Delicious and cozy brunch place! The Hazel Room is a popular place with great food. We were able to walk were we are staying in Portland. We walked in on Sunday around 11am and quickly got a table. We ordered the Cardamom French Toast and the Poutine topped with Egg and Bacon. Both were really good. The Poutine was fabulous. There was an option to do mushroom gravy. Would order again. Instead of fries, it was roasted potatoes which was perfect for brunch. For drinks, we got the Hot Nurse and a french 75. They were both very good. Overall, the Hazel Room is a solid brunch place!
This place was cool with vintage themed decor! The Hazel Room offers all the necessities: coffee, cocktails and food! Everyone working was very friendly, and when we arrived on Friday around noon, our group of 5 was seated immediately. I believe they are first come first serve on weekends, and reservations the other days for parties of 6 or more. Since we'd just had breakfast, we decided to skip the food and just get drinks. A few people ordered the Espresso Martini which was my favorite that I tried. I ordered the Hot Nurse which was warm and cozy! The Corpse Reviver was also really good! I would definitely come back here for brunch!
Great neighborhood brunch spot! The restaurant is in an old house, super cute and very well-decorated. Great ambiance, split into two rooms and it doesn't get too loud. There were a lot of 2-top tables. We arrived a couple minutes after 9 so we were able to be seated right away. Starting around 9:30, there was a wait to be seated. They have coffee on the covered deck. We came for Mother's Day, and brought our toddler. There were actually quite a few toddlers that brunched at the same time! We were able to get a high chair as well. I had the french toast platter. The cardamon french toast was quite tasty. The eggs and bacon were fine. The food wasn't piping hot, so subtracting one star there. I also had a latte which was served in a big mug and well appointed with latte art. I ended up not finishing it and they had a to-go cup for me. Overall, lovely experience and I would definitely return!
Mall quality "Build a Breakfast " . How did staff know that I am a handyman ??? My Bloody Mary was like.........some assembly required . Fortunately , I have had some IKEA craftmanship to realize that others had all the parts , but mine was a little different . What next , bring my own skillet ?? The food is overpriced , overspiced , and some not nice . Wallet took a hit .

No apology okay fine it's busy and things happen than I'm half way through my food and have a hair in my avocado immediately lost my appetite . No manager came over too apologize We eat out often and have never experienced this . Their nonchalant response I think it may be normal they get complaints of hair in food . Maybe hair nets should be required

Don't get comfy. 20 minute wait outdoors, cold, rainy, blah blah blah, and within 1 hour of being seated we were asked to surrender the table for others. We were seated, we ordered, we ate, we ordered additional drinks, the tabs were brought immediately and we were asked to go within minutes. I spoke with the floor manager directly as we were leaving and they apologized for "offending us ". We were not offended. This is a nice place to pop in, get the Hawthorne vibe in your veins, but not a place to spend time catching up with loved ones. Eat and go. Food details. I had the Mexican mocha, the design on top was cute, there was no mocha to be found anywhere in the drink, and the spice level was intense. I then ordered a latte and it was mostly foam. I ordered the chive biscuits with the red eye gravy on the side since I've never had that, two eggs over hard and the chicken sausage. The chicken sausage was cooked well and had nice flavor. The eggs were cooked well the red eye gravy, unfortunately did come smothered all over the biscuit, so it was extremely hard to discern which flavor was what. The red eye gravy was a shock to my taste buds but once I adjusted to it, it was not bad at all. I definitely didn't get any coffee flavor in the redeye and it did overpower and a biscuit flavor, but I would get the red eye gravy again. The chive biscuits were nice and fluffy, but I couldn't get any flavor from them with the gravy on top.
I have been wanting to come here for a while! The restaurant looks like a house, with a prominent sign up front. I tried to put myself on the waitlist online but I was not able to for some reason. We got there at 12pm. Street parking is available. My family and I went inside and we placed ourselves on the waitlist with the hostess. It would be a 35 minute wait. It was packed and busy. I got the text that they were ready for us at 1. We got there and the hostess let us know they were clearing the table. The restaurant has a warm, cozy, and home feel to it. It had a rustic feel to it, and different types of dining tables/chairs. Menus and water were on the table, ready for us. Our waitress let us know that they had run out of potatoes and any dish that had potatoes would include a substitute (veggies or fruit). I thought that was strange, as most of their dishes had potatoes. I had really wanted to get the southwest scramble and hash but I didn't because of that problem. It turned me off and I had a hard time deciding what to get. I ended up getting the bee gee breakfast red eye gravy and my choice of protein like sausage. They have GF options, including the bread. I chose GF bread. For my drink, I got an orange mimosa. It wasn't as strong as I expected but the French 75 was. 25 minutes later, our food was served. I took a bite and realized the gravy they put on the biscuits was lukewarm. The sausage was hard to cut through and was rubbery. They had a great selection when it came to the berries. We also ordered the French connection, southwest, and a pancake. The service was nice, our server was sweet but she didn't check in on us enough. It was decent meal.
Visited here when visiting family - so glad to have found it! I let the staff know that I have celiac and they were very helpful about what was safe - and gluten free is noted on the menu (thank you!!). The breakfast was fantastic - I had the poutine with bacon and egg with the GF country gravy. The restaurant is really fun in a great old house. I can't wait to return!
Forget the 1hr+ wait at Jam on Hawthorn ( I mean been there done that) Hazel Room had no wait for us. Got lucky on parking first side street Coconut cardamom French toast hell yah!!! Grapefruit mimosas yes please. The Bloody Mary was stacked with veggies. Man I'll come back here 3 times before that nasty line at Jam down the street. Hahah
To be honest this was the best breakfast we have had in Portland. We got the pancakes and French toasts. Everything came out perfect! The server was so kind and inviting. Just a great experience! My daughter name is Hazel so she was so excited to come here! We will be coming back for suer!
Its been a long time coming but finally, one weekend I actually made it to the Hazel Room . The vibe is cute and cozy and felt it had a very inviting feel to it . I was not a fan of the seats they put us in despite half the restaurant being empty. We started with a nice tall cup of cappuccino and a cardamom bun. The bun was doughy and not cooked and when I let the staff know about it they said that it comes that way !!! Sorry but no , I know what a cardamom bun tastes like and it certainly isn't the taste of raw flour. I decided to just not eat it and make myself sick . The Big Gee breakfast was scrumptious and very filling , I loved my coffee and the vibe of this place and that`s something that will bring me back here again . The staff can do better at customer service though .

I was surprised to find a brunch spot I'd never heard of! My husband and I went on a Friday and it was pretty busy. It took a while to get our coffee and they sent me bacon when I asked for sausage, but otherwise service was pretty good. The food was good but I wouldn't go back for it. I didn't love the brown gravy for a breakfast dish, it was more Cajun. My husband's eggs in the shakshkuka were also way over cooked. It was pretty loud in the restaurant, probably just because it's small. read more
We had just landed in Portland and after meeting up with my mom, sister and her fiancé, we all decided it was definitely time to eat. We were actually staying in Salem, but our check in was so much later in the day we decided to check out a little bit of Portland. My sister is gluten free and used an app to show her what choices she had in the area. We all agreed the Hazel Room looked the best. The menu had a lot of good options and I settled on the bee gee breakfast with over easy eggs, mushroom gravy and chicken apple sausage. I've been on the hunt for the BEST biscuits and gravy. Sadly this didn't gain the title as the BEST but it was pretty amazing. The potatoes had a really yummy seasoning. The biscuits with cheddar and scallion were definitely an interesting change but really good! The mushroom gravy was absolutely the star of the show! I could have drank that. We were sat soon and orders / food were taken and brought out quickly. The building itself looks huge on the outside but there's fairly low seating on the inside. But the decor is very cute. We paid cash and needed change but for some reason the waitress just put the remaining cash in the tip jar without bringing us change or asking, which we thought was really strange so maybe something to watch for if paying with cash. Things to note: No private parking lot, plenty of street parking. One bathroom that appears to be used by both employees and customers. read more

Had the Square Meal with the roasted veggies option and it was scrumptious! The veggies had a subtle Asian flair to them which was a delightful and tasty surprise. Gluten Free toast was nice and chewy and the jam was terrific. They have a very cozy space that is now twice the size of what it was when I was last here several years ago. Theres also a few tables on the porch outside. Service was very nice. This is definitely one of my top spots for breakfast in PDX! read more

I walked by this cozy, charming spot looking for a brunch with 3 others on a Satuday morning. Luckily, we got seating swiftly with a funny, bubbly waiter. The food was delicious! It is what I would consider brunch comfort food. I got a bacon, egg, cheese biscuit. My friends and I couldn't stop talking about how good the biscuit was all weekend! Came here for brunch and we were so happy with our choice! I really liked the choice of juice for the mimosas, and they were so cute!! Also, all of our dishes were to die for. They were so filling and delicious. The service was great, even on a busy Saturday we were seated immediately. The restaurant itself can feel a bit cramped so we sat outside which was great. Such a cute vibe! I'm from California and this place reminded me of a fave brunch spot in my college town that sadly no longer exists. My friend and I stumbled upon this place and quickly said yes to trying it because there were mimosas, sadly not bottomless fyi. We both immediately said it reminded us of the other spot from college. Anyways, our server was very nice and efficient, seeing as they were kinda busy on a Friday morning. I came on a Sunday for brunch to meet up with a friend. I did not prepare to wait since this place gets busy. We waited almost 50 minutes for a table for the both of us. Granted the place is quite small. The atmosphere is so cute though. It reminds you of a quiet and hidden speak easy bar that will take you back in time. The reason I gave it a 4 and not a five is because of the wait that it took to get a table for two and the amount it took to get our food which was about 35 mins. Also I have to admit, I might have been super impatient because I was just super hungry. Lol. You know? After a long wait to get in and then a long wait to get the food. I was hangry. But the food was so delicious! The French toast tasted like a cross between bread pudding and French toast. And the orange juice so yummy and freshly squeezed. I definitely will come back. **vegetarian review ** I called ahead to be put on the waitlist and it was about an hour long wait. But so worth it!! I ordered bee gee breakfast with country gravy and biscuit Benedict with tomato! And mocha. The mocha was perfection!!! The biscuits in both the dishes were really nice. I preferred the biscuit Benedict over the mushroom gravy of bee gee breakfast but that's definitely personal preference and by no means was the mushroom gravy bad. Both the sides came with a side of the most delicious potatoes. I loved every bites And will definitely come back for more!!! read more

How did we not know about or find this lovely eatery on Hawthorne until now? My daughter and I came for breakfast and grabbed a spot on their patio on a beautiful spring day! The server was fast, bubbly, and most especially dog friendly! The food was outstanding. We shared the Prociutto Benedict and Breakfast Poutine. One was more delicious than the other. The curds were perfectly chewy and pully and the red eye gravy topping it was wonderfully savory. The poached eggs on the Benedict were perfect and oozed into the cheddar chive biscuit underneath. Amazing! So many more interesting items to try on the menu that we can't wait to return! read more

We were greeted with a very warm welcome and an open door. The staff were very helpful and extremely welcoming. This place has many popular picks. I went with the Bee Gee Breakfast plate and my wife selected the Bacon Benedict plate. I had a orange juice and my wife braved the flavors of the grapefruit juice. read more

Super cute place! Food was delicious. I had a fruit compote mimosa which was lovely and the breakfast sandwich. Our server was attentive and friendly. We did not see Tom the ghost though, as the sign welcoming you in, said that he lived there. read more
With our first choice for brunch offering only pick-up or delivery, and ourselves wanting to get out of the house, we wandered over to Hawthorne and stumbled onto this little gem! Tucked away inside, and sharing the space with, a vintage house alongside a women's clothing store, the handful of tables were spaced appropriately for the Covid-19 age. The host was cheerful and inviting, seating us immediately at a table nestled between two gorgeous painted windows. I ordered the Prosciutto and Pesto biscuit and a couple Bloody Mary's with whiskey instead of vodka (my choice; they also offered tequila as a base), while my wife had the "Bacon is my Jam!", alongside a grapefruit mimosa. Service oscillated between fantastic and lackluster. The aforementioned host (a young gentleman) was fantastic, whereas our waitress was rather aloof and inattentive; rarely did we see her other than our initial order and the delivery of our orders. A side order of bacon was missed entirely. These oversights were made up for by (the woman whom I assume was) the manager, who picked up the slack with grace and poise, and seemed to be working her ass off at the bar, as well as the general management of the restaurant. For those so included, there is a plentiful variety of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu; the vegan burrito only just barely missed making it to my plate, but I do not regret my order one bit! Both of our sandwiches were phenomenal, with the biscuits themselves being among the best we've ever had: thick and moist, and didn't crumble and fall apart like most biscuits do. These ones held together like champs! And that bacon with jam is a beautiful contradiction of flavors: the bacon is the element that fuses all of the constituent elements together for one sensational, savory sandwich! I was a little jealous, and my sandwich was no slouch: pesto and prosciutto with pickled onions is a divine combo! read more
My girlfriend and I checked out the The Hazel Room the other day because of their vegan friendly breakfast options. Upon being sat and looking over the menu, it was quickly evident that the meal options looked delicious! As our server greeted us and took drink orders- we told him we would need some time to decide on food as we were simply enjoying each others company. This is where everything went downhill. He evidently did not appreciate us taking our time to spend them together because his attitude quickly changed within just a few short minutes. It seemed as though we were an inconvenience to him and we bothered him. My girlfriends drink came out wrong, on two separate occasions even while he clarified to confirm the drink each time. At one point our original server actually switched with another man working- and the new one was unpleasant as well. Several items we had asked for got completely forgotten and when we asked for them, the server was once again snide and unapologetic. The food was simply amazing- the flavors and quality were so tasty! We truly loved both of our meals. I had prosciutto biscuit Benedict and she had French toast with potatoes. The demeanor of both servers that morning put a really nasty taste in our mouth because we did nothing but come in and try to enjoy a nice breakfast together. I live in Chicago and only come to town once in awhile. I know neither of us have a desire to ever come back again to be treated so poorly. read more
