A part of the third wave coffee movement (#1), this second location of Albina Press made big headlines back in the day for being the next step in coffee pioneer Kevin Fuller's (#2) vision for making coffee more than just a drink. The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Maximize the time by starting early and be aware that street parking is the only way. __________ (#1) If you understand this, then you're either a serious coffee enthusiast or a massive food nerd. Ironically, I'm neither. (#2) R.I.P. (#3) https://www.yelp.com/biz/albina-press-portland (#4) They close at 6pm daily.

Good natural lighting, very productive atmosphere, not overly loud. The service was very quick, I got my cafe au lait in probably 30 seconds flat. The outdoor seating would be super nice on a sunny day. I also ordered a Marionberry scone, which didn't have as much actual fruit as I would've liked. There was a little clump of berries on one side, but the rest was rather plain. My only real negative was that the bathroom was a little gross and there was quite a bit of profane graffiti everywhere.

I'd once been driving from Tacoma to Astoria and somewhere along Portland felt the need for an espresso. So I got off I5 and ended up at Albina Press. I had only a dim recollection all these years and finally had the chance to return on a recent trip to Portland. It's still the sweet down to earth neighborhood spot with excellent coffee and friendly service. But what I did not expect was one of the best iced lattes I've ever had -- which I actually ordered for my boyfriend. Pistachio Lemon sounded weird to me but was nutty, mellow, and refreshing. Wow so good. Also, there are picnic tables in the backyard which is a perfect spot to sit in the shade and enjoy your drinks on a summer day.

BEASTED! I am on the hunt for the perfect Portland coffee shop and have yet to find it, however albina was pretty good! My go to drink recently has been a london fog and I was very pleased with my order today. The oat milk was steamed well and the tea was loose leaf which is always my preferred way. There was plenty of seating indoors and out and a complimentary water station as well. No extra charge for alternative milk too! Everything was good, just missing that wow factor for me I guess.

Albina press has a good vibe to it, with outdoor seating and indoor seating with comfy sofas to sip your coffee or tea on and outings with your friends. I got the honey latte and they served it quick and fast, as well as hot and beautiful with some signature latte art. The price for the coffee is standard and their syrups are seasonal. Receiving my coffee, it was the perfect sweetness! However, I wouldn't say the same for the chai latte my friend got. Besides the coffee, the service was good and the atmosphere was vibrant on a nice and sunny day. I would recommend this cafe if you are in the area if the others do not work out. :)

Great little hidden coffee spot! It is hard to spot when driving by, and a lot bigger inside that I expected. There are plenty of tables in the back for those that need a good place to study. The baristas are friendly. And the drinks are delicious!

Yummy treats, the teas are magnificent and aromatic. I forget which tea late I got both tried all pastries and teas at out table. Sweetest service with stellar recommendations. And cozy ambiance. I love the couches. Great place to chill and have a quiet private talk or to study.

I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! So, I brought my drink up fully prepared to pay for another and everyone there, EVERYONE, in almost unison, refused to take my payment. They kindly and quickly made another and... oh... spicy indeed, but chocolatey and balanced! One of the best spicy mochas I've had anywhere ... and I am an absolute Spella snob and proud of it! Inside secret: Don't miss out on the great selection of truly authentic Egyptian foods and pastries, as well as some really nice necklaces and earrings. If you need that piece to pull your whole Nefertiti look together before going out for a Saturday of dancing and fun... this is your hidden gem!

His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.

overall: 3.5/5 drink: 3/5…read moreservice 4/5 ambiance: 4/5 it's been a few months since I first tried Golden Hour Coffee, and I am thinking about going back to try other drinks. I got the seasonal peppermint mocha drink- all the flavors were very light and not too sweet which I appreciated. I only wished that there was stronger coffee taste (my preference), as it tasted like a warm milk drink with a hint of peppermint and dash of bitterness from the coffee. I do wonder how their drinks will taste iced so I do plan on coming back! I arrived with my party of 2 just before a small line formed, and ordered my seasonal drink and a drip coffee. there were 2 baristas at the time, but after we ordered one of them left(?) and only one barista remained to take orders and make drinks. it was busy and as a barista myself I understand so I didn't mind the longer wait and understood that they forgot the drip coffee we ordered due to the small rush. Upon reminding them after the customers behind us were served, the barista was super apologetic and made the drip coffee immediately. However, the coffee was lukewarm and didn't have a strong coffee taste either (according to my friend). Overall a cute little cafe on Hawthorne, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for their coffee. I would be willing to give this place another shot if I was in the area, as their other seasonal drinks look yummy!

The two-tops are fairly snug together so it can feel like you're eavesdropping or being listened to. There's counter seating along one side which had some refreshing morning sun- when a couple seats opened up there, we moved and were very comfy. There are a couple of cozy chairs in the front window and some additional counter and lounge seating in an adjoining room. The drink quality and presentation were high quality and delicious. The cost of a 12oz latte ($7) with no special milk was higher than other cafes I've been to recently around Portland including places that create their own syrups for specialty drinks of the month. That said, I don't begrudge the cost of a masterfully hand-crafted, drinkable cup of art and that is exactly what I received. I think the cost stuck in my head because the welcome did not feel particularly warm at the register. They were having an animated conversation with the barista and I couldn't help but feel like we were inconveniencing them by saying good morning and trying to order. When we picked up our orders, the barista was warm and friendly. Overall, it's a delightful spot in an equally lovely neighborhood.

Unlike LA, they appeared genuinely interested and ready for longer conversation if given the opportunity. Excellent spread of pastries and a ton of seasonal drinks. Easily 3x cookies in one which is great if you've got a sweet tooth while also ballin' on a budget. The cafe game in Portland is thoroughly saturated w/ indie entrepreneurs and it's got to be a challenge to stand out from the crowd. I applaud Crema Cafe for not trying to differentiate themselves with a gimmick. They are memorable in my book for their unique depth of atmosphere and a palpable sense of serenity.
