Iced Americano
Nathan B.

Stop #7 - On "The One Day Portland Adventure" TLDR - This coffee shop is high quality, with minimal seating. I needed this stop. Not only was the coffee super tasty, but the day of adventure was becoming a little abstract. But what stop was this? Did it count as a separate stop since it was technically inside Powell's? Either way, it was a welcome interlude after the first 6 stops of the day. - - - - I had to put on my earphones to avoid the break up conversation happening next to me. (I am totally not kidding). The decaf iced americano was delicious. Vibrant. Nutty. Great water to espresso ratio. Furthermore, this was a perfect place to sit and plan my next adventure place. I noticed that there was a theater across the street that was showing movies, but I worried that if I didn't keep moving, I might get sleepy. The lady at a previous business had recommended I check out Mount Tabor. So armed with Yelp and Google maps I decided to check out how far away it was. Since there was a plethora of lime, scooters and lots of neighborhoods between the coffee shop and the park, I decided that it would be my next stop. But not before spending a good 30 minutes reading a book and enjoying the delicious iced Americano.

Cute spot inside Powells books. Several tables and open late. Great coffee, some food options.

Oat milk latte

This coffee shop it right inside Powell's and it's a great place to stop for a hot beverage before or after shopping around. I came here to study and enjoyed an oat milk latte while I worked. This coffee shop is a great place to work and the coffee was delicious! I loved the coffee art.

Marionberry pop tart is amazing!!!

The coffee is amazing. Had my first pumpkin latte of the season and it was perfection! Not to sweet.... Just perfect! But let's talk about that Marionberry pop tart! It's killer good! You need to try it! Best little hidden treasure!

Amazing! AMAZING!!! Coffee and pastries wow!! I am a coffee connoisseur! This has been one of my favorite coffee shops I've ever tried in my life. I stayed in Portland for a few days with my boyfriend and was very determined to find a great shop and that I did! The lattes were so smooth and well balanced with no bitter aftertaste! Perfect sweetness and very bold! I also ordered a bag of their house coffee beans and boy was that a great idea! It pulled almost the exact same beautiful shots out of my Breville Espresso machine and tasted just like the cafe's latte. Also ordered a jalepeno and cheddar scone with the Marionberry pop tart (10/10)! The pop tart melted in your mouth. Please give this cafe a try if you are in town. :)

Street sign.

Location: I will not give advice on the location because I am visiting Portland. But I will give my observations: It looks like a safe area, and parking seems moderately easy to find. The People: Friendly barista. The Drinks: - Cold brew: Good! Work/Study: Amazing study spot. I got solid work done. I got my electronics charged. The Venue: Nice venue. Has plenty of indoor seating. Upshot: A solid spot to get some work done in Hawthorne Blvd.!

Good coffee / crappy snooty service - they deleted my previous comment, which really just validates the quality of people running it

On this particular day, the rain was relentless. Heavier than usual. I popped into The Fresh Pot for a hot beverage to warm me up.

I got a honey lavender latte, hemp milk, with a CBD shot. Legitimately the best latte I think I've ever had and I was a barista for years.

An underrated cup of coffee. I'd come back again. Covid precautions were taken seriously, all of the indoor seating was removed.

I'm stupid and made a huge mistake. They, on the other hand, are so nice, kind, wonderful... All I…read morecan say now is... customer for life. I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! So, I brought my drink up fully prepared to pay for another and everyone there, EVERYONE, in almost unison, refused to take my payment. They kindly and quickly made another and... oh... spicy indeed, but chocolatey and balanced! One of the best spicy mochas I've had anywhere ... and I am an absolute Spella snob and proud of it! Inside secret: Don't miss out on the great selection of truly authentic Egyptian foods and pastries, as well as some really nice necklaces and earrings. If you need that piece to pull your whole Nefertiti look together before going out for a Saturday of dancing and fun... this is your hidden gem!

His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.

overall: 3.5/5 drink: 3/5…read moreservice 4/5 ambiance: 4/5 it's been a few months since I first tried Golden Hour Coffee, and I am thinking about going back to try other drinks. I got the seasonal peppermint mocha drink- all the flavors were very light and not too sweet which I appreciated. I only wished that there was stronger coffee taste (my preference), as it tasted like a warm milk drink with a hint of peppermint and dash of bitterness from the coffee. I do wonder how their drinks will taste iced so I do plan on coming back! I arrived with my party of 2 just before a small line formed, and ordered my seasonal drink and a drip coffee. there were 2 baristas at the time, but after we ordered one of them left(?) and only one barista remained to take orders and make drinks. it was busy and as a barista myself I understand so I didn't mind the longer wait and understood that they forgot the drip coffee we ordered due to the small rush. Upon reminding them after the customers behind us were served, the barista was super apologetic and made the drip coffee immediately. However, the coffee was lukewarm and didn't have a strong coffee taste either (according to my friend). Overall a cute little cafe on Hawthorne, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for their coffee. I would be willing to give this place another shot if I was in the area, as their other seasonal drinks look yummy!

The two-tops are fairly snug together so it can feel like you're eavesdropping or being listened to. There's counter seating along one side which had some refreshing morning sun- when a couple seats opened up there, we moved and were very comfy. There are a couple of cozy chairs in the front window and some additional counter and lounge seating in an adjoining room. The drink quality and presentation were high quality and delicious. The cost of a 12oz latte ($7) with no special milk was higher than other cafes I've been to recently around Portland including places that create their own syrups for specialty drinks of the month. That said, I don't begrudge the cost of a masterfully hand-crafted, drinkable cup of art and that is exactly what I received. I think the cost stuck in my head because the welcome did not feel particularly warm at the register. They were having an animated conversation with the barista and I couldn't help but feel like we were inconveniencing them by saying good morning and trying to order. When we picked up our orders, the barista was warm and friendly. Overall, it's a delightful spot in an equally lovely neighborhood.
