This used to be one of my favorite coffee shops. The lattes are decent, and they have a good selection of vegan and non vegan deserts. In addition their hazelnut flavoring is so good, it's like eating hazelnuts. There's also plenty of street parking. However, the music was so loud, that I wore earplugs, but that did not help a lot. People could not carry a conversation without yelling. When I finally could not concentrate on my school work, and asked the barista to turn it down, he refused. He said that he is closing and it gives him closing vibes... Huh! Isn't a business there to make money for the owners and not to entertain the Barista... I was going to call and talk to the manager, but I decided to stop going there. When I come here I usually get a latte and they are always delicious. Service is friendly. Place is clean. The vibe is rustic meets industrial with long wooden tables and metal chairs. It's light and bright inside. The place is always bustling with Lots of customers - friends meeting for coffee, people working, reading, hanging out while enjoying their beverage. This stretch of NE Sandy has other shops of interest. Bakeshop next door, the Bike Shop on the other side and Rose City Food Truck Park right there as well. read more

So is this a coffee shop, or an indoor dog park? We dropped in for coffee and scone a couple weeks ago and were enjoying quiet conversation, when a young couple came in after us, with their dog on a leash. They grabbed a table near the barista and sat down with their dog under the table. Two minutes later, another person who respects neither other people, or food service law, walks in with another dog, and starts to order. Well obviously, the two dogs start barking at each other and trying to lunge at each other, scattering chairs, and creating a less than pleasant morning for everyone else. So what does the counter guy do? Oh naturally, he leaves his post, and brings out dog biscuits. What the hell? This is illegal. You can lose your business license. Fast forward a couple weeks and we decide to try again. Walking in the door we notice two dogs already in the store. No thanks! Turned around and went to Fleur de Lis a few blocks away and had a better breakfast surrounded by people and no dogs. Leave them at home, Take them to the park. A really nice place to get some baked goodies and a coffee. We were in Portland back in 2018 and had our flight back in a couple of hours so we decided to stop here and get our caffeine fix so we can easily sail through the rest of the day. Easily got parking near an outside street. The server was really friendly. We ordered a cappuccino and a coffee walnut cake. Both were simply delicious. The ambience was really nice. There were quite a few people sitting and working on their art projects or on their laptops. Bathroom was really clean too. Overall a great spot to get your caffeine fix. Strolling down the street and stumbled upon this place. Walked in and immediately fell in love with case study coffee. Not too big of a coffee guy but beans are freshly roasted and has blends from columbia, Ethiopia, and costa rica. I ordered a latte and my mom had the drip coffee and flavors of it was amazing. The worker in the front helped us guide through the menu and what beans were used for each drink which was super nice of him. The shop itself is a great place to work, catch up, or do business meetings. Wasn't super dead quiet but also wasn't loud where you can't focus. Great place overall. read more

Probably once was the best cup Of coffee in Portland. Through the pandemic this was one of the most strict coffee shops in Portland. At one point they were a credit card only shop. I was glad to see that they started accepting cash again. I went in today 12/8/22 for an 8oz latte. They wanted $6.25 for an 8oz coffee. I don't know if they are having a donkey haul the beans from South America or why they would think their coffee is double the price of most other stores. Right down the street you can get a 12 oz latte for $4.00. And quite honestly down the street is more friendly and wants your business. My suggestion is to find another shop that doesn't rip you off. read more

Stopped by after spending the night in Portland on a road trip to grab a quick coffee before heading on out. I was a bit disappointed to see the only baked goods left when I got there were biscuits and cookies, was hoping for a croissant, but skipping the carbs doesn't hurt anybody. I grabbed a coffee and a bag of their coffee as well to try at home and was very happy with the roast. A great well balanced coffee! Case Study is a nice and bright, light-filled coffee shop located on Sandy on the eastern edge of Hollywood. There is ample seating at a communal style table in the center of the room, as well as several smaller tables. The folks here know their coffee! You can tell just by the delicious aroma as you walk in the place, they serve quality coffee. Indeed, I've never been dissatisfied with my order. This portion of Sandy can be a little busy, and parking might be an issue. But there are plenty of neighborhood streets where you can find a place to park either to the north or south of Sandy. I'm always happy to see local art in coffee shops, and Case Study does a great job rotating local artists through this location. I've discovered several of my favorite artists because they were featured here. read more

Very good coffee and tea just a bike shop and comic book store down from the Rose City Food Park and next door to Bakeshop, NE Portland's finest bakery. Case Study is a clean, well-lit, and friendly place -- reasonably quiet with a more or less studious clientele. Maybe it's the layout and spacing of the tables and chairs, or the large front windows, or the cafe's name, but Case Study seems to attract a bunch of mostly nice people busily minding their own business while they work away or pass the time on their laptops. Great atmosphere. Free wifi. A pleasant place to sit and relax. As for their coffee, Case Study roasts their own beans in small batches. I think they make good coffee here, I just don't care for it. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not good. The place does a brisk business and there are always tables full of people visiting, reading, working, sipping. Here's my thing, maybe it's not your thing. The coffee here has a acid, floral quality that I just dont like. I prefer dark, bold French roast style. I find that light bitterness in the latte, too. However, here is the reason I won't mind going back if I'm with someone who insists .... that almond milk hazelnut latte we had the other day was wonderful. I'll just get that. Large room with great tables. Good windows and light. Adjacent to my favorite Bake Shop and Cosmic Monkey, two doors down from my bike shop. Parking is usually easy. Awesome house made sauces for their lattes! This is a must for any of their flavored (house made sauces) lattes! I have tried them all and my favorite is the Toasted Hazelnut Latte. I do have to pay more for asking for extra sauce, but it is well worth it! I am a Native Portlander and know good coffee! Even their regular drip coffee is excellent!
