A PDX SE fan favorite. Delicious coffee, friendly staff. Very cool layout. Colorful. Some indoor, mostly outdoor seating. Street parking. Enjoy!

Visited Portland for the holiday and Never was close to my stay. Also in such a cute area with food trucks and Tabor Bread nearby! But back to Never - They have tons of signature lattes and seasonal drinks. During my trip I had the Oregon (iced and hot even though it was in the 90s) and Rich Kid iced. Both were delicious. I think the hot Oregon was my fave so it was rough having the weather not line up w a cozy latte... I've seen mixed reviews on this but I had a good experience with staff - they gave me a discount on my sweater purchase when they noticed it had coffee stains on it. Also they didn't judge me when I bought two coffees for myself lol. Speaking of merch, they have such cute marketing! Definitely coming back next time I'm in Portland!

I went here with my family who was visiting from out of town, great tasting coffee Very nice to have the tables outside to sit. I took my baby on a walk in her stroller . Would definitely be back. Purchased a rad key chain for 5$.

Never is such a fun coffee spot for some very creative lattes! I love getting the rich kid which I believe is a cardamom rose water saffron latte. A 12oz is $7 which is a lot but it's very good. I also purchased a bag of beans to try as well. The space is small but mighty. Good amounts of seating inside and outside. Parking is free and plentiful. The staff is friendly and very fast. I've been here a handful of times and I usually come when I want to get out on a morning to get a coffee somewhere special by myself.

overall: 4/5 drink: 4/5 service: 4/5 ambiance: 5/5 i came in the summer of the last year, and the vibes were great! the baristas were super kind and charismatic, which made our experience all the better. i love the interior- all the colors with the greens and cool tones are beautiful, but there is no seating inside the cafe, so it seems more of a grab and go situation, or grab and go sit outside in the summer situation. my friend and i ordered the Oregon and the Rich Kid! i forget which one i got, but i tried both and remembered liking the Rich Kid more, as the coffee flavor was strong and there seemed to be a lot of ingredient thrown in to the drink that makes this cafe unique and the drink yummy! coffee flavor wise, it's not too strong, but i could taste hints of the roast along the other flavors used within the drink. i think it's all personal preference as to whether or not you like the drink, as my friend did not think there was enough coffee taste and thought the drinks were too light. however, i do recommend checking out this place in the summer! good vibes, good people, and yummy drinks.

Great coffee shop with an awesome aesthetic. It's a pretty small shop, with two baristas working behind the counter. The shop is filled with lush green plants, original art, and merch. I ordered a dirty chai latte with almond milk. It had the perfect amount of spice I would expect from a chai latte, and the espresso was STRONG! Usually when I order a dirty chai I expect it to taste more like a regular latte with a hint of chai flavor. But this was the perfect marriage of chai tea and espresso, both flavors were bold yet perfectly balanced. I gave Never Coffee four stars because the customer service wasn't there for me. I walked in and said hello before either barista acknowledged me. It wasn't a very warm and welcoming vibe in there, but more of like get in and get out. They do have picnic tables on the sidewalk for outside seating if you wanted a place to sit and sip.

What a fun cafe to explore coffee. A choice of 6 different blends. Medium roast across the board. One decaf. Inside is clean and polished. Samples of coffee lay in a basket. Syrups to mix with your coffee. Cups to hold your brew. Much to take in , so I ordered a house with cream . Didn't ask which blend I got, but it tasted good. Purchase the "OH" blend of coffee. 12 ounces for a twenty. I did not watch how they brewed my coffee. Could be pour over. So my task was to take home whole bean coffee , brew in my auto drip, and enjoy. So far, I'm happy with the coffee I chose.

Their coffee was super velvety and they were busy but attentive. I would go back but my friend found their coffee to be average. I thought otherwise. The guy at the register was super friendly and genuine. Great service.

What a cozy space. Very hipster with simple decor. Delicious coffee & ice chai (not sweet). The art around the space was interesting & fun. Great barista service (not so much on cell-service since it on a basement "underground feel" brick building)

Wonderful coffee shop. Everyone is so friendly & the coffee is fine af. I haven't had their regular lattes but their specialty ones are truly special. My favorites are the Oregon, holy grail, and rich kid (in that order). $8 IS expensive for coffee but if you're going to treat yourself once in a while this is 100% worth it.

Great coffee shop. The barista went above and beyond trying to find me ingredients for something they serve only in DT location (I didn't know). He couldn't find one syrup so I got "Oregon" latte instead. It has hops, dulce de leche and sea salt. It was a very unique-tasting beverage.

His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.

I got the seasonal peppermint mocha drink- all the flavors were very light and not too sweet which I appreciated. I only wished that there was stronger coffee taste (my preference), as it tasted like a warm milk drink with a hint of peppermint and dash of bitterness from the coffee. I do wonder how their drinks will taste iced so I do plan on coming back! I arrived with my party of 2 just before a small line formed, and ordered my seasonal drink and a drip coffee. there were 2 baristas at the time, but after we ordered one of them left(?) and only one barista remained to take orders and make drinks. it was busy and as a barista myself I understand so I didn't mind the longer wait and understood that they forgot the drip coffee we ordered due to the small rush. Upon reminding them after the customers behind us were served, the barista was super apologetic and made the drip coffee immediately. However, the coffee was lukewarm and didn't have a strong coffee taste either (according to my friend). Overall a cute little cafe on Hawthorne, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for their coffee. I would be willing to give this place another shot if I was in the area, as their other seasonal drinks look yummy!

The two-tops are fairly snug together so it can feel like you're eavesdropping or being listened to. There's counter seating along one side which had some refreshing morning sun- when a couple seats opened up there, we moved and were very comfy. There are a couple of cozy chairs in the front window and some additional counter and lounge seating in an adjoining room. The drink quality and presentation were high quality and delicious. The cost of a 12oz latte ($7) with no special milk was higher than other cafes I've been to recently around Portland including places that create their own syrups for specialty drinks of the month. That said, I don't begrudge the cost of a masterfully hand-crafted, drinkable cup of art and that is exactly what I received. I think the cost stuck in my head because the welcome did not feel particularly warm at the register. They were having an animated conversation with the barista and I couldn't help but feel like we were inconveniencing them by saying good morning and trying to order. When we picked up our orders, the barista was warm and friendly. Overall, it's a delightful spot in an equally lovely neighborhood.
