This place is so cool! The interior is very heavy metal/hard rock/Ozzy Osborne (queue the bat headless bat reference) so it went well with our desire to attend another "Halloween" bar. We had already eaten, so didn't order pizza, but it looked and smelled amazing! I'd like to taste it next time. We had drinks and I had the pickle margarita, which apparently is quite popular. For me, it wasn't salty enough and had more of a bread and butter pickle vibe, which is not what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a salty dill flavor. Ok so i used to live nearby and was visiting an old friend and wanted to bring takeout home for my partner and i. I wanted something opened past 10:00pm on a week night. So this place came up on my yelp search. I was delighted to find they had vegan cheese AND gluten free crust! (WHAT) I only know of 3 other places in STL that do! Anyway iI added my toppings and ordered my partner an 18" beer cheese, jalapeno and pretzel crust pizza (also what?) So it took me a minute to find the building and a parking spot so when i picked the food up It didn't feel too hot but i drove the 15 minutes to my new house with the heat on full blast! It still wasn't super hot but the best part was...IT DIDNT MATTER! The pizza had such a great flavor and my 10" gluten free with vegan cheese had SO many toppings and a lot of cheese! It almost felt like a REAL pizza. And my adorable partner was in LOVE with the pizza he chose. Although it also had jalapeno peppers on it and he did mention they were on the spicier side. He ate 3 pieces and when i was packing the rest up for later i could smell the spicy! Overall the pickup, interaction and total experience was great and the food tasted great! This place gets better every time I visit! They have very unique (and delicious) specialty cocktails and the pizza is to-die-for. The Blood Moon is a favorite cocktail of mine and while I love allllllll of the pizza, the Thai curry is nice for something different than you can get anywhere else. Sweet decor, horror films on the TVs, range of beers with a full bar and a few specialty cocktails. The pizza had a nice and chewy crust... and before you ask, yes, pineapple always belongs on pizza. (May 2025) The Headless Bat is situated off Morgan Ford on what I call the "food alley". You will only find street parking as there is no dedicated parking lot to the restaurant. My friend was visiting from out of town and for his first night here, I wanted to take him to The Headless Bat. It was right up our alley and a place I'd been wanting to visit for some time. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was very attentive and welcoming. We absolutely loved the drink titles and ordered Angel Dust (me) and Gremlin Tit (him) respectively. When I took a sip of my drink, I was instantly blown away by how crafty their cocktails were. The Angel Dust had a Serbian plum brandy, Italian vermouth, cherry bark vanilla bitters, simple syrup and luxardo cherry. I was not expecting that from a metal pizza joint. I was honestly expecting beers, burping and pizza! We shared a Rattlehead pizza which is an 18" pizza with salami, pepperoni, pepperoncini, red onion, Italian herbs and garlic aioli. My friend, the true adventurer wanted a side of Murder Spice which I am sure is on the Hot Ones show level and something I could not tolerate too much of personally. When the pizza arrived, it was piping hot and had a great cheese pull. The slices are huge, so we only ate 2-3 each and took the rest home. We finished our visit there with the most amazing dessert cocktail - their Oreo Fernet Shot (fernet menta infused with Oreo cookies). We could have easily had 4 of those shots but someone had to drive us home! I will send all of my friends there whether local or from out of town! Didn't try the food, just came for drinks. I had the Angel Dust which was really good. I thought it was a little pricey for what it was, though. We sat at the bar, and the service was great. The place wasn't too busy. The atmosphere is so cool. It's heavy metal themed, and I appreciate their dedication to the theme. I was hoping more for some hair metal, but it was a little heavier than that, which was fine. I loved the decor. If you're faint of heart or easily offended, you might not appreciate the decor as much as I did. Overall, unique place. I'll be back to try the food. read more

The food and drinks have some pretty metal names like 'Creeping Breath' pizza with garlic cloves, sausage, onions and peppers. Or what about the 'Blood Moon' cocktail with Encrypted vodka, St. Germain, litchi, lemon, simple, and blood orange. That one was my favorite! I was excited to go to the Headless Bat after seeing pictures of it online. Unfortunately, when my food arrived my excitement soon turned to disappointment. I ordered two slices of pizza with black olives and jalapenos, and my wife ordered a slice of cheese pizza. The waitress brought three slices of cheese pizza and explained that I could sprinkle on cold jalapenos from a cup she brought as a topping. The black olives were completely forgotten. Our appetizer arrived after the pizza and was not anything like what was described on the menu. Staff seemed more interested in chatting at the bar than making sure guests had what they needed. We went to The Headless Bat on July 6 to celebrate my birthday. I'd never been there before and they supposedly have a good pizza menu. Arrived at 6 PM and there were few people in the restaurant, but only 2 employees - Kitchen and bar. While we were seated immediately, it took a while to get table service from the bartender. We ordered drinks, which took a while as we listened to Ozzy Osbourne music played pretty loud. Hard to talk. Ordering food was a task, as the waiter/bartender had to keep telling us what they were out of. I guess they got hit hard by holiday crowds and ran out of supplies. Instead of ordering a specialty pizza we settled for large single slices for $7.50 apiece. It was okay, but not worth the per slice price. We finished our food - it took a long time to bring it, despite a low crowd, due to not enough help. Perhaps we just caught them on a difficult night after a holiday weekend, but this place did not live up to their reputation. We will likely not be back. So many good pizza places in St. Louis, but this is not one of them. read more

This was my first time here. It won't be my last. There's heavy metal music playing, great decorations on the wall, and really good drinks. There's a rotating beer menu that's pretty impressive. Headless Bat has the absolute best pizza my husband and I have tasted. The pies are truly unique and we have tried almost every single offering, and make sure we get there to try every special pizza whenever there is a new one. We live in St. Louis County but never mind the drive to get a delicious meal. The whole pies are great to have leftovers, and the slices are a great deal for when we want smaller portions or can't decide and want variety in a single meal. The staff is wonderful and always gives great, friendly service. The decor is fantastic. I find something new every time we go that I hadn't seen before, and we love sitting at the bar to watch the horror movies. The Headless Bat exceeded expectations on every level! Immediately upon entering you're transformed into the most alternative, metal loving hangout you've ever seen. Munster & Elvira themed Pinball machines, scary movies on the tvs, movie & band posters galore and a metal sound track playing at a respectable, still head-boppable, level. The staff was friendly and welcoming, we were offered the bar or a table and were sat right away. The menu is simple but offers a wide selection of beer, cocktails and pizza by the slice flavor options or build your own full pie. I was slightly fearful if ordering a slice we'd be in and out in no time but we were severed drinks quickly, then had a comfortable wait for food. Had the headless bat for the first time after seeing some hype. I think the word to sum up my experience would be fine. I enjoyed the food, but was not blown away. I had a slice of the monthly special which is a jalapeno popper pizza. It was good. I would have liked a bit more of the cream cheese. But, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the dough. They have gotten it right with the perfect thickness for a pizza, in my opinion. Additionally, the dough is dense enough that the pizza has some weight, but light enough for it to tear apart with minimal effort. I also had some Thai curry wings. The wings were nice and crispy on the outside. The crunch was amazing. But, they did not have the flavor I was hoping for. The Thai curry sauce was pretty good (average) but there was not much on there. I think the thing that sets Headless Bat apart are the vibes. I am not a heavy metal fan, but I think it is special to walk into a place whose identity has been forged by someone's life long passion. You can feel the heart and soul that was poured into creating such a specific ambience. I think there is something special about that and wished I could experience it more. I do not like metal, but I appreciate someone sharing with me their love for metal. Lastly, we have the service. To be honest, it was not the best. I always want to give servers the benefit of the doubt as the service industry is a ruthless one. Once we ordered we were not visited again until our food came. It took about 35 minutes to get 2 slices of pizza and 6 wings to our table. My suspicion is because it was a speciality slice because people that were sat after us got their food before us and they were full, but not overwhelmingly busy. In any case, maybe we just caught our server on a rough/bad night. All in all, I was not blown away but the headless bat. I definitely enjoyed the food do not get me wrong. As aforementioned, it just did not knock my socks off. Would love to go back and try some more specialty slices, they look good. And once again, that pizza dough is the star. read more

I've been twice in the time they have been open and both times were good. The first time we sat in the bar area. Was a little loud, but nice. And the music isn't overpowering at all. Great metal hits from all eras. (Not the biggest metal fan but I found it more than enjoyable.) The wings are really good. First time we got 6 but ordered 12. That staff was apologetic so no issue. The buffalo wings were amazing. So saucy and Just the right amount of bite. Paired perfectly with their ranch. Second time the wings were less saucy and not as good, but just ask for em saucy and I bet they'll make it happen. We also ordered the Thai cutting wings and they are SO GOOD. Highly recommend those. Perfect curry flavor. Definitely be getting those when we go back. We ordered the same pizza (bacon and pepperoni) but added garlic the second time and that made all the difference. Get the garlic. This place is fantastic. Awesome ambiance and decor, great vibe, pizza and wings are LEGIT, beer menu is , and the entire staff is accommodating beyond measure. Taylor took care of our party of 10 (!!!) last night and made it look effortless. Shelby seated us and checked in on us, and she was equally fantastic. Their specialty pizzas were delicious, and the runaway surprise hit was a good ol' sausage and pepperoni! Bear in mind that this IS a metal bar and the music is loud. I'm not at all a metal fan, but I'll be back because this place checks all the boxes AND offers a unique and fun experience. Did I mention they have four pinball machines, too?! Was told the pinball machines worked, and then one ate my dollar. Three kinds of 3 Floyds on tap is the saving grace, but they ruined that. What a promising new spot on the MOFO strip!! The atmosphere was super amazing as they were playing actual metal and showing Elvira movies! They are brand new so the pizza is still a work in progress but again, super amazing start! Right now (or at least last night) the menu was slices only, no substitutions with a small selection and there was mention of running out or low on pizza due to demand...but hey, it's great for them that business was more than expected on opening week! Staff was super friendly and welcoming while the artwork and lighting was nice and dark. :) I can't wait for them to iron out the kinks and see what they become! This place is definitely a mood! They have a horror/metal theme. There is a lot of dark decor around the bar. I came here around 7:10pm. on a Friday night to find every table taken. We found a couple of seats at the bar, luckily as someone just closed their check. Their cocktail menu looked amazing, although I stuck to their NA options. The music here is loud metal, at least at the bar it was so be prepared to speak up for people to hear you. I ordered the creeper breath pizza, which has sausage, garlic cloves, bell pepper, and onion, I think. I got the slice of pizza quick, in like 10 minutes or so. As I was eating it, I couldn't tell if it was the style of the pizza, but it felt like the center of the slice was not cooked all the way. The bartender Leah was super attentative and asked if the pizza was ok, to which I let her know my opinion of it being a little under done. She sent it back and asked for another one. The next slice didn't come out for another 50 minutes because the kitchen made the pizza, but a server mistakenly took it. It didn't bother me because I was having a good time with my friend. Leah kept me updated with what was going on and took the slice off my bill, which was really nice! I got the second slice, which was cooked better. It had a good cheese pull to it. Although the dough still didn't seem cooked to my liking but it tasted better this time. I started to think I was crazy. I finished the slice and noticed one of the art decor days "No bad yelp reviews, you snitch!" Or something like that. Which is pretty funny to me. Overall, my experience there was really good. Although I probably won't give the pizza another chance, I like my pizza not as soft and with a little less cheese as their's. I had a slice of the pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeño and a slice of the sausage and garlic. (You can get a whole pizza, but by the slice is the way to go.) The slices are huge, and the crust is fantastic. The cocktail menu is fun and packed full of flavor - I had the Queen Wasp, which is a fun play on a margarita. Yesterday we went back to The Headless Bat for pizza slices and wings, and it knocked our socks off! We had previously gotten takeout pizzas (Born of Fire and Thai Curry), and I think them being warm vs. hot by the time we ate made them a little less delicious. The Jalapeno Popper special slice was probably the best pizza I've had in years! Cream cheese and olive base with crunch bacon, fried onion, and japalenos. So darn good! We also got a slice of Creeping Breath, which was solid. The Buffalo wings were also very good. They were meaty and moist, the latter which I usually don't like. But the wings themselves were high quality and I'd rank them high among wings in STL. The Buffalo sauce definitely had some kick, so beware of this if you're sensitive to spice. The homemade ranch was also really good. Make sure you make a reservation if you have more than two people. Went here after attending a city soccer game. My brother and I were looking for a place to grab a bite and thought we would try something different. The heavy metal theme music was an interesting nod to help the food digest- LOL- but in all seriousness pizza was delicious. The order of wings we split were very tasty and the homemade ranch was as Guy Fieri likes to say "off the chain" Waitress was efficient and the bartender was amazing as she is the one that finished up our service for the night. Pizza, pizza, pizza! We're foodies and love many kinds of pizza! The pizza here ranks up with the best of them. The crust, both in the main part of the pizza and on the edge, is so good. Kind of like a combination of NY style pizza on the inside and Napolitanp crust on the outside in terms of texture. The toppings are fresh and tasty, the sausage is great and the sauce is very good and complimentary to the rest of the pizza. What a surprise! Ordered this to split with a friend (who was apprehensive) and we were both blown away. For myself this has to have been the best pie I have eaten in STL. The place is wicked cool inside as well. Probably not for everyone, but I thought the decor and theme was rock solid. The wings are good.
