My husband and I usually have a great experience whenever we go here but the last time we went we're were very disappointed. The brisket was tasteless and the smoked turkey wasn't very smoky. Also they messed up my order and then when they brought the correct items, my biscuit had hairs on it. :/ Everything else was great! I was excited to check this place out while in town; however, was rapidly disappointed. I agree with several other reviewers that this is probably the worst service I've had in a long time. The wait time to even order drinks let alone food was crazy. They really weren't that busy either as we went in shortly after 5pm. The food took forever and most of us just had pulled pork sandwiches or salads. The food itself was average in my opinion as the pulled pork was fairly dry and flavorless. The spicy bbq sauce they have on the table was quite tasty though. Even if the food were great, I still would avoid this place due to the service issues. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating. The pulled pork and sweet potato fries were delicious but the ribs were dry and overcook. Restaurant was clean and also hard to find. Talked to the manager and he was understanding and actually made efforts to listen on how to slow cook the ribs better. read more

The appetizers, while not terribly high in quality, are honestly the best thing on the menu along side the amazing lemonades concoctions you can create. Their desert is also surprisingly good as well, however their burgers are extremely dry and tasteless. If I ever return, it would be for their lemonades and desserts. read more

I love The Hickory. Their food is so good. I love their fried pickles Their onion rings are awesome so are the french fries. All their dipping sauces are amazing. Burgers are great. I normally get the chicken fried steak it's my favorite with mashed potatoes and baked beans. I feel like the baked beans are over looked but they are delicious! Or I get the mac and cheese. The meal is served with a hot fresh biscuit that I smother in butter and honey. So good!! The peach lemonade is my all time favorite drink. Why you wait for your meal you can snack on free peanuts. The only thing I was not a fan of was the baked potato and once we got cold fries but when we told our waitress she replaced them with piping hot ones and apologized and was super friendly. read more

Two stars because the burger I ordered was actually really really good. We ordered chili cheese fries, they came out with only chili (tasted like it was from a can) on them and so we sent them back and cold gross clumpy melted cheese was put on about 10 minutes later. They didn't remake the fries so at this point it was just a pile of soggy fries. The service was absolutely terrible. Our server blamed everything on the kitchen and told us over and over how much they mess up her orders and how terrible they are. I don't care how much she didn't like the kitchen people but don't tell me about your problems while I'm trying to eat! Once our food was there she only checked on us once and that was for the chili problem. Had to track down other staff because she was no where to be found. read more

The food was decent although I didn't think the potato bomb was the bomb. Should have had more sour cream. I almost had to search the potato for it. The salad was clearly just out of a package and seemed to have been the packages leftovers as it was showing signs of being out in the air for a while. Also several people in our group received only half or wrong things in their order. After asking we did get everything we had originally ordered. It's okay to go to but not spectacular. read more

The hickory used to be so good. Every year when I come back to school I always eat at the hickory. It was one of my favorite restaurants here. However, today was my first day back since they moved locations and I was so incredibly disappointed. When I got my pulled pork sandwich with fries everything was straight up cold. And I noticed that they changed their fries, they used to have these amazing fries that came with fry sauce. Now their fries are basically steak fries you could buy in the frozen section at Walmart. Not only were they cold but they were soggy as well. As for my pulled pork, it was dry and tough. I was so sad eating my dinner tonight because I was expecting the same food I've gotten since 2015. It just simply isn't good anymore. Some advice hickory bring back your fries and fry sauce and please don't serve your customers food that clearly has been sitting there for awhile getting cold. read more

I have pretty much stopped eating here. it used to be a must eat place when I was in town, but the last time, the only thing that was good was the service. This is probably one of the nicest places in town. It's more on the pricey side, but worth the money for the quality. We go to the Hickory when we have something to celebrate, and the food is delicious every time. The sodas are fun- we are hooked on Americanas Honey Cream soda. Sweet potato fries are good. Mac N Cheese balls are tasty, but hot like lava on the inside and wish they came with more in an order. Pulled pork is the go-to, and the sauce is pretty good. If you're ever visiting Rexburg, The Hickory should be top of the list! read more

Once a year I invite my childhood friends to Rexburg to a weekend of fun. It also involves going out to lunch for great food. Last year we had a great experience at the hickory. We went back today and had a very disappointing experience. My friend had the worst service I've ever seen and it really put a damper on our weekend. He ordered a brisket stacker with onion rings on the side. They instead brought out fries. Not a big deal, they brought out the onion rings. He then took a bite of his sandwich, stopped and looked at the inside of the sandwich and found the meat to be completely burnt. Not charred brisket edges but complete burnt underside of the sandwich meat. The waitress asked how the food was and my friend reluctantly brought up the issue with the sandwich to which she agreed was overly burnt. She said they would bring out another sandwich. It came out and he took a bite and realized that it was the wrong sandwich. It was a pulled pork sandwich. She asked how the new sandwich tasted and he let her know that it was pulled pork. She then told us it was brisket. We reassured her that it wasn't, but my friend said it wasn't a big deal and just asked for a box to go. He didn't want to make a scene and just wanted to be done with this weird occasion. The waitress then brings out a plate with brisket and pulled pork to show us the difference between the two. I had taken a bite of his sandwich just to make sure it was pulled pork and sure enough it not only looked like but tasted like pulled pork. My sandwich had brisket on it and it was obvious that it wasn't brisket on my friends sandwich. I'm okay with a meal that gets screwed up. It happens. But to try and insult our intelligence after they messed up his meal three times in a row was too much. It's a shame, I liked this restaurant before but doubt I will go back. If a bbq restaurant doesn't know the difference between brisket and pulled pork, I would be nervous to go there. read more

Their consistency seems to be off. Friends recommended to Hickory so I took my wife there. She ordered a burger which she liked, while I ordered the brisket. WORST BRISKET I HAVE EVER HAD! It was terribly dry and over cooked. I love this place and Blisters just so you have a frame of reference if you've been to Blisters here in Rexburg. Prices are more then blisters but I think they food is better on most items. It's hard to point out a favorite since it depends on the mood. I do have one thing I haven't been as impressed with and thats the fries. I always get the food to go and without fail, within the 5 min drive they are cold and greasy. I would like to be able to order burgers without fries at a lower cost. I know some people who LOVE the fries but for me they are ok. The S burger (it's a burger and the buns are 2 grilled cheese sandwiches) is GREAT! The grilled cheese is made perfectly and then to have a burger between is even better. It's like the ultimate cheese burger. I also have the bacon BBQ burger and really liked that. (Theres an onion ring on it just so you're not surprised). I haven't had %100 consistency with the burgers though when it comes to the patty. Once it was a bit greasy and while eating it, it was dripping a fair amount and other times I've had it and there's been not grease. I enjoyed them both, just a bit messier. Also, ribs are expensive but great! I would order an extra side and just make it a meal for 2. They give you a HUGE rack of ribs that take a whole to go box plus+ so keep that in mind bc i believe it was $20. I recommend it. Just go early if you want to eat in bc it's always busy on weekend dinner hours. read more

Great local BBQ spot with excellent service. The portions were huge. I took in the ribs, chopped BBQ and brisket. All were great, but the loaded potato was majestic. Being from the South, it's hard to find a comparable Mac and Cheese, but they do have a Carolina BBQ sauce. Great stop to visit before visiting the parks. read more

Horrible service. Every time I went I had to go up and ask for a refill myself because the waiters are too busy standing around. They always mess up my bill or my orders. The food is never consistent, even when you get the same thing every time. We used to go every week, but it's not worth it anymore and I always end up leaving upset. I would give this place zero stars if I could. We told the host 5 people plus a baby. He sat us at a table for four people. We got our drinks quickly and placed our order. 15 min later the waitress comes and tells us they are out of pulled chicken for the day. Mind you it is like 12:15. I opt for the smoked turkey... out of that too. So basically I can get pulled pork, a steak, or a burger. So I ask for a menu. 15 min later she comes back to take my order. So we have already invested 30 min in this outing. Keep in mind we have a 3 yr old, a 2 yr old, and a 4 month old hungry and ready to eat. So another 25 or so min go by and I ask where our food is. I told the waitress it's been 40 min or so and we still don't have food. She tells me she was just about to go check. 10 min later she starts bringing our food out. My daughters Mac and cheese is cold. My sons corn dogs are still frozen, my husbands pulled pork ice cold. Thanks for wasting an hour and a half of my day Hickory! Never again! read more

My husband and I arrived at 4:40, thinking we had enough time to eat before our movie. We ordered right away along with our drinks. We waited 50 minutes before we asked to just get the bill for our drinks because we were going to be late for our movie that was 10 min later. You would think that going into a restaurant and to get out in an an hour would be a reasonable expectation. Especially a Barbecue restaurant(where things are usually slow cooked before being ordered), also we just ordered simple sandwiches with no modifications. Our waitress was not knowledgeable, but I do not blame her. A family of six was seated 20 min after we came and got served before we even asked for our bill. I am a little upset that we were even charged for our drinks, and was not given a sincere apology for making us wait over an hour. Even when we asked for our bill, that took forever! Side note: They were not even busy. When we were seated, only one party of four was in our room. I really wanted to like this place. It is very cute, and my expectations were so far away from met. It was our anniversary dinner, and we ended up going through a fast food drive thru. read more

My family and I use to come here all the time when they first opened, like a once a week type of thing. Then we stopped going so much because the service started to become really bad, the servers were not friendly and the food took way too long. We have gone back a few times with family and friends because they wanted to, and let me tell you it only got worse every time. One time we went someone in our group found a long strand of hair in their mashed potatoes, my food was cold, and to top it off they took about 50 min to make our food. The server hardly refilled our drinks and didn't even really apologize for the hair or the long wait. Another time we went back after that the service and food was so bad I told my family I would never go back, the server was rude, food took way to long, and the food was horrible, the mac and cheese use to be my favorite thing there, until they changed it and added horseradish sauce to it, I couldn't even eat it! The green beans tastes like they are out of a can, and the mashed potatoes tastes like instant ones. I could make better mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese at home. I don't think I will ever return here it's just not worth the bad food or service, even if there are hardly any other options in rexburg. read more
