The bone in pork steak was glorious. I heard angels singing as I polished off half. A bonus was that the barbecue sauce was served to the side so that I could dip. The Haven has changed ownership since last time I visited--and I like this iteration! The dining area has had a refresh, but it still feels home and welcoming. There's a long bar with plenty of stools, plus a variety of table sizes (low and high-top). The menu has lots of typical bar fare, plus some of the more "home-cooked" diner food and square meals to keep you coming back. For my last visit, a meatloaf special was on the chalkboard, but I went with the Jack Salmon and was not disappointed! My plate arrived with two medium-sized fish, perfectly seasoned and breaded, plus a generous scoop of slaw and nice, warm beans that were just tender and not overcooked. The bar has plenty of basics and none of the frills; our server couldn't tell me anything about their gin selection for my G&T but I recognized a bottle of Bombay & requested that. The Haven has been around for years. It was opened by the Beck Family and sold to John Gasperi who since passed on. I'm not familiar with new owners however we've been several times. The food is good and the service is good as well. Small but definitely worth a visit. read more

This was our first visit at The Haven. Nice little neighborhood bar and grill. Great friendly service. Not too noisy even though there were a lot of people in the bar section. Baseball game on the big screens. My husband ordered the special which was a 22oz pork steak that came with beans and potato salad. I got the cod sandwich with homemade fries. Food was good as expected. But, not over the top that serves a five star. We split a piece of carrot cake which was very good. We liked the atmosphere. And, the location is becoming one of our favorite St Louis areas with great businesses and lots of St Louis culture. We will be back. Hope the dazzle us to a five star next time! read more

I am hesitant to write this review because I love this place so much and I don't want it to fill up! BUT I will still do it because I feel like this place deserves all the credit. This is a staple in our family because the beer is always cold, fries crispy, wings are delicious, and the waitresses remember your name and order :) I have tried a lot of things here, and there has not been one thing that I have not liked. My usual order is the hot wings with ranch (their ranch is TOP TIER I always ask for a larger side of it) and just a large dinner salad because even though it is basic, it always hits for me, and it is just a vehicle for the ranch have I mentioned how good the ranch is?? This last time I went, I went out of the box and instead of the salad I got the Cod Sandwich and I think I have to switch up my usual. The fish was flaky and the breading was crispy and the tartar sauce complimented everything, including the fries. It was also SO fresh and piping hot when it came out, which made me have to wait and unfortunately I filled up on my Dinner Salad and wings so I only got a couple of bites in before I had to call it quits. But I now have a special experience to share that the sandwich also reheats super well and the breading was still crispy the next day. You have probably seen this in the other reviews and I will confirm that this place is small and has some tight quarters. So if you have some junk in the trunk like me you will be saying a few extra "excuse me's" to get to your seat or the bathroom. With it being a small place there is a women and mens bathroom near the back, each only for one person at a time, so you might have to wait in line in the hallway. When it is full, it can get pretty loud so I would not recommend this place for a 1st date or a place to catch up with a friend during the peak times. This is a great place to watch literally any sport because while the spot is small, it has 4-5 TVs to watch anything you want. read more

We went to The Haven at 5pm on a Tuesday and we were seated immediately for two. Drinks were taken right away and our server didn't take two minutes to bring them and ask if we wanted any appetizers. We got the fried cannelloni. Shortly after Alysha came back to the table and got our order. Lemon-Pepper Chicken with green beans and steamed broccoli. My wife got the chicken salad. When the cannelloni came to the table we were happy to have ordered it instead of the raviolis. It look delicious and didn't disappoint. I highly recommend this appetizer to anyone. After we finished the cannelloni our food came and it looked a little sad. Please see picture. I know it's hard to dress up a lemon-pepper pounded chicken chunk but the plate just looked bare. The chicken was extremely peppered so be ready for that. The green beans came from a freshly opened can, and the broccoli was very nicely steamed, not mushy, not undercooked. The chicken salad was.....well a chicken salad. My wife said it was good. All in all a good visit for a first time. We will definitely be back, I'll get the same appetizer but change up the entree. Our server, Alysha (I hope I'm getting that right) was very nice, our drinks got refilled in time and the timing of the food was also perfect. I moved to Bevo Mill a year ago and put up a post on next door asking where all the little gems for food in Bevo were and time and time again The Heaven was said. Well, my brother and I finally tried it and it didn't disappoint. Everyone was really friends it's your local spot for good home cooking and at an affordable price. My brother had the fried chicken wing dinner, yum! Well seasoned and popping hot and fresh 5 I had the fried pork chop it was delish and didn't disappoint! The portion sizes are great you'll leave full or with left overs. Great quick family night dinner or spot by for a quick drink. Everyone seemed to know everyone even the cooks come out to say hello to the regulars. It's a sweet place and I get why people recommend!! OHH I almost forgot. Get the carrot cakes it's delicious they didn't lie when they said award winning yummy cream. Cheese icing and great moist cake and a bit old slice to share, yummy! read more

A good old fashioned South City Pub and restaurant. No frills, but nothing to complain about either. I go here when I just want a standard American meal. The food is average, service is great. I find that I usually have to season most food items table side (especially the Fries). Servers will always make sure you have a drink, which I like. Food I've tried - Smash Burger, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (Stop Drop and Roll), Cod Dinner, Salads. Everything is pretty standard but I like the Cod the best. Hand battered and fried perfectly. Coleslaw and salad dressings taste store bought but still good. Dinner salads have a nice cheese blend and I like to get one to start. The have homemade meatballs and toasted raviolis which I have yet to try. Atmosphere, it's not big because it's located in a residential house, but cozy and the neons call your name for a beer from outside. Reasonable prices, $9.50 sandwiches with Fries, Budweiser bottles $3.25. They have a good "to-go" set up too in front of house. Overall, if you're in the neighborhood and hungry, don't hesitate to stop in! read more

Rating as a local dive-ish place, the Haven is the best. It's unpretentious, the portions are great, and quality is strong (loved the fish sandwich and french onion soup), and prices are awesome. Hey, it's not The Haven by Gerard Craft, but it doesn't need to be. A lot of places packed with regulars don't give the time of day to newbies. This place felt plenty welcoming. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the Haven. The food looked solid. I ordered the steak sandwich at the recommendation of a friend (with onions and peppers, without cheese) and it was REALLY yummy! The steak was tender and really flavorful and balanced the bun and sautéed veggies well. My friend had the cheeseburger and we split the spin/art dip. The service was mostly attentive. We lingered longer than most usually would for drinks after our food and they were great at serving us up until the very end when we waited quite a while for our check. To be fair, we probably gave them the idea we were there for drinks for a longer period of time! I will be back. This place had good food and was reasonably priced. read more

What a cute neighborhood bar and restaurant. I can see where on a game day/night this would be a fun place to hang. They have a great big menu and lots to choose from. I ordered a salad and toasted raviolis. My aunt ordered a Ruben and fries. The salad was delicious and fresh, t ravs were homemade. I have to say the dipping sauce was delicious but I wish the meat filling would have been more chunky and seasoned. I also think the babies needed a little more time in the fryer, make them more crisp. The French fries though were the bomb! Crispy delicious crinkle cuts! Who ever says that? Yum. This is a great little bar and grill. I couldn't take my eyes off the Shamrock burger: a burger with corned beef? Yes please! And it was soooo good! They give the option of 1000 island or horseradish and I chose horseradish. The burger was cooked perfectly and had plenty of juiciness but wasn't greasy. The corned beef was excellent and the two meats blended well together. I had a side of their creamy coleslaw and I have to say it's probably one if the best coleslaws I've had in a restaurant. It was crunchy and the sauce had such a nice creamy flavor that wasn't overpowering as many are, I was able to taste the rest of the ingredients and not just the sauce. Kelly, the bartender was wonderful, answered all my questions and is very personable. I will most certainly come back here. read more

This is a great south city hidden gem! My husband and I used to go here years ago for the cozy bar atmosphere. Sadly we moved and stopped frequenting this location as often, but today we returned with our young daughter for dinner for the first time in years (I was craving their French onion soup). Their service was outstanding!! From the hostess to the waitress to the bus boy, everyone was over-the-top friendly. The hostess made a point to sit us next to another young family and even brought out crayons, toys, and complimentary dessert for our daughter. And the food was delicious, as always. It sometimes can be extremely busy, however the ambiance is very relaxing. You have a view of the sports on one of the multiple flat screens. My first time at this place. Had the patty melt burger. It was very.tasty. love a juicy burger. Dry burgerz are the pits. Wait staff was very efficient But the waitress could be a little friendly She looked bored to death didnt write down order or even suggest specials. . The Haven is located on Morganford between Loughborough and Holly Hills in South City. Long gone are the days of brain sandwiches at this south side watering hole. The dilapidated Haven has been around the Holly Hills neighborhood for a long time. It recently closed down, was sold, redone, and has reopened under new ownership. It is now a hopping new spot for south-side locals. The new owners have done a great job gutting the old place and giving the new one a clean, cozy feel. It's a tad small and smoky, but they offer flat panel TVs galor, video games, cheap drinks and a decent full bar/restaurant menu (under $10). I had the Cannelloni lunch special, which was good. My friend had the burger and thought it was delish. If you're looking for a low key drink in a clean, safe neighborhood bar.... give the Haven a try. read more
