Carrot cake

This was our first visit at The Haven. Nice little neighborhood bar and grill. Great friendly service. Not too noisy even though there were a lot of people in the bar section. Baseball game on the big screens. My husband ordered the special which was a 22oz pork steak that came with beans and potato salad. I got the cod sandwich with homemade fries. Food was good as expected. But, not over the top that serves a five star. We split a piece of carrot cake which was very good. We liked the atmosphere. And, the location is becoming one of our favorite St Louis areas with great businesses and lots of St Louis culture. We will be back. Hope the dazzle us to a five star next time!

I am hesitant to write this review because I love this place so much and I don't want it to fill up! BUT I will still do it because I feel like this place deserves all the credit. This is a staple in our family because the beer is always cold, fries crispy, wings are delicious, and the waitresses remember your name and order :) I have tried a lot of things here, and there has not been one thing that I have not liked. My usual order is the hot wings with ranch (their ranch is TOP TIER I always ask for a larger side of it) and just a large dinner salad because even though it is basic, it always hits for me, and it is just a vehicle for the ranch have I mentioned how good the ranch is?? This last time I went, I went out of the box and instead of the salad I got the Cod Sandwich and I think I have to switch up my usual. The fish was flaky and the breading was crispy and the tartar sauce complimented everything, including the fries. It was also SO fresh and piping hot when it came out, which made me have to wait and unfortunately I filled up on my Dinner Salad and wings so I only got a couple of bites in before I had to call it quits. But I now have a special experience to share that the sandwich also reheats super well and the breading was still crispy the next day. You have probably seen this in the other reviews and I will confirm that this place is small and has some tight quarters. So if you have some junk in the trunk like me you will be saying a few extra "excuse me's" to get to your seat or the bathroom. With it being a small place there is a women and mens bathroom near the back, each only for one person at a time, so you might have to wait in line in the hallway. When it is full, it can get pretty loud so I would not recommend this place for a 1st date or a place to catch up with a friend during the peak times. This is a great place to watch literally any sport because while the spot is small, it has 4-5 TVs to watch anything you want.

Great fried cod! Perfect texture of crisp and flaky but tender. We had an incredible waitress and person who bussed the tables. The feel is bar casual. Carrot cake was delicious.

Lemon pepper chicken with broccoli and green beans

We went to The Haven at 5pm on a Tuesday and we were seated immediately for two. Drinks were taken right away and our server didn't take two minutes to bring them and ask if we wanted any appetizers. We got the fried cannelloni. Shortly after Alysha came back to the table and got our order. Lemon-Pepper Chicken with green beans and steamed broccoli. My wife got the chicken salad. When the cannelloni came to the table we were happy to have ordered it instead of the raviolis. It look delicious and didn't disappoint. I highly recommend this appetizer to anyone. After we finished the cannelloni our food came and it looked a little sad. Please see picture. I know it's hard to dress up a lemon-pepper pounded chicken chunk but the plate just looked bare. The chicken was extremely peppered so be ready for that. The green beans came from a freshly opened can, and the broccoli was very nicely steamed, not mushy, not undercooked. The chicken salad was.....well a chicken salad. My wife said it was good. All in all a good visit for a first time. We will definitely be back, I'll get the same appetizer but change up the entree. Our server, Alysha (I hope I'm getting that right) was very nice, our drinks got refilled in time and the timing of the food was also perfect. Give The Haven a try even if it's just to go have an after work beer and an appetizer. Cheers

I moved to Bevo Mill a year ago and put up a post on next door asking where all the little gems for food in Bevo were and time and time again The Heaven was said. Well, my brother and I finally tried it and it didn't disappoint. Everyone was really friends it's your local spot for good home cooking and at an affordable price. My brother had the fried chicken wing dinner, yum! Well seasoned and popping hot and fresh 5 I had the fried pork chop it was delish and didn't disappoint! The portion sizes are great you'll leave full or with left overs. Great quick family night dinner or spot by for a quick drink. Everyone seemed to know everyone even the cooks come out to say hello to the regulars. It's a sweet place and I get why people recommend!! OHH I almost forgot. Get the carrot cakes it's delicious they didn't lie when they said award winning yummy cream. Cheese icing and great moist cake and a bit old slice to share, yummy!

Glad to have The Haven back in operation! The menu is verveilmilar to the old one and it was nice to see a few of the same staff. As always, a great vibe.

A good old fashioned South City Pub and restaurant. No frills, but nothing to complain about either. I go here when I just want a standard American meal. The food is average, service is great. I find that I usually have to season most food items table side (especially the Fries). Servers will always make sure you have a drink, which I like. Food I've tried - Smash Burger, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (Stop Drop and Roll), Cod Dinner, Salads. Everything is pretty standard but I like the Cod the best. Hand battered and fried perfectly. Coleslaw and salad dressings taste store bought but still good. Dinner salads have a nice cheese blend and I like to get one to start. The have homemade meatballs and toasted raviolis which I have yet to try. Atmosphere, it's not big because it's located in a residential house, but cozy and the neons call your name for a beer from outside. Reasonable prices, $9.50 sandwiches with Fries, Budweiser bottles $3.25. They have a good "to-go" set up too in front of house. Overall, if you're in the neighborhood and hungry, don't hesitate to stop in!

A can eat the baked chips all day and not get tired of them!! Smaller place but the vibes are always good and the service is always pleasant and efficient. I get the ranch on the side but it's usually drizzled on the chips.

For the first time in forever we got there during happy hour so what do we do? Save money? No, we order two appetizers instead of one! We always get the wings, and we got fried pickles that were part of the $5 appetizer choices, you can choose from several and alcohol specials, too. I always do build your own, you fill out the sheet from a pad on the table choosing your ingredients by category. I usually get the beef but last couple times I have ordered chicken but got similar toppings, Spinach, tomato, chipotle aioli, and fried jalapenos on toasted sourdough. Love it! For a small upcharge you can get a salad as a side, I like to do that because I can steal a few of the delicious fries from my companions. The salad is generous, spring mix, red onion, tomato, croutons. It comes with shaved parmesan, but I ask them to leave that off. The champagne vinaigrette is perfect. This is my favorite burger place, but I like that I can get a great chicken sandwich!

I tried the Pretty in Pink cocktail, which was well-balanced and enjoyable, though the pour felt a bit light for a martini. Normally one martini gives me a slight buzz, but that wasn't the case here. We started with the onion rings as an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and they were tasty overall, though they had a tangy seasoning dusted on top that seemed a little odd at first. Surprisingly, it still worked. I ordered the Good Burger, and it was honestly one of the most flavorful smash burgers I've ever had. I was genuinely impressed. I got the sauce on the side since it also came with the onion rings, and unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of it -- it was a bit runny and lacked flavor. My friend ordered the vegan burger and absolutely loved it. The inside of the restaurant was cute and had a great atmosphere, though there was an unusual smell indoors, so I was very thankful we were able to grab one of the outdoor tables. Outdoor seating is pretty limited, though, so keep that in mind if you prefer sitting outside.

Cozy and inviting, a place you don't feel out of place (even for someone as socially anxious as I can be). Drink in the design, then chase it with a draught. I appreciate the constantly rotating selection of lagers and pilsners; each visit is a bit different, with five or six selections ranging from light lagers to hoppy pilsners and occasional baltic porters and cold IPAs. Half pours and slow pours are my favorite way to get the full experience at Little Lager. The bartenders are also very friendly and knowledgeable; I enjoy seeing the community they've created among regulars and I've learned a bit more about different beer styles and their serving methods on my stops in. I've personally recommended Little Lager to friends and coworkers, but there are a few things to keep in mind: the small space is not the best for a group happy hours, there isn't a kitchen to serve food (though they do allow outside food) , and there are very few options for non-beer drinkers (outside of a few packaged ciders, wines, and different ways to experience Chicago's infamous Malort). Beyond that, it's a laid-back spot to visit with one or two friends after work or to experience their regular collaborations with local breweries like Perennial and 2nd Shift. I've been a fan since my first visit, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She kept saying she was new, that it was like her second day or something and didn't quite know the menu. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. If you have a limited cocktail menu but an extensive bar selection you would think their cocktail specials were on point. Nooooo. The BF tried a margarita special and it was awful. I tried a special crafted cocktail that was cool that our waitress asked the guy bartending to specially make because she had no clue about what I was talking about. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF. The burger was extremely underwhelming, not seasoned at all. How do you specialize in burgers and mess that up. The best item we ate was the fries and the comedy show was good. I love dinner and entertainment. We are burger enthusiast and if this what your restaurant specializes in I expect to be wowed. A small plates restaurant that felt a little Italian. We make reservations and show up to this place that looks like a neighborhood pub. Quaint, in the corner, inviting light shining through medium sized windows. Inside, the vibes were a hybrid of someone's very nice dining room and an old western saloon. I know that's almost nonsensical, but the vibes were good. We felt right at home. Service was spot on. The server was very nice and new the menu pretty well. The food came out tapas style, so when something was ready, it just came right out. I like that. I like the periods where there are so many plates on the table at one time that it's overwhelming. What's what eating is all about. As for the food itself, it was good. I'll give a little blurb on each thing, as not to wear out your eyeballs. Crispy Artichokes (sauce au vert). These were fun and nice and crispy. Don't see artichokes like these very often. The sauce was a little weak, though. Didn't exactly go well with these fried little morsels. 'Nduja Croquetas (bomba rice, spicy prosciutto, fontina, grenada pepper aioli). Wow, now these little flavor bombs cannot be missed. Spicy sausage arancinis with a nice peppery aioli to dip. An intensely flavorful little dish that I loved. Can't find it on the menu, maybe it was seasonal, maybe it was a special, but we had a bone marrow French onion soup that was nice. The soup was good good. Very well developed flavors. The marrow bone was a little sloppy, though, and we got a transverse cut of bone, leaving very little marrow to access. Next were the Mussels (green garlic broth, Spanish vermouth, pickled peppers, spring onions, grilled LF bread). Very well cooked mussels, sitting in a lovely broth to dip your bread in. Ask for extra bread. But do not ask for extra of that sauce. That was really bad sauce. Sauce work seems to be this place's only weak point. Probably the biggest dish of the night, the Bolognese Bianco (Newman Farms pork & mushroom bolognese, bucatini, gremolata, parmigiano reggiano). This was a really nice pasta dish! Love those big, thicc bucatini noodles. Flavorful bolognese, great texture from the gremolata, and just cheesy enough to make this probably the most complete dish of the night. Then finally the Sea Scallops (ramp soubise, morel mushrooms, house-cured pancetta). Scallops were scored and cooked to look like fine art. Light scallops paired with nice umami from the morels and the pancetta, all tied together by that nice soubise. You don't see that very often either. We ended the meal with a Sticky Toffee Pudding (apple & date cake, apple brandy toffee, crème chantilly, marcona almond tuile). Chef's kiss. Such a delicate sponge with a nice date flavor. Then boom, the sweet boozy toffee, the creamy chantilly, the texture from the tuile. Every element helped make this a great dessert to end a great meal. Overall, another very pleasant surprise. This was a very good dinner, and I'll definitely come back if I'm ever in St. Louis again.
