The advisor they laid off had been with us from the beginning, doing the walk through of our house, making many very helpful recommendations. She was very available when we needed her, showing us around the Portsmouth, NH showroom. She had a lot of valuable experience to bear. If some follow up products were needed she had them delivered efficiently! After she was gone we wanted to return some items that we no longer needed, but Ferguson refused, even though they were still in their original packaging. Fortunately for her she was immediately hired by F.W. Webb. Unfortunately for us, we no longer had a Ferguson staff member who demonstrated interest in our project.

This was a very nice two floor display of different fixtures from the basic to the sublime. We were able to order what we needed and our plumber picked it up two weeks later. Don't go if you're looking for cheap. It's been over a year and the shower continues to satisfy our needs. Service was excellent.

Prepping the gas, starting it throughout the summer months and letting it run, checking the oil. Despite all this, when the big day came to use the snow blower, it wouldn't blow snow, just start and stall over and over and over. As everyone knows, if you live in Maine you need to have a way to remove snow, especially if your driveway is as long as ours. So I started calling around and every repair place was booked out by at least 4 weeks. Luckily I found Sportsman's through word of mouth and they can to pick up our snowblower ($15 pick up and $15 drop off). They repaired it within 3 days! We had a storm the following day and BAM snowblower repaired and working better than ever. It even came back with an EXTREMELY detailed repair report which I appreciate! I highly recommend this place for their prompt turnaround times and responsiveness!

In the second area he lingered a few feet behind me for a long time after I found the area I needed: which I noticed, thought was strange, and I got the sense that he was trying to be intimidating. Then another costumer needed help finding something so he walked a away for less than a minute. Then he returned & continued eyeballing me. Very obvious and intrusive. After I found what I needed I walked to the front, and when I passed him I said; "You watching me like a hawk?" His reply was "yeah". I've been followed around in stores before, and I really don't like being profiled. But he admitted what he was he was doing which is accusing someone of being a thief by de facto. I'm not a thief, and have never stolen from a business. I voiced my protest to the guy at the front of the store. I really don't like leaving reviews that are negative because it affects everyone there. But when there's a employee who acts like that I'm sure the business owner would want to be aware. I'm almost 50, have never stolen from a business, and really don't like being treated like that.

My (very) adult female friend told me she would ask an employee to assist. She went to the counter and asked the young man (with a reddish beard) at the cash register if someone could help us with the screws. The employee called out to another man working there, saying, "This woman needs help with a screw!" Then, laughing, he added in an equally loud voice, "You know what those are, don't you?" The two men laughed, as did the woman who was working the other cash register. Other customers witnessed this exchange. It was an ugly and humiliating display. It was deeply offensive and I'm unsure why a customer (female or male) would be treated that way. There are two things, however, that I am quite sure of. First, she and I, of course, will never enter this hardware store again. Second, we will not be timid about letting our friends and acquaintances in South Portland and neighboring Cape Elizabeth know how Drillen Hardware demeans women.

One can't get that attention at a big box store, even if the aisles are wide. That said, there are better stores for some items, but knowing where to shop for what is a customer's responsibility. I really like the convenience, friendly staff and good quality of merchandise at Cooks, and highly recommend them - no reservations at all if you plan your shopping intelligently.

They have a large selection, but it lacks diversity; most of the colors are muted. You won't find preppy pinks and greens or Lilly-Pulitzer inspired patterns. While I didn't find what I was looking for during my recent visit I have bought curtains from them in the past. They allow you to return opened items (I think within 30 days). Prices aren't that competitive compared to online but it might be worth it for convenience and supporting a local business when the price difference isn't too great. They also sell throw pillows, shower curtains, bedding and other decor.

We did an addition recently and our painter and others highly recommend Benjamin Moore paint. This…read morestore is easy to find in SoPo and has easy off street parking. Inside it has more than average amount of paint swatches and collections of paint to help narrow down your colors. I went in a few different times and the guy working there was nice. They of course have tons of paint related items and I found it super helpful to buy the kits with foam boards and mini rollers so I could apply my sample paint to several large squares that could be affixed temporarily to my wall at home rather than paint all over my new drywall as we decided our colors. I have only two complaints- 1) the only sample size here is ridiculous- it's way to large, unless I plan on painting an entire wall to decide, I'm wasting paint and they are quite expensive compared to other smaller sized samples from other stores (and believe me, the cost adds up quick if you get multiple samples!) 2) we chose our color based on the formula on the sample, which when our painter got our paint, it ended up needing to be repainted due to the color being wrong compared to the sample. This was fixed later and figured out by our painter with Maine Paint and we were lucky enough that the second coat covered the wrong color well. The right color is beautiful. All in all I'd recommend the paint and give this location another go, but they appear to need to work on their mixing consistency. The color should be the same no matter which Maine Paint you go to and what sample you get!
