Wow, this is truly a hidden kitchen, hidden gem here in Cambria. The waffles are really, really good! They're huge too & easily shareable between two people! I loved the texture and flavor, we got a savory one with egg, some kind of like chipotle, mayo sauce, which was their house sauce, bacon and oooohheeeee, it was all very delicious. I kind of wish that they were a little bit smaller because I would be able to get one sweet and one savory, but maybe if you go when you're really, really hungry that's an option! We also got a protein smoothie, which was overflowing - thick and yummy. Again, it was way too much food, but they don't skimp on quality - how often can you say that you were served TOO MUCH of anything these days!!! The location is tucked away behind the main street, and there is plenty of seating. Albeit, most of it in the blazing sun. This was our second time visiting. The first time we only had a smoothie because we discovered it was open and we had already had breakfast somewhere else so I was determined to come back. The menu sounded so delicious. We had the blue waffle, corn Laurel melt topped with avocado bacon Turkey & secret sauce and grilled onionsit is hidden for sure the service was pretty quick but they sure do get busy while we were there. Nice music playing just a real peaceful vibe. I didn't want to leave.I want to eat more and just hang out so I could wait for my next meal. The Hidden Kitchen is amazing. I happened to be strolling by with my kids during our visit to Cayucos, and I ordered us three smoothies from their sidewalk window. Deciding which of the incredible-sounding items from their menu to order, I just went with smoothies because my kids weren't very hungry at that moment. They were THE BEST smoothies I've ever had! They were amazing- rich fruit flavor and dense, cup-clinging consistency right down to the last spoonful. I can't wait to visit again and order a whole bunch of everything. The oil on the eggs, bacon, avocado and HK sauce had me full very fast. The coffee also has butter and MCT oil. We found this place on Yelp and after driving past it a few times, we finally parked our car in a small, free parking lot which turned out to be in front of the establishment. Like its name, it's really "hidden" lol. Past the wonderful flower murals we walked and entered into what seemed like the backyard of a house. After figuring out what to order, we sat on one of the few benches under shade and awaited our creative waffle meals. I got the Cayucos Cowboy ($15)- A blue corn waffle topped with Hidden Kitchen sauce, black beans, two fried eggs, , avocado, cilantro and green salsa. I thought this meal was just alright. I felt that the waffle was kind of dry and the toppings really didn't add to the flavor of the overall dish. The house sauce wasn't very memorable to me. But it was very filling and I'm sure a healthier version of the waffle you'd normally get in a restaurant. My husband got the San Luis Sunrise ($15) - It came with a fried egg, bacon ends, Hidden Kitchen Sauce and an avocado. I was helping him eat the bacon bits because they gave him so many and it was such a nice addition to my meal! But I liked my flavors more because his tasted a little bland. The Kitchen Sauce wasn't making the dish better. Bacon by default makes most things taste better so I don't want to factor that in. Overall I wasn't super impressed with this place, but I got a savory waffle, not a sweet one. Their sweet ones may be made differently. I'll have to try this place again in the future. Bathrooms are located in the parking lot and were cleaner than I thought it would be when we used them! I would still sanitize your hands after you're done, though. Again... dense waffle+ sauce+ avocado+ egg ended up being a gooey thick dense bite every time. I'm kicking myself for not trying this place sooner, even though I visit the neighboring restaurant Robins often. The Cambria location of Hidden Location is tucked away behind Robins. It has a little kiosk to order and make food, and tables and benches laid outside with plants and shade. Pre-covid, it would be the perfect place to eat lunch or breakfast and relax and read in the sun. I'm currently only getting takeout from places, but this establishment had numerous safety measures in place. The staff wore masks, and so did the customers when not eating. Signs on tables indicate which are clean or which were recently used and need to be sanitized. They care about safety! I ordered the Cass Crunch waffle. The base is a gluten free blue corn waffle which has a cool blue hue. When I tasted a bare corner, I got the faintest taste of corn, but the toppings hid the taste for the rest. Texture wise, it's soft and fluffy like a wheat waffle! The almond butter, granola, and maple syrup toppings were delicious. The fig jam was too sweet for me but I have a sensitive palate. The waffle was huge! Almost the size of a dinner plate, so that and the toppings make a great full meal. I also got the Bishops buzz smoothie. The smoothie has a strong bitter coffee taste (nothing like the faintness of a Frappuccino so beware) with notes of banana and almond. It's a great drink when you want caffiene but something more filling than plain coffee. I went at 11am on a Monday and there were a decent amount of customers so plan ahead! Visited here while staying up in Big Sur. My wife is GF and this was a perfect breakfast/brunch spot. They also allow dogs!
