ago, the quality of the food really picked up! I wish they had a suggestion box so I could tell them(and not just my suggestions, but others have the same opinions), that they need to change their vibe. I was there last nite -Friday at 7:45 and the bar was empty! They have an old fashioned player piano playing show tunes and sleepy music-not hood for attracting a young crowd(and I am 60). Play some different music. They offer the clam dip that was famous in the restaurant that burnt down that they wanted to "recreate" and yet they only offer it on their menu for $14. Be a sport and put it on the bar! That was one of the things that made the old Homestead so popular and warm. There is no warmth at all in this place. We were all so excited when the place opened and don't get me wrong, it is beautiful and the food good but again there is a missing link. read more

We finally made it here and were delighted by the grounds, walking areas, and ambiance. The restaurant is equally impressive. The drinks were good. While the bread service was nice, we didn't understand the cinnamon bread for dinner. The salads had an unappealing sweet dressing. The tomato eggplant was quite good. The coconut shrimp was good but did not seem fresh, more like a frozen fried product. The trout was tasty, just a bit too much sauce. Unfortunately, despite letting the house know it was a birthday celebration, there was no attention whatsoever. We skipped dessert as nothing on the menu seemed special..more like choices from a NJ diner. Oh and the prices (which are not published) are on the high side which seems out of place given the overall food quality. Perhaps with time, they'll get it together. We've loved this gem and recommended it to many people but our experience this past weekend was very disappointing. The service was very slow and menu was uninspiring. The meals we chose were even more uninspiring. The green curry shrimp was completely bland and lacking in any salt, the duck was covered in do much sauce that the asparagus and fingerling potatoes were drenched as well. The branzino was pedestrian. I hope it was a one off experience. I would gladly pay more for the meal to match the unique beauty of the venue. Otherwise, I'll just stick with sliders. read more

We were so pleased with The Homestead while staying at The Bradstan. The food was fantastic, but the service was even better. We ate here twice and went to the lounge three times. One of the nights we needed to eat late. We called to ask if they would serve us late, and Nadia told us to come right in despite their hours saying the kitchen was closed. A beautiful venue with potential, but they need to get their kitchen up a few notches. Our duck and tuna steak were good quality but no one asked how we wanted both served-- when I asked after we received them (both just to the point of being overcooked) I was told the "kitchen serves these medium rare". Really? Do they do that with the steaks too, just assume what people want? Servers are very pleasant but are not yet used to dealing with volume so are a bit overwhelmed. I wish them all luck and hope to give it a try again in a few months after things get settled as they opened just a month ago. read more
