Neighborhood joints are what makes America great. Who doesn't love them. We picked this one for dinner before a show because it was a neighborhood we lived in 40 years ago. So what was it like? The service is a mixed bag. You have to go to the service, it doesn't come to you. The menu is not too complicated. We came for pizza. And all the pizzas have an artist name. We had the Francis Bacon. It's a meat pizza that's pretty good on top but the crust was so burnt it killed the pizza joy. At $18.50 this pizza shouldn't be charcoal around the crust. On the other hand the salads were excellent. The small ranch salad was a delightful mix of romaine with bacon, heirloom tomatoes, Parmesan with some very thinly sliced onions and a delicious ranch dressing. This was the best $5.49 salad I've ever had and it was the redeeming dish for our meal. Overall the food was satisfactory in quantity but take ten points off for the burnt crust. We put in our order at the bar where we had to wait in line. Minus 10 points. The salad arrived quickly but the wait for the pizza was longer than expected. I guess they need extra time to burn the crust. Now as to ambiance. There isn't any. It's a neighborhood joint. The stools are too high and the benches outside are too hard. There are restaurants you remember because of the food, and there are places you remember because they simply feel good to be in. Gallery Pub definitely falls into the second category. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and feels like the kind of neighborhood place where friends gather after work or meet up on a weekend afternoon. It has personality, and I genuinely wanted to love it. The cocktails got us off to a great start. My gin and tonic was clean, crisp, and well balanced with quality tonic. Ordering is done at the counter, and while the bartender simply called out, "Here you go!" when our drinks were ready, that's clearly just how they keep things moving without running all over the restaurant. We ordered three calzones and a cup of roasted red pepper soup. The soup was tasty, and the calzone dough was excellent--hot, chewy, yeasty, and exactly what a pizza crust should be. Here's where I think they missed an opportunity. The standard calzone comes with three fillings. Looking over all the delicious options, we wanted to pay extra to add a fourth ingredient, but were told that wasn't possible because of the size. As someone who was literally trying to spend more money, that was confusing. The bigger issue was that the fillings themselves were pretty sparse. The flavors were there, but the quantity just wasn't. The bread ended up carrying the meal instead of the ingredients inside. A more generously filled calzone would have completely changed the experience. When we finished, we all had the same reaction: "That was good." Unfortunately, none of us said, "We have to come back." That's the disappointing part because Gallery Pub has everything else going for it. The atmosphere is one of its greatest strengths, and it's the kind of place you want to root for. I just wish the food had been as memorable as the space itself. I hope they reconsider being a little more generous with the fillings and embrace customers who want to customize their orders. Pizza Passport stop for our pizza group. We had 14 this time around. The weather could have been an issue, so we snagged tables inside. The outdoor seating is great with about 4 extra-large picnic tables, two of them covered by tents. Inside there are bar seats, window counter seats and about five tables with a bench side and two stools at each table. We took up three of the tables, there were a couple people outside and the bar was full. There are menus available and QR codes to scan on the tables. Signs on the wall indicate the Beers on tap and cocktails. The monthly specials are on a sign at the register; this is also where you place your order. We were one of the first there, so I ordered a Mezcal cocktail called The Wanderer, it was pretty good. I am on a Mezcal kick right now. I also ordered the Fried Artichokes with marinara. I also wanted lemon and that has to come from the bar. Others arrived and everyone got drinks, appetizers, and salads. The house salad looked so good I ordered one, too. It's a lively spot, all the art on the 'Gallery' wall is for sale. The pizza names are famous artists, we were all having fun. Everyone started ordering their pizza, I believe they can only do a few at a time but when you are hanging with your friends and eating good food, time goes by quick. We decided on the Lichtenstein aka pepperoni and the Frida Kahlo, Arrabbiata sauce, mozzarella, chicken, jalapeno, and bacon. Both were delicious! Staff is efficient, the waitress bringing out the pizza was friendly, she was here on our last visit. They were busy and the other staff were nice and focused on the job. We felt like these pizza choices were great, we really enjoyed them. read more

This is a great spot to enjoy live music and a drink. There was a lady playing the piano with a wonderful voice, and guests were also taking turns singing -- so much talent in one place. The bar is located in the beautiful historic Shaw neighborhood, which adds to the charm. I'm giving it less than 5 stars only because I didn't enjoy the pizza I ordered. It was a thin‑crust Margherita pizza, but the flavor was off -- it tasted like it had balsamic vinaigrette on it, which didn't work at all. I didn't try anything else on the menu, but I would personally stay away from the Margherita pizza. Other than that, I highly recommend this place if you want to listen to live music. We decided since we were over in the downtown town area we hit up Gallery Pub (Tower Grove/Shaw neighborhood) and used our Pizza Passport... This is a Cute little neighborhood Bar/Pub. Inside/Outside seating available (sat outside yesterday) Full Bar.. the menu consists of Pizza/Appetizers/Salads/ and desserts!!!! It also looked like Live Entertainment as well! We got the Francis Bacon Pizza! This pizza was very good!! pepperoni and Bacon. A few drinks to wash it down. Service was good.. you ordered at the bar! My family and I came over from tower Grove park With the intention of getting our daughter a scoop of ice cream while we waited for a Pizza. We placed our order at the bar and Let the woman know that we needed the ice cream first to keep our child occupied while we waited for the food. She wanted a credit card while we waited for our food, We did not order alcohol So there was no reason for a tab, And I've never had to put down a card to order food before. I told her I was paying with cash and then they wanted us to pay for our food before we ate. I could see prepaying if you were sitting outside but We were sitting at the table Inside directly across from the bar. After about 10 minutes my husband got up to check to see if they were going to bring out our daughter's ice creamAnd the bartender got snippy and said it was on its way. 10 more minutes passed and then the ice cream and pizza We're delivered to the table at the same time. The woman with a big smile on her face Asked if we were good, I said this kind of defeats the purpose of ordering the ice cream to come out before the pizza now my kids not going to eat. And then she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off. We finished our meal and at no point did anyone stop by to see if we needed anything, To see if the food tasted alright or to see if we wanted to order anything else.... Never felt more unwelcome in a neighborhood bar, Especially at one we've dined at Before. Firstly, we are not from here... If the food was the only thing I was critiquing, I would have voted 5 stars. Everything was delicious! The service was... interesting. First, we walked inside because we expected to be created by a hostess. Nothing. We approached the bar and the bartender looked at us confused. Then we noticed a card outside on the tables so we figured that must have been the menu. It was actually just the beer menu. No food menus. We sat outside and after 10 minutes one of my group members walked back inside and approached the bar again, flagging down the bartender and asked for a menu. We ended up with 2 paper menus and brought them back to our table. Another 10 minutes, a very sweet waitress took our food order and shortly after that, the drinks arrived and we were able to place food orders. After the initial salad drop, we were left without and silverware and again, waited a while to flag someone down so we could stop eating with our hands. Again, the food was amazing! The (I'm assuming) head chef, came out and thanked us for dining. The pizza came out hot and fresh and cheesy. Yum! At this point we've been out of water for a while and were never asked if we needed anything. Then (who looked to be) the boss of the restaurant walks up to the restaurant. He was super friendly. Said hello to some people and starts cleaning up a table. Again, we were never acknowledged. Never asked if we need anything. We end up going inside the bar to pay our tab. Never saw the waitress who took our order again. Maybe it's just how things how there... but it was odd for someone not from the area. The staff I spoke to and/or observed all seemed very nice. I would come back again for that pizza and chicken salad boat... but probably not for the overall experience. read more

Our family of four sat at the bar. We were staying in Shaw district so it was an easy walk. Great vibe with cool paintings on the wall. We shared two pizzas- the Kruger and the banksy. I live in the neighborhood and have been going here for many years, even back before it was Gallery Pub and it was just called Thurman's. Great atmosphere and it's outdoor patio is it's best feature, with its laid back vibes and extra large picnic tables. A true Shaw neighborhood staple. But I wanted to post my thoughts specifically about the food. As a pizza maker myself that offers craft sourdough Neapolitan and Detroit styles, I've been wanting to try their pizzas for quite sometime. I frequent this spot more to have drinks, so I've seen the pizzas often and they looked great, but just didn't have a chance to try it yet until tonight. I was expecting a crispy crust, but instead it was a bit floppy. The biggest disappointment with it was the vast amount of over cheesing on it. There was so much cheese you couldn't taste the other ingredients at all - it overpowered the crust, the sauce, and the toppings. It was just cheese for days. I'm not sure where the myth came from that a good pizza needs to have a large amount of cheese to be satisfying... it's quite the opposite actually because you want the flavors from all the other ingredients to cut through as well. Balance is key. We ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza and a traditional pepperoni, mushroom, olive pizza - and both were overpowered by way too much cheese, and I'm sure that also contributed to the floppy crust. The good news is this is an easy fix if they can get their pizza maker to make the adjustments for a more balanced pizza. I'll keep coming back because I love the ambiance of this place as a neighborhood bar, but not sure if I'll order their pizza again. VIBES = 5 PIZZA = 3 OVERALL = 4 read more

We come here every Tuesday for trivia night with Andi and have a blast! This is my second review for this place because they started selling pizza since my last review. We got the Monet's La Pie, but with red sauce. Their pizza is okay. It hits the spot, but it's not the best thing in the world. Their garlic knots on the other hand are incredible. I'm so excited! The best pizza I've had in St Louis - don't IMO me. From Chicago - grew up in a family owned pizzaria- so I'm picky. Their cheese and pepperoni are top quality - no grease pooling on top. Crust and sauce are also good - price is spot on. Atmosphere is casual and friendly with a neighborhood vibe.
